    Basil spaghetti

Enjoyed my trip to the Bower! Stopped in for a late dinner after a long travel day. Was quickly seated. The ambiance is reminiscent of many other trendy contemporary American restaurants. Really loved the open kitchen concept. The food was decent, but not as exciting as I was hoping for. Tried the basil spaghetti, which was fresh and filling but might have benefitted from a little more seasoning and acid. Otherwise worth a try if you're in the area!

If I could give 3.5 stars, I would but rounding up to 4 for the great ambiance and staff! The vibe here is niiice.. cozy, stylish, and perfect for a catch-up or date night. Staff was attentive and super friendly throughout. Happy hour deals? Solid 5/5 -- great value and options. The old fashioned was yummy. As for the food though: mixed feelings. The arancini didn't quite hit the mark for me -- not crispy enough & cold (2.5), and the cacio e pepe was a bit underwhelming compared to very good ones I have had (3). But the truffle bread was a standout--very tasty, wish there was more red pepper so it wasn't so sweet but yumm(4)! It was all just decent food, nothing special or mouthwatering... too bland. Overall, food lands around a ~3.5 to me. Might return for drinks and apps, especially during happy hour.. but not in a rush tbh. Went with friends for Happy Hour - fantastic prices and options! Our server was very friendly and everything was delicious. We sat outside and it was beautiful. Plenty of shade.

The appetizers are a must have. The crispy cauliflower and the whipped feta are some of the best appetizers I've had ever. The chicken Parmesan and the other pasta dish were good but a little disappointing. I would suggest going to the Bauer with a large group so you can do more mixing match with the appetizers and drinks. They also run a fun happy hour so go check them out and they have good seating inside the main Hall as well as a larger back patio seating with an additional bar. Our waitress was so kind and made sure we were having a good time, she gave us some good recommendations on things to eat and made an amazing gin sour.

Beautiful spot on magazine! Great place for celebrations and gatherings. Food came out quickly and was coursed out well. We ordered a few small plates and mains to share and it was the perfect amount. Service was attentive, appreciated them checking in on our table and also making sure we had utensils to share all our dishes with. Food was packed with flavor and was well balanced. Our faves were probably the avocado panzanella and the pasta bolognese. Had high hopes for the pesto pasta but felt some flavor was still lacking. Nonetheless food was great overall! Good drink menu too! Looking forward to our next visit.

    Mood ring cocktail

The appetizers were AMAZING!! The entrees were okay. We got the avocado panzanella and the whipped feta and those were both to die for. For entree we got the basil spaghetti and the crawfish stuffed shells. Both were okay but not great. For drinks we got the crossing the line and the magazine margarita both were good. The mood ring drink was not. Too sweet. The vibes were great! Such a cute place! Would def recommend and go back!

Christmas cocktail, could have been a cuter glass

I have been here about 3 times and I am - sadly - never impressed with the food. I am impressed with the cocktails; those drinks are GOOD. The most recent time I dinned here was about 6 months ago during the holidays with all the Christmas decor up and had requested on the reservation to be seated near all the decor and the music. The hostess said there was no room over there but said they can still make Christmas cocktails for our group of 4. I was disappointed since I came all decked out in Christmas gear and was really looking for that ambience, but I settled for the festive cocktails. The cocktail I ordered was the Magazine Street Miracle - a tasty bourbon drink and it did in fact taste like the season. I enjoyed it a lot although I wished it came in a more Christmassy, fun glass. The apps we ordered was the pork belly and scallops. Now the waitress did warn us that the scallops were **VERY** small. And I really appreciated her being honest with us. Sure, enough when they came out --- WOW, it was ridiculously small. The presentation left a lot to be desired as well. But that pork belly was spot on - tasty. Then I ordered the green pest spaghetti - this did make up for the size of those 2 teeny tiny scallops, but I did not love the flavors. It was just ok for me. I think if I come back again, it will be just for a happy hour.

    Tuna Crudo
    Sean B.

Service was great, but the food was a bit underwhelming overall. My husband had the skirt steak, which lacked flavor, and I ordered the Gulf shrimp with pepperoni oreganata. The shrimp were large, but the flavor and texture didn't quite work for me. That said, the tuna crudo was delicious and definitely the standout dish. I always feel a little bad being this honest, but hopefully this helps others decide what to order.

Best chicken Parm I've ever had. Basil spaghetti was more subtle than I wanted on the flavor, atmosphere is nice and the staff is great

I came for bar humbug. The bar was decorated so nice. It was super festive. The service was pretty good and the drinks were great. Everyone at the table enjoyed their drinks even the ones that rarely finish their drink. I had 2 appetizers. The truffle bread was ok. There was a sweetness to it that I didn't really care for. The lamb meatballs were really good.

Came to The Bower during a professional development conference. One of the well-known EHR companies hosted a HH for their customers. This was a nice way to be appreciated, not just for spending our hard earned money to ensure clients, business operations, and admin/logistics are handled accordingly, but also to simply recognize how hard mental health clinicians/providers work on a daily basis. I didn't get any pictures of the food that was served but there was a variety of finger foods. Charcuterie boards, hummus, and other dips, crackers, etc. We also indulged in cocktails/wine at the bar. The Bower is a beautiful restaurant with both indoor and outdoor seating. Great location for date night, happy hour with friends/family, and solo dinners. Highly recommend stopping by and I will return when I'm in NOLA!

We recommend the brightside if you like briny if not the Alabama were mild and the area 3 were all around good, so no matter what you like they have you covered. They probably rotate them so they may be different when you go. The shrimp toast was good but really the sweet chili dipping sauce was the star of the show for us. The Brabant potatoes were excellent. Nice and crispy on the outside and tender and fluffy on the inside. I could have had these for the meal and been just fine. The grilled tuna and okra was a standout. The best okra I have had I think. Lightly crispy with tomatoes and light sauce that was just fantastic. The were a few bad things though. We shared a bowl of gumbo and it was bland and the shrimp were tiny. It wasn't super expensive but the best gumbo is still my wife's. Lastly, my wife got the hangar steak. It was cooked perfectly and honestly one of the best we have ever had but it was described as having a salsa verde over the top. This is really the biggest faux pas. Salsa verde you think of tomatillo's, jalapeño, cilantro, garlic and lime. What they put on it was more of chimichurri which is parsley, vinegar, oil, garlic etc. We like salsa verde, not so much chimichurri. This definitely had some citrus and mint and maybe a hint of anise in a heavy oil. It was ok, but not all what we were expecting. We mentioned it to the manager and he said the chef was filipino which i am not sure why that would matter. He would know the difference between Mexico and South America which we thought was funny. We have been to the Philippines many times so it was a strange excuse. The kicker is both the waiter and he acknowledged it was more like chimichurri than salsa verde. Oh well. Not the worst thing in the world. If you like chimichurri you should get the steak it was really good. Our waiter was super cool and the restaurant is upscale casual that you see at so many places these days. All in all, it was a good experience and we will come back again. Update: we talked with a friend who is filipino and she said there is a filipino salsa verde that is different from Italian or Mexican versions. We had never had it or heard of it but she said it does have a heavy oil and is citrus forward. I bet this what the manager was talking about. So our mistake. Just thought I would make the correction.

Right off the bat, after arriving on a Friday around 4:45 PM we were seated promptly, given water and the tastiest little sweet yeast rolls ever (the tops actually crackled when you squish them you guys), and made our bevvie choices. Tonic with lime for me (I'm behaving rn) and an Old Fashioned for wifey. Killer. We skipped the appetizer course and ended up ordering off the specials menu for both meals. The grits were quite grainy and didn't taste cheesy as described. They weren't creamy at all and really tasted like plain barely salted grits that could have been cooked a bit longer. The shrimp was flavorful and the sear on the outside was nice, but they were quite overcooked and tough. There was a much higher ratio of grits to shrimp and gravy than you would want, especially given the grits were not that good. However, my husband absolutely loved the chicken pasta and said it was one of the best he has ever had. They definitely can make good food but I would skip the shrimp and grits. The lemonade I ordered was also incredibly watery. The service was efficient and good overall, but very impersonal and bare minimum. Definitely efficiency prioritized over true dinner service.
