I was impressed with everything about The Hilltop, but the main dining room noise and lack of parking. I was thankful that our group of four was placed on the patio, which has a door that can be shut. The main dining room and bar was LOUD! Aside from that, we had a wonderful time. The food was delicious. We ordered a Cali burger, Beef au jus sandwich, reuben, and chicken with wild rice. The food was served fresh and hot and had great flavor. I don't know what type of fries they serve (perhaps beer battered), but we all agreed that they were the best fries we've had. We all wanted more. We ended our meal with a couple of slices of carrot cake, which was moist and delicious with a light, airy frosting that complemented the dessert well. We were seated next to a fireplace and found the ambiance wonderful. Our server, Kerry, was amazing. So friendly, kind, and smiling without being overpowering or demanding. Coworker discovered this jewel of a restaurant. First time here tonight and we will certainly be back! For starters we split the Burrata which was tasty. I had the Baked French Onion Soup (excellent) and Braised Short Rib with mashed potatoes and asparagus. So good, the braised short rib so tender. Coworker had Pan Fried Walleye and Pecan Pie a la mode. He said it was great (I had a taste of the pie and thumbs up!) Let's not forget the service - excellent! What a cute spot in Edina! We stopped in for brunch & I got the Salmon Benedict made with two poached eggs, salmon, tomatoes, asparagus, & hollandaise on an English muffin. Comes with a side of hash browns. The eggs were cooked perfect & the hash browns were nice & crispy on top! So good! Definitely can't wait to return to try some more of the menu! Finding a place to park in the Hilltop's limited parking lot is a challenge, especially at lunch or dinner time. Expect to hunt for a spot on an adjecent street. The place was busy for lunch. I'm told that's because of the large senior population in proximity to the restaurant as well as the lack of competition. If you go to The Hilltop during warm weather ask to be seated in the open patio. It's a lovely room and the service is just as efficient as in the indoor diningroom. Our wait person for a recent lunch was knowledgeable, efficient and courteous. One of our party eats here often and recommended the French Dip, which was served on a tasteless white roll with carmelized onions. The juice was loaded with chopped onion. Dipping the roll with beef into the juice just made everything wet. The small portion of french fries were rather greasy. Not impressed. read more

My wife and I eat here regularly and every time we are very pleased with our meals. But, just the other day I had an experience I need to share with you that COULD have wrecked our love of this place, but ended up deepening our love of The Hilltop and it's staff. So my wife and I decided we'd split a bacon and mushroom omelet. Four bites in to my omelet I found a nasty hair from a beard. Now... normally I would have been so grossed out, but it was on the edge of my plate (not in the food) and the food tasted so good... I continued to eat. (I know my wife was grossed out, too... but it was on the EDGE of my plate) When we were done the table busser came over and I pointed out the hair. He immediately apologized, got our server who immediately apologized and removed the plate. She came right back to our table and informed us that there was no charge for anything. THEY COMPED OUR ENTIRE BILL! Then the manager came over and apologized as we were about the leave the table. THIS is quality service. And I am HAPPY to report we will be back as soon as we can get there. We love the Hilltop because they cook great food, have great service, and stand behind everything they prepare. I got the chicken caesar wrap with veggies, which ended up being a rather bland salad. The wrap had very little to it - basically just chicken, a lot of lettuce, and very little to no cheese. The wrap tasted basically like the side salad I received, which was disappointing. In terms of COVID, the space is fairly large so there's room to spread out. The environment was extremely comfy and warm. Staff were friendly from the open of the door. Seems like a great place to watch a game and or have a big gathering. Seems like the management built a family oriented culture and the customers can feel it (as least I did) Food seemed to be okay, now my chicken wings had uncertain things going on but that isn't the cooks/staff's fault. When I bit into the chicken, it was cooked all the way through but as you can see in my photographs, I was met with questionable blood red meat. Again, I can't blame the establishment entirely because how could one know it looked like that inside the chicken wing unless they bit into themselves (thank God they didn't) I have to return to see if I have a similar experience. It was just the two of us that went in around 1:30pm on a Sunday, and only had about a five minute wait. I have a feeling the rush had just left. They serve a decent $6 Bloody Mary on Saturday's and Sunday's until 3pm. The bloody was different tasting but alright. It was served with a beer, pickle and olive. Breakfast is served until 2pm so we had to get an order in fast, which we were able to. They're breakfast was tasty and how things should taste! Love this restaurant. One of favorite lunch date spots when the kids are in school. The French Onion soup is the absolute best I have had, the open faced Horsin Around is my favorite. This place is always packed so you know it has to be good! I hadn't been in since it switched from Eden Ave Grill; it looks great in there now. Really cool layout of leather booths around the bar, but we were seated in the sun porch which I LOVED! This winter has been long and dreary but having lunch on a sunny day in a warm atrium made me so happy! Definitely sit out there if you can. The 3 of us all ordered the fish tacos - I got mine with coleslaw, they got fries. You can't go wrong with either side! The fries are honestly some of the best I've ever had, and the coleslaw was also fantastic and pretty large for a regular side! In fact, the tacos were larger than other places too! They're also pretty messy (the fish was juicy so be prepared to drip a little) but their corn tortillas held up surprisingly well: None of my tacos ripped! Usually corn tortillas tear on me... They didn't skimp on the fish so there are big pieces of seasoned whitefish, fresh pico de gallo, slaw, cotija, and 2 side sauces: house made guacamole and a chipotle mayo.
