So bummed this didn't work out. I forgave lateness, being erased off the schedule, leaving rags and cleaners in the home, inconsistent work from week to week, changing teams (even after I discussed with the manager that I was only interested in a consistent team as the cleaning quality varies from team to team and I wanted to have communicated where things are in my home to my cleaners.) To their credit, all the cleaning groups were very honest in taht my personal items were never damages or disturbed. The problem is the office, the attitude and the organization. The last straw was after I called to put myself back on the schedule the previous month, they scheduled a team that was new and they could not find my condo office to pickup my key. But because they called me to ask where the condo was, I know approximately when they began and because they called me again a bit later because they didn't understand how to lock my door when leaving, I know approximately when they left. Yet my invoice reflected an unaccounted for 30 additional minutes. When I emailed the office they told me that they forgot to adjust their time because they got lost finding the condo office and took 15 minutes off. But they claim that their team called before they were done cleaning to ask about locking the door as they knew they would not understand how to operate it in advance. I call BS. And furthermore, even if it was not BS, this happened because a different team unfamiliar with my home was working in my home again. A few times previous to this, trash was left in the center of my kitchen because they didn't know where the dumpsters were. And any special requests and omissions to cleaning simply cannot be honored. And finally every time I have contacted the office they are very defensive with their responses in lieu of being solution oriented. I mentioned that I was to have the same team when asking about the strange bill described above. The bill was addressed with excuses and a slight adjustment but the fact that an unfamiliar team was again scheduled in my home was simply ignored. I am simply done. I really wanted it to work out. I would not recommend The Green Mop. Update in response to owners accusation that all negative reviews here are by complainers because only complainers post.: If you look you will notice I have posted 2 reviews that are negative. The vast majority of which are extremely positive (21). I work in a customer oriented business and cannot express to you how important client management is to customer satisfaction. He states that he has over 1200 customers who are all happy but can't be bothered to comment. It is a shame his business is only able to inspire negative reviews from scorned clients. A customer oriented business does not insult past clients and accuse them of wanting to ruin the business "for no reason"(See response to Reggie G.). We were pretty excited about The Green Mop, that didn't last long. We made an appointment for 2 pm (which was confirmed) and my lovely boyfriend even stayed home to let them in. At 2:15 when they still hadn't arrived, we called, the owner said they guys were late and wouldn't arrive until 5. They never told us about the "2 hour window policy" and even so, this is 3 hours late (not 2.) After we balked, he said he "would do us the favor" of sending the guys at 3... They didn't come until 4 pm - that's 2 hours late. Basically we were given the run around; they DID NOT keep us updated about what their actual arrival time would be and the only reason we found out was from calling them and asking where they were every hour. There were excuses - GPS system malfunction being one of them (I live in central DC in a very easy place to find.) Also they are more expensive than most cleaners ($80 per hour). This is definitely on the high side of cleaners in DC, even "green" cleaners. My small one bedroom apartment cost $150 to clean. That said, they did a good job and the people who cleaned were very nice. I have gotten comparable cleaning jobs in DC for cheaper from businesses that actually show up on time. I am not sure what cleaning services have a 4-8 hour window, I have never heard anything like that except for cable/utilities companies. Anyways, my poor boyfriend had to wait at home all afternoon for them and they didn't offer us anything but an apology, which, all in all is not worth all of the wasted time - seriously, we're paying for this service, it's just unprofessional. I understand that nobody can be exactly on time everytime, but don't abuse your "2 hour window" policy. This is a business and they made a terrible first impression. You can get an idea of what kind of business it is by the way the owner responded defensively to my posting as opposed to just making it right when it happened. (Update regarding owner's comment below: Do you really want to work with a business that calls their clients ignorant and abusive? I have written over 350 Yelp reviews with the vast majority of them being 5 stars. I have since started using Eco-Harmony for my cleaning, they charge significantly less and are amazing. Update on update: He removed the part about me being abusive and ignorant, which I guess he figured is bad for business. I purchased a groupon for The Green Mop cleaning service for $35 for 750 square foot house, which seemed very cheap. I was able to schedule the cleaning with no problem, email communication was great. However, upon arrival to my unit the staff did not take the time to ask me if I had any areas that needed special attention. This wasn't a big deal since they went right to work immediately. The two women that arrived did an average job but I was expecting a wow factor since my apartment was clean to begin with. I requested that the two ladies clean my oven which she did a poor job on. I noticed that they did not mop the floors, only spraying a solution and wiping them with the towel. I could compare it to a swiffer. After the ladies finished I gave them the groupon. After they left, I noticed that the stove was not clean, I called The Green Mop backed and let them know of this. The two ladies came back to my apartment with an attitude stating that they cleaned the oven alright . I stated that it was not clean so they went back to work on it. After another 3 minutes of cleaning, the ladies called their manager and told her they couldn't clean the stove but we try again. The manager asked to speak to me and said they can't clean it. This left me very disappointed as the oven was not that dirty to begin with and they just didn't want to spend much time on it. When they got ready to leave, the two ladies stood at my door for a minutes and demanded a tip, I gave it to them. Overall, they only refreshed the apartment there was no deep cleaning enough. The carpet needed to be vaccummed again and they didn't shampoo it. I had to clean the oven myself. I will not use them again. Would not recommend for deep cleaning. 6/10/11 Today, I received a bill for cleaning the oven which they did not do and I was billed for time when they were not there. I first used the Green Mop a few weeks ago, shortly after we moved into our house. I was so satisfied with that experience that I also asked them to do a move-out cleaning of the old condo. I am now having them visit the house every other week. I did not have any coupon or special. The first cleaning was very expensive because the crew spent well over two hours at the house, which is still a construction zone. But after they left, we could actually walk around barefoot in our house for the first time! Today, they visited the house for the second time and the cleaning was much, much cheaper. This is because they did a deep clean the first time and now it is more a matter of touching up. (Even though construction dust seems to be the gift that keeps on giving.) The company is very responsive via email, even on the weekends. We had some specific instructions for our floor, which I only provided at the start of the first visit. I forgot to remind them today but it turns out there was no need -- they remembered. I've had experiences with another cleaning company that never put back any of the furniture in the right place, which was annoying. They were also somewhat careless with our stuff. The Green Mop is not like that; they are meticulous and your house and belongings will look exactly the same when they leave -- except it all sparkles! If you are a pet owner ... we have a cat and a dog and the cleaning crew is very kind to them, even though I fully admit that they can get annoying sometimes. The most important thing is: don't be scared off if the first visit is more expensive than you had in mind for spending on cleaning service -- you will not be spending as much the next time. In fact, our second visit was less than half the price of the first. I recommend these guys! read more

Their rates are reasonable, they are always there when they say they will be, they are not fake greens, but rather use all green products, including some great homemade products. I like this group. Very trustworthy, very very flexible. Always easy to get in touch with over email, very responsive, nice green cleaning products. My only concern is Id say the service quality ranges from week to week, from "very good"--everything on the list is done, and your home is super clean; --to "exceptional" where all the nice little extras are also done--blankets, towels folded 'just so' etc. and your home will feel like a 5 star hotel. The only problem is you're not sure which it will be from week to week. It's certainly never a bad job, but I think there are a few on the team who go the extra mile. Overall, a good, local, responsive, green, thorough, trustworthy cleaning service. I definitely recommend. Not perfect--once in a blue moon there's a scheduling or a billing mix up, but they get the important stuff right and politely handle any errors. my guess is they just need to hire more administrative staff. read more

I've read most of these reviews, and have been very amused. Obviously each person's idea of clean is different, the same with the word dirty. I found Green Mops emails to be polite and professional, and those who got really upset were the ones who wrote the nasty emails on line to complain. I've never had a cleaning service that was perfect, and I even speak enough Spanish to communicate with those who speak it. Frankly, if you want your house cleaned the way YOU want it, clean it yourself! Otherwise, accept the fact that you will never be satisfied, and that no one is perfect. Especially when you pay them practically nothing to do work that you either can't do or do not want to do. Would YOU want to clean someone else's house of their dirt? I've actually done it myself in college to pay for my car. But I was such a fanatic, that they loved me! I would love to be able to clean my own house again, but I can't. I can't even work in my garden anymore. So I learn to be satisfied with what I get, and if more work needs to be done, I just make sure I'm"m there to see to it. Or maybe I should offer a business myself, hire good workers and charge more money so they feel they are actually earning something for their hard work. I bet you no one would go for that! read more

I used them for a while and they did ok work. Then I came home one day and there were items missing from my home. When I shared this with Tony, he let me know that his staff have no use for these items and that, when they have received these kinds of calls before, the item usually turns up in the home at a later date. These items were valued at close to $300 and never turned up. There are clearly a number of very happy customers with them. So, if you like, give them a try. Just be sure to keep a close eye on your possessions and hope they don't take anything - you'll never get a customer-focused response. Update 4/18/11: Tony, once again, you have taken this a little too far. You have put yourself on several websites that allow the posting of positive and negative experiences by current and former customers. When people share experiences you don't like, you lash out. Let's talk slander. Typically for slander to be considered viable, the statements made have to be false. In this case, they are not. I'll be happy to share that with the police when they show up at my door! Slander works both ways. You have called your customers and potential customers here morons, ignorant, and now mentally ill. Not only does this create potential legal liability for you (especially if you post personally identifiable information such as addresses), but it is also considered inappropriate and unprofessional. A more appropriate response to my rating might have been: "We are committed to quality work for our customers in a way that demonstrates high integrity. While we do not show a record of servicing this client, we sincerely apologize for any confusion and invite her to contact us directly so that we can make this right." Suffice it to say that if you choose to use Green Mop and things don't go well, the responses you see here on Yelp are what you can expect. read more

A two-person team from The Green Mop came today to clean my apartment. They were clearly ready to work. They cut no corners and worked very, very hard. Four hours later, I had zero dust, a clean kitchen and bathroom, a living room floor that was spotless, and more. They prioritized well, were organized, knew what to do and zeroed right in on what was needed. I gave no direction. I trusted them to do their jobs, and they did them very professionally and well. I asked them to let me know before they vacuumed, as my pets are afraid of machines. They did, and my pets were very comfortable around them. This spoke volumes to me. The team had such great attitudes. It really mattered to me that they were nice. Special note: this cleaning task was very tough. There had been a tragic and longterm illness in the family, resulting in some longstanding need for cleaning, and there was some time sensitivity. The fact that The Green Mop was flexible and reliable mattered. I can't speak highly enough for the whole experience, from first contact on the phone with Christian to saying goodbye from the doorway of a clean home. read more

Used them only once. The cleaned about 75 percent of my house very nicely for $200 (4 bedrooms, 2 baths), however, they did not touch the kitchen floor. I have teenagers so the kitchen floors gets heavy traffic. The stains that were there when I left had not been touched when I got home. For $200 I expected the floor to at least have been damp mopped. Called to complain but they offered no explanation. They did offer to come clean it again in a few days, but I had house guests arriving that night -- the whole reason for hiring cleaners in the first place. To top it all off, I received an additional bill from them saying that I owed $120 on top of the $200 I had already paid. Finally just paid it. Will not use them again -- lesson learned. read more

Please check my photos. Scam artists who bait and switch and will charge you more than their quote and won't do a thorough job. I scheduled cleaning online. It said for a 2 hour clean and 2 hour carpet clean the charge would be $205. Towards "the end" of the clean a representative called and informed me hat the cost would be $285 for my small 2 bed 2 bath apartment as they had sent out 3 people instead of the 2 and it had only taken an hour. I explained hat I didn't ask for he second person and since it only took an hour they shouldn't charge me for 2 hours of carpet cleaning. She didn't budge so I said I would pay over the phone with a credit card. At which time she told me there would be a 3.5% extra charge for using a credit card. As I was on the phone I walked through I found several stains on the carpet, that the tubs and rub surrounds hasn't been cleaned, that the kitchen counters nor the half shelf around the kitchen hadn't been cleaned. Several surfaces in both baths hadn't been cleaned and the three layer shelving unit hadn't even been touched. When I brought this up to their representative she said that in order to clean what they had been paid to clean that they would have to charge me for another hour of work and it would delay their schedule so there would be an up charge. I've just scheduled my 3rd cleaning with Green Mop, The first 2 were splendid. The ladies arrived on time and completed the cleaning of 3 bathrooms, 5 bedrooms, and 2 staircases 1/5 of the time it would have taken me. My wife felt the result of their cleaning solutions were above her expectations. The price was competitive with the majority of other cleaning services in DC Metro. When I called to schedule our 3rd cleaning, the receptionist was delightful and treated me as if she knew me. That's the experience I expect as a repeat customer. Our information was accurate in their database. I appreciate that the various notes I left for past teams remained in the database, so its not necessary for me to repeat myself. I expect the 3rd job to be as professional as the first two. I expect to continue using Green Mop for the foreseeable future. read more

Fatima and Carolina cleaned our house, worked really hard and were really thorough. I would recommend Green Mop to anyone who is looking for a detailed house clean. They provide their own supplies and are all natural, my house has that nice clean, pure smell when I get home. I found the team easy to communicate with, although it helped that I knew a few words of Spanish. I have no problems recommending this service based upon the quality of work. Update: I am VERY disgusted at all the bad reviews from people that HAVE NOT used Green Mop Services! They are really petty coming on here and blowing their steam on totally awesome people, ESPECIALLY since YOU HAVE NOT used the service! Do NOT use this company. I wish I could give them 0 stars. We had our place touched up (swap bedding, clean bathroom, take out trash, etc) before guests stayed at our place. They showed up 4+ hours late. They did not follow instructions (didn't change duvet cover or follow instructions on how to get into our building) and on top of that, they ruined one of our rugs after they spilled chemicals on it. Very unprofessional and would not take responsibility for their mistakes after we contacted them. Stay FAR away from this company! read more

This was my first experience, in March: Three weeks ago, I moved from Woodley Park to Dupont. I was tired of packing boxes and didn't want to clean my old place, so I called Green Mop. They came and scrubbed the old place cleaner than I'd ever had it. They were late because they came from another job (that's why I only gave 4 stars, but really they're a 4.5), but they did such a good job that I didn't care after I saw the work! I can't wait for them to come back and clean my new place! Recently they came back to clean my new place, and while the cleaning was great, the run-around I got about my invoice and the honesty of the workers was not. The 3 cleaners were an hour and a half late because 1 person on the team didn't show. That was ok, but later on, they tried to bill me for a 3 person crew because one of the workers said it had been 3 people. This was despite me sending them an email conversation between a manager and me confirming that there had only been 2 people there! read more

The staff are very nice and professional. We are happy with the way they clean and appreciate their flexibility. We can ask them to give something special attention or to skip an area. The strength of this business lies in their ability to communicate. I have been using Green Mop services for 18 months about once every 6 weeks or so. My husband and I are keen to support a locally owned business that uses a green philosophy and Green Mop fit the bill. The convenience of being able to book online via email is fantastic. The staff is super responsive and they literally can ALWAYS fit me in for a cleaning, even with 24 hours notice. Once you request a cleaning, you get a prompt email confirmation and usually an "arrival window" so you know when to expect the team. Typically, I am at work and leave them a key outside which they'll happily leave inside upon exiting and flip the lock on the doorknob to lock up. The cleaning is thorough for the cost -- we pay a little more than $100 per cleaning for a two BR/2/BA/3 story town home. My three favorite parts of the cleaning are: the spotless kitchen sink, the polished bathroom fixtures and the well-mopped hardwood floor. They fold the towels and the toilet paper 'hotel style' and vacuum all the pet hair off the couch. As they leave, they collect and remove all the trash which is a really nice touch. We've even left some pots and pans out and have come home to find them -- and sometimes our coffee maker -- hand-washed and drying on the counter top which exceeded our expectations. Green Mop has exemplary customer service. A few months ago I had what I'll honestly call a bad cleaning. After a year of good service, this surprised me. There was dust on the tops of picture frames and light fixtures, the floor was visibly unclean and they hadn't moved anything like trash cans or counter top items to clean underneath. I got in touch with Tony right away and he sent the team out for a re-clean of the offending items (as is their standard policy). The re clean was sufficient but around the same time I had a friend tell me their Green Mop cleaning was not top-notch anymore with their increased volume of clients so I joined the ranks of those of you who gave them bad reviews on here and decided to move on. I was dumbfounded at how difficult it was to find another service that was as responsive and as flexible with their schedule. So, I emailed Tony, candidly explained my situation and asked for another cleaning to "restore my faith." He explained that each client has different expectations and he asked me for a detailed list of my cleaning tasks in advance to ensure it could be translated for every member of the team. I was thrilled with the results and my relationship with the Green Mop will continue for the forseeable future. If they can keep up the responsiveness and flexible scheduling, the thorough cleaning and meet my expectations (which I'll be sure to communicate) -- I see no reason to give them anything less than five stars. read more

I have had these cleaners come a few times and, they did a decent job. I am disabled and cannot clean the place myself. Yesterday three very sweet cleaning people came. I had a plastic shopping bag with a paper Pharmacy bag with four prescription bottles inside. This went missing during this time, and I had to file a police report or the pharmacy cannot replace them. These things happen. I told the reporting officer I didn't know if they had accidentally threw it out or put it somewhere odd or took it because all I knew is the bag was on the kitchen table and then gone. The worst part about this was dealing with Cristian - a manager of some kind - who instead of apologizing or reassuring they would help figure it out, or showing compassion towards a disabled customer helplessly looking for life-saving medicine, Cristian became increasingly defensive, patronizing, and acted as though he was the victim when I was the one out of much needed medication to handle a serious autoimmune condition. He had very little sympathy towards a concerned customer with serious health issues, seeking answers. He claimed they were closed and that's why they couldn't help me, but a nice person named Andira was replying to me consistently during the weekend. Cristian was not concerned with helping me or showing concern that his employees may have misplaced or taken, even accidentally trashed the meds. He just kept asserting they were blameless with irrational arguments since they had been the only ones in the house. Cristian had no interest in making it right or apologizing. All the cleaners are nice, and this situation could have been a mistake handled with professionalism and friendly cooperation instead of alienating and making excuses to a sick and frightened customer seeking help. Update: the two nice women who came here to clean when the medication went missing came to help look for it. Nothing was to be found, as I expected since we already searched everywhere. They were very sweet and kind and I consider this ordeal an accident. I have no ill will towards them and enjoy when they come. However, I hope to never interact with the manager Cristian again as he has little value in customer service or compassion for a sick and disabled customer. The other staff are friendly, helpful, and lovely. This accident and incident with the medication is the first problem I have had, so I will continue to use the service. read more

They were late .... They made me pay 40$ travel fee and for 3 hours was only there for 2 hours and didn't even clean that great ..... Didn't dust fans off or clean light covers in the bathroom .... Customer service was shitty when I emailed and asked why they charge me for 3 hours leave after 2 and house not that clean ... They vacuum and straighten up but don't clean that well . I've been a client of The Green Mop for years. I prefer to work with a reputable company that carries insurance and demonstrates that they take care of their employees rather than me hiring an individual. I don't want the responsibility of nor do I feel comfortable having household "staff". I also don't want to be emotionally involved. I just want a clean house! The Green Mop trains their employees to be professional, efficient, and Green Mop implements standards and quality controls. Their staff is hard-working, polite, and really thorough. We are dealing with serious dust allergies and The Green Mop has environmental products (mostly recipes they concoct) to clean our home. The Green Mop has helped us control allergy problems and-- especially during a pandemic when we are home all the time-- it is a relief to have their services available and know that management is handling the burden of incorporating safety precautions. read more
