The staff here were amazing service was immaculate and super attentive. The burger we ordered was a 7/10 it hit the spot and when you are craving a burger at 9PM it satisfies the need. I had ordered their hibiscus seltzer and it was super good I definitely recommend ordering it with your meal if you are looking to catch a light buzz. My wife and I came in for a special dinner before a show at the 5th Avenue Theater, which is about 5 blocks away. We were seated in a great window booth immediately, and settled in. Our server was great - she explained the drink and food menus clearly and helped us with our choices. The Old Fashioned I ordered was very good. I was happy to see a large single cube of ice, as it should be served. The wine list has some great selections by the glass. The Rainbow Plate of 5 vegetable appetizers is fantastic! We loved the mix of flavors in each of the dishes - every one was good, but the favorites that stood out were the Cauliflower and Kale Salad, Roasted Rainbow Carrots, and Seared Hard Broccoli. My wife had the Alaskan Cod, and I had the Filet Mignon. They were delicious, and expertly prepared. The first piece of my filet was perhaps just a tad more done than medium rare, and when I commented on it to our server, she immediately offered to have the kitchen remake it. I declined, because my mom taught me not to waste food, and it was delicious anyway. The other piece was perfect. I was impressed by the way she handled it. Just to be completely unnecessary, we then ordered desserts. Both the Affogato and the Chocolate Coconut Cake were also amazing. Unfortunately, I didn't get photos of those, because we immediately took bites. I blame the food coma that was just kicking in. The atmosphere is fun and warm, with just the right amount of background noise for conversation. You can see out the windows, but there are enough window treatments to not feel like a fishbowl. The prices are what you'd expect for an upscale downtown Seattle Tom Douglas restaurant - not cheap, but you definitely get what you pay for. Overall a superb experience! I stopped by the Carlile room to have a quick drink yesterday evening before a show, and almost didn't want to leave because I was having such a great time with Andrea. She can make a perfect white Negroni. Second, her food recommendations were fantastic and I was so happy with everything I ordered. We went for dinner and it was ok. The food was bland and just not very good. Mostly had no flavor. I had the cauliflower and kale salad which was pretty good and the fish for my main. It tasted SO FISHY and was barely cooked. It was not flaky like it should be. The flavor was so fishy i could hardly eat it. My boyfriend got the steak and he said it wasn't great either. The staff was super friendly and the ambiance is pretty good. However the high tables are WAY to close together. The waitress had a hard time getting all the plates off the table because it was maybe a foot from the table next to us. Pretty awkward if you are trying to have an intimate meal. Stopped in here prior to seeing Miss Saigon at the Paramount - we got a few drinks and split an Impossible burger. Great service, beautifully themed restaurant, and just a stone's throw from the Paramount. We sat at the bar, and ordered some wine (nice Washington wine options) - our bartender/server was very attentive, friendly, and ensured our glasses were always full. The restaurant is beautiful with high ceilings that have hanging wooden beams (hanging by ropes) and the dark ambiance feels very chic (the perfect feeling if you're about to go see a show). For dinner, my friend and I split the Impossible burger. It was fine - nothing to write home about (as it was just a burger anyways) but I was excited to see that they serve Impossible burger (+1 from this pescatarian). Since we had munched on fries already, our server gave us a list of other sides and we opted for the salad. Overall, a great place to pop in for a drink or two (or three) before heading to the Paramount. Definitely will return next time we see a show (I don't know how I'm at the Paramount every other month but haven't popped in until now) for more drinks and great service. read more

After trying some of Tom Douglas' restaurants, I was looking forward to this one. We parked in the parking garage at Pacific Place because the price of the early bird special on Sundays was reasonable. The deco mixed the modern and vintage styles and it's clean as well as welcoming atmosphere. I loved the high ceiling, low lighting and design in the bathroom. When we got seated, the server greeted us right away. Nice selection of menu. We ordered eggs Benedict, deep dried french toast, a cocktail ( drink your juice), coffee and a side of bavarian meats bacon. I loved how my coffee tasted bold and low acidity. The food was delicious. The service was efficient and friendly. It's wonderful experience and I'll take advantage of making a reservation on Opentable.com again. read more

Yes! Brunch today with four friends was perfect! We were comfortably seated when we're arrived on time for our reservations. While there were several people standing outside blocking the door when I arrived, once inside the door promptly found my party. Our server was prompt, relaxed, and efficient. Though there place was packed we never felt rushed. Once she found that we had allowed ample time before our theater matinee, she paced the experience expertly. My steak Cobb salad was exceptional. The lean, tender meat was perfectly medium rare as ordered. A half soft boiled egg was a pleasant addition, too. Others at the table gave their meals high marks as well. Drinks were also great. This is a funky and good-looking restaurant with some great brunch! My interior design knowledge isn't good enough to describe the style in here -- contemporary modern? Retro industrial? Whatever it's called, they really paid attention the the interior design and decorating, even down to the cool bathrooms. Lots of dark old wood, modern metal lighting fixtures, mid-century modern furniture, jewel-tone wall colors, etc. The bathrooms are really nice and pretty fun, with a 3-tube hanging light over each toilet and a big flavored condom machine. All of the breakfast and drink options looked great, and we ended up going with the Sausage Cheddar Pileup and Griddled Waffle Sandwich. Both were fantastic! The prices are a little high, but I think they were worth it. Next time I want to get the Giant Mimosa! We were heading to a convention and only had an hour to eat. I'm pleased to say that service was very quick and friendly, and we were out with plenty of time to spare. (We didn't tell them we were in a rush; the service and cooking was just good.) One thing to note is that they don't take tip here -- but they automatically apply a 20% service charge. Their rationale is that they want to pay their employees fairly (they also give them healthcare plans and a 401K). We've walked by The Carlile Room when we've been in Seattle umpteen times, always thought we should try it - and we finally did! What a treat! Love the clean, urban decor, and the comfy booths. The menu has a really nice appetizer selection, and we started off with the roasted rainbow carrots. Sounds simple, but they took it to a sublime level with pickled cumin seed, Fresno pepper sauce, cashews and cilantro. Amazing, every one at our table absolutely loved it. The entree menu a bit more limited, but I had trouble deciding which great looking dish to try. My wife and I each got the Long/line caught Cod in a saffron broth, very tasty, although mine might have been under the warming lamps a bit long. Our friends had the Handmade Radiatore Pasta with turmeric butter, mooch and cauliflower, and they said it was one of the best meals they had EVER had! Yep, we'll be back! read more

We made reservations here for 11:30 am on a Sunday and arrived to a mostly empty restaurant. Not a good sign. This feeling of "oops, made a poor choice" quickly dissipated when our server Lucas had such strong and passionate opinions as to the food. We just knew we were in for a treat. I had the Hunters Breakfast - photo posted - a visually gorgeous feast with more than what you would expect included. Try using the specially cut lemons as suggested - a total revelation to me. Unfortunately, in high traffic restaurants like this one, sometimes one can only judge an establishment by how they treat you as a potential guest, and my recent experience with the hostess here during a theatre night has left me never wanting to come back to this place again. My mother and I were seeking a last minute table during a pre-theatre rush for the Paramount, and knowing it might be a long wait, gave our name at the host stand in the off chance that something came up. To be clear, we did not expect to get seated right away, but were told the chairs at the bar were first come, first serve and that they were all currently occupied. I saw a chair that was unoccupied next to a woman who was already eating and my mom went to ask if the seat next to her was available. Immediately, the hostess came up and interrupted my mother in asking this woman and told her that she needed to "leave the guests alone while they were eating" and that she would be notified when something became available. At no point did she say anything like, "we ask that guests step outside while waiting" or " we need to keep this area open to people walking back and forth" or anything that implied we weren't allowed to be standing between the host stand and the bar. Instead of deescalating, this woman got in my 75 year old mother's face, and acted like she was a big disruption. When I went to interject and explained that my mother was simply asking about the seat next to her, the hostess got really combative, took off her mask and said "Ma'am, we can't have people disturbing our guess while they're dining". She raised her voice and did this in front of the whole bar, and needless to say it was incredibly embarassing. I have worked in the service industry for many years, and the idea that a hostess wouldn't be equipped to politely manage that situation is beyond me. I was disgusted by the way she told us to get out and her general treatment of my mother and me. It was humiliating and the idea that she took off her mask to yell that closely to my face was frightening. I cannot speak to the food or service beyond this, and I likely never will, as that left more than a bitter taste in my mouth. read more

If you stood anywhere in Seattle and threw a rock, you'd probably hit a Tom Douglas restaurant. One of the latest additions to the restaurant group is The Carlile Room, located right across from the Paramount Theater. I've had the opportunity to visit a few times, first for Seattle Restaurant Week and then again for a pre-show dinner. The restaurant fills up pretty quickly right around 5:30PM (which is also the end of happy hour), therefore I'd recommend making a reservation if you can. The Carlile Room's menu is broken up into three main sections - appetizers, plants and meats, with an emphasis on plants. So far, I've tried the: -Fresh Egg Pasta Sheets - I was surprised with how much I enjoyed the flavors of the pea mascarpone. The hazelnut also adds a fun crunch to the dish - something I'm not used to in a typical pasta dish. I'd say this is my favorite dish so far! -Handmade Spaghetti - Definitely a must-try if you love pesto. -Side of the Filet Mignon - In terms of quantity, I ordered the side of the filet mignon along with the handmade spaghetti and left fairly full. Just as an FYI, if you're thinking of ordering it as a main dish, the sauce can be a little salty. -Ginger Crème Brulee - This isn't your typical crème brulee! I found it to be almost TOO gingery for my taste - I guess I'm more of a traditional brulee fan. Try sharing this dessert with someone! :) -German Chocolate Tart - The belgian chocolate ganache is veeeery rich! The coconut cream cuts the sweetness a bit, but I'd pair it with a cup (or two) of black coffee. I also love the connection to the theater! We came here before a showing of The Newsies, and The Carlile Room's special menu had a few dishes and drinks inspired by the musical. We tried their Newsie's Fish & Chips - straightforward and tasty. Sure, if you're a tourist and out at a show, hop in here. Why not? The Carlile Room is a good, safe bet for theatre-goers. It's spendy, but safe. Come here pre-show or post-curtain, for either a belt or a bite. I guarantee you won't even think you're in the Pacific Northwest anymore. But if you want to enjoy a connection with something that feels more like Seattle, go elsewhere. When I went, I wasn't quite sure exactly where I was. It seemed to me that the people who were working the joint got bussed in from someplace else, like maybe from Colorado or Arizona. Or were they from Mt. Shasta or Idaho Falls? 'Twas too hard to tell. Even so, the restaurant still had some cute schtick. I really loved reading The Book of Booze because it was in my favorite genre: alcoholic non-fiction! The imprinted plates stamped with the Carlile logo were really sweet, and the selection of rum was commendable. Some of the food was good, too, but the counter service was so calculated, it struck me as almost robotic. The people working the bar appeared ever so slightly out-of-place, although I just couldn't quite put my finger on exactly why. Was it their comportment? They way they spoke? They were all extremely nice, but came across as a bit Stepford-wives-ish to me. I certainly didn't feel like I was in Seattle when I first sat down at the bar, and I've lived here since the age of rotary dial telephones. The Carlile Room has more of a California stripmall cocktail-counter feel to it. At least, I think so. I'm pretty sure the wait staff weren't Seattlites. Anyway, even though there is a mysterious vibrational frequency about the place, there's no reason why tourists shouldn't eat here. And although this local will never need to return, it's not a bad place, especially for theater patrons, spendthrifts, or both. read more

Good food and drink in a refined atmosphere. It's pricey, but the quality is there, and the price appropriate to the quality. We particularly liked the rainbow platter (5 different veggie dishes, each a different style of cuisine - mostly root vegetables at this time of year). The lamb was also particularly good. Just like the namesake of this restaurant, Brandi Carlile's music, The Carlile Room is a mix of 60's and 70's and plays a tribute to a mix of things that all come together beautifully. We came for dinner on a busy Thursday night. We were warmly greeted by the hostess and brought to a booth that was interesting given it was open on each end and faced the back bar. Our server, James, was amazing! Quick with suggestions, this is a server who knows his craft and clearly loves it which is always my favorite kind of server! And because he knew his stuff, we went with all his recommendations from the starters to the entrees. So what did we have? Well, first up was the "bloody Mary" beef tartar which was very interesting and was served with skewer of what you just might find in a Bloody Mary. I loved this dish! Along with this we had the duck fat fois gras hush puppies. I also loved the range of flavors and textures in this dish. Clearly we were on a roll! For our entrees, we went with the Pepper Pot which was a spicy little number with a range of seafood served with some toast in a saucy tomato broth. We also had the pork belly with glazed apples which was great since you can order it as a "side" portion or entree size. And if there could even have been room after all of this, the desserts were calling to us so a gingerbread creme brûlée and an apple cobbler cake made their way to our table. The cobbler needed a little more ice cream but they both were definitely worth the trip to the gym the next morning! Loved the decor as there are tributes to other great musicians located throughout the space be it the large Bob Dylan graphic that the restrooms are tucked behind, the signed guitar by Brandi Carlile herself or any of the other touches that make this a really lovely restaurant to have dinner in. And don't miss the "Book of Booze" that takes you on a journey of drinks from Joan Baez to June Cleaver! You had me at cheese and cocktails.... Apparently, Tom Douglas loves Brandi Carlile so much, he named his newest restaurant after her. Weird, or awesome? I've been eagerly waiting for this place to open, since it's around the corner from my office and I've been watching it's progress. Excellent stop post-Wicked! Stopped in for drinks and food after a matinée performance and thoroughly enjoyed the dining experience. The Carlile Room opened with the opening of "Wicked" right across the street at the Paramount, things seemed to be moving pretty well. We enjoyed some happy hour cocktails and snacks before we ordered our entrées. the mozzarella bites were yummy and the dips were tasty as well, our favourite being the crab dip! I ordered the pepper pot which was full of seafood and zingy tomato sauce. Topped with garlic toast and salmon collar, this dish was a winner! My side "plant", as the menu states, was the cucumber steeped in hibiscus with barley, cashew, lime, avocado, mint, crawford blueberries, and borage. Being a season ticket holder at the Paramount it's a bit surprising that we have not only never been here, but never really even noticed the Carlile Room. In our defense we are usually making our way from work and hit something to eat before we get this far and then are just hustling to get in the theatre, so we get some slack there. Today, we had more time, parked at a different garage, and used Yelp to find a new spot...the proximity to the theatre baffled us - how could we have not noticed it? But yet there it is. We decided to split a NY strip and because why wouldn't I, I got the grits on the side too. The strip came with a medley of veggies and bacon chunks, the sear was perfection. I love a good crunch on a medium steak exterior. The grits were heavenly. I might say a bit too heavy on the butter if I wasn't afraid of my grandmama rolling in her grave. My only gripe is the lack of a leaner cut, I would love to see a filet added to the menu. It's the start of a new season Tom...make it happen? ;). Oh and about that, I was clueless this was a TD place until wife saw it on the WiFi. The ambiance and decor is great, loving the little touches here and there. No detail missed in this spot. Dessert was the affogato because how else am I going to make it through a show after work. Here's a tip, have them add some chocolate for a decadent touch. Mmmmmmm. Glad to have found it. I went to the bar area, where a waiter rudely told me to get out of the way so that she could drop off her used dishes for cleaning. I then asked a gentleman at the bar whether I could order takeout. He indicated I could, but told me to go back to the front entrance to place my order, which seemed odd (as others were sitting at the bar with their orders). I go back to the front entrance, wait, and then ask an attendant about ordering takeout. She says that they don't offer it during "show nights". Not a particularly inviting place for out-of-town guests that stay nearby - especially for those that need to wear masks. Wasted 10 minutes of my time after looking at the menu outside. You should visually indicate that there's no takeout option for a particular day and have staff at the front entrance at all times. read more

Been to the Carlile room a few times, and always had a great time here. One of the few place in downtime that open later, great spot for a drink and really well done food. The atmosphere and music is great with alot of seating so it a great place to hang out and grab a bit, little bit pricey but you get quality food and drinks. The restaurant is sort of on the border between downtime and capital hill, and its a great place to come before or after a movie or a show since the theater is so near by. There is tons of bar seating, long with booths and tables. The interior is has a 70's feel to it. Its opens till mid night which is pretty rare for a restaurant downtown. The service is good with wait staff attentive and the food and drinks coming out fairly quickly. There is a 20% surcharge on the bill instead of tipping. The food here is know for there preparation of vegetables, though not as focused on it as much as in the past. In my most recent trip, had the pastrami pork and the tempura squash blossom. We (group of 4) had reservations last night @ 5:00. We were seated promptly presented menus & server asked for drink orders. We barely had time to sit down. She returned a few minutes later with drinks & wanted to take food orders. We again asked for a few minutes to look @ the menu. She returned 4 minutes later ! We are accustomed to dining out in Seattle and normally you have a table for 1 1/2-2 hours. We felt entirely rushed throughout the whole dining experience ! I came to The Carlile Room to grab a quick bite before a show at the Paramount Theater. The restaurant is absolutely beautiful, especially all the unique lighting around the restaurant. The menu was not what I was expecting, heavily favoring vegetarian options. I didn't know this going in. There are a few apps, lots vegetarian dishes and a handful of meat dishes. The couple next to us actually left and the woman felt the need to explain to me that they didn't like the menu. OK -_-. I ordered the Regular Goodburger with classic West Coast preparation. What does that even mean? I was thinking avocado, but it's just lettuce, cheese and Thousand Island. The burger is huge, looks like perfection and cooked to a perfect medium rare. But as the name suggests it's just good, not great. You can tell it's made with quality ingredients, but for a couple reasons it didn't have that WOW factor me. The meat seemed under seasoned so I couldn't really taste the meat. The sesame seed bun looked great, but it was too much bread, a little dry and didn't hold the burger well. Everything was falling out. The fries were pretty good though and they give you ketchup and really good ranch. Great atmosphere and conveniently located for Paramount shows. They even give you the bill inside a Carlile Room themed playbill. Would definitely come back for drinks before a show. Be aware there is a 20% automatic service fee added to the bill. I finally made it to The Carlile Room. I have been really wanting to try the impossible burger since I read it in a article. The space is really beautiful and the staff here was wonderful and friendly. We got here right after a show had started from across the street, so there was plenty of seating. I personally liked that it had plenty of vegatarian options and a few meat options aswell. The impossible burger was very delicious. A friend had tried it and really couldnt tell the difference between the veggie patty and a real beef patty. Infact everything we ordered was good. It wasnt bad but it wasnt mind blowing. Sadly I left the place not wowed by the food. Even though I had a nice and pleasant server and the space was warm, But the food was just meh. Its also hard to justify a $18 veggie burger that was just A-OK. I would give this place a 4 star just for the burger but the other items was just ok for me. Five stars for service but only three stars for the food. So, I met in the middle with 4-stars. Like I said, the service was amazing and they were very gracious to sit us and feed us just moments before the kitchen closed. The Caesar Salad with chicken schnitzel was difficult to eat--chicken was good but the salad was two huge wedges that were difficult to cut and needed far more dressing. read more

My friend and I visited here for brunch recently and we were really happy with our experience. We were early for our reservation but they were able to seat us right away. After looking at the menus, we ordered some wine, and we liked that the server (who happened to be the manager!), brought the wine bottles to the table so that we could see him pour right from the bottles as opposed to just pouring from the bar (nice touch!). I ordered the bob's red mill 6 grain hot cereal with the apple pie filling, cinnamon pecans, crème fraiche, while my friend ordered the avocado toast. We were not waiting long for our food. My dish was huge and was completely different to what I was expecting, in a very good way! There were plenty of ingredients, all of them fresh. My friends toast was so beautiful to look at also!! Overall, as a Tom Douglas restaurant, this one is actually one of my preferred options from his portfolio. The staff were nice, and even though it got really crowded quickly, we were never sitting around unnoticed for too long. Pricey (where isn't nowadays!!), but worth the trip! read more
