We have been coming to the grove for years and have always had a great dinner! Last night we went again to celebrate 29 years of marriage. 1st table we sat at was absolutely freezing cold, had to move to another table. We ordered the calamari for appetizer, came to us cold and isn't the original recipe. My wife ordered the 10 Oz filet, meat was great but the Oscar sauce was the consistency of pudding very disappointing. Also she ordered the scallops which came cold and almost the same seasoning as shake and bake horrible!! My bone in Ribeye was great but ordered the lobster mac it had 2 little pieces of lobster in it!! Staff was great and we did have fun but restaurant has gone severely down hill since last year!! My partner and I were staying at the Willows Spa for the weekend so we made a reservation to eat here on a Saturday night. We arrived a few minutes before our scheduled time and were seated instantly with menus. Wait staff gave us the option of still or sparkling water before our waiter stopped by to take our drink order which is made at the bar outside of the restaurant. The food was great and cooked to perfection. We were actually really impressed with all the dishes - filet mignon, the beef tenderloin salad, lobster mac&cheese, and asparagus. We were given a tasting at the start of the meal and a palate cleanser before the food arrived - both were tasty and a nice touch. Oh, and the fresh bread and butter at the start of the meal was superb! The honey orange butter was delicious!! Service was a bit on the slower side, but incredibly friendly. Drinks took a while to come out as well, but was due to the bar being packed since they need to be made outside of the restaurant itself. We would definitely return for another meal when we're back at Viejas! It was a nice, romantic meal with lots of great options on the menu. read more

I can't say anything about the food but the initial service we received was awful. Walked up to the host desk at around 8:15-8:30 pm and asked about a table for four people. I was polite to the initial woman who was helping until the woman beside her (who I presume was the supervisor) interjected herself into our conversation and said there was nothing open, I assumed she meant right that second and asked about a waitlist till she snapped at me and said they're completely full and there is no waitlist. My mother wanting to clarify asked again and the woman again snapped but this time at my mother again saying there is no waitlist so we left and ate at a nice Italian restaurant with much better service. read more

Easily one of the best steakhouses in the Alpine CA. The Grove Steakhouse exceeded all expectations. First, I had to try the chambord drink which was magnificent Hubby ordered Ribeye steak with roasted green are parsnip, pure potatoes was a culinary masterpiece, unlike anything I've ever had before. The flavors and the way it was cooked were simply outstanding. And don't get me started on the seabass with quinoa top roasted botchy with curry sauce; it's an absolute must-try, a heavenly combination of flavors that left me craving for more.But it's not just about the food. The service here was truly amazing. The staff were attentive, knowledgeable, and made sure we had a memorable dining experience. Their attention to detail and commitment to customer satisfaction were impressive.The ambiance at The Grove Steakhouse is another highlight. This our third time here.... and the first time Felix was AMAZING!!!!! So we booked for dinner for another night in our three night stay. The second time we thought would be equally as amazing. But it wasn't!!!! The server (Jessica) was horrible. She was worried about every table but ours. So we complained.... that was with Micheal the food manager. We had a credit of $200 from July 2020. Didn't know they expire. Came for our third time last night 3/31/21. There was no food credit for us. Strike one, no worries we can pay. Then we got our second bad waitress named Tina. We did not want to order a appetizer we wanted dinner. So Tina seemed upset that we ordered right away. We also wanted wine, but couldn't get Tina to come back to our table. Familiar story to the last experience here. Another server gave us our wine. Then Tina comes back finally to open it.... From then on service sucked. Won't be back. read more

If you plan on going to The Grove Steakhouse at Viejas to celebrate any occasion or maybe just 4th of July drinks & dinner, note that our server, Taylor, told us she could only serve 1 drink every half an hour, and by the way, we were NOT intoxicated! There was also a table nearby with a full bottle of wine...hummm. Also, if you choose to add blackened salmon to your Cesar salad don't...it was like pouring salt in my mouth. The manager waived the cost of the salmon, but we did not ask him to do so. If it is simply something we don't care for, we pay for what we order, and won't order it again, but this salmon was terrible. Very sad service from Taylor. If you want really good service, it's so much better at the Bull & Bourbon at Sycuan! Bartenders and staff are on top of it over there! read more

Always a fantastic experience....mainly due to the staff! I usually sit at the bar with Kendall and she takes such great care of me and all guests. She remembers my drink order and will always make dinner suggestions when I just can't decide. Upon entering we were greeted by Rafael who has exceptional guest service. Roberto took us to our table and offered us the menu. Felix our waiter greeted us with a small size strawberry with cream in top. It was delicious. We ordered crab cakes (not pictured) but they were delicious. Do yourself a favor and ask for a lobster, (not stuffed) it was delicious, moist and eye appealing. My husband order the ribeye, he loved it! Love this Steakhouse. Over the weekend, my boyfriend and I were celebrating our 10 year anniversary. Booked a reservation through OpenTable in advance which I recommend because due to COVID there is limited seating. Staff is always so kind and attentive here. Everything I've ever had has been amazing! My boyfriend loves the oysters, he gets it everytime we come here. It's served with caviar on top. My favorite dishes are the lobster bisque, so creamy with pieces of lobster. Mmm.. the crab cakes, the lamb chops and polenta, petit filet cooked medium well, and the king crab legs. We have been dining at this restaurant since the beginning before it was moved into the buffet dining room area. When it was in the first room the experience was much better. Our most recent evening was horrible. The food was good but the service couldn't have been worse. Our server was Taylor. She started out telling us that service was slow. It turned out to be exactly that. We waited for too long between her visits to our table. I asked the gentleman who refilled our water glasses if we could get another round of drinks. After a while the manager came by to explain that Taylor was busy with a large party and that he would put in a drink order. He never returned. The next time Taylor came to the table she said she would bring our drinks. This is already a very bad start but we could live with this. The problem became worse because all the other parties around us were seated after us and yet they were served their dinners. I eventually needed to go to the bar to get drinks. It is not acceptable to spend so much on dinner and need to go to the bar for drinks. Finally our dinners were served but by this time we had no time for dessert and we were celebrating a birthday. We were going to the concert and needed to hurry at this point. We realized that a second bottle of wine was put on our bill. Generally we don't feel the need to review our bill but beware if you go here they will try and pad the bill. In summary I was not happy and asked to speak with the manager. After explaining our dissatisfaction with the meal he thanked us and walked away. So generous of him. We have previously been very happy here. Wow! We were so impressed with this place. Excellent dinner. My mom took me here for my birthday and she also brought a friend who had really, really helped her out so she wanted to treat her, so it was a "special" dinner. And boy was it ever. The food, service, atmosphere, all excellent. I love the decor in the restaurant, it was so peaceful feeling and beautiful. I had the filet mignon oscar style, my mom and her friend got the braised beef short ribs. We also got the wedge and a the lobster bisque. Excellent! They also served us a lovely amuse bouche and a palate cleanser which was a nice surprise. Loved it. Would come again for sure. I am giving a 3 this time. I came for the stuffed lobster. Mind you its price is MP. The first time I had it was a delicious dish. The shell was split, the tale well prepare and there was also rice made with exquisite taste and pieces of lobster all withing the lobster shell. This time, they gave me a split shell, with the meat inside, yellow and funny tasting (I swear) it tasted like my hair die. There was nothing else stuffed there. The dish was close to $150. There was a burnt lemon on its side, and a split entire lobster tasting to ammonia. What sort of condiment was that? The rest of the food was excellent. My advise, call the chef that used to do this stuffed lobster 10 years ago. Ask how it is done. read more

We've always enjoyed eating at The Grove Steakhouse and this time was no different. The service here was very accommodating and they make you feel so special. We started off with a wedge salad which we split. The presentation was fantastic and flavor was great, but the lettuce portion size was just a touch on the small side. Maybe they ran out of iceberg lettuce? I'm not sure. The breads always come out hot and fresh. They had three different types of spreads including rosemary and salted butters and hummus, with three different types of breads (brioche with poppy seeds, mini french baguette and grain roll). For our main entree we both ordered the short ribs. Sadly, the short ribs were inedible, as they were tough and chewy. Short ribs should be tender and melt in your mouth. We sent the short ribs back and we split a delicious and tender 10oz filet that was cooked to a perfect med-rare. We also had some tasty Brussel sprouts. Crunchy and delicious. The staff was kind enough to to give us a few desserts for our troubles. We both had the creme brûlée and it was amazing. The staff here was so accommodating with top notch service. We always enjoy dining at The Grove. Hoping they get the short ribs figured out and we'll be back to try them again down the road. read more

I always enjoy coming here. The service is excellent and the staff are all friendly which helps make a great dining experience. We had a reservation and were seated in a comfortable booth. We decided to split the wedge salad to start. It was very small even for a split, but it was delicious. I wish it was larger. It came with a nice basket of warm bread and I loved the brioche and they were kind to bring us more. This time I ordered the short ribs. Unfortunately, they were tough like shoe leather and they should be tender and fall apart. I loved the mushroom gravy it came with, so they took back the meat but left us the gravy and we had it with the filet instead. The filet was delicious, tender, well seasoned and cooked perfectly to medium rare. We also shared the brussel sprouts. They were a bit too peppery for me and I would not get again. We were offered a dessert for our troubles and I happily got the cream brûlée and enjoyed every bite. If you look at my pics, you can see pics of other menu items I've had in the past. We absolutely love The Grove. We have been here about a dozen times now and it never disappoints. The service is always excellent! The food is remarkable too! The steaks are always the best cuts and cooked to perfection. The side dishes are always delicious and enough for 2-4 to share (just ask the server). I love that they always bring out a little appetizer bite at the beginning of the meal with delicious fresh, hot bread. Then a sorbet of some sort to cleans the pallet before the meal. After the meal they serve a truffle of some sort. We always order wine and if you get a bottle they will decant it for you if you'd like (which I love). The Grove Steakhouse is the upscale, fancy-schmancy restaurant located inside of Viejas Casino. Becky and I went in for two reasons. Lobster Bisque for us and oysters for me. We were a no-reservation walk-in, but they had a table for two ready so we were seated immediately. Our server greeted us and since we knew what we wanted we placed our order. Two Lobster Bisques, one order of oysters and two pints of 805. He left and returned shortly with bread and butter for the table. It took a while for our beers to arrive, but other than that service was good. The bread was fantastic! We each received two different types and they were equally good. I asked for more to have with the bisque. It took a few minutes because the bread had not yet come out of the oven. Nice and fresh. Crunchy exterior, soft and warm inside. The lobster bisque was delicious. Velvety and smooth. We agreed that it wasn't the best we've had, that distinction belongs to World Famous in Pacific Beach. It was very good though. The oysters were excellent, but then how can you go wrong with oysters? They were plump and briny with no sand. Although delicious, $18 for six seemed a bit spendy. Probably would pass next time. Please note that you cannot remove any food from the restaurant. It all must be consumed on site. If you are staying at the hotel they will send leftovers to your room, but you cannot take them yourself. You can always sneak in a container in your wife's purse and smuggle your leftovers out (wink, wink). As stated The Grove is a fancy-pants restaurant so it has fancy-pants prices. Two bisques, one order of oysters, two beers was $58 before tax and tip. For a special occasion I might entertain the idea of returning to The Grove. read more

Working my way to try every steak shop in San Diego. Bread comes with 3 different spreads which include butter and hummus.  I missed what the third one was.  My bread platter included 3 different types of bread.  The two I had were nice and warm when it arrived at the table. Ordered the porter house medium rare with 3 side sauces along with a baked potato.   My server brought out all the different sauces they offer which was unexpected.  The steak is hood enough not to need the sauces.  They were all pretty good. Started off with an order of  oysters on the half shell.  It was good but disappointed by the size of them.  Smaller then what I get when I order at other high end dining establishments.   Sure get a lot of condiments with it. Enjoyed a cambria syriah with dinner which was good.  They have a nice bottle selection of wines.  Usually order a cocktail but no cocktail list offered and did not enquire so decided to enjoy a wine. Offered a tasting of a cumber with some topping I missed but it was good.  A scoop of sorbet was given after oyster to clean the palate. I ordered a cream brulee which was very good.  What was different was the whip cream and fruit were served on the side.  Along with my aperitif, I was given chocolate like an after dinner mint.  It was good but by then I was pretty much full.
