My boyfriend and I were visiting the Poconos this past weekend for our anniversary and saw an advertisement for their Shrimp Fest. We made reservations for 6 pm on Saturday night for a table outside. A few minutes after OpenTable confirmed the reservation, I got a phone call from the restaurant's number, which I missed. I called back and spoke with a gentleman who informed me that their deck would not be open that night. I said no problem, a table inside would be fine. He said "we'll seat you in our lounge area." I said ok. He wasn't exactly rude, but his tone was very abrupt and didn't seem very welcoming. I wish I'd canceled the reservation at that point, but wanting to give the benefit of the doubt, we decided to give it a go. We arrived about 10 minutes prior to our reservation time and checked in at the host station, where we were told it would be just a "few minutes" before our table would be ready. Since we were a few minutes early, we figured no problem. We waited until about 6:15 when we decided to get a drink at the bar. We'd almost finished our first round when we were called to the host station - of course we assumed this meant our table was ready, especially since at that point it was around 30-40 minutes past our reservation time. We were instead informed that they still didn't have a table in the dining room ready and we could either continue to wait (and they could not give us any idea of how long), or take a table in the bar area. We were annoyed but pretty hungry at this point so we opted for the bar table. We sat for a few minutes before the bartender came over with menus and to take our drink order. No mention of any of the Shrimp Fest specials, nor any separate menu for it. And the bartender was not only working the bar, but working as the server for the entire bar area. She was very nice and doing her best to be attentive, but was obviously overwhelmed. I had to go back to the front to take a photo of the specials board to see what they had for the Shrimp Fest menu. (Meanwhile, shortly after we sat down, my boyfriend watched multiple parties of 2 get seated in the dining room.) We ordered the steamed clams and bang bang shrimp for appetizers. They were just okay, not bad, but nothing spectacular. For our entrees, my boyfriend ordered the steak & shrimp and I ordered the shrimp carbonara. We waited quite awhile longer for the entrees. On a positive note, the steak was cooked well. But for a "shrimp fest" the shrimp portion was, well...shrimpy. Just 3 shrimp with the steak. I was expecting the carbonara to have shrimp in the pasta, but instead it came with 4 shrimp just perched on the edge of the plate around the pasta. The shrimp were pretty good, but the pasta was cold and gluey. We did order an apple galette to go for dessert, which was very good. Overall the experience was pretty disappointing, especially for the price. We will be going elsewhere the next time we're in the area. read more

Our server, Michael, was wonderful -- that was the good part. The big mystery/let-down was the actual dock: When we arrived, the hostess told us right away, "You're sitting inside." When I mentioned that I'd requested the outdoor area when I made the reservation, she said all the tables there were reserved -- and yet for the almost-two hours we were there, it was more than half empty. In fact, one party (of three women) who had been seated out there, moved indoors. I'm sure the reason most people go to The Dock is for the view, not the food which, as other reviewers have noted is pretty meh. So ... if there's some secret to being able to sit out there, it would be nice to know it. (Also, I was not able to submit this review through OpenTable -- kinda figures, honestly.) The food went from being just OK to being bad. This is so disappointing to me as Settlers and Glass are 2 of our favorite restaurants in the area. We wont be back. - hence the 1star. I've eaten here a couple of times. Good atmosphere and lake views. Decent service. Uninspired average food at higher prices. Hand helds are decent, but entrees should be better at the price. We got the crabcakes as an appi, pretzel sticks, and bang bang shrimp. Also got the lemon butter salmon entree and Caesar salad. Neither good. For some reason they only offer a Cajun tarter sauce which with their seafood which was horrible. No regular tarter sauce. Salmon was burnt and dry, flavorless non-seasoned brown rice, and cajun Califlower as their side vegi... what's with pushing bad tasting cajun? We had made reservations plenty in advance and had requested outdoor seating. Once we arrived, a gentleman was very curt and rude when informing us we will not be able to sit outside. No explanation or options were presented, no professional courtesy apology. Then we were stuck in a conference room with zero ambiance, there was no music and we could hear ourselves swallow, it felt so isolated from the restaurant that we could have just stayed home to eat. We are here on vacation and this place was great! Kid friendly (eating with a 4-year old and a 2-year old), great server, beautiful lake views, and delicious food. We were a group of 6 and had a variety of food (1 pizza, 2 kids meals, 3 seafood dishes) and all were delicious! The Paupack punch was yummy too!! Service is atrocious . Sat at the outdoor bar where the bartenders are lacking in making drinks or people skills. Thats what you get for hiring kids who have no work ethic . Also tried orderinga frank from the outdoor grill for 20 minutes and after a comical run around about the grill being to busy and being verbally abused by the grill workers we left and went to Grishams and were treated like a customer should be. I have frequented The Dock (and past names) for over 30 years. Tonight, I walked in with my toddler asking for patio seating. I was told, in a cold short tone, there were no patio tables available due to reservations. In the hostesses defense, she did said there were lovely tables inside with a view. I asked if the outside bar was accessible, since my husband was currently working in the car and said i would be back. Upon return, i was coldly greeted by the hostess (who i learned was the manager). I told her i would wait in the main bar and see the patio out and she said the soonest reservation outside was 8:00pm. I did confront her negative tone and walked out. Upon walking out, i heard her say "she is just emotional". This triggered me, and i did return. Upon return, i confronted her with the fact that i heard she said "She is just emotional" and she said she did not say this. It is difficult to convey the full experience within this review. If I was a reader, i would disregard this and chalk it up to an "angry customer". In my earlier life, pre-children, i was an avid Trip Advisor reviewer. Please take into account my prior reviews and know that i was highly disappointed with my experience tonight. To the point that i was made upset, physically. I ended up eating at the Boat House who greeted us with a friendly hello and "ohh" and "Ah" over my toddler! It was a night and day comparison. I will visit the Dock again because their patio experience is the best in Hawley. However, each and every time i return, i will share my experience. Was pleasantly surprised when we arrived for lunch. The new owners have done some great updates to a number of things. Specifically, the original outside deck has been widened and lengthened. A gas fireplace was added to the outside area. It's very nice. Our meal was good, and waitress, Nina was even better! I ordered their Philly Cheese Steak. It was a good sandwich. Some others in our party had a burger with smoked Gouda cheese and jalapeño peppers another ordered a crispy chicken bourbon nuggets that were very good. Went on a Thursday evening in early October. There was no wait and we were sat in the "outside" section right away. There was a fireplace, which was really lovely. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. I got a cheeseburger and fries - both were great. My mom got the crab cake sandwich, which she liked so much she got again on Saturday night. When we arrived at 530pm on a Saturday Night (early October), they said we could either sit in the bar area or wait until 830pm to be sat outside. We opted to get take out and eat at home. There doesn't seem to be a lot of lake side dining at lake Wallenpaupack so this looked promising. We were there at lunchtime and were offered a table in the bar right away or lake view in 45 minutes. We decided to wait. We each got a drink from the bar and the bartenders were great. Good choice of local craft beers. The wine was nice and cold! We were told there were a few tables outside to take our drinks. There were three that had lake view and we sat and as soon as we did our table was ready. So 10 minutes not 45! We had pretty good service but the big wait was For our food. When we did get it it wasn't very hot. The guys had the lobster roll. It wasn't great. It had tiny bits of lobster,shrimp, and carrot pieces. I know lobster rolls are made differently in parts of the country but this was just not how we like it. My sister had a turkey sandwich on home made ciabatta. She said it was ok. We were recommended by someone at the settler's inn to visit a the Dock for lunch. We visited Masthope at a strange time because everything was closed in town the week we visited. It was a half hour drive but the food and service was worth the drive. My husband ordered the lobster bisque and salmon with risotto. I ordered the crab appetizer with Caesar salad that can with herb crusted pizza underneath. My son ordered the popcorn chicken fingers with fries. We were all very happy with our food! Everything was delicious. The restaurant was pretty empty which for us was a bonus in times of covid. We also ordered the ready to heat dinner meals for 4. It was a busy summer Friday and our first visit to the Dock. It was very disappointing. My daughter ordered a Bud Light which was served in the bottle. A glass would have been a nice offer. She ordered the Mahi Florentine. The fish was inedible. It was dry and favorless. I had the Linguini with shrimp. It came with 4 shrimp. It was okay but would have been better accompanied by some bread. We spent $119.00 and left feeling extremely cheated. We saw many meals left uneaten on their plates. I think this establishment is very deserving of a 3.5. It was a little subpar all around. We had reservations for two and wanted to sit outside to see the sunset over the lake (the reason we drove out to this restaraunt in the first place) but the outdoor seating was being used for a private party so we just sat in the dining area. The social distancing and glass barriers were still in place which I appreciated and the view was still beautiful from the window. We were promptly served and quickly got our drinks and appetizers. We started with the crab dip which was delicious and hot and worth the money. We also got the shrimp cocktail which was not worth the money and would not recommend. It was 4 shrimp and not very good. For dinner we got the margarita pizza which was a little lack luster and just kind of a boring pizza. I think you are paying for the ambiance and the resort prices, however, we got neither of these advantages and the food was subpar so I do not know if it was worth the drive. Waitress was extremely sweet. We were seated inside right away for a Saturday afternoon. We had the tuna poke for an appetizer and that was outstanding! I had the appetizer fish tacos as a meal and the flavor was outstanding. My guest with me had the Willey Mac which was delicious but had a heavy cream sauce. My other guest had the chili soup which came out of the kitchen cold but the waitress took care of it right away and the new soup brought out was piping hot. The Dock on Wallenpaupack just had a late lunch there April 24. They say reservations recommended but we called and they said there is a wait so they will not take reservations!?!? Ok place was recommended so off we went. 40 minutes wait for table. Not really (more like 60 minutes) but ok. So lunch turns into Linner (Lunch/Dinner) we had drinks, an appetizer with two entrees. Drinks were ok, nothing special! 3/5 Appetizer was Steamed clams with drawn butter and had very little flavor to them, the drawn butter was zero taste almost watered down so 1/5 for that Wife had the Chicken Champagne with rice which was very dry and well over done, Little flavor to it, the cream sauce was ok. 2/5 I had Cheese Steak sandwich with fries and the steak was way over done, dry and hints of cheese throughout the sandwich but VERY little cheese! The fries were the only decent thing about the entire meal, they were crispy, moist inside seasoned but very decent. I have to say the meal was a real disappointment to us. Views are ok (if you like to look over the roof of the lower building) but really nothing spectacular or great about them as in other reviews. I can say we will be very hard pressed to try it here again. Overall a very OVERPRICED WITH OVER DONE FOOD for your money. Better choice is pack a lunch and go to the Dam walkway and have a picnic with better views and probably a better lunch! 2/5 stars overall for this place!!! read more

We are locals in the area and had been coming to this place for years before it changed from Ehrhardts to The Dock. Our favorite time to come was for Trivia On Thursday night. Back then the food was OK, but the staff was pretty friendly and accommodating. Fast forward to the past year - the service is teeeeerrrrible and the food is way overpriced for what it is. Multiple times over the summer we waited 40+ minutes for a table- when there are open tables available. Then after being seated the service is incredible slow. Fifteen plus minutes before even being approached by our server. In all these instances the host/hostesses either ignore you if you approach them, and if they grace you with their attention give an incredible amount of attitude towards you. It is some of the rudest service I have experienced. Since we do very much enjoy the trivia (seriously the guy who runs it is great) - we decided to give it another chance assuming that the busy summer months brought in additional clients and temporary employees. When going in this past Thursday there was a function going on - so well wanted to confirm if there was trivia and they were seating regular customers. The hostess completely ignored us standing there, and when we asked, she literally rolled her eyes and left the desk. Arrived to the area around 6:30pm and was seated right away in the bar area. I had the cheesesteak, subbed the fries with salad and my wife had the grilled chicken sandwich. I was wary about ordering anything else based on the previous reviews but I suppose it depends on the day. The service we received frome Joe was prompt and courteous and the food was hot and tasty. I feel the prices for the main dishes are overpriced but this is a vacation area in summer after all. Please do NOT come here if you have a gluten allergy or celiac disease. I called and asked if they had gluten free options, which I was told they had gluten free bread for the sandwiches. I came in, got sat down and asked for one of the sandwiches but gluten free. The waitress stared at me like she was annoyed- then said they only had gluten free pasta so I ordered that instead which is fine. Mistakes happen maybe the girl that told me they had GF bread was new, wasn't really upset about that. I did ask to make sure it was gluten free because I have celiac disease- which she kind of cut me off when I mentioned it (making me feel like a nuisance to be honest). Anyway I got my "gluten free pasta" and ate a fair portion of it. Started feeling really sick. My friend tried the noodles and confirmed there was no way they were gluten free (I can't tell the difference anymore) and also said the chicken made her stomach a little sick. Called two days ahead and made a reservation to have dinner on the outdoor deck with a view of the lake. Brought a special couple with us to enjoy the view on a lovely day. Instead, got seated behind one of those metal heating towers that wasn't even in use since it was July. Asked to be moved to one of the empty tables with a view of the lake. Was told they had pre-set the tables and we couldn't be moved. Tried to enjoy the view of the metal heating tower all through dinner as the empty tables remained empty the whole time until we left. Place was not cheap, either. If this is the kind of customer service you enjoy, The Dock is for you. As for us, we're done. read more
