My friends and I have gone to the Corner Sore for years. The Corner Store recently changed ownership. I had tried twice to go in and both times it was just okay but I thought new owner new business, give them a chance. But today was the 3rd time and I will never go back. I ordered a Chubata burger no cheese with onion to go. A young man brings my order out and says cheeseburger to go. And I said it wasn't suppose to have cheese. He says well the ticket said cheese, like somehow that was my fault. Then he says well I can scrape off the cheese for you. I said never mind I'll do it myself. I brought it home tried to scrape the cheese off the very cold burger that had no onion. I just threw the mess in the trash. Sorry corner store. Done with you!!! read more

This is a great small store with some pastries,drinks and other snacks. The beat part of this store that it has that old school charm that reminds me as a kid and that's because they have been here since I was a kid. Service is what it is. Great little neighborhood gem! They have a huge selection of non-mainstream sodas along with a wide variety of sandwiches, burgers, and coffee drinks. They also carry toys and groceries. I loved the Frisco burger and black cherry soda! I would give 5 stars, but my husband's experience was 3 star worthy, so 4 it is! Found this place by accident, it's inside the neighborhood of a residential area. It really is a retro corner store from the 60's. Halve market, the other a deli. It has a nice variety of old school soda pops, chips, sandwiches with a bunch of other odds and ends. They even have beautiful Christmas displays. The sandwiches we ordered were great and just as tasty. You must visit to get a warm feeling of this place. read more

I LOVE THE CORNER STORE! Best lil hidden gem in Pedro. I only found this place a couple months ago and my fiancé and I are IN LOVE with this place! Their menu is simple and yummy, and their soda offerings are incredible!!! They have all kinds of niche and specialty beverages, it's more varieties in one place than I've ever seen before. Also, this store has other snacks and essentials, as well as baked goods and locally made items! Cute stuff for the kids and cool stuff for the grown ups. My fiancé and I like to get our brunch here to go and then go eat at a close-by park facing the ocean. It's a truly idyllic experience, and as someone who's still new to the west coast, it puts literal stars in my eyes to enjoy a tasty lunch while looking at the Pacific. 10/10 absolutely will be frequenting this place as long as I live in Pedro! read more

The place is really cute and people inside were nice, BUT I was sitting at the tables outside enjoy my beverage from the store in the shade of the umbrellas on this hot day, and a girl come out and starts closing the embrellas. When I say her start, I figure she wouldn't close the one that I was sitting or the one the other man at the next table, but she went ahead and did it regardless of the fact that we were all enjoy the shade and relaxing. I ask if they were closing, she said the manager is picky and wanted them closed because of the wind (Hardly a breeze at that time) It made me feel like they just wanted us to leave. I will not go back to this establishment, one bad customer service move and forever I am not your customer! read more

If I could I would give it 2.5 stars. Its a cute place in a charming neighborhood near Point Fermin and the Korean Friendship Bell - one of the nicest parts of San Pedro. It has a varied menu for a neighborhood store and inside seems like a nice neighborhood hang out. I went bc it was listed as a dog-friendly place and took my dog there for lunch. I went in to order but was told I had to keep my dog outside, when had they simply taken my order I would have been outside quicker than the time they took to say I couldn't order with my dog and where I had to tie her up. So I went outside and tried to tie my dog up (but only had a short leash), ordered and went outside to find my dog wondering. I had a meatball sandwich that was good albeit small (4 inches - which might be a good call healthwise), but the outdoor seating is limited to uncomfortable old chairs and a stone bench with a cushion. I might go back, but may not since there are other places nearby that are more welcoming and don't have uncomfortable seats. read more

Even though it has an old town charming, I was a little disappointed with the sandwiche I've tried.

Haven't been recently, but several months ago I got the vegan Slim Sailor sandwich, which is veggies and tofu, and it was pretty good! They have a large selection of soda and drinks, and some pastries. They could definitely expand their vegan options, but the menu is limited because the "kitchen" is tiny. They have a whole shop with some local goods and classic (Melissa & Doug) toys, which I feel are overpriced, but it feels good to support a local business. Every time I walk or drive by this store I see neighbors chatting, walking dogs, walking in, it makes me smile that a place like this exists. read more

This is one of the cutest dining area in San Pedro. Walking distance from our home. Nice stop to grab brunch or lunch while taking a short break from working and outdoor seating with shaded areas. A hidden gem, and something of an institution, in a quiet Pedro neighborhood. The quaint ambience, funky vibe, and impressive soda collection might obscure the fact that the food is really excellent. Hot dogs, burgers, sandwiches, and soups are all terrific. Go in off hours so you have a choice of seating; when it's crowded things can get uncomfortable. Also, don't be in a hurry. But if you've got the time, it can be a pleasant place for an excellent lunch. read more

Okay seriously. I don't think I can rant enough about this place. I felt like I was in an episode of Gilmore Girls and that is basically heaven. It was maybe 11 o'clock in the morning and there was a sort of Folk style band of older people playing. The coffee I had was so so good. The cinnamon twist was to die for. The owner was so friendly she may have been my grandmother. I want to just pack my bags and live inside this store because I love it so much. I am truly blessed that my local friend brought me to the Corner Store and I will definitely be back next time I'm in town. I even bought the mug! read more

I live nearby and have been here twice for lunch and wasn't very impressed. I was thinking "maybe they're more of a breakfast place." So I went there yesterday for breakfast and ordered a croissant breakfast sandwich and a latte - simple. The sandwich was ok - not worth $4.50. The latte tasted weird - like watered down coffee with hot milk. Overall not great. I really want to like this place since it's a cool little local spot, but I think if I come back it'll just be to buy snacks or drinks before going to Point Fermin Park. read more

Been meaning to write this review for awhile now since I come here all the time. The Corner Store is right down the hill from our house. Located at 37th & Barbara, no trip to San Pedro is complete without stopping in and here's why: First, it's like stepping back in time to a little country store similar to something our parents prolly enjoyed when they were kids. Second, the staff, owner, and even the locals who hang there are some of the nicest people you'll ever meet. Third, their prices are very reasonable and they have great sandos, hot dogs, fresh baked cookies and pastries. I go there weekly for a cappuccino and the apple torte, so yum. They have lots of convenient grocery items: milk, bread, beer, etc... Oh and lots of candy and ice cream choices too! Now then, this place's claim to fame is their selection of old time soda pop. I have never seen such an awesome selection of bottles and it makes coming here that much more fun. Honestly someone could come here 100 times and not try all the different sodies :) just makes me smile even thinking about chugging all that sugar. My favorite (so far) is Dang Butterscotch Root Beer. It's crazy good! Places like this DO NOT exist anymore and deserve our support so do it! read more

I had a very good club sandwich. Kind of a classic beachy place. The young women at the counter seemed like she could use a big latte, a bit sleepy and distracted. Only thing I didn't care for was that an iced tea was brewed in a coffee cup, and then dumped into some ice in a plastic cup, resulting in a very small, weak drink. She addressed my criticisms (see original review, i.e. cups, etc.) and she was super sincere in her attempt to explain and earn the return business. I really like this quirky eclectic shop that serves great coffee and food items and colorful toys of all kinds! There are even music performers as if the other items don't make you want to stop and stare. Might as well eat something good and enjoy the experience. I am extremely biased to this place due to nostalgia. However, in it's own right I do think it's a great place to grab a coffee, a snack, lunch, or a fancy soda. I wanted to like the place but the service was bad. I gave the place three chances... First, there was a customer ahead of me looking at the display and the female cashier looked at me and I asked the customer ahead of me if he was ready to order (I did not want to cut him off) . He told me to go ahead but this cashier gave me a weird stare. Second time: I was walking behind a senile trust funder and he stopped to look at the menu on the wall-again I did not want to cut him off so I waited a few seconds behind him. But this old man and the SAME chick gave me weird stares. This is strike 3: I had to buy a candy bar of all things and none of the staff would do the transaction so I could get my candy bar. I left... I guess if you belong to the right uh "demographic" you get good service. Here's the thing about the Corner Store. Since it's tucked into a residential neighborhood you might never find it unless a friend takes you there. When I moved to Pedro 7 1/2 years ago I kept hearing "The Corner Store this..." "The Corner Store that..." and then a friend took me there. So when your friend introduces you to the Corner Store it then becomes your responsibility to pay it forward and take another friend there. Which I do as often as possible. I think this is a major part of The Corner Store's charm. So what is there to love? Tons. It is totally a community meeting place. I actually have a couple girlfriends who met there when their kids were babies and one of them who was new to town put up a sign in the window that she was looking to meet some other moms to hang out with. There is a big bin of toys and books for the kiddos to play with while the moms chat. On top of that, they have good coffee, some yummy baked goods, and a huge cooler full of unique pops - sorry, sodas - including Faygo which is a Michigan favorite from my childhood (thus my use of the term "pop") but also tons of smaller labels. AND - you can get anything out of that cooler made into a float at the counter. Get creative! And don't forget that it's also somewhat of a convenience store so if you live in the area and need some little something perhaps you won't need to trek all the way to the supermarket. Oh and WINE. Don't forget the wine. And then in the back there's a whole section of little gift items and a large selection of Melissa and Doug toys and art supplies. We actually did a bit of our Christmas shopping here last year. They used to have some outdoor seating, but a couple years back some totally uncool neighbor complained about the rowdy retirees and moms with kids I guess and the city made them remove it. read more

I grew up in Pedro, in fact I painted the signs for this business when it first opened, and I love coming to The Corner Store whenever I visit now. on the way to LAX airport we drove by this awsome little store. We searched for a place for good coffee and something small for breakfast! I took the breakfast burrito! Actually my first one and this was the way to go with! I'm going to go for this choice from now on for ever. I ordered with avocado in addition. Some minutes later the nice girl came and apolognizes very much as the avocado was gone for that day. Very nicely she gave the additional $ back. The coffee was delicious, so I tooked a second one. We LOVE The Corner Store. We visit this lovely store at least 2 times a week. Everyone is always friendly and really down to earth. We have a little daughter that we have been bringing here since she was born. She LOVES it here. They have a toy bin, books and magazines that she can play with. Also, they have a variety of fancy soda, great snacks, and even items for breakfast, lunch and dinner! We also love the salsa and chips that are from a local vendor. Love this little place! Their coffee is pretty good, their food isn't amazing, but it does the job. I love the family, local feel of it here and they are the only place I've found my favorite non dairy plant based ice cream at. My kids love coming here too. Wow! This place sure has changed since I used to come here. My friend's father passed away, and I was in town. So she and I took the dog for a walk down the street to the Corner Store. Everybody knew Zack, the French bulldog, by name and expressed their condolences. I took a quick walk around inside, and was pleasantly surprised at how the place has evolved. The next time I'm in Pedro I'll be sure to try out one of their sandwiches, or at least grab a pickle! read more
