Took a chance on a late Sunday morning with The Broken Egg Cafe. Chance taken because first choice had a one hour wait. Arrived and was greeted and pretty much seated immediately. PLUS!! After being seated drink ordered was taken immediately. Was a little turned off at how little of a selection they had that offered refills. MINUS!! Some time passed before our food order was taken and we proceeded to wait...and wait...and wait. After waiting for at least a solid 45-55 mins they food arrived...in phases. It took another 10 minutes to get all of the food to the table; which o thought was a little weird. I ordered biscuits & gravy with egg and sausage. It was pretty much 2 biscuits with the whole plate pretty much covered in a very bland "sausage gravy". My son ordered a burger which was not built well. Gotta say that the only PLUS about the food was the price. Everything was reasonably priced and all staff was polite. Just wish it was an overall better experience. I will consider giving them another try at some point due to pricing and how nice the wait staff was on this day. read more

I really wanted to like this little place downtown. Random stop after a dr appt. They messed up my daughter's order. She order bacon waffles, they gave her pecan waffles. Honest mistake if I had an accent, I don't. They did fix it. Other than that it was decent food for a decent price. The omelet I ordered was small for a $9 price, but it was good. The restaurant looked clean. Pretty cutely decorated. But the bathroom was gross. Smelled bad & obviously needs some work. read more

It was my last day in San Antonio and I wanted to go to a small quiet place to enjoy some coffee and a good breakfast and that's exactly what I got. When I was there my server was attentive and kind and got everything right, he was also the only server there and did a great job. I got the steak and eggs with potatoes and white toast and coffee. Got to say the coffee and creamer were really good too I hate coffee with just half and half but for some reason this time I really enjoyed it and was caught off guard lol. Breakfast for 2 in a simple neighborhood Cafe is now $40.00. No, no, no, no, no. That's definitely off when an omelete is liquid eggs, mushrooms & spinach, probably should be $8 & a Huevos Rancheros plate should be no more than $5.00, he got one strip of bacon that was all fat and hardly cooked . A small glass of cranberry juice was more than a soda. I didn't eat the toast or hash brown potatoes. What an awful waste. My husband still gave the 20% tip. And look at the receipt 4% credit card fee. Wow, I wish we would have gone to Black Bear. At least I could have got fruit with my meal, and the omelete would have been cooked, and the turkey would not have been lunch meat. The menu here showed I would have had to spend $5.00 more dollars for a small bowl of fresh fruit. What a major disappointment. We haven't been able to eat out in a good place in a long time and remembered this restaurant was here. Sad it's an undercooked meal, highly overpriced, dark & cold in there and not worth returning to like it once was. The wait time used to be turned away. We have slowly started going out to eat since the pandemic. We have been impressed at how other establishments have managed to social distance and follow CDC recommendations. This restaurant has not. The tables were not 6 feet apart, they were at more that 50% capacity and none of the waitstaff, hostess, kitchen were wearing face masks. I should have just turned around and left but for some reason decided to stay. It took forever to take our order, get our food and were not offered refills and had to ask for them. Different waitstaff was coming out to each table without a mask. I could only think of all the germs and felt very uncomfortable. Aside from that, the food was mediocre. It felt like they were not interested in their customer's health nor safety. The two stars are for the stuffed French toast. It was probably the best food on our table. read more

I found this little gem here on yelp. The place is clean and welcoming. It is however a bit dated but the service and good food makes up for it. I had pancakes, eggs and sausage. A small "hole in the wall" type restaurant. I love breakfast more than any other meal in the day so I was really looking forward to this place after reading some of the reviews. It took awhile for the food arrive but when it did I was greeted by large portions. I thought their bread selection for French toast was very interesting. I've never seen it before but it didn't take away from the typical French toast flavor. Although not pictured on my plate, I also ordered a bacon and egg taco. I didn't care for it at all. This was our first time. I ordered my eggs over medium and my bacon extra crispy. My Bacon came back limp and my eggs had runny whites. I just returned the eggs to be cooked longer. Had to ask where my side order of grits was. Said it was still cooking. When he brought it out it was still sitting and water somewhat and you could tell they were instant so I just returned them. Just couldn't do lukewarm water grits. The pancakes were okay but clearly came from an add water mix only. Nothing to write home about. Then I asked for our bill and she just gave me the amount. I asked for the actual bill itself which she just handed me her computer. Then I noticed all three of us were charged and additional 44 cents per plate. They were all listed at $10.99 but we charged $11.43. I asked why there was one price on the menu and we were being charged a different price? Ask if it was due to the egg issue? She said no the price had just changed and it had not been reflected on the menu. Then I noticed there was an still my charge for the grits which she removed then she brought the bill back and I continued to look at it on her computer once again I noticed there was a $1.99 charge for hash browns. I asked did they not come with my husband's plate which clearly showed it came with potatoes. She said Oh no just potatoes not hash browns. But the waiter clearly presented hash browns as the option. I asked if their manager was on duty. Said no manager till tomorrow. Nothing had any flavor then all these up charges were off the charts. Do not waste your time and watch your ticket. I had to continue to ask for a printed receipt. It's really sad that you have to scrutinize a bill like that. It was about $7.50 difference after she took off everything she should not have put on there to begin with and that was not counting the difference of price the menu showed. Came across this place through yelp. It was 2 miles away from our Airbnb and my husband was blown away by the positive reviews. My first impression was it looks like a local dine in joint, very homey vibes with lots of parking spaces and no wait. Or so we thought. We got seated as soon as we walked in and our waiter was very welcoming and attentive. After half an hour of being seated, our waiter came over to inform us it would take another 10 minutes before our food was ready. At first disappointed, I understood because I overheard them talking and they were short staffed; there was only one cook in the back. Our waiter offered us free drinks as we waited which I really appreciated!!! The courtesy coffee really helped, and waited less than 10 additional minutes for our food to come out. I must admit, it was worth the wait! :) My eggs Benedict were beyond amazing and my husbands chorizo omelet was pretty good. I don't even like chorizo and I ate almost half! :D overall, great work on handling the back up and keeping your customers in the loop with their food order. We're heading into San Antonio proper to spend the day exploring missions, checking out the Riverwalk, and riding scooters. Decided on this little cafe because it's closer to the city, and I'm pretty glad we did. Parking and the entrance are around back, which is good. The front is pretty nondescript. If not for the large sign advertising that they were open, we might not have stopped. The cafe seems like it could accommodate a decent sized group, and most of the tables seat six. It's clean inside, and well lit, with menu boards that display the specials aside from the regular menu. It was slightly less than half-full when we came in, but there was a fairly steady stream of visitors throughout our stay. Cute little mom-and-pop type place that serves french toast, waffles, omelettes, pancakes, and a variety of specials. I went with the fajita omelette, which came with seasoned fajita beef, peppers, onions, cheese, and topped with a delicious salsa verde and sour cream. It was so good! Especially that verde, I'm glad they have more salsa in a squeeze bottle because I had to add more to my omelette and to the hash browns. I wish i were able to try this place again tomorrow for something else, but alas, I'll have to carry the taste memory of that salsa verde with me. read more

I so wanted to love this place, even though it is on the other side of town. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. Their selections are plenty and sound great, but the first issue I had (and I know it's being extremely picky) was their menu (a photo of one of the pages is attached). The menu is extremely colorful, the format is clever and it's loaded with pictures, which you would think was a plus; however, EVERY page and nearly every sentence had a word or multiple words misspelled! The menu aside, the food could still have been fabulous, right? Ummm, no. One of my friends ordered the pancakes and eggs with a side of bacon and the other ordered the supreme omelet (sausage, bacon, onions, and mushrooms topped with cheddar cheese) both served with toast and neither had a complaint and really enjoyed their meal with the exception of the toast but I'll get into that lat. I ordered some kind of Hash (don't remember the actually name but it wasn't the corned beef hash) which came with bacon and toast, simple enough! At first glance it looked fine, until I cut into the eggs and found a scoop of onions on top of the potatoes...not what I was expecting! What I actually got was a plate with a layer of hashbrowns on the bottom topped with a layer and I mean a thick layer of chopped onions that completely covered the potatoes, next a layer of bacon pieces (partially cooked), sprinkled with cheddar cheese and topped with 2 eggs over easy and served with toast (unbuttered) . I literally had to move the eggs to the side, pick out all the uncooked bacon which was truly disgusting, then scrape off all the onions, just so I could have eggs and hashbrowns... We had to ask for butter and by the time we got the ice cold hard butter our bread was cold and there was no chance for any of us to spread anything on the toast without destroying the it. The other guests were with me on that issue as well. The staff were friendly. The service was a bit slow but that was because they were understaffed as notated on a sign upon entering. Although, most places currently have staffing issues and they're no different. Probably won't make the trip across town again, since it wasn't anything noteworthy.. read more
