The only reason I give it 4 stars is the price. I ordered the Country skillet @ $11. For $11, I expect to have so much food that I would need a doggy bag/to-go box. I believe the food is definitely quality, but $9 tops for the amount of food I got. Not very value oriented. However the ambiance, location (a picturesque Spanish-style courtyard), friendly staff, and quality (but not the quantity) of the food all won me over. I love the Brownstone Cafe. They have the best Tomato Basil Bisque that I've ever tasted. Their menu has a decent variety of soups, salads and sandwiches. The outdoor seating leads you to a charming courtyard with a small water feature in the center. A perfect way to spent a couple of hours. I've been there when the service is quick and when it's slow. Really, the ambiance is so laid back that feeling rushed does not add to the experience. They also have take-out, which I will use when I don't have the time to relax in the courtyard and they are pretty expedient about completing take-out orders. read more

Waited 10 minutes in the patio sun just to be acknowledged, and then it was to be told to wait because none of the tables had been bussed. Another 15 minutes after seating, I got up to ask for coffee...brought 5 minutes later in a dirty cup. Never even offered water. Meal was brought out incorrect with no offer to fix it. Breakfast, brunch, and lunch, you won't go wrong with this place in terms of food. However, the price may not always reflect the value! Their breakfast menu has great vegetarian options, and if you prefer egg whites, than I would highly recommend the Veggie Skillet bowl. The Tomato Bisque is great too! However, I highly recommend sitting outside because whoever is managing the property needs to take care of the sewage lines that seem to run through the inside of the restaurant. DISGUSTING! I went here for breakfast with a friend and really liked the environment. The place is cozy and nicely decorated. I gave it three stars because the food was pretty average and not terribly unique. We had french toast with strawberries and southwestern omelet. My friend loved how the french toast was prepared on a french baguette; which had a good amount of strawberries and whip cream. First time here was breakfast on a Saturday morning. It was NOT crowded and we didn't have to wait for an hour like we would have if we hit up a "chain" coffee shop. We sat down in the courtyard and ordered immediately. The weather was beautiful and it is so lovely to sit outside and enjoy a meal :) I had the pancake special...everything tasted so delicious - homemade! Their potatoes are to die for. Came here for breakfast--they serve it till 11am! they have a pretty large selection of breakfast dishes to choose from. They have your standard omelettes, pancakes, french toasts...etc. I tried their very berry stuffed french toast with ricotta cheese: it was surprisingly not heavy at all! i've had something like it at mimi's before and it was a lil too much--too much cream cheese and overwhelming. It looks like a medium sized loaf with ricotta inside...didn't really look like your typical toast-looking french toast but it was nice, light, and fluffy! I had brunch here with a girlfriend on a Wed morning. Brownstone Cafe is in the heart of Downtown Fullerton (hence, parking can suck at times). I've been here for lunch before, but brunch time was very quiet and serene here (due to the lack of people). The indoor seating made it feel like we were in the comforts of our own home (without having to cook/clean)! It's a cute place for brunch! I had the "build my own omelet" for $11, where you can pick up to 4 items. I chose cheddar, ham, bacon & mushroom! It came with a side of potatoes and toast! I love omelets, and this was super yummy! Although the atmosphere feels like home, the cooking doesn't feel too homemade. The one downside - the toast was stale. We truly enjoyed working with Kim and her staff. She was willing to help us with whatever we needed, which made the wedding planning process a little less stressful for us. She even helped us with our timeline. As much as we kept going back and forth about the food, she was very patient with us. The food turned out great! She and the staff were amazing at the reception, very attentive to us and all our guests. Kim was so sweet. She brought us some appetizers from cocktail hour and heated it up for us when asked. My friend and I sat at a table outside, it was quiet but the bush next to me bothered me as I ate. The food was alright. Nothing too special. We ordered the Pesto Chicken pasta (which I thought was overpriced) and Matt's Special Sandwich (which consists of apples, avocado, brie cheese, and balsamic vinegar). The pasta was a bit bland and to my disappointment, the apples in the sandwich were really soft...I thought apples were supposed to be crisp! I love this place. I usually go here for lunch about once or twice a month with a friend. We almost always sit outside to enjoy the sun and the beautiful area. I have been here for breakfast once and I had an omelet with sundried tomatoes and artichoke hearts. But for lunch, I almost always get the tomato soup. I switch it up between the 3 grilled Cheese or the Matt's sandwich(I may have the dudes name wrong) I love their tomato soup. I was dying for Eggs Benedict, but The Brownstone Cafe had its own version with "Country Gravy". I thought I'd try it, but that was a mistake. It was VERY mediocre. The gravy didn't hold a candle to Hollandaise Sauce, and the eggs were slightly undercooked and ran all over the plate. They use thinly sliced ham, rather than Canadian Bacon. tl;dr unique brunch food, quick seating but long wait for food. Like every other Yelper has mentioned, Brownstone was the only place that wasn't packed for a weekend breakfast/brunch. The only problem I had was the service. Although there was no wait in order to be seated, there was a long wait for our entrees. We had a stuffed French toast and a custom omelette. I think we must've waited nearly an hour until our food came out. The place wasn't packed so I'm not sure why we waited an exorbitant amount of time. But when the food did come out, we thought it was worth the wait. Our (un)stuffed French toast was heavenly. We had the apple and walnut one. It was a loaf of bread topped with glazed baked apples, caramelized walnuts, and whipped cream. The inside was supposed to be stuffed with ricotta cheese and even though we asked for it without, it still had glazed cinnamon sugar in it. It also came with potatoes, which were also quite good. Its sad, I recall coming here during my college days. Because of the sweetness in customer service, I had frequently taken visiting friends & family for breakfast to this location. Food is a bit greasy but it was my was of giving back to the community. However, with each visit, there has been a noticeable decline in the care taken to patrons. Today was the last straw: with nobody seated anyone visible from front counter (though laughing voices could be heard), one couple ahead of us waiting to be seated. I asked server at counter if we may all just take a seat, as it would be unmistakable (with NOBODY around). Curtly, she responded "no just wait there". I have had the chicken florentine pizza and the feta basil pizza, both for $10, and both were good, just nothing special. The Brownstone has an out of time feel. Situated in the Villa del Sol courtyard .in Downtown Fullerton. There is no out side entrance. Walking through the courtyard helps to create that "away from the city" feel. When you enter the Brownstone.. your senses are struck by the earthy hues of the interior and the natural dark woods of the dining arrangements. About the food... BACON!! IS AHMAZING!!! I ordered the strawberry french toast combo .. 5 baguette slices topped with fresh strawberries & whipped cream. 2 slices (WHY ONLY 2???!!) Reading through the other reviews, I realize I must have been here on a good day. First of all, the weather was perfect. A little cloudy so that the sun wasn't too scorching, plus a light breeze. I was here for a pre-bridesmaid dress shopping brunch for one of my best friends. We only had one dress shop in mind, so we were hardly in a rush to get in and out of the café. All of the girls in my party arrived at various times, ranging from 20 minutes late to over an hour late. Thus, we were sitting here for at least 2 and a half hours from first arrival all the way through lunch. Our waitress continued to check on me but didn't make me feel like I was wasting her time by waiting for girls to drive from all over southern California. When she noticed everyone had arrived, she was quick and attentive with the service. The courtyard is a very lovely place to sit and eat. Shaded from the traffic, with a cute fountain right in the middle and al fresco dining tables. I love eating outside! One negative point - I was SO excited to see that they had pineapple mimosas, they are my favorite! Upon ordering however, they were out of pineapple. So I settled for a raspberry while my other friends had peach and orange mimosas. A plus - they were BIG. A negative - they were room temperature. Yuck? We had to scoop ice out of our water cups to cool down our champagne. The first was a good champagne to fruit juice mix, but the second was all syrupy raspberry flavor. Blegh. The food came quickly enough, and portions were huge. I ordered a chicken Caesar wrap with a side of the tomato bisque, while most others had Cobb salad wraps. The wraps were huge, and the soup was absolutely delicious. I was even able to take home half of the wrap and save for later, and was DEFINITELY full. Overall, it was a pleasant experience, good lunch and beautiful scenery. Price was worth what we received, except for the mimosas. Not too shabby. read more
