I would love to give it 5 stars but the service lacked. It took forever to get waited on and then when we said we would order dinner after we got our apps, she was no where to be found. We got there right before opening also because when you call, they didn't have an opening until ate but clearly there was room. Beautiful, white and very clean, bright. Booths make it nice to have some privacy but they are close to each other. The food was great. The steak melts in your mouth. Large twice baked potatoes, well they split and they made 2. The brussels were awesome but a bit sweet. The wedge was smaller than usual. Creamy ranch. The octopus I had to send back, it was too chewy not soft and easy to chew like it should be. Inside the Viejas Resort, really amazing steak house. Service was on point, our server Joseph was excellent and very professional. Wine prices are really reasonable, had a nice '15 French Sauv Blanc and really enjoyed that. Rib eye steak was OUT OF THIS WORLD! Tender, cooked perfectly, just all around an absolutely delicious piece of meat. Crab legs we're also fantastic, good portion too. We had a side of lobster Mac, our only comment was it really needed some more lobster pieces in it, but otherwise was delicious. We were seated and the sever who came over was less than excited to be working. She talked over the guy who was giving us waters and she was curt and just going through the motions. We went to celebrate our 50th anniversary. Nice ambience. Service was very slow, and pretty inattentive. People at another table who arrived after we did, received bread first. Wait time for each course, including the amuse bouche was terribly long. The Caesar salad was not fresh---the lettuce was wilted and limp, and it had an overload pf croutons. We think maybe they put all the croutons to make up for the lettuce that was not crisp. We both ordered the Bison Ribeye, which turned out to be a big mistake. It was chewy, stringy , and tasteless. We asked to take the leftover meat. (We figured our dog might like it.) and it was whisked away to be boxed. (the only thing to be done quickly!) So they did give us a complimentary dessert, but that was 30 minutes after they cleared away our plates. We love the various types of Game meat they serve. Every time we go. The waitresses serve samples of desserts and items to cleanse the mouth. This was not the case this time. We also were not checked on. We never got a drink refill. Not asked if we wanted anything to drink. My wife and I drank water. No you might ask. Why didnt you say what you wanted at the beginning, or wave the waitress down. We did know what we wanted to drink at first, and it should not be our responsibility to save a waitress down. This review was pretty difficult for me to rate because it's really close between 3 and 4 stars , but because I thought about the culinary mistakes I went with 3 over 4 . However, reading over the reviews after I dined here , right away I read people rave about the dishes I found flawed . So it really goes to show food is very subjective . I ordered the petit filet mignon lobster mac & cheese, creamed spinach , shrimp cocktail and Caesar salad. I ordered my steak rare and it was cooked to perfection . I just wish it was better seasoned . I was really looking forward to the lobster Mac n cheese . It looked gorgeous with big pieces of lobster , but I was very disappointed that the chef made the Mac n cheese with a velveta or some kind of American cheese . Oh I did not like that cheap cheese taste at all . But if you read the reviews people go on and On about how great the lobster mac n cheese here is . I also thought the creamed spinach was kinda cheap tasting . I swear they put the same cheese in that too . But my God it was gorgeous as well . Highly recommend the shrimp cocktail . It had 5 jumbo and delicious shrimp . Also gorgeous . The reason I almost gave 4 stars is because I love the decor of the Grove steakhouse . It's quirky , modern and so fresh and so clean clean . Gosh darn it. How can I not review such a great steakhouse here at Viejas Casino. Been coming here for years and I love the attention to detail that the servers provide. This last time around our servers name was Toni. She was absolutely great and when Tupac was trying to crack jokes about the pronunciation of a dish, she did a slight smile as she knew it was funny but had to keep herself well mannered. Food: I've had a handful of dishes here but my go to is the Rib Eye Steak and the Pork Belly dish. My dining friends in crime love the lobster mac n cheese. :) Overall, this is a nice steakhouse with service being good. Every time we come they offer complimentary tasters to clean your palette. The Grove Steakhouse is located in the Viejas Casino, but it is well-insulated from the gaming floor. Service is leisurely, as it is with most high-end steakhouses. There is quite a bit of variety, ranging from several different cuts of beef (obviously), but also includes pork, lamb, bison, chicken, fish, and shellfish. Dishes are well-seasoned, so if you avoid sodium, tell them when you order to go easy on the salt. Also, it helps to tell your server if you have a particular temperature/doneness for your steak or chop; I've had issues with my Kurobuta double-cut pork Chop over cooked to the point that it was hard and dry. But the good thing is that the chef will re-fire your entree if it is not cooked to your liking. On this night, I had the aforementioned Kurobuta double-cut Pork Chop, which comes with a green pea risotto and Brussels sprouts. The dish was cooked to perfection; the interior was slightly pink, and very juicy and tender. Most entrees don't come with sides, but the pork chops did, and they paired perfectly with the sweet glaze on the chop. I also had the Caprese Salad, consisting of yellow heirloom tomatoes, mozzarella, arugula, with a balsamic vinaigrette. Very flavorful, but the tomatoes were out of season, and were a little too soft and mealy with less flavor than I would have liked. I don't come here often, but I shall return. read more

My first review of 2015...and away we go! Impeccable service and fantastic food...wow! And even on New Year's Eve when you would naturally expect chaos amongst the wait staff and in the kitchen due to to the excessive restaurant crowd. The key is to make reservations...sounds simple right? The people behind us decided not to and had to wait an hour and half to be seated so be mindful of that. Saul was our server that evening and with it being our first visit there, made my party and I feel very welcome. We started off with a basket featuring an assortment of freshly baked bread and breadsticks...perfect on a chilly night. Then we tried a bowl of their French Onion soup which had very sweet onions, tasty broth and gruyere topped slice of bread. Co-habby and I decided to split the 32 oz. bone-in rib eye which was cooked perfectly and full of flavor. Saul suggested that he could have the chef cook our steak right in between medium and medium-well...very nice! The steaks was tender and maybe a touch chewy but overall, delicious. The lobster mac-n-cheese was the highlight for me as I am a bit of a mac-n-cheese fanatic and even more so with delicious chunks of lobster embedded in this dish. Goodness, so good! The grilled asparagus and sweet creamed corn were additional sides we ordered and they fit the bill as well. In between the dishes, they served each of us a smoked salmon mousse on crostini and an apple cider sorbet to cleanse the palette before our entrees arrived. What an elegant touch to add to a beautifully plated and decadent meal. We will most certainly return. Don't forget your Viejas playing card for an additional 20% off of your meal. Bonus! Fantastic experience! It was worth spending the extra bucks for quality food and no waiting in that long line for the buffet. We were really impressed...not at all expecting it to be good for Viejas. Let's be honest, Viejas aint no Vegas here. We first asked to see the menu and it wasn't bad! About $32 for a filet mignon, not too bad, something like that in SD would cost about $28. We took our chances and really glad we did. Our server was excellent. Great service! The food was amazing! We started off with the beef carpaccio and it was really good. Parmesan with some bitter greens over thinly slices of beef carpaccio and some sauce drizzled on it. I got the ribeye, my BF got the filet mignon, and it was perfectly cooked! We love the seasoning on it, it was a lot better than a lot of fancy expensive steak houses in SD. It was also so juicy, great mini salad with it, and the grilled tomato was so good. The peppercorn sauce was just okay, but you didn't need it because the steak had so much flavor! We'll be coming here again for the steaks and good service. Had another bad meal at the Grove. Ordered large filet medium. Came very rare "bleu". Sent it back. Came back charred burnt rare. I did not eat it. Had crackers in my room later. My daughter ordered scallops, they were under cooked with no charring. She ate it. Spent the whole night in the bathroom. The lamb was undercooked also. The wedge salad was soked in dressing. The bread & crab cakes was the only edible food. I let my executive host know about my experience. She recommended talking to the VP of food & beverage Tony C. After talking to him he was more concerned how i got his direct line than my experience. He said he'll check into it. No call back. It's a shame what management has done to this fine restaurant. Had the opportunity to treat my husband for dinner here to celebrate his birthday. I made reservations on a Friday via open table a few hours prior to arriving. We were seated a few moments after checking in with the hostess in front of the restaurant. Everything was spectacular! The dining area, decor, service and food were fabulous! My husband ordered the cap rib eye and I had the petite filet mignon; and we shared the lobster mac & cheese. Although my steak looked tiny on the plate, it was perfectly cooked and delicious, and satisfied my appetite. Our server was wonderful - she was sarcastic & funny, but she also made our first dining experience at The Grove Steakhouse a truly exceptional one and left us wanting to come back to try other dishes. We went to the Grove Steakhouse to celebrate our Anniversary on Saturday, Feb 17th,2024. We got reservations at 8:30 pm. We have been to the old Grove Steakhouse many times and it was fabulous, we loved the service, the atmosphere, and the food was always amazing! We were looking forward to the same experience but were very disappointed. The new place is bright and loud more like a diner than a Steakhouse. Our server seemed very overwhelmed and lacked finesse. We ordered a bottle of wine and the Octopuss appetizer. The wine was great, but when the Octopuss came it was burned. Not just overdone but burned. It was inedible. We decided to share a meal because it was so late in the evening. We ordered the lamb chops which are my favorite. Lambchops are usually served medium rare, which is perfect for us. After sending back the appetizer we were really hungry. The lamb chops came to our table an hour and 10 minutes after being seated and they were raw and ice cold. When I say raw they were red, not pink. If we had eaten them we would have been sick. They apologized of course, but this was our Anniversary dinner. They brought us a nice complimentary dessert and it was delicious. I was really looking forward to the opening of the New Grove Steakhouse, and I am very sad they fell so terribly short. I hope they figure out the kinks but sadly we won't be back. The pictures on the website are of the Old Grove, not the new one. It will be missed. Giving it two stars is a stretch. read more

First time here! Absolutely delicious! Had a 5pm reservation, hostess seated us right on time. Toni our waitress took care of us right away. Toni was friendly and did an amazing job taking good care of us. The rest of the team did the same with making sure we had enough water and plates were removed as we finished courses. Main course was 1/2 order of Alaskan King crab legs with sides of lobster mac and cheese and poblano corn. I made a reservation and got seated right away, our server Felix was knowledgeable and genuinely sweet. I ordered a frozen strawberry margarita, which was the best margarita I've ever had! I should have ordered two for myself. Then, they gave us warm bread with three types of butter (one was original) the butters were creative and tasty. Our server also served us a mini sample of salmon topped with caviar. Before our entrees came they gave us a palate cleanser, which surprisingly work. For our entrees my boyfriend and I order the 14 ounce NY strip and the 10 ounce filet mignon, the meat was seasoned and cooked perfectly. We also ordered a baked potato which was filled with cheese and bacon with butter and sour cream on the side and grilled asparagus topped with cheese and lemon. Lastly, we got dessert, which is a chocolate lovers dream cause it's chocolate on chocolate on chocolate. To finish off everything, our server gave us a little chocolate truffle. Being in customer service myself for over 30 years, tried to address this with the manager first as to not post a review. Poor service, sub par food and $200.00 later for two meals. Seafood tower looked amazing, very fishy and could hardly eat. My son's steak, tough. Our waitress was very rarely seen or concerned. When I asked for the check, big delay as she'd lost my casino card which amounted to zero anyway. A half hour wait for a check for a cruddy meal, cruddy service and manager that told me to ask for a specific employee should I come back? A partial refund would be nice and some much needed customer service training appears to be in order. We all need employment, I understand this. To be treated as no one gave a rip or a flip, sucked.
