We haven't been here in over three years and with the new menu and ownership, they have really brought their game. We had breakfast which was Wagyu chicken fried steak hashbrowns toast and eggs. The seasoning on the chicken fried steak was exactly correct with the right amount of pepper with the right amount of breading - crunchy and not too crunchy and the chicken fried steak was tender. Sunny side up eggs were done to perfection. It's one of those items that you can easily screw up by burning the underside or not having it cooked enough. We met another couple here for dinner and drinks on a Saturday night. I had read they have live music on the weekends so I was looking forward to it. On this particular night there was no live music. We were seated immediately, near the entrance. I watched server after server take and deliver drink orders before anyone approached our table. I could have been on my second drink by the time i ordered the first one. Lack of beverage is a pet peeve for me so I was getting annoyed. I found out from the hostess there had been some confusion about which server was assigned to the table. We ended up with the sweetest server, eager to resolve the lack of beverage problem and she excelled from there! I've read the menu is a lot smaller than it use to be. It was my first visit so I don't remember the old menu but it feels carefully chosen and is a thoughtfully organized menu. Our four ordered the fish entree, two chicken fried steaks and a burger. I did not have a bite of the fish but the person eating it said it was very good. The chicken fried steak is humongous, order the to go box when you order the entree. I'm not sure I can describe the perfection with mere words but moist, tender, flavorful and crispy... it has all that! The burger was amazing, cooked as ordered... think juicy melt in your mouth beef. Who needs dessert after that? Certainly, not me! But if you thought I was walking away from an apple pie skillet with ice cream... well that's never going to happen! Now listen, there's apple pie and usually they are a dime a dozen. I rarely find a pie better than my own but something about that being in cast iron just called my name. It arrived at the table and my mouth started watering, the crust is slightly doughy, the apple filling is just heavenly... a little caramelized and crispy from hitting the skillet. And the ice cream, served cold on the side... oh my! I'll be sneaking over here for an apple pie lunch very soon! Yeah, it started rough... there's a little room for improvement in organizing the staff. The food more than makes up for it! Finally tried this place out and we were really happy with how things went. The restaurant itself has a really cool vibe; it's casual enough to wear a hat and t-shirt but nice enough for date night. There's a good sized outdoor area where they have live music. We split the chips and queso, which was very good. I had an old fashioned to drink, and it was one of the better ones I've had this far north of Dallas. My wife had the pizza, which is a smaller personal sized pie and was amazing. We have visited 2 times in the last weeks and have yet to be disappointed. First, the staff are faithfully adhering to Covid requirements! A+. Although we haven't actually got to the food yet, the drinks are top shelf. Bartender is extremely knowledgeable and the smoked old fashioned and Manhattan properly served with craft ice are second to none! Was super excited to try this place for the first time but overall, it was pretty disappointing. After placing our order, our waitress never came back to the table. I had to ask the food runner for some ranch and he never brought it. We had to get up from the table and ask our waitress to get it. (She was standing around talking to her coworkers most of the time) On top of that, because she never came and checked on us, our waters never got refilled. The last time our waitress came to the table, was for her to bring us the bill. We ordered the garlic knots and onion rings as appetizers. And the chicken fried steak and chicken sandwich for our entrees. The best things were the appetizers. The chicken fried steak was okay, but nothing amazing and the chicken sandwich was SO disappointing. The chicken breast for the sandwich was extremely thin and small. For $5, I can get a WAY better chicken sandwich at Chick-fil-A compared to the $12 I spent here. I seriously wish I would have taken a picture. Im giving them 1 star for the appetizers and the appeal of the place. If we ever go back, it would be to listen to live music and maybe get some appetizers to snack on. Came here on a busy Saturday night..those poor waitresses. Let me touch on the good things first: The atmosphere was amazing. The live music was such a nice touch and played some good songs. The drink was reasonable strong! Cute outdoor area that we sat in. Now for the not so great :( When we sat down it took about 20 min for a waitress to come and get my drink order. Then a different waitress about 20 minutes after dropped off my drink, didn't say anything to us. We had menus in front of us and we're ready to order. No kidding, 45 minutes go by and no one comes to our table at all. I know it was such a busy night...but what if we wanted food? Some people sat down next to us and left because they didn't get served. With drinks empty we waited another 20 minutes, on top of the 45 (so we're talking an hour and 40 minutes for 1 drink) to ask for the check but no one came by yet again. We had no idea how much we owed so we just left the only cash we had ($10 for the 1 drink i had) and ended up just leaving. It's a great atmosphere...they just need more staff! read more

Food and service were great, but a $1.49 "processing fee" was added as a line item to my check of approximately $50. I asked why the charge was there, and the waitress said she could get the charge removed. I accepted the removal of the charge and planned on using my debit card but paid cash instead since the charge was removed. I later researched that the Durbin Amendment of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, enacted in 2010, prohibits surcharging for debit cards, including prepaid cards, to protect consumers from hidden fees. The Gin can charge surcharges for credit cards, but cash, prepaid cards and debit cards aren't allowed. Further, when a vendor assesses an illegitimate surcharge, Visa/MC want to know about it via their "Merchant Violation" form, which I filled out. Ultimately the surcharge won't break anyone, but the charges aren't lawful for cash, prepaid cards or debit cards. As a whole, I prefer for vendors to wrap their costs of doing business into their prices and not with surcharges. read more

Whew! We were hot, tired and sweaty when we cycled into downtown to have a lunch break here. Although it was after 2pm the place was busy - a good sign. We were warmly greeted and while we were looking over the menu a staff member brought us two big cups of ice water! (We hadn't asked) We can not eat too much volume of food when cycling because it can trigger cramps or stomach aches so we split a delicious tuna salad sandwich and a side of fried okra. It was a risk eating the fried food but man! That okra was fresh and yummy! We vowed to return when we can enjoy more of their great food and friendly service. read more

Really great food! Really love this place- it gets a bit crazy on a Saturday Morning breakfast times (I WISH! It was open on Sunday!) and in the evenings it gets a bit busy. The staff at the bar is great! The skillet queso is MUST have, and their blueberry sausage is auhhh mazing! I came back for breakfast by accident and was sorely disappointed. The sweet tea was not very sweet. More of a half and half. The cinnamon roll French toast is SUPER sweet. The hash browns were dry, but the eggs and sausage were fine. The Texas brownie cake was not good. The frosting on top and the consistency of the brownie cake was just off. It wasn't sweet or bitter. Biggest disappointment was that they don't do their homemade chips even though it was past 11. They wait until all breakfast orders are done before they start frying things. This was our second visit here. The first visit we sat and the bar and the service was excellent. I have not been to a restaurant that was such well staffed since before COVID. Everyone was very friendly and on top of it too. The sandwiches were standard bar food, but the hot Cheetos elote and the service made up for it. We will definitely be back. read more
