My guy and I decided to try this spot since it's near us.last week. Inside it was decorated for Halloween . We were greeted and seated quickly and it was crowded . Our server was very friendly and polite. The menu is pretty standard but they do cook up what others consider "old fashioned " grub. I went with eggs (over medium) ,home fries, juice and toast while my other half went with ham and cheese omelet and coffee. The server asked if I like my potatoes crispy, odd but I told him that was fine. We had time to chit chat , and look at the pictures under the Halloween decor on each section and noticed the Rat Pack, some Western items and the rest was mostly John Wayne . Our food came pretty quickly . The first thing I see is that crispy was more like a bit on the burnt side for me. My eggs were cooked as ordered and after I asked for the green Tabasco sauce the "crispy potatoes" weren't too bad. Now for him, hmm, bad. His omelet was yellow on the outside, obviously from yolk color but inside he found the whites were visible and runny/uncooked as if the omelet was not fully cooked before folding it over ? We got there late, as their website had a different closing time (they close at 1pm). We arrived at 12:45 - they were gracious and welcoming. We both ordered breakfast and the food was quite good! I had the traditional French toast and sausage links. Both dishes were prepared well and tasted as expected (which is very good). The portions served were large, and we couldn't eat it all. This is a great place to come for a casual sit down and a good meal. Ambiance is a typical small restaurant 'vibe'. You can have a conversation without loud noisy interruptions. Service was okay, decor was uninviting, food was bad. There was one cook who kept walking back and forth from the bathroom to the front counter, staring at ever person who walked into the restaurant. His meandering around was kinda creepy. Also he had a single use apron on that he didn't throw away before visiting the bathroom. I ordered the chorizo scramble and it was basically inedible. The hash browns tasted sour for some reason, like they had poured buttermilk in them. The chorizo used in the eggs tasted spoiled. My wife ordered eggs with a hamburger steak. The hamburger steak was unseasoned. Just plain ground beef with no flavor. I didn't finish my meal for fear of food poisoning. This restaurant has an odd way of marketing. I ordered an omelet to be delivered and I almost s*it my pants when I saw a freakin skull and bones on the food container with the word "poison" on it and some goofy arrow pointing to the contents inside. I like Halloween just as much as anyone but it's a little odd to get a delivery with those type of hand drawn graphics. Even if this place was awful, I'd have to give it an excellent review simply because my parents loved coming here and the staff was always so nice to them. When we gathered for my dad's funeral, we came here one morning. His favorite waitress cried when she learned he had died. The decor never changes, with lots of pictures of stars such as John Wayne, the Brat Pack, etc...I'm not sure if they were going for some kind of cohesive theme but, if so, I'm definitely puzzled how all the real dollar bills posted on the walls fit into said theme. But, who cares? Sometimes it's just nice to go into a place and know what you're going to see! There is great comfort in familiarity. OK, here's my secret tip and the reason why my folks loved this place so much. This is one of those restaurants where there's a secret menu item - something not printed up, that you have to know to order. Go in and ask for the Workman's Special. It's ridiculously cheap and includes a huge breakfast of two eggs, three slices of bacon, orange juice, another beverage (coffee, soft drink) and a choice of pancakes, grits, or home fries. This is some good eatin' for pennies. I love that no matter how busy they get, if you ask for eggs over medium they take the time to make sure they are not too runny and, for that matter, not cooked til the yolks are hard. They also make a great cinnamon roll, though I scarcely ever order it. Waitresses are friendly and good at what they do. I've seldom ever waited very long to order or receive my food in this place. Every time I come here with my brothers and their families, plus a host of family friends, I can almost feel my parents looking on with approval. This joint definitely gives you that "Cheers" sitcom vibe when you walk in, there seems to be a lot of regulars, all the staff are friendly. The portions are huge, rashers of bacon/sausage served with breakfasts. If you order a burger, the mountain of fries comes on their own regular sized plate. The food I might classify as standard American fare, no surprises. I do love their French toast, it is buttery, crispy and just the right amount of sweet. My avocado was DARK brown & when I called to explain my situation the lady yelled at me saying "it's a brand new avocado". Anyone who eats avocados knows it takes 30-45 min before it starts to change color, if I ordered my food 15 min before I picked it up there's no possible way the avocado could have changed coloration that fast if it was new. After being on the phone arguing with the hostess about a refund she says for me to bring back my food in order to be refunded; when I went to take my order back, she didn't want to give all the money she only wanted to give me a portion of it since I "picked at the food" (as if she was going to resell this nasty uncooked bacon & burnt egg to another costumer) when I asked for the rest of my money she said I'd need to call the police before she gives me anything, after calling a coworker over to try to fight for my refund. I just read 2 very disturbing reviews about the EGG CONNECTION and how they view the gay community. So let me say this before you pass judgment on this restaurant. I've known this family for over 10 years. They are the most respectable family I know. I first went there back in 2013. Their son Levi was our waiter, and he was the most respectable person I had the pleasure of meeting. He was very good at what he was doing. I came to respect this kid. Every time I went to eat there, he knew exactly what I wanted to eat. Within 5 minutes of sitting down at a table, I had my drink in front of me. No matter what I ate, Levi deserved the $10 tip I left him. I met his entire family when I was there. His dad is an awesome cook, and his mom is one heck of a baker. When Levi told me that his mom would bake all the desserts at home, then bring them to the restaurant, this showed me the LOVE this family showed to their customers. As for the rumors about them not accepting "gay" people in their restaurant, this is complete BS. This family are accepting of anyone who goes to their establishment. Believe me, if I hadn't moved to Ohio 6 months ago, I would be at the Egg Connection every other day. I miss the biscuits and gravy, not to mention the Soup of the Day. I miss Levi and wish him the best for his future. His brother and sisters are so awesome. I ordered the Salmon Benedict while my wife has the lox plate. Hers was great and way to much to eat. Took lots home. Mine on the other hand was not so great. Two muffins with cooked Salmon a poached egg and sauce. Had I not ordered the grits, would have been a very tiny breakfast. My husband asked what he should have, and Ryan's suggestion was the Sicilian omelette. I had the turkey cordon bleu omelette, and we both had the home fries, extra crispy. (I'm from the school where crispy is good, crispier is better, and super crispy is euphoric.) Every place should ask that, because I for one am tired of getting these pallid, sickly looking potatoes at other breakfast joints. Both omelettes were amazing. Man this place is the type that has owners that definitely do things there own way! You walk in and it's like stepping back in time with their old school pictures and darker theme. I feel like I was at my grandma's place with how old and outdated it looked. We where sat and started to look at the menu and I see on the bottom it says, "$2.00 charge for items that are shared". Why would you charge me if I want to share my food with someone?? I ordered my food and they asked if I wanted my bacon crispy, I said yes I would. Then asked if I wanted my home fires crispy and I told them no. When I got my food my bacon was limp and my home fires where half burnt. I ate my meal and really only gave it a 3 out of 10 if I had to. My girlfriend got the french toast and eggs, which she said was good. I got to the front to pay and they charge you 4% to use a card no matter how much the bill is. I understand that this cost the business a little to use, but these little add on should be added into your prices so you dont nickle and dime your customers. For two of us it ended up being about $25 with tip. That is really expensive for the quality of food that we got. The hostess, who has been there for nine years, was super friendly, and we were able to get a seat right away, even though they were busy. There is a kind of Southern twist to some of the food here: they have sweet tea and grits. I'm a hashbrown kinda girl, so I was disappointed that they don't have them. They do have home fries though. They have tons of omelets to chose from. The plates of food are massive. You could totally split a meal, which seems to be a common approach because they charge 89 cents to share food. Such a cute little place. Reminds me of road trips with the family and pulling over in the middle of nowhere to get something to eat. The walls are covered with John Wayne photos. One wall had Rat Pack pictures. There was Sinatra music playing in the background, loved that. I had what is probably the best country fried steak I've ever had, very crispy on the outside and super tender inside. I love that you get your own carafe of coffee for the table. My only complaint is that instead of a jar of sugar on the table they have the individual packets and the brand they use has a funny taste to it. Found this little gem, had mixed reviews but the photos of the food convinced me to have our party of four to eat there. We were sat quickly, and immediately our drink order was taken.
