Fry jacks! IYKYK! fried, fluffy dough clouds!
Dalia J.

I've been visiting Belize for the past 10 years. Visiting doesn't mean I'm an expert but having spent so much time there I got to miss the flavors of Belize. I was shocked to find this restaurant in Gardena! The fillet was seasoned so well. Not too "salty" but wonderfully subtle in the flavoring. I'm a fan of the rice and beans, the taste is earthy and the texture is both "tough" and chewy at the same time. It's a specific texture that's just so good. The plantains! I. love the crust that was on the outside and how wonderfully mushy the plantains were on the inside! If you're a fan of fried doughs (every culture has something fried) then you'll enjoy the fry jacks. I enjoy mine with a little bit of butter and jam. Service is very casual and laid back. If you've traveled abroad you know many cultures are not about rushing you through your meal but checking in on you to make sure you're enjoying and that's the service you get here. The restaurant is bright, airy, and painted blue like the water you see in Belize and the blue hole of Belize. A hidden gem that more people should support :)

First time here and I'll be back! It's easy to find and has ample amount of parking. The inside was clean and plenty of seating. My food was ready when I got there and the young man at the front was nice. $20 in Belize but $40 in America. worth it though! Oxtail 5/5 Stew beans & rice 5/5 Potato salad 5/5 Plaintain 4/5 (not as sweet as I like them) Lemon Pie 5/5

I've had homemade Belizian food but this has expanded my cuisine horizons. All dishes listed were delicious however the stewed chicken was a bit salty but edible. My favorite was the hash fish and creole bread. Definitely Caribbean influence yet unique flavors from Belize region. The sour sap juice was refreshing and balanced in sweet flavor. The service was exceptional and decent dine in seating. There's restrooms available next to cashier. This is a local favorite of La and I will return to try more dishes.

The taste of Belize! Went with family for lunch. I ordered a pink lemonade and the grilled shrimp with potato salad, stew beans and rice and plantains. I tried one of the fry jacks that my mom ordered. This was my first time trying fry jacks it was light and airy. Our server was lovely and helpful. I hope to come back soon when I'm in LA.

Sampler

The texture of the sampler was light but filling Crisp tostadas carry salty & fresh ingredients Paired with crispy and airy fried Panades my favorite of the four was the Salbute Was great with the pickled onions provided I just wished they put some of the crumbly cheese on it. 4.5/5

Stew chicken, rice and beans, and plantains.

Was craving some Belizean food and decided to finally check this place out. My friends and I went to Belize last year and have been trying to find some stew chicken as good as the one we tried. The stew chicken came with large portions of sides and the meat was so tender it fell off the bone. The person who took my order was friendly and even gave me a free Pepsi. The restaurant is roomy and in a quiet area with plenty of parking. Will definitely come here again to try other dishes.

Piece of metal/plastic that was inside the Rice & Beans.

Unfortunately, there was a big piece of metal/plastic in my grandson food (Rice & Beans). I told the waiter (Leslie) who said he will take it to the kitchen so that they could be aware. No apologies or anything. They didn't even offer to comp his food. Sorry but I will never return to this restaurant. I took a picture of the metal so I have proof.

Having moved from Belize to California, I've always been on the lookout for authentic Belizean food that takes me back to my roots. In the 90s, my mom and I used to frequent the Belizean restaurants on Western Avenue, but now they're scattered across the city, and many don't taste the same anymore. Blue Hole, which I believe was once called Mars, has been a staple for Belizean cuisine for quite some time. This place truly carries the Belizean torch for the best authentic, consistently delicious meals that remind me of home. Food Rating: Sampler Plate (Garnaches, Panades, etc.): 4.5/5 (keep in mind this might get soggy so best to have there) Tamales: 5/5 Rice & Beans with Stew Chicken: 4.5/5 Bread Pudding: 4.5/5 Service: Friendly Cleanliness: Good I would definitely recommend Blue Hole if you want to try Belizean food for the first time or if you're looking for a great Belizean restaurant that reminds you of back home. It's also perfect for those days when you just don't feel like cooking.

Fry chicken, fry jacks
Serena L.

It was my first time trying Belizean/Caribbean food, and it was amazing!! I ordered the fry chicken which came with rice & beans, plantains, and a side salad of choice (I got the potato salad). We also got a side of panades. The chicken was SO juicy that I didn't even need to use the sauce. The fry jacks had a hint of sweetness and surprisingly paired well with the chicken. The panades paired so well with the pickled onions. Everything came out fresh and piping hot. The inside of the restaurant had a "topical" vibe and the music being played was very fitting. The service was amazing, there was only one person working but he made sure to check up on our table several times. It was a long drive to get here but worth it. I will definitely be coming back to try other dishes!

I already left feedback with them but not expecting any follow up. But it's nice to see a family run business and I wish them well.

This area is not familiar to us at all, and we don't normally eat (for us) exotic cuisine. But, we were in the mood to try something new, so we stopped here. It's a colorful, cheerful little place. I think there are only like 4 tables. Apparently, it is mostly takeout. This became evident when our food was "served". We ordered a large two-meat plate and two large fried chicken plates. The two meats were "brown stew chicken" and curry goat. The meat is served in thick savory gravy/sauce. The "plates" are served with rice and fried plantains. The brown stew chicken was good. The curry goat was really good. Here's where the experience really veered sharply from our normal dining experience. The "plates" were served in takeout fold-over boxes with plastic forks. The meat itself was pretty much all adhered to bones. It was tender and delicious, but eating with our hands doesn't come naturally. So, I asked for a knife, and the sweet woman who takes the orders looked at me and said they don't have knives, and that we "just have to dig down into it". Indeed. She did give me a second plastic fork though, which I used. Nice workers. Authentic food. Huge portions. New experience which we all enjoyed.

After craving Jamaican food for what feels like forever, I finally decided to search Yelp on my way…read morehome from working in LA and came across The Taste of the Caribbean in Long Beach - and wow, this hit the spot in a way I've been missing for too long. For context, I've always loved Jamaican food and even have family who make incredible, authentic dishes, but I haven't had anything close to that in a year. So my expectations? High. My craving? Even higher. I ordered the jerk chicken dinner with peas & rice and cabbage medley, and some plantains - to go. First off, the service was amazing. The woman who helped me was genuinely warm and welcoming, and you can tell she cares about what she's serving. When I ordered, she asked if I wanted the jerk sauce on the side and made sure I was okay with the spice level when I said no. That attention to detail matters. The food came out quickly (it was mid-afternoon and not busy), and everything stayed warm all the way home--which is always a win for takeout. Now let's talk about the food: The portion was generous, the flavors were on point, and everything tasted fresh. The jerk chicken had that perfect smoky, spicy kick - exactly what I was hoping for. The rice and peas and cabbage medley were a great balance to the heat, and the plantains were sweet and perfectly cooked. I did notice another review complaining about the spice level being too high... and honestly, I had to laugh a little. Have you had jerk chicken before? It's supposed to be spicy - that's the whole point. Personally, that comment is part of what made me choose this place, and it delivered. If you don't like spice, jerk might not be your thing - but I'm sure there are milder options if you ask. Bonus: they offer online ordering and delivery through Uber Eats and Postmates, which makes it even easier to get your fix. Overall, this place brought back the flavors I've been missing for so long. I'll absolutely be back - and probably sooner rather than later.

It was ready when I arrived to pick it up. It's a small restaurant with a shared lot. Clean on the inside with a few ladies at the counter and some others waiting in a room of some sort. I saw that the 2 associates were busy with orders but still they provided good customer service. The food is really good. First time trying plantains and it wasn't unpleasant as I assumed lol. I love rice and peas. The cabbage was a lil different than what I'm familiar with, however, it did not disappoint. The bread tastes like a fried donut. I liked it. And the jerk chicken was delicious and flavorful. It was tender. Everything was properly cooked. And everything was hot. No cold items. The sauce wasn't too spicy either. The lady went to the back and came back to give me something wrapped in foil lol. It was some cake. I think she knew it was my first visit.
