We enjoyed happy hour here and can't wait to come back and try more food and drinks next time. The coconut drink was a great rec from our server and really balanced (the perfect amount of sweet, creamy and sour). We tried the filet nachos which were delicious (loved the flavors in the chili), filling, and part of the $2 off for appetizers if you dine at the bar during happy hour. The inside of the bar area is a bit dark with mood lighting and quirky animal busts, but is a great place to hang out with friends and catch the game in the bar area. Came with my girl last night. It was my first time and I enjoyed my experience here. My girl ordered her hottie toddie and I had the Santa helper stout which was absolutely delish. I must say, I had a really nice experience dining at the Eldo. Parking on the other hand, that's a whole other story even if they have their own parking lot. It's just not enough. But fortunately, street parking was great. Let's go back to why I had a nice experience. As my husband and I entered, we noticed the bar section on our left. Eldo had a lot of great top shelf spirits. And if you look to your right, you'll notice a small section where you check in. We were fifteen minutes early to our reservation time so we went straight to the bar area and grabbed a seat. I would have sat there and waited for a table but a friendly server from the bar area walked over with a grand smile and greeted us. She asked if we knew what we'd like to drink and I told her to give us a minute. Then my hubby turned to me and said "why don't we just sit here instead." Hey, I love sitting in the bar section. It's faster service. So we got everything all sorted out and she returned to asked me if I k ow what I'd like to drink. Gin! I responded. And she said that she'll go asked the bartender For some recommendations. That poor soul, she walked back and forth three times over my gin drink. And she still had a friendly smile. I had ordered a chicken parmigiana and my husband had the lamb curry. Wow! His lamb curry was phenomenal. I don't each much curry and I definitely do not eat lamb. But this curry with this lamb was exceptional. My chicken parm was nice but I needed more marinara sauce. Excellent service from wait staff Renee. We were seated immediately without a reservation. We were there shortly after they opened at 4pm on a Friday. Happy Hour prices for draft beers, house wines and well drinks. Drinks were stiff. Appetizers reduced too but we opted for entrees. I had Barbecue Chicken salad and my husband had filet mignon with mushrooms. His steak was done perfectly and quite tender/tasty. Sides were hot. Seasonal veggies a bit underdone. My salad was huge, fresh and tasty. Too much to finish. We treated ourselves to split the Malva butter cake I had read about. OMG was it good! Very generous portion (more than enough for us to share). Was served warm with whipped cream and big scoop of vanilla ice cream. Visiting family the week after dining opened up and although once we got our food it was terrible slow service. Although we were able to get 4 rounds of drinks in the 90 minutes it took to get our dinners. Family I was with explained this was totally out of the norm so I would say, give it a shot because food and atmosphere are good. We just moved to the area and The Eldo is walking distance from our place. We are so happy it is! the selection of food is something we are not used to. We travel often and South African food with European nods is fantastic to have near by. We had the Durban Curry and Fish n' chips and were wildly satisfied with the delivery. We are picky when it comes to foreign dishes and both cook at home (with one of us being English and cooking curries often and spending time in India). We were wildly happy with the authentic flavors and variety. We are looking forward to trying the rest of the menu! The ambience is fantastic. It can be different each visit. We live down the street and we've only gone here 2x till this evening! What were we thinking? A friend who just moved nearby (she's South African), met up with me. I asked her to look at the menu for this place and right away she said "this place is legit." It's served warm so I'm typing fast before my husband eats more than his half. I think the thrill is gone. First, we came at 4:30, the majority of the tables were empty. They said that all the tables were reserved? So, we had to sit outside. I'm not a fan of outdoor dining. It was really hot out on the patio. By the time my food came I felt too nausea to eat from the heat. The sun was also completely blinding. Last time I got the filet for thr third time and it was not cooked well enough in the center. I ordered medium well. It was bloody in the center even butterflied. Today, I got chicken tenders. They were very dry and overdone. I dont know what happened to the great servers either. Ours was brand new and switched tables mid service. Probably a drink & done establishment as opposed to a good old fashioned restaurant. We're not drinkers so it wasn't for us. Kelsey was great. Attentive, polite, really on those drink refils, and bubbly personality. Food: the steak was seasoned to perfection, and i love that they didn't overcook the veggies, but I will say my steak was definetly more in the medium- medium well range than the well done I had ordered (see photo). This is still not a deal breaker for us though as the service was so great that we will definetly be back soon and will specifically request Kelsey. We have been dining here for years but our recent experience merits some fixing on the part of the Eldo. I made a reservation for the patio bc my mother is almost deaf and inside is very noisy so I asked for a table outside on Open Table. The request didn't carry over to the restaurant's reservation system. This really isn't the Eldo's fault but annoying none the less. The service began good but I wanted more butter for my potato (which was cold and actually all of our bakers were like warm at best) and didn't see our server for a while. When we did see her the potato was too cold to melt butter. The ribeye's were phenomenal as always and my husband pork chop was tasty as ever. The salads were served with the meal and in a tiny cup. Usually the salads come before the meal and in a manageable bowl. The coup de grace was when we got the bill. The subtotal was off by $18 and change in the Eldo's favor. We called the restaurant and questioned this. It was explained that since we upgraded to the baked potatoes that is where the charge came from although it was not itemized on the bill. In closing, we are hoping that this was just a fluke and not the new normal. read more

We've been regular visitors to the Eldo for many years, but recently, we've noticed an increasing number of empty tables in the restaurant each time we come. The hostess often directs us to the bar, which typically has limited seating--mostly standing room or just a few chairs. On one occasion, a worker washing glasses behind the bar told us he was sent to monitor us because a hostess was upset about our inquiry regarding the empty tables. This worker then called over the bouncer, who explained that the kitchen couldn't handle more tables. If that's the case, why are so many tables set up if they aren't going to be used? It creates a misleading impression. Additionally, we were asked to leave by the worker washing glasses, though the bouncer claimed we weren't being asked to leave. After 22 years in the Army as an 18B SF with 14 deployments, I've never needed oversight like this. We wish the Eldo all the best in the future, but for now, we will not be returning or recommending the establishment. read more
