While they still have yet to be as good as they were at the old location, they still make some of the best damn sandwiches in Jax!

WOW...came here with some friends for brunch on Saturday and quickly realized that I have never reviewed the Bread and Board before. Say it isn't so, as I have been here many times. Well, here goes..... If you have never been here before, what are you waiting for? This place is awesome, offering many choices to eat and a great location on Oak St. with tons of available parking to be had. The Bread and Board has plenty of table space inside and out, with the outside patio being covered by awnings; makes for a great day outside! The menu is different, as you can get a sandwich or you can order a board. (they have daily specials that are not posted) What is a board???? A deconstructed sandwich with all the goodies and you can make how you want and even eat the ingredients without bread (my gf friend). Prices seem a little pricy, until you see the portions, then you are happily trying to figure out how to eat it all! I have been here several times, having something different each time: like the Chicken Cordon Lu, seasonal pickle board, Grilled Shawarma Chicken, Cured Italian Meats, mixed greens and herbs.... However on this trip, they were serving a brunch menu, so I had the Fried green tomato sandwich. YUMMY! I am a lover of fried green tomatoes, so this was perfect for me. Lightly fried and not overpowered with breading, the tomatoes were divine! The bread is amazingly fresh and good, but I have to admit, I took the bread off the second part of my sandwich for a stronger tomato taste....smile! They are NOW serving brunch on Saturday and Sunday with a diverse menu, so why not pop over and give them a try. Hey...it's a win win...they have beer, wine, bloody mary's, and mimosa's...well worth the trip! read more

I love this place! I can't believe I haven't written a review. Deconstructed sandwiches just work with my brain. I love breaking it down and savoring each piece and also pairing the pieces together. The food is locally sourced and super fresh. You can truly taste the different. The service is super cool and kind. The price is really great for gigantic portion sizes. There is probably only one other restaurant that could contest the Bread & Board as my favorite local Jax place to eat. The food here is absolutely outstanding. The sandwiches and boards are always handcrafted with love, beautifully presented, and exploding with delicious flavor combinations. My hands down favorite sandwich is the southern buttermilk fried chicken. I've never had a bad meal here, but it's hard not to order this sandwich every time. The chicken thighs are always juicy and well seasoned and crunchy on the outside, and who could pass up on those yummy crunchy pickles, sweet slaw, and the tangy and smoky deliciousness of the white bbq sauce and pimento cheese? It's to die for. The menu has a few staples that seem to never change (like the above mentioned life changing sandwich), but there are plenty of items that do rotate so you get lots of variety and chances to taste something new. They also serve craft beer and sodas (my husband LOVES the pineapple craft soda). If you don't want mixed greens or the rosemary potato chips, you can choose from the many fresh pasta & potato salad options in the refrigerated case. My favorites are the potato salad and southern macaroni salad. They also always have decadent desserts like brownies, cookies, and cheesecake in the case. Have I mentioned I love the ambience of the Bread & Board as well? I love that it's dimly lit with beautiful lighting fixtures. The decor is your typical hipster mid century modern, and there are lots of tea lights and little succulents and plants on all the tables. It's just a happy little low key dining experience, and a lot of the time I prefer that over being at a loud, busy, formal restaurant. The service is always friendly and excellent as well. In town for a conference, and decided to stop by one of the only places open on Sunday. Waited 15 minutes in the front, and no one greeted me, told me how long it was going to be, nothing. Just one woman running around, trying to bus tables, while a crowd gathers in the front, and some people like myself, leaving. The food may be good here but I guess we'll never know because they don't care enough to greet people coming in. read more

I'm lucky enough to have known the boys that own this place since when I lived in Portland. These two have been proud restauranteurs and caterers for years. Everything they make is absolutely astonishing, from the freshly baked in the morning rosemary bread buns, to all the delicious, creative takes on deli sandwiches one can have. From lobster rolls to Korean short ribs with kimchi, this place has it all. Not to mention again a little slice of the Pacific Northwest with a clear nod to Oregon and California when you walk in the door. Bread & Board is my favorite brunch location. Aside from its adorable style and endless options of seating indoor and outdoor are the food is far from any average sandwich shop. My favorite is the Sticky Shrimp Banh Mi sandwich. I get it every time. It's rich sauce and crunchy shrimp is the perfect blend of deliciousness. Their mixed greens is paired with a delicious light dressing that is to die for. They have several options of their own sodas which makes choosing a drink extra fun. They have several picnic tables outside under a shaded area that is a perfect for larger parties. If you are on the side of being a picky eater I recommend getting a board. The option of a board is great because you can make your own sandwiches added or subtracting what you may or may not like. Had some time today and was looking for good grub in Jacksonville and landed on a "Visit Jacksonville" article about the 47 best bites in Jax. This piqued my interest and it was well worth the drive. I was greeted very warmly with a friendly explanation of the menu. I settled on the buttermilk chicken sandwich and it did not disappoint. I have to say though that the house-made sandwich roll and the fries are the best I've had in Jax and I love fries! The chicken was perfectly cooked. The photo does partial justice only. Went to Bread and Board on a Sunday approximately around 130-200pm. It was our first time going, at that point we just learned that they were only on a brunch menu. The person at the register was patient enough to give us info on the menu and to let us know what they had left (a lot of the food that we wanted to try were sold out I.e Wings and Waffles, biscuits and gravy). So our only issue we had was, because of our timing, that everything was sold out. As far as food the wife and I got the chicken biscuit. You get a decent sized fried chicken in between a decent sized biscuit. The chicken was seasoned. By itself one may argue slightly over seasoned. But the mixture of the greens, apple butter, and candied apple and greens, it balanced it out. It was a nice sweet and savory mixture of flavors. It comes with greens and some sort of vinaigrette. I don't like eating lots of greens but this one wasn't bad. I ate pretty much all of it. BUT you def get a lot of greens (as a side and on the biscuits) so I hope you enjoy greens. Our cousin got the cinnamon roll sandwich. The roll was HUGE! Kiiinda intimidating, to be honest, and I like a lot of food. You get a lot of meat and eggs in it along with side of greens. They only thing she and I would say needed improvement is that it was a pretty dry cinnamon roll. The egg was cooked all the way through so no yolk 'action'. It also was suppose to have honey and Dijon. But we felt like there wasn't a lot added so therefore still felt dry. So it definitely needs some sort of sauce/glaze to complement the cinnamon roll while providing some moisture to the dry roll. I would def like to go back and checkout some of the other things on the menu. There were things on the brunch menu I would like to try and I would also like to make it back outside of brunch. read more

Wow, I love this place... tons of awesome options for lunch with outdoor seating options and a beautiful indoor theme. After endless contemplation I had to go with the buttermilk chicken sandwich and I'm glad I did. Double decker with perfect buttermilk chicken and awesome slaw and pickles on a wonderful grilled bun. I'm not even waiting to leave the restaurant before writing this because it's THAT GOOD. Someone please tell me why it took me so long to finally make my way over to this gem?! I'm not from around these parts but this place alone will be enough to drag me out of my east Arlington comfort zone. The ambiance is so comfy even during the lunch rush, and all of the employees I interacted with were extremely pleasant. Making a choice on what to eat is challenging because I'm pretty sure there wasn't a single thing on the menu I wouldn't like. I landed on the Chicken Cordon Leu - a spin on the typical. The portion size is extremely generous for the price. I ordered a side salad but they brought my plate with chips. I told them and they brought be a salad right away and let me keep the chips. I can't even complain cause I get to enjoy the best of both worlds now! I'll definitely be coming back quite frequently now that I realize what I've been missing out on! read more

Came here for lunch when I was in JAX and glad I did. First off, the space is great, cozy, and in a cool part of town I've never been to before. The menu is pretty basic, but the guy working the counter was super helpful explaining to me all the ways the sandwiches could be served, as is or on the board, which is a larger portion and basically deconstructed. I went with the buttermilk chicken sandwich with slaw, white bbq sauce, and pimento cheese along with their homemade chips. The sandwich was good, especially with the pimento cheese and homemade pickles. The bread it's on is also good, but way too big for the sandwich. It kind of makes eating it a little sloppy. The chips were okay and I didn't really taste the seasoning, only salt. At $11 for the sandwich, it seemed about $3 too much for what it is, but the sandwich was overall good. read more

This is a different take on a sandwich. You can either have the sandwich as you would expect in between bread or deconstructed on a board. I tried both and actually preferred the later. The beard was very thick and dense, but everything in the middle is dynamite!!! The salads are also very good; you may need to ask for extra dressing, which you get charged for, but the food is fresh and very good quality. The ambiance is great because there are basically 3 businesses in 1 location. There's lots to see and lots to take in. Also, it's located downtown, so you also get that lunch traffic. read more

I went to this place about a year ago and since then I've been dying to come back. We went on a Saturday right at 1230. There was no line when we arrived but by the time we ordered the line was out the door. The menu is actually hung on the wall and you pay then sit and they bring you your food. I got the fried chicken board which came with 2 large pieces of chicken-crispy but slightly bland, a large mound of coleslaw- also bland, and 3 biscuits fused with herbs- the best part about it. They did provide sauce on the side with some pickles. Despite the portions being huge I was a bit disappointed in the flavor. This won't hold me back though- with a large outdoor area, corn hole boards, and easy parking I will def be back to try more! read more

If you're in the mood for brunch, and the weather is nice, go get a bite and a beer at The Bread & Board. We stopped by early Sunday afternoon to a somewhat busy restaurant. I am powerless against ordering corned beef, so I went with the corned beef hash. A minor quibble is that when I ordered, I asked for a fried egg on top which the cashier happily added without notifying me that it already came with two fried eggs on top, which was not mentioned on the menu anywhere. I'm not against eating an extra fried egg, but if I'd known it already came with eggs, I would've skipped the extra. I also got a G-Street American blonde for a tipple, and my wife ordered the chickpea and farro fritter. (A quick note on service: while the service overall was prompt and polite, the cashier seemed not only disaffected by his job of taking our order, but actively irritated with having to serve us. He was curt and unpleasant, and the entire ordering process left me with a bad taste in my mouth) Anyway, the food. My wife got her sandwich first, and it was basically an incredible looking falafel sandwich on incredible looking bread with the broccoli salad on the side. Seriously, her sandwich was gorgeous and while I didn't taste it, she was beside herself with how delicious it was. My corned beef hash was a heaping helping of slop. Seriously, with the three fried eggs on top and the remoulade with some cubes of corned beef peeking out, it didn't look all that appetizing. Luckily, as I began to eat it, I remembered that you can't judge a book by its cover. The corned beef itself was a bit disappointing. It was definitely corned beef, but quite rubbery. Served in cube form, it distinctly reminded me of those old Spam commercials. The flavor was good, but the texture was a real letdown. The remoulade was creamy and tasty, the eggs weren't as runny as I'd like but still good, and the potatoes and peppers were well-seasoned. Two notes: the potatoes were very large chunks, more like home fries, which made it less of a "hash" in my mind, and more like eggs and corned beef...over home fries. There was also quite a dearth of peppers, so the balance between them and the potatoes was off. It sounds like I'm bagging on my meal, which I get...but the thing is, it all worked. Altogether, I enjoyed this dish. On their own merits, each individual component was a bit of a letdown, but together, they made for a satisfying plate of garbage and I ended up clearing my plate. I guess that's why it's labeled a hash, and not "eggs and corned beef over home fries". We'll be back. read more

Ambiance is great. Open and good place to meet people or have a casual work meeting. The Cajun fish sandwich leaves a lot to be desired. Fish was not crispy and very fishy. Definitely needed more seasoning and it was very dry. Especially with the amount of bread with it. I would not recommend it. The side pasta salad was very boring not worth the calories. Even adding just salt and pepper would have made it better. The hush puppies were great and I wish I had just had that and I would have been much happier. read more

I have not been since they moved from Riverside to downtown but not because of the food. The selection is decent and the ingredients are high quality. I have been going to The Bread & Board since they opened last year, and have yet to have a mediocre experience. The food, atmosphere, drinks, and customer service are always on point! Last night, my husband and I went out with a few friends to have dinner and drinks. It was his first time and boy was he excited! He ordered the applewood ham and Brie sandwich, while I ordered the fried fish sandwich. Along with these we ordered a side of fries and their house made sangria. Everything was perfect! The sangria is flavorful and not overly sweet or obnoxiously fruity. Our sandwiches were HUGE and came with heaping sides of rosemary chips and a garden salad. My husband's sandwich had to have been good-he inhaled it! My fish sandwich was deliciously crisp and very well-seasoned. The ratio of fish to bread was spot on, and the fish remained crispy throughout my meal. The house cut fries are to die for, and if you are a fan of freshly cut fries I highly recommend you order them! As I mentioned, I've been coming to The Bread & Board since they opened, so I do have the regular menu items I like to have. My personal favorites to order are the Pesto Burger and Fried Redfish Sandwich. The burger is impeccably made and has a melt-in-your-mouth deliciousness that other areas restaurants aren't able to come close to with their burgers. read more

The drinks are great. The food service is horrible. The counter people should not have jobs interacting with people. The supervisor took someone's order in front of me, looked at me and just left the register without a word. So I had to get into another line behind someone else. The next cashier messed up the order of the people in front of me multiple times. When it came to my order she started and then left to fix the mistakes she made with the other order. Then she came back to me but was interrupted by the cook who argued that she messed up the order. They had to talk to the supervisor. Then she came back to me to mess up my order. That took 25 minutes to put in an order. Then I wait another 25 minutes to find out the to go orders are left on a counter behind the kitchen, which she never said. Decided to pop in on whim. We were trying to decide where to go and picked The Bread and Board. And we were not disappointed! Actually I'm so disappointed it took me this long to get to this place. It's amazing and delicious! It's a little bit small on the inside but not too bad. The decorations are natural, bright, and airy. Someone was pruning fresh flowers for their tables in the corner. There was no line when we went but the place was quickly filling up! It's also kid friendly. They have a kids menu if you ask them for it. So don't listen to Markos! (Sorry Markos, no offense!) It was a good size macaroni and cheese. Very delicious and home made. Our 3 year old could not finish it, which I'm secretly glad for cause it was so good. Boyfriend and I shared the applewood smoked ham and brie board. There was a good amount of food on there and he actually does not prefer ham but ate it all up! Okay, okay, I slow on the Bread and Board game since I FINALLY visited after seeing numerous of my friends visit this spot. I was highly impressed! Th atmosphere is absolutely beautiful and the layout was very open and pleasing to the eye. My friend and I were the only two people there so we were able to soak it all in. On top of that everyone working were friendly. Upon walking to the counter you are greeted with a pretty large display of side dishes. The Applewood Smoked Ham and Brie caught my eye - I ordered the board for the heck of it (ya know, its in the restaurant's name!) My side was the ham and pea pasta. Anywho, the food was delicious! The board was massive so I'm glad I was able to have leftovers for the next day.I love the pairing with the sweet jelly. The Pasta was a tad spicy but I'd so get it again. Y'all. Go. To. Bread. and. By far one of my favorite places in Jax! I've tried 4 sandwiches here so far and have not been disappointed by any of them. Especially the uniqueness of getting your sandwich on a board is so much fun. Even though it's around $3 more for the board, the portion size of the meat is a lot! I grab a to-go box every time. It was my first time at Bread and Board, but definitely not my last. What a great local spot! I highly recommend the fried chicken board and get one of their handmade pasta or other sides instead of the chips or salad. I tried the pesto pasta salad and macaroni salad, both were delicious. It's lunchtime again at work and I'm not prepared.... You know that feeling when all you want is a sandwich but you're too lazy to leave your desk to go downstairs and get a subpar one from a chain restaurant? No? Well, that's how I felt today but I wanted one from a place I haven't been to before. I pulled out my delivery app and found out that they would pick up takeout from this place so I was super excited. I've heard mixed reviews about Bread & Board so why not take a shot at it? Looking over the menu I decided to settle on the Ham & Brie sandwich with a side of kale and grapefruit salad. Just letting that roll off my tongue is bringing back good memories of my lunch. The sandwich had the option of coming in hot or cold and I went cold to really enjoy the brie. Other toppings included mustard aioli, arugula, and raspberry jam. My god it was delish. The salad was awesome as well. The menu said that the kale was marinated but the leaves were still crispy and the fruit was still tart. I wanna eat that everyday. I have only eaten in one restaurant in Jacksonville... but I am willing to bet it is the best restaurant in Jacksonville. First off... we asked at the kitchen window where to go, and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. She was sweet and kind and gave incredible help and suggestions. We then went to the counter to order, and her sister helped us order. The food... unfreaking believable. Get boards, not sandwiches. You might have read that as "maybe get a sandwich". WRONG. Get a board. Just do it. They're full of incredible, savory, delicious foods and sauces. We had the southern chicken board, pickle board and bahn mi board. Each one was incredible. The pickle board was pickled beans, squash, carrots and cucumbers. The beans! Holy moly the beans! Amazing. The southern chicken board was what was suggested to us, and don't sleep on it. Order it. So good. Perfectly cooked. Juicy. The bahn mi board was unfreaking believeable. Fried, but not greasy, shrimp, delicious sauce... so good! Plus... I made same day reservations for 5:30pm on a Friday. I didn't have to wait when I arrived, but noticed the restaurant was swamped at 6pm. My dinner partner was running a little late, so I ordered the hush puppies while I waited. They came out rather quickly by a food runner. They were steaming hot and had great presentation. Unfortunately, they did not come out with any plates. My dinner partner and I ate them off our napkins. We did notice other tables around us received plates with their puppies. We weren't able to ask out server for plates because we didn't see him until we were on our last one. The puppies were good on their own, but they were excellent with the accompanying chow-chow. I will definitely order them again. I ordered the chicken skewers with couscous and my partner had the Chicken Cordon Lou board with a side of fries. I enjoyed my dish. The chicken was tender and the couscous was flavorful. The raisins and dressing gave it a sweetness that worked. The grilled lemon on the side didn't enhance the dish for me. Should I order it again, I won't use the lemon. My partner's board was huge with 2 large pieces of fried chicken and ham. He ate his whole meal and said it was great. The fries were the most basic part of our meal. They weren't flavorful (may have been lacking salt) and were not something I would order again. Overall, we had a good experience.
