We had a private event here and loved it! The vibe is instantly cool the moment you walk in the door and we were led through the kitchen to our private room. The room is long and narrow and not super big but beautifully done. The service was phenomenal. The servers memorized our names and would ask if we wanted more of a certain dish. The food itself was delightful. This is one of the best meals I had in Dallas! It's also the best martini I've had, period.
Return or not return? 100% return. One of my rare 5-star reviews. This experience checked every box. Ambiance: love it for a date or business. Cozy without feeling cramped. Tonight was biz. Price: very reasonable for what you get and nice Texas sized portions. Service: excellent. You notice how many staff they have as soon as you walk in. Food: one of the best meals I've had in recent memory. Food is meant to shared here, but being it was a biz meeting and my guest didn't eat octopus, we decided to order solo. The octopus rivaled New York's Avra, and was actually charred unlike some restaurants who use that word, and then it tastes boiled. Will order again. The star of the show. Wagyu short rib. Not your stereotypical short rib, gravy on mashed potatoes. Been there done that. This looked like a skirt steak, but has the (spongy) consistency of Wagyu. What made it was the crust which had a brown sugar type taste and then finished with a noticeable yummy balsamic glaze. Had some leftover to-go bc was stuffed. Kids and my wife all said, "that's really good".
Some restaurants serve food. Others create an experience. The Charles absolutely delivered an experience. From the moment we sat down, our server, Chris, made us feel like we were more than another table. He introduced himself, wanted to know our names, asked what brought us in that evening, and genuinely seemed interested in making our dinner memorable rather than simply taking our order. He started by recommending an off-menu Summer Salad, and I'm so glad he did. It was one of the freshest dishes I've had all summer--sweet sautéed peaches, cherry tomatoes, creamy fresh mozzarella, basil, mint, bright lemon, and crunchy focaccia croutons. Every bite tasted like summer. When Chris returned to take our entrée order, I told him something a little different. I don't want to order dinner... I want to experience The Charles. I asked him, "If you were going to show someone what this restaurant is all about--the pastas, the grill, the seafood, the chef's creativity--what would you bring?" He smiled and simply said, "I've got you." I replied, "I'm in your hands, bro." And from that point forward, he absolutely knocked it out of the park. Every course was another surprise. The handmade pork ravioli in a buttery Parmesan sauce was rich without being heavy, with little bursts of olive that perfectly balanced the dish. Then came the handmade twisted pasta in a red sauce that, no exaggeration, made me want to ask for a bowl so I could bathe in it. It was one of those sauces that reminds you how incredible simple ingredients can become in the hands of talented chefs. The braised short rib was unbelievably tender, glazed with a balsamic reduction that was deep and flavorful without overpowering the beef. The shaved Parmesan, sticky shallots, and spinach rounded it out beautifully. The smoked whole Branzino was another standout. Perfectly cooked, delicately smoky, and topped with a bright citrus salsa while resting in a vibrant salsa verde that brought everything together. Every dish had its own personality, yet everything felt connected by thoughtful execution and quality ingredients. Chris never disappeared. He timed every course perfectly, checked in often without hovering, answered questions, and made us feel like guests instead of customers. When you trust someone with your entire dining experience, you're taking a gamble. Tonight, that gamble paid off. If you're the type of person who always orders the same thing, maybe step outside your comfort zone. Ask for Chris. Tell him you want to experience The Charles. Then let him do what he does. You won't regret it.
I finally tried The Charles and honestly it lived up to the hype. The vibe is super lively without feeling over the top, and the service felt really attentive without being annoying about it. We ordered a few things to share, but the artichokes were the standout for me, simple but really well done, super flavorful, and one of those dishes you keep going back to without realizing it. Everything else we had was solid too, but that's the one I'd go back for. It's definitely more of a "treat yourself" spot, but for a night out or special occasion, it's worth it. I left full and already thinking about what I'd order next time.
We had a great dinner with friends at The Charles. It is a little crowded, but the vibe is great and you should have a reservation. Our waiter was super friendly and knew the menu well. He offered a number of great suggestions, all of which hit the mark. The menu is full of delicious Italian fare. The pastas are exceptional.
What. A. Feast! I have always loved The Charles, and I was so curious/nervous about the renovation, but it did not disappoint!! The interior was very much revamped, with new light fixtures and I think the columns inside are new too. We got a nice comfy booth for the 4 of us, and ordered so much food. The pie was a new one for me--amazing pastry and chock full of chicken and olives and other goodies. My drink was so yummy--apple and cinnamon and spiced pear! Other standouts: the spicy cresti pasta, the focaccia, and the olive oil cake! The BBQ pork jowl was also shockingly good
Went for a date night and it became one of my top 3 restaurants in dallas. Great service, we sat at the speakeasy bar in the back which I loved because it was a more intimate setting and still full service menu. I loved the decoration. Our waiters were excellent in discussing the menu. We sort of felt pushed to do tasting menu by the staff, but ultimately decided to order à la carte. It was an anniversary so they gave us complementary bubbles which was sweet! We started with the drinks which were SO GOOD. I still think about the spritz I ordered. Honestly, everything we ordered was amazing. Some of the highlights were the charred octopus, the melon salad (seasonal) and the crab pesto. But my favorite by far was the dessert. The olive oil cake with coconut ice cream was such a good pairing, especially with the unique texture of the ice cream. Will definitely go again.
Came to celebrate my birthday and my party had a good time! The restaurant offers valet and it's very lively once you step inside. We were able to wait at the bar until our table was ready and there I ordered a hibis-kiss. The drink was ok but very citrus forward so I settled on wine for my drink of choice the remainder of the night. We ordered appetizers of wood fired oysters and we did enjoy them. For mains, I ordered the spicy creste di gallo (recommended by our server) but unfortunately it was citrus heavy. My friend also ordered this (vegan) and even after adding plain red sauce - the citrus was still overpowering. We did try another dish but that was citrus forward as well (maybe it's their thing?). My friend did enjoy her salmon dish, though! We ordered sides of mushrooms and okra and these were great! I do look forward to returning to try out their meat options as I'm sure they'll be good and you can't beat the customer service here as it was out of this world!
I came here for a work event and it was my first time here. I was impressed from the beginning of my valet experience and it only got better from there! The place was beautiful on the inside and the ambiance made for a great experience for our dinner. Please see the photos to see what I am talking about. The service was impeccable. We were a pretty large group and this team took amazing care of us. NEVER a did we feel neglected or forgotten. The food was amazing. We had samplings of just about everything and there was nothing that I would not order again.
Very pretty restaurant on the inside. Easy to pass on the outside if you're not paying attention. Service was spot on. They were very friendly, quick, and everyone seemed to help each other out. Before we even ordered, had a free snack brought to the table of a pepper and cheese. It was a nice start and the cheese was very good. I started with the beef tartare and a wood-fired oyster. For me, the beef tartare was the hand down winner. It had great flavors and the cream sauce to put on top was delicious. My main was the truffle lasagna. I did not realize that it did not have meat when I ordered but was not disappointed with it. The sauce was rich enough to make up for it and every bite was delicious.
This place is amazing, 5 star service, food and drinks. The Charles has a dedicated romantic, fine dining restaurant and a lounge/vibey bar in the back. An unassuming exterior, valet only, perfect date spot. Bartenders care about their craft and put a ton of thought and care into each cocktail. Great wine list, a few countries represented - US, Italy, France etc. Food was high quality, great presentation. Manager deeply cares about customer service and comfort of guests. Locals spot. Expensive spot, but worth it for the quality received.
The Charles Dallas should definitely be on your #pescatariantravellist! We had the tuna tartare, octopus, spicy shrimp pasta, and pesto crab pasta and Wowzer! Every dish was insanely good. The tuna tartare was fresh and flavorful, the octopus was perfectly tender, and both pastas were chef's kiss. The pesto crab was rich and buttery, while the spicy shrimp pasta had just the right kick. The vibe? Spot on for a date night--moody, intimate, and effortlessly cool. Great service by Jill!
We went for restaurant week and loved it. Definitely on the lighter side but I wasn't upset it was 3 courses after all. Our reservation was bar setting but we made it last minute so we were just grateful to get in. Bar tenders were really nice and attentive

Another restaurant "week" review. This was absolutely the best meal that I had all month- so good that I forgot to take pictures of most of it. As a welcome snack, we were give a little cup with manchego cheese, olives, and artichokes. It was a nice surprise and a nice way to start the meal. For the meal itself, a friend and I decided to sort of divide and conquer on our mains and desserts, but chose our own apps. I chose the wood-fired oysters which I would give maybe a 3/5. They were fresh, but there was nothing special about them- however I'm from Louisiana so these just may be a hard sell. For our mains, she ordered the truffle lasagna and I ordered the Hanger Steak. These were both 5/5!! I wasn't so sure about the eggplant salsa nero when I ordered it, but quickly realize how much flavor it added to the meal. And the steak was cooked perfectly. The lasagna was also amazing- I was hesitant to order it because I still dream about a lasagna I had in a market in bologna, but let me tell you, this was a close second. We also ordered a side of the okra with crispy garbanzo and a yogurt sauce. Again, I wasn't quite sold when we ordered it, but now I'm trying to recreate my own grilled okra. This will definitely be a go to when I return (which I will). Lastly, for dessert, I went with the affogato and she went with the olive oil cake. She won on this one- the affogato was fine, but there was so much espresso that it overpowered any other flavor that may have been a part of the dessert. We also ordered a bottle of the Romitorio which was perfectly balanced- I'm not a huge Italian wine fan, and this one didn't disappoint. Light and not too acidic. The service was amazing, and the vibe was great- I thought it would be stuffy, but it wasn't at all. Also the lighting was great and we could easily hear ourselves talk but didn't feel like we were talking too loud. Again I'll be returning, likely anytime a friend visits! read more

I've been here two weekends in a row. The food is fantastic and the service is excellent. I prefer the back area, Bar Charles, it's more spread out and I love the bar back there. The bar in the front of the restaurant is a little too crowded for me but it's still beautiful. Definitely make a reservation. It's busy at all times. We went here for dinner on a Wednesday. The place was packed. This place was popular. Our waitress was amazing, one of the most personable we've ever had. She made great recommendations. We got: Octopus: we did not like celery, it did not add anything to the dish but the cook on the octopus was perfect. Very tender. Wagyu ravioli: 5 pieces, 30+ dollars. Delicious, sauced well but a bit expensive. Pork iberico: it was slightly salty but the pears gave it the perfect acidity. Overall, great place. Very nice experience. read more
Always delicious and consistent. We arrived on a random weekday and had a great meal. We did get there quite a bit early so we had to wait for our table as it was holiday season. We actually made the reservation the day of which was a nice surprise! We ended up just staying at our spot at the bar and having dinner there. It's the perfect spot to people watch. They do a great job decorating for the holidays so if that's your thing make sure to check it out! The food and service are always stellar at all the Doro spots and Charles is no exception. Our bartender took great care of us and she even made a few recommendations that were outstanding. My personal favorite was the chargrilled oysters and the beets. Both were super tasty. The pasta is always on point and we enjoyed that as well. I also had a super tasty cocktail! The Charles is a spot I often forget about since it is tucked away in the Design District but I need to frequent it more often. read more

The Charles is one of my favorite restaurants in Dallas and this has remained true every time I have visited. They have a cozy atmosphere, a very cute bar, and a hidden private dining room in the back. The staff are always so welcoming and thoughtful. I love so many of their appetizers--the wood fired oysters and unique cheesy foccacia are some of their staples. The charred octopus is also delightful, flavorful, and tender. For pasta, we always get the creste di gallo (used to be served with rock shrimp but now it comes with prawns), and it has such a unique flavor profile. It's very acidic but for some reason it keeps making you want more. For entrees, they often rotate the menu but the berkshire pork and short rib has always been delicious. TheMajor disappointment, to say the least. The evening started off good, we were sat down and our waiter Rome came and introduced himself. He was very welcoming and told us he would be back to talk about the menu and tell us about great special they are having. After he disappeared for 20 minutes he returned and we started asking about appetizers. He said they didn't have an appetizer menu but some of the plates were small and could be eaten as appetizers. That's when he upsold us on the tasting menu, he explained that the tasting menu is a 4 course creation of the chef and would be an exclusive dining experience and built it up as a meal we would never be able to experience again all for the "bargain price" of $99 each. Since he really did put the sales charm we decided to trust him and go with the tasting menu, I guess since he sold us that he figured his job was done because we didn't see him much after that. First course was Salmon Crudo, 2 crostini's and a salad that was very similar to a caprice salad but with cream instead of mozzarella. The first course did taste good but very underwhelming, just smaller portions of the regular menu. Nothing special. Second course was a linguini with caviar, the linguini only had a lemon butter and the caviar just to added a bit of salty flavor on top. Pretty bland and underwhelming once again. Third course was the sliced Steak Picanha with a side of baked mushrooms and a side of breakfast style cubed potatoes with sour cream. The steak seasoning was not good, it was seasoned sweet and left much to be desired as the main course. I literally had 1 slice and my wife had 2 slices, we left the rest. The mushrooms were good but not something I would order twice. The breakfast style potatoes were completely flavorless and unseasoned, just baked with sour cream on them. Fourth and final course was desert, by this point I was frustrated and decided to make a comment to my wife in front of the waiter to see if it would get his attention. When the waiter was setting down the desert I said to my wife "dinner has been really disappointing, the best part was the first course and it was raw uncooked food". The waiter had no reaction. The waiter walked away and never acknowledged my comment. So we each had one bite of the Dark Chocolate Desert, it was awful. Did not find it necessary to go for a second bite, come on how can you mess up chocolate desert!! Then Rome finally came back, asked us why we didn't eat the desert and I told him we didn't like it at all. He seemed confused but didn't bother asking how we liked the rest of our food, No one asked us the entire night how our food was or if we liked it. I guess they couldn't be bothered. So we came, we ate, we were served disappointment after disappointment, paid and left feeling ripped off. Not a single employee knew about our disappointing dinner experience because no one cared enough to ask, even after we sent back uneaten food. First person to ask us if we enjoyed our dinner was the gentleman at the Valet booth, I told him about the disappointing evening. He apologized, I just told him "no worries, not your fault." read more

I had a reservation for two and my friend missed her flight so it was dinner for one. I was seated at the bar, which is beautiful btw. The whole place is gorgeous. Staff were so great, I was chatting with the manager and everyone was so gracious. I should've reviewed the ingredients more to my cocktail but my first cocktail had too much grapefruit (i can't tolerate too much) and so summer made me something similar. The grilled oyster was divine. I also ordered the grilled beets and had the spicy creste di gallo which was a cool shaped pasta. Honestly, the dishes i ordered were too acidic for me. I really enjoyed the olive oil cake with coconut sorbet but i think the white chocolate tiramisu was even better. There's a speakeasy around the corner as well, i'll need to check it out next time. Valet is complimentary, thank goodness because there's no parking really. read more
Good not great. The staff were excellent I just might not have gotten the best meal. I ordered the bone in pork chop. I don't know why they sliced the pork because I feel like it dried it out. Good flavor just not as good as I think it could have been. Additionally, I love broccolini but this one the dipped in batter and fried made it taste soggy... not a fan. I'm sure other dishes may be better. I really wanted to love it but it just fell short. read more

We had a wonderful evening at The Charles! Both the food and service was wonderful. For drinks we had a "Nice & Sloe" and my husband had something with amaretto, for our starter we had the meatballs, for pasta we had the spicy seafood dish and the ricotta dish, and lastly for dessert we had the tiramisu and the olive oil cake. We are both teachers so for us this type of restaurant is a huge splurge so I'm glad that it was well worth it! My favorite dish of the night were the meatballs and I didn't have a least favorite. We have previously been to Sister and I would say that I still prefer Sister over The Charles but I think that has more to do with a menu and a cozier overall vibe, plus I love lower Greenville, than any fault of the restaurant itself. The Charles feels a bit swankier to Sisters coziness. read more

My boyfriend surprised me by taking me to The Charles for my birthday. I tried to avoid seeing where his GPS was taking us too, but accidentally peeked and I was so excited. Ever since trying Sister a couple of years ago, I'd been dying to try The Charles. We valeted and appreciated the attentive service from the start. Not only did the valet staff help me out of the truck, they also held the door to the restaurant open for us. We arrived 10 minutes before our reservation, and instead of us having to stand around to wait, we were escorted to their lounge where we enjoyed a cocktail. It was a dimly lit room with a stunning bar. I don't recall the bartender's name but he was great! It was obvious that he was passionate about providing excellent service and he was so creative with his cocktails. Our reservation was running a bit behind, and the bartender called for a manager. Within a few minutes, a manager named EJ walked us right to our table and sent us the squash blossoms on the house to make up for the delay which was so kind and thoughtful. They were delicious by the way! We were greeted immediately by our server, Jill, and she walked us through the specials and explained how their dining works. She was very attentive and patient with me when I couldn't decide on another cocktail. Everything we ordered was out of this world -- from the tuna carpaccio to the prawn pasta to the lamb chops. And of course, the white chocolate tiramisu was amazing as well! From start to finish, the service, ambiance, and food are all a 10/10 in my book. I have a sneaking suspicion that this place has changed owners since our last visit. The restaurant is stunning & has a fabulous vibe! Let's start with that & a great welcome from Host & hostess. Went to speakeasy to have cocktails. Reordering was very complicated for bar...we got drinks we didn't order as it also took 30 min to receive second round. Normally it is hopping in there & service keeps in time with the amount of people. Saturday night was off, our reservation was super late so we wanted to stay in speakeasy & continue drinking. Kind of fubar from times we've been before. Everyone is super kind but drinks need to be flowing especially on an anniversary. The menu has changed tremendously & I was super disappointed with our choices. I loved the pastas & meat choices from before. But honestly it was packed & I think everyone should experience it! read more
This was an incredible experience! It was my girlfriends birthday and I think 4-5 different staff came up and said happy birthday to her which made her feel so special! In addition we got a glass of champagne and a dessert on the house. They truly knew how to make us feel celebrated and valued. Our waiter, Keegan, was excellent and very knowledgable and friendly. We got the lemon Gnudi, okra, and The Pie (chicken pot pie) as well as their gluten free chocolate cake. Everything was absolutely delicious especially the Gnudi! 10/10 for experience, service and food! I was celebrating my birthday with a party of 6, we all loved our food and cleaned the plates. I recommend leaving time to explore the speakeasy after dinner. I have been to The Charles a few times and I am shocked that it's not a Michelin star restaurant! The staff, the management, even the Valet staff will treat you like a close friend. The service at The Charles is second to none in the DFW metroplex. Then there's the amazing food. I've had several items off the menu for the past few years and I have never had a bad meal at The Charles. The grilled octopus is a MUST and the best I've had anywhere. The other selections are all amazing as well. If you're in the Dallas area, you want a lovely setting in a beautiful lounge, it's a must (if you can get a reservation). You won't be disappointed. read more

We had such a great experience here. The service, and the food is top-notch. Thank you so much to NATE and Rome for making our experience an absolute five star. The octopus was extremely tender and had a very smoky taste. The pasta was amazing, we had the one with Wagyu, and it was simply delectable. The oysters were fresh, and had extreme flavor. You have to get the Barada salad and a tuna carpaccio it is one of the best small dishes you will have here thank you so much for an unforgettable evening. We will be back. read more

From entrance to exit this was a 5 star experience. Convenient valet parking. Gracious hosts. Every interaction with every employee was so kind and attentive. The drinks were on point and the blue cheese olives in our martini was the best I've tasted anywhere. The bartender was also able to make me an impressive Vespa. We had a few different dishes and still can't decide on which one was our favorite. I would skip the oysters, I just prefer mine simply dressed and didn't care for the pepperoni. It can get a bit loud in the restaurant, lots of conversations and happy patrons. We didn't mind it all and had a great night. The seasonal pasta with waygu and beets and this light truffle sauce made me want to lick the plate. We even indulged in 2 desserts. read more
Absolutely amazing experience at The Charles. Came to celebrate a birthday and the entire restaurant staff made sure to congratulate us. They also addressed us by first name and made us feel super welcomed. The ambiance was very cozy and intimate, the slightly dim lighting gave it a private feel. The food was spectacular. Note the portions are intentionally smaller so that you can try more dishes. Our favorite dishes were the wagyu ravioli, soft shell crab pasta & olive oil cake. The way they combined the flavors really highlighted the quality of the food. Again, there are only a few bites so savor them! There's also a Speakeasy in the rear that looks really chic, will return next time to check it out. 10/10 recommend! read more

My girlfriend and I ate at The Charles last night for the 2nd time. This place is a full experience that you won't get at many places. Chloe and Chelsea were exceptional and took great care of us as well as Josiah. The food is the best you will get anywhere and everything you are served is explained to you like I have only had done at a few places ever. I will definitely be back! read more

My wife and I went for our anniversary. I called to make the reservation and spoke with Bridgette who took down our information and asked about our wedding (COVID WEDDING) When we walked in we were greeted and sat immediately. The service and intentionality of the staff here is unmatched. The menu is designed very uniquely as well. We started with Char Grilled Oysters 10/10, then went to the Rock Shrimp Pasta and finished with the Porterhouse Steak which was presented and cooked to perfection. The setting in the room was great, not too loud and very friendly atmosphere. We went to the speakeasy in the kitchen as well which was an added bonus. Overall we definitely will be back! read more
I will just say wow. This restaurant is so amazing in so many ways. We sat in a back section that is separate from the main area and it was cozy and intimate. The main area seemed jumping full of life and definitely put you in the mood. The food was incredible, seriously. We got the chicken pot pie, tortellini, and the tuna crudo which is one of the more delicious dishes I've had in quite a while. Bar staff were knowledgeable and service was prompt and set with a good pace. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to everyone. read more
Duro Hospitality just doesn't miss. We've been here twice, and it's always a 5-star experience. This isn't even our favorite restaurant from this group and we still love our time here. Don't sleep on the Lumache, but overall, I would ask about specials and listen to your server. This is a great place to try new things! read more

From where are the tomatoes sourced - are they from Italy or American-collected and chemically-ripened?
Jonathan -- I am not sure but everything we had was very fresh and delicious. I would bet they are east Texas sourced.

Yes we have several gluten-free options. Also we make our own gluten-free pasta and house that we can sub in on several pasta dishes on the menu.
Is there outdoor dining available? We are concerned about dining during COVID-19.
