Little pricey and you certainly receive less than friendly service. Our waitress, while accomodating, was a bit less than responsive to inquiries concerning our selections. As we had REAL Europeans with us while we dined, one point of suggestion would be for a "Belgian restaurant" staff to know that pommes frittes are french fries. This place is the seemed tourist trap the rest of the town seems to present. We ordered an array of burgers...hopefully the staff gets that right. The sisters and I recently did a Santa Barbara trip and stopped by the quaint little community of Solvang. We ordered 3 items to share: Spinach souffle crepe Belgium Waffles with pecans and maple syrup blintzes with blueberries The Spinach Souffle crepe was the best thing in my opinion of the 3. The spinach must have been pureed with the egg whites because it was the smoothiest and lightest mixture. The crepe was deliciously made, and it was topped with the creamiest cheese sauce! The Belgium waffles were ok. Nothing extraordinary, but delicious nonetheless. It came with a pale maple syrup that was not too thick or overpoweringly sweet. It was topped with lots of pecans (I would have preferred that it be a little more finer chopped). the Blintzes with blueberries were good. I think if I ever came back, I would opt for strawberries. The cottage cheese and sour cream mixture inside was absolutely delicious. You could tell the cottage cheese and sour cream were either homemade or not from your ordinary grocery store type brand. Visited this restaurant today as I have a few times in the past. I have found today and in other visits that the lady that wears a mask is very rude and comes off very controlling. I watched the server today ( Debra) really go above and beyond for her guests and the lady with the mask on and her trainee ( I assume because the didn't leave each others side). I was very appalled that neither of them would help the server. There was a party of 8 that came to sit outside when I arrived and the female with the mask and her hair in a tight bun, was trying to control the scene by coming off as very rude that their party couldn't have 3 tables together even though 4 of their guests were small children. I am not sure if this is normal behavior of her, but I have encountered her rudeness before. I would like to let management know that the server deserves more help and these other two employees should be in the back away from the guests. I've been coming up to Solvang since the 1960's but never really thought much of the food here. Then for whatever reason my wife wanted to eat here at the Belgian Cafe and order a Belgian waffle. To my surprise the waffle had a slight crunch of toasted sugar on the edges and super light in the center. I am glad it wasn't covered with all the ingredients that I would normally want on a waffle (usually strawberries, whip cream and ice cream). Since my wife ordered this and I ordered the omelet I was OK with that. Good thing too, because this waffle is so delicate it would have been destroyed under all those ingredients. This super light delight works perfectly with butter, powdered sugar and their warm light maple syrup. Don't soak it with syrup or the poor waffle deflates... as if it were a souffle it will wilt... so I dipped a little piece into the syrup... smile. When we arrived I had some of hers... when we left today I got my own. Two gentlemen at the table next to us got the works... they seemed very happy. I simply had the waffle and left with a smile on my face. So first off I want to start with the positives. This place is great because of its location right in the heart of Solvang. The other great thing about this place was our waitress, Amy, who was really cool to talk to and made our experience great. Thanks Amy!! The food was alright, which is why it deserved three stars. The one bad thing I would say is that you can 100% tell that the Hash browns are frozen. We stumbled upon this place after we got out of church at St Ines Mission on Sunday morning. We went with 5 adults and 1 child. The wait was about 2 minutes since I think we beat the morning rush. Our waitress (Kathryn) was so friendly, welcoming and quick. We had the chicken and mushroom crepe, Ham and egg crepe, Stars and Stripes waffle (strawberries, whip cream and blueberries) and strawberry crepe with fresh orange juice all around. I only could stomach half of the waffle and one of two sausages before I realized that it tasted like pork. I had super high hopes for this place. Beautiful on the wall decorations and nice staff once you walk in. They DO have inside seating at this time, which is a plus, because my family and I were cold and didn't want to sit outside. Wait time only a few minutes. My dad ordered a side of fries. My girlfriends and I went to Solvang this past weekend in search of nice shops, small cafe's and wonderful food! As we walked around Copenhagen Dr. we smelled the delicious aroma of the waffles coming from the Belgian Cafe. There was a 30 minute wait for a table for 3, which in the time we were there did not go down. A quick suggestion for families: sit in the outside area because the inside is a bit small for strollers (which can be in the way of the guests). The inside is cozy, I loved the wallpaper and the decor that they had (small dishes, a few old mirrors, pictures). You must try their waffles and crepes which were surprisingly soft and light, I would suggest that you order the original because the other toppings make it soggy. The Mimosas did not disappoint, but my favorite was the vegetable crepe, which comes with a small cup of fruit and bread with butter on the side. The veggies were seasoned to perfection and the fruit did not taste old. The service is good, the reason I do not give it 5 stars is because we did have to ask a few times for water (which should be served to you at the beginning). otherwise I would go back and enjoy their waffles! read more

In a recent coastal road trip with a couple of friends, we stopped by Solvang for a day to check out the small town. Walking down the streets of this tourist packed attraction, we were on the hunt for some tasty brunch. Utilizing the handy dandy Yelp apps on our phones, my friends and I unanimously chose The Belgian Café to be the spot. After about 20 minutes, we were finally on our way to waffle heaven! This quaint, red door café impersonates a cozy kitchen at home with its floral wallpapers and hanging umbrellas. One of my friends chose the Traveler's Choice (probably the best bang for your buck) while the other opted to have lunch and got the Tri-Tip Sandwich (which I heard had a tasty sauce that went along with the sandwich.) I on the other hand, opted for the Pecan Waffle. You can either love or hate the waffles here. My friends weren't too fond on the fact that the waffles were so light, describing it as, "...eating a hallow waffle, like eating air!" Personally, I kind of liked the light and fluffy waffle. That's usually to what I gravitate when I'm trying any western place for the first time, haha! I had the tuna version, which was VERY small. I was expecting something like a Subway-style half-footlong but this was typical sliced bread halved diagonally. Disappointment in terms of size (that's what she said). However, the mayonnaise and tuna match was very palatable, even if I dislike tuna a lot due to its (lack of) texture. The soup I chose was the vegetable soup. I was expecting the usual mushy vegetables in an overly seasoned stock but this was actually GOOD VEGETABLE SOUP. The carrots were chunky; the cabbage wasn't sliced into thin strips, and the potatoes did not give up in my mouth. Seriously, if not for this soup, I'd only give this place 3 stars. The dill can afford a bit more crunch, but otherwise, it's not bad at all. Waitresses were not that friendly. I usually come by and eat here whenever I am in town. I have tried the World's Fair Sensation with Banana and Stars & Stripes Waffles. The Waffle is Belgian style in a rectangular shaped. The Waffles are cooked consistently very well with a nice crisp outer shell and soft interior. The Bananas and Strawberry fruits were fresh. The blue berries were not fresh and served in a syrup. I usually do not like blue berries served this way and prefer them fresh but they were actually pretty good and not overly sweet.
