Old school Italian seafood joint. It's a small, tight restaurant that seats just over a dozen. You'll probably have to wait in line, but it's well worth it. I was fortunate to have a seat next to the chef. Got to watch food being prepared and enjoy laughing with him and the staff. Had the calamari platter, which includes calamari salad and calamari meatballs. The calamari meatball was probably one of the best meatballs I've had. Super moist and the sauce tasted fresh. The fried calamari was great! Took the waiter's recommendation and dipped it in vinegar. It's the best. Had the sautéed broccoli on the side. I generally hate broccoli since it's a healthy vegetable. But this was cooked just right in butter, white wine, and garlic. Might have to try making this myself! Definitely a good spot to try in the North End! read more

Very good Italian food. The wait can be up to an hour but luckily I went for an early dinner so there was no wait. The seating is a little tight and it's very hot inside since the kitchen is right next to the tables. I ordered the Black Pasta Puttanesca, a black linguine pasta made with squid ink in an olive anchovy butter sauce. It was easily one of the most delicious and interesting pastas I've ever had. One of those overrated arrogant places. Walked in, the place was full. I come up to the waiter and right away he goes "wait outside". It's frigging winter. Alright, I go outside... In 2-3 minutes he sticks. His head out and asks how many people we are. I tell. He shuts the door. We wait another 10 minutes, I open the door and ask him how long we have to wait for to which.. Instead of normal" so many minutes" I get "be patient". Wtf. Alright, we wait another 5 min, sit down and get "menu is on the wall". And I'm sitting right under it. So I had to try and bend my neck to try and read some of it. The biggest writing on the menu is "cash only". Maybe they should use their creativity and do a normal menu for people who cannot physically read the wall. Way too much arrogance for a shitty place. Ended up walking out to eat some place else. read more

Delicious fried calamari, amazingly simple it very tasty mussels in red sauce served fresh and hot in the skillet. Most plump mussels I've enjoyed in a long time. Limited beer options but plenty of tasty wines. Very nice service and cozy atmosphere in heart of Little Italy. read more

I come here all the time for casual dinner. Calamari is must have, so good with marinara sauce. I always get the alio olio (black pasta with calamari in oil sauce). It is usually my favorite. The fettucini is creamy, but a little too creamy and lacks seafoodness. Their most famous is the lobster pasta, but I'm not a big fan. I think it is overpriced for the size of lobster you get. Also, it's quite messy because there is tomato sauce on the lobster. read more

Food was absolutely delicious! I had the fish and chips and my husband had the squid ink pasta with calamari- I kept sneaking my fork into his plate when he wasn't looking because it was so delicious. The waiter was super friendly and knowledgeable. Would definitely recommend you get there early because seating is limited. I am from NY and usually very picky about restaurants since I love to cook myself. However, I was visiting Boston and my friend recommended this little jewel. It only has 20 seats. The fried Calamari was tender and so fresh...best I ever had. The linguini with white clam sauce rivals my husband's grandma's...it was incredible. And the squid ink pasta putanesca was in a class by itself! Waiter Chris was very personable and the chef was cooking his heart out right in front of the packed restaurant! It's about the food! GOT THAT??? i've been going here for 15 (?) yrs. Never had anything but an excellent meal. The only thing ever questioned was the style of the bread. Yes there are different styles of "Italian" bread, but hell he was from northern maine where they think the soft white dinner roll is haute cuisine. One of the few places i'd wait in line. though i try to time it for evening opening or late lunch. It has stayed small (and they got rid of the steam pipe) and reasonably priced for the north end. I also never feel like they are trying to flip my table probably because i'm either at a small table or with a bigger party (the whole big table) and we eat a lot of items. Though i have eaten sharing a table and that is a lot of fun too. Well for me - i probably scared the tourists who were sitting with me into never coming back. Which may not be a bad thing. no bathroom and at 50+ getting across the street in the winter is getting tougher. the wine selection really isn't much of one but you get even less of a selection in places like this is Italia. I think it only seats 18 people but there are chairs out front for waiting. If you eat there in the winter it is toasty warm (even toastier in the summer - no AC) and you will not be attacked by vampires on the way home - bag your clothes if you are at a hotel unless you love the smell of garlic. You want fancy glasses, linens, plates with cute designs, quiet, romantic, candles and a big wine list go to any one of the other good restaurants in the north end. You'll feel so warm and cuddly inside afterward. You want to feel like you're eating in Aunt Francesca's cucina in Italia eat here. Oh yea you are in the kitchen too. You'll leave here satiated looking forward to your next visit. I hate it when i go to boston with a group over 6 b/c i don't get to eat here. It just kills me! I was also in here once when the owner sent the fish back out the door with the delivery guy b/c he wasn't happy with it. I was there waiting for them to open for lunch. If you're a calamari fan you'll taste the difference. I took a couple of Aussies here and his mother had worked in the Sydney fish market her whole life, so they love their seafood. They couldn't believe that Yanks could prepare seafood so well. It also had a feel that they found missing in most US restaurants. Sydney is a foodie heaven so you can put credence in their assessment if not mine. I don't think they serve dessert after all they are across the street from Mike's. We've never asked and we don't go to Mike's for dessert. No I'm not telling where i go for dessert. BTW - the pasta servings are big. even as a fat guy i can get away with the calamari Black Pasta Aglio Olio appetizer and the small fried calamari app. That is under 21$ b4 tax and tip. read more

Very good. I even liked the wine ok and I'm not a wine guy. I usually don't like going back to the same place for dinner on a trip but friend wanted seafood and the Daily Catch was very good. In the North End of Boston, the most famous style of food is Italian. In the late 1800s, there was a huge surge of Italian immigrants in that area and they built up that community so much, it was soon known as "Little Italy". Now you can find a number of bakeries, grocery stores and restaurants that are run by Italians and it has become one of Boston's top tourist spots to hit up. Right on Hanover Street, there's this small seafood place called The Daily Catch that serves up mean rustic Italian dishes with fresh seafood as the star of each dish. The Daily Catch is top notch for many of their menu items but their pièce de résistance is definitely their squid ink pasta. I tried the squid ink pasta aglio olio which meant it was tossed in simple garlic, oil and crushed squid. The squid ink gave the pasta a slightly briny flavour to it, lending the flavour of the salty sea. It went very well with the crushed squid that they put in the dish and something I can see complimenting seafood well in general. In a word, fantastic. Very small and crowded but for good reason: the food is fresh, expertly prepared, and delicious. Had appetizer sized mussels in white wine broth and a side of pasta. Plenty of food and Soooo good! Had to get a second basket of bread to dip in the mussels broth. Apparently we got lucky the night we went...it was chilly with light rain, so nobody was willing to stand outside to wait for a table. We happened to look in just as another group was leaving. Calamari, mussels, and squid ink pasta all got rave reviews. It's small noisy and packed but definitely worth trying. read more

I tried the calmari and black octopus pasta... calmari was oily as hell and octopus pasta had no taste at all... We spoted the place when we were walking by and saw a line of at least 30 people waiting to get in this small place that fits a maximum of 20 people around a relatively large old fashioned kitchen run by a single chef. The 5 stars i gave this place is for the food. The shrimp scampi and the aglio olio are absolutely amazing. The muscles and the Casino oysters were really special. I highly recommended it. Forget how long the wait is...it might be a while. Don't go inside and ask, just shut up and be patient...it will be worth it. The place seats 20 at a time...don't complain just wait your turn, they won't close until everyone has been fed. Old school atmosphere that fully captures the spirit of Boston's North End. Hands down the best meal I've ever had. The fried calamari was amazing. Order the Alfredo anything...you won't regret it, or the lobster Fra diavolo if you prefer some spice in your meal. I find this place rather over hyped and I think it's reputation came rather from TV travel/food shows. First of all it is always packed with tourists (it has 10 or 12 seats to begin with) so it requires and act of congress to get a seat in there. I had read so much about their squid ink pasta (black pasta) so tried that and found it very oily and salty and was rather unimpressed. The groups sitting next to us had ordered a large pasta and lobster dish which definitely looked better than our food. As I mentioned above, the seats are limited, the tables are small, and you will be squeezed and will be sharing your table with others (which can actually be a good thing). The service is almost non-existent and they do not accept reservations. read more

Came here once before, it was okay. This time I'm bringing my mom to try the Italian food. I came in at 11:45 and went into at around 12:15. The chef and the waiter changed, not the same person as I came before. After everyone sat down, I raised my hand cause I thought I could take the order. Then the chef yell at me:"What? What do you want" with a very uncomfortable tone and I told him I would like to make an order. Then the old lady waitress started yelling at me and said" I know! But you are gonna wait! Everyone should wait outside for the line and here, this is Daily Catch, if you don't wanna follow the rule, you can leave." ALL I DID IS RAISED MY HAND. The food is just OKAY I mean. We ordered a scallop linguine, a ground squid black pasta (appetizer portion), a little neck pasta and an appetizer, no drinks. The total came to $94. At the time of our visit, the online menu was out-of-date. The actual price of most entrees are about $25ea, not $21 as listed. The food is fine, but nothing to be raved about. Bear in mind, this place doesn't even have a customer accessible washroom, the pasta were served in the pans they were cooked in, water in flimsy disposable cups (self-served, no ice), the server was a crude, impatient old lady who doesn't appear to care whether you are having a good experience. Also, they take only cash. To top it off, an 18% gratuity is added to your bill total, whether you like it or not. I will never come back to this place. I stood in line for this restaurant for two hours. My friend insisted that we go so as we are waiting in line the first hour we are debating wether we want to keep waiting in line or not. Eventually we were in line so long that it just seemed impossible to leave. I was sure as soon as we walked away the server would come inside and seat everyone immediately. Anyways back to the review. The place is small. It's tiny. Very "homely" vibe. They only have a few tables inside and the kitchen and dish washing station is in the same room as the dining area. When you sit down they immediately bring you water and bread (not toasted) and butter. There is one server for the entire restaurant and he also serves as the cashier and host. Something tells me he's either the owner or associated with the family that owns the place based on how much effort he was putting into coordinating things. The menu is written in chalk on wall and their specialties are fried calamari and pasta dishes with various seafood add ons. They also serve other dishes but these seem to be their most popular items. We got an order of friend calamari to share I ordered shrimp and scallops with pasta in a white sauce and my friend ordered calamari pasty with red sauce. Both were delicious but I preferred the white sauce. The red sauce has a sweet taste I wasn't crazy about. The wait was absolutely insane so what led me to give the place 5 stars? The food is delicious and the service is amazing. If you have the patience to wait then I definitely recommend it. read more

The seafood was excellent! I tried the Haddock fish and it was really fresh. The pasta was a good accompaniment as well. It was a nice cosy atmosphere. The only downside was that one of the staff was pretty rude to us. He was constantly talking about us behind our backs including noting that he will delay our order. When we paid the bill, he was complaining loudly about how slow we took to get our change out, pointing out that it was just some coins. Tiny place on the North End can seat barely 15 people, causing a massive line to queue outside. Food was decent but I wouldn't recommend if you have to wait more than 20 minutes. We went with the black squid ink pasta that they seem to be known for, can't say I was impressed with the aglio olio. The noodles were nicely cooked but the squid ink doesn't add any real or unique flavor - it just looks pretty cool. I just loved so much that is my new favorite place in Boston now. Went the first time to celebrate my friends birthday and I just loved. Fresh fish, this unique black past ( made from squid ink) and fresh ingredients. The plates are a decent size to share if you not really hungry. It's a must go on those hot summer night.
