While in area running some errands, I stumbled upon the Great Grill. After scanning over the menu , I decided to keep it simple and ordered a grilled double cheese sandwich with fries. I was happy with the meal. The grilled cheese wasn't overly buttery/oily and had the perfect amount of cheddar and Swiss cheese. The fries were solid and had a flavorful seasoning, not overly salty. I hadn't been here for years since I don't work in the area anymore, but once they re-opened last week for sidewalk dining we wanted to support somebody local so we dropped by on Saturday. Weather was great and the tables outside, while limited, had plenty of room so you didn't feel cramped in a corner or crushed by people walking by, so that set up worked out fine. My kids went here excited to see the place after a beach trip. It was my daughter's and niece's birthday. They had read somewhere that party's that have more than 5 people would get an 18% gratuity added to their bill. When it was time to pay my daughter had thought that the gratuity was added, she added an extra $5 tip. The lady had come over and told them that the $5 tip wasn't enough and they should add another $20 to it so basically $25. My daughter tried explaining to her that she thought it was added and was gonna have her another $5 on top of that. PEOPLE TIPS ARE EARNED!!! Our family has worked in the restaurant business so we know how all that works. You shouldn't be forcing someone to tip you like I said tips are earned. There were only 3 other booths occupied the afternoon I ate here, but I couldn't get decent service or even basic condiments (salsa) for my breakfast burrito without going to the kitchen and chasing down the waiter/owner who clearly couldn't be bothered to provide even minimal service. There was a cold, almost hostile vibe to this supposedly "classic diner" which guarantees I won't be returning. Cheap strip mall vibe in Burbank Shopping Hell district. Street parking is awful; don't bother searching for a spot. There are some great classic diners in the area - with parking lots - especially along the Victory/Olive corridor in Burbank, but this ain't one. Go west over the 5 Fwy if you're looking for a great breakfast, friendly service and a classic diner experience. MEH. read more

I did not sit in to dine, we are in the middle of a pandemic so all I did was pick up, can't really say much about the indoor dining so my feedback is just on the food. This was not to be (i will write about THAT joint soon) The Great Grill here on San Fernando in Burbank (as opposed to the other GG's) is as a dragged-out, primped-up 50's Diner. This is neither here nor there in that it is the food that is the main thing but a little frou-frou never hurts if it is done well. And it is, here. And they seemed to have spent a good amount of money to make it look like a throwback to "Happy Days" fame. After my bad experience at Smashed Burger i walked past this joint and decided to check it out. I was major jonesing for a good Burger. By the way it was about 9-ish am and the GG was open for Breakfast and Lunch and dinner. I glommed onto the Burger with fries, mouth agape, drool collecting as i perused the music on the juke box: J. Giles Band, A-HA, Cream, Pat Benatar? Yes: signs were good for a good burger. So: i ordered a Burger Basket with fries. I was not asked how i want my burger or fries cooked so i was a bit turned off by that. But hoped for the best. When the Burger and fries arrived they looked delicious: The burger came with a nicely cooked and seasoned beef patty: thin, cooked well and approx 1/3 lb. The White bread Bun was well grilled and buttered The iceberg lettuce freshly shredded as well as the tomato slices Pickles and chopped Onions likewise fresh and slightly salted The sauce was 1000 island-ish and tasted as if it were made in house. On first bite i knew that the whole was going to be a big fat old fashioned burger: neither smashed nor containing fancy condiments. This burger told a different story. And that story is of what used to be and more to the point what used to be good: fresh, clean, tasty, well prepped, well seasoned burger w/o the fancy schmancy stuff we have of late become accustomed. This is Good Stuff!! The fries were crispy, well done and salted while hot. I feel like you can always judge an establishment based off their wings. This place has a great vibe really cute decor. Right in the middle of downtown Burbank. Sam is number one. He is welcoming and friendly. I ordered the buffalo wings with fries and a drink! I am extremely picky about my wings. The wings were so good I think I may have finished them in less than 5 mins. The fries were fresh and perfect!! My daughter, ordered the spaghetti and garlic bread. She is much more picky of an eater than I am. However, she ate her spaghetti so fast she had the red sauce all over her face. It was a pretty big serving and she was not able to finish but did a good number on it. I really hate to leave a 1-Star Review, but the food here was absolutely terrible. Service was friendly, but slow. The music was nice, but oftentimes not playing at all. The milkshakes were good, but overall this was a very poor experience.
