My husband and I went to Hilltop for dinner. They were very busy. The hostess was very friendly and we were seated quickly. Our table was near the bar which was a bit noisy but it didn't bother us. Once we ordered, our food came out quickly. I had the short rib ragu, which was the special. It was really good! They have a breakfast, lunch and dinner menu. Great service and food. Love this restaurant. One of favorite lunch date spots when the kids are in school. The French Onion soup is the absolute best I have had, the open faced Horsin Around is my favorite. My wife and I live about a mile from Eden Avenue Grill but have not been here in the 11 years we have lived in Edina. The day was perfect for a walk so we decided to try Eden Avenue Grill for the first time. We actually noticed they had outside seating for the first time in 10 years. When you walk into the joint, the first thing I noticed is that it was a little dark and there were about 80% elderly people. The owner was there though and he seemed like a good guy, and I think his boys were busing tables. He seemed like a real cool guy and it I was surprised to see the restaurant opened as a malt shop in 1977. Our waitress was a little goofy, she screwed up our bill by adding extra fries and stuff to it, they blamed it on a new cash register? Very odd and she was kind of slow. I ordered the Horsin' Around and it was amazing! Picture this.....An open face sandwich with lots of roast beef and a horse radish sauce under a layer of cheese and two strips of bacon on top. The fries were a little soggy, but they weren't bad at all, but I like my fries really crispy since I don't get them very often. I mean c'mon....How can you go wrong with this? It was sooooo good. My wife got the vegetable soup and a slice of corn bread and she loved them both. All in all, besides the bill screw up and the slow service, it was an awesome lunch. I never knew this place existed until recently - we visited on a Friday night with family. We had made a reservation ahead of time and were promptly seated, but there was definitely a line out the door for guests who I can only assume had not made a reservation ahead of time. Very cute decor - open space with reclaimed wood walls, large photo collages and twinkly lights around the bar area. The parking lot is a little bit difficult to get out of if you need to turn around, and fills up quickly - but there is also street parking. Kind of a new American fare vibe in general. A handful of classic mixed drinks - nothing too crazy, and a decent wine by the glass list with a few beers as well. The menu pretty much had a little bit of everything. We ordered the nachos to start, which honestly were not very good. They were served with melted American-like cheese on top. The carnitas were really fatty and the whole thing was unfortunately just not flavorful, which was disappointing. I tried the Bees Knees cocktail, which was definitely poured with a heavy hand - not complaining about a little extra goodness on a Friday night! The entrees were really good. I tried the shrimp dish with Brussels sprouts and creamy cauliflower and it was really tasty! Made me want to try pureeing cauliflower at home :) others in our group ordered the asian wrap, the horseradish encrusted salmon and a few other items that were all really delicious. We tried the carrot cake for dessert as we were celebrating a birthday, and it was your typical decadent cream-cheese frosted slice of goodness. The only reason for the 4 star is the service. Even though we made a reservation a week in advance, our table wasn't ready when we arrived - we had to grab more chairs ourselves and ask for extra silverware rolls instead of the staff bringing them for us. Our blonde-haired waitress was also clearly looking to get us served and out ASAP - she was not very friendly, although all of our orders were correct and came out in a timely fashion - I know from experience this is not always easy to accomplish for a party of 8. It just seemed like we were bothering her by being there. Other than that, we had a really nice time and this place is super cute with decent food. We originally came here for breakfast but since it was past 11 we were able to get lunch. After looking at other photos in Yelp I realized I didn't want to get the meal I originally thought i wanted. My friend and I both decided to get the Turkey Melt which has turkey, bacon, apples, cheese & cranberry sauce. She got the side salad which was top tier compared to the regular side salad you'd think would come with your order. I got the fries & dipped them in the ZAB'S hot sauce they have which was amazing. Highly recommend this for a lunch option that won't leave you feeling uncomfortably full. We also got the Espresso Martinis which has a chocolate drizzle which made it feel like an adult chocolate milk but still 7/10. read more

My date and I made reservations one day ahead for the Hilltop Saturday Evening Jan 7th. The only table they had for us was in the patio by the back door. It was cold and the rest of the patio was filled with a large loud Birthday? party. I was not happy with the table and went to the man seating people. He said that was all they had and blew me off. We have dined here for 11 years. Never treated this way. I went to the manager and she found a nice table near the bar. As usual the food was delicious. Service was wonderful. I apologized to the guy who seated us on the way out. He gave me a "who cares" look . Maybe he was having a bad night. We will continue to dine at the Hilltop. Love the place. read more

It was a very cold night so we decided to have dinner at the HIlltop - a local staple in Edina for many years. They've always had what we like - a great selection of local tap beers and wine, good food at a reasonable price. We were seated in the annex - a heated outdoor room at a table adjacent to the fireplace so we were cozy warm. Unfortunately, our waitress was careless and obnoxious, trying to upcharge everything. My wife ordered French Onion Soup that she dropped the bowl on the table so hard it splashed on the table while walking away saying nothing. I had the Reuben that was good and she had the Warren Burger - an open-faced Angus beef chuck, sautéed mushrooms, onion, sour cream, and cheddar cheese. She liked it as well. We will likely go back, but avoid being served by our waitress again. I wish I got her name. read more

Been meaning to try this place and keep forgetting about it. Went on a Sunday early afternoon for brunch. I'd have to describe this place as an diner/breakfast club comfort food place that is on a hilltop with trees all around. Lots of windows so there's plenty of natural lighting inside. Their menu has tons of options--something for everybody! We went for brunch but couldn't decide I'd we wanted to stick to brunch or order from the lunch menu! Learned that they have homemade cinnamon rolls that are to die for that 1) they only make on Sundays & 2) are usually sold out by 10am. Bummer. Had a couple of their bloody Mary's--they make there own mix. It was served with a couple of olives and a lemon and lime wedge. I liked it. Their house made mix wasn't too salty or too sweet or too watered down. Friend got the mimosa that is served fresh fresh squeezed oj. Both morning cocktails were great! We shared an order of the French toast--three long 3inch wide x 6inch long x 1inch thick slices of french toasted brioche bread served with whipped butter on the side and local MN Maple Syrup. I appreciate that they didn't put the syrup on in the kitchen to avoid the bread from getting soggy. Are some there and took the rest home. I ordered the hubris rancheros--my over medium eggs were cooked perfectly over black beans and salsa and corn tortillas. The dish came with has browns that were perfectly browned and crisp, but not soggy! The portion was ridiculously huge but plenty of food for sure. Friend had the 222 and was happy with her decision as well. Our waitress Cathy was a riot! She was hilarious, personable, attentive, gave great recommendations, and shared a few funny life stories with us. I was saddened to see 4 older edina women sitting next to us passive aggressively huffing and puffing about the service being slow while Cathy was helping us. Money can some Ines make people miserable! Noted some great happy hour and reverse happy hour deals on the menu as well. Wonderful breakfast, subpar lunch. I love coming here early enough in the morning to catch breakfast. The egg Benedict is so scrumptious! Do yourself a solid and order it, because you will not be disappointed. The decor here is so good! Nostalgic, yet modern. It is the most ideal version of a neighborhood breakfast spot! The service is excellent. Imagine having breakfast at your favorite aunts house, but if your favorite aunt has a huge beautiful dining room. DO NOT COME ON A WEEKEND MORNING. I was made to wait an hour for a table because two groups of old ladies had finished their breakfast, paid, and were playing cards for hours. The wait staff wouldn't ask them to leave, so two whole tables were unusable because these ladies weren't aware enough to realize they were causing a problem for both the restaurant and those who wanted to dine. The parking is horrible (and that's reason for 4 stars), but the 2 waitresses were amazing at serving the entire dining room without a Glitch. It was very impressive. The food is good . This place has always been a go to for my husband and me. But especially during Covid the take out option with curbside pickup has been a life saver. I have to give this 5 stars because of service & food together. This is the second time I will write about an actual employee but credit goes where credit is due. TLDR- exceptional service and great product? take my money all day. 1. Bartender- dont know his name- was there the second weekend of August on a saturday. He gets full credit for this. Came in by myself with a crossword puzzle and sat at the bar. Didnt rush my order, walked me through the items, what he personally liked, what he THOUGHT i would like (Dammmmmnn it was like...he knew me...) Kept my coffee cup, and water full. ***Here is where I was blown away. A lady came strolling up to the bar- and basically was shouting her order on her way in, clearly was a regular here, clearly knew what she wanted-they were friendly. Her husband and maybe grandson came and sat next to me. This kid- the cutest. Funny, happy, hungry, and has an extra chromosome. The Bartender LIT UP- literally you could tell he just loved this kid. Asked him how his meal was, how was his day, what he was excited about. Now I realize that I am praising the bartender for being a decent human being, but listen. He was engaging, he was kind to everyone around him, saying thank yous...he didnt put his head down and 'just do another saturday brunch'. He cares about his job and takes pride in how he treats others. hes a good egg. Food - I had the Shirred Eggs with Cream Cheese and Ham, american fries, toast and Bacon. The bacon didn't make the photo because...well..they disappeared okay? leave me alone. The eggs were great- I had never had them that way before, you could taste the butter which I think keeps that 'diner' nostalgia taste alive in an upscale casual environment. Lots of ham, julienne perfectly. I literally mean perfectly - they were perfect little cubes. You could tell they were putting out a product where they were NOT cutting corner. This place has completely transformed from the Eden Avenue Grill. The remodel is absolutely gorgeous. The restaurant has a fresh feel and is a well though out design. Sarah and I walked in and were greeted immediately by a very nice host - we elected to sit at the bar. The bartender was awesome! Well informed on the menu, cocktails, etc. A nice selection of beer, wine and cocktails is available. Sarah ordered the vegetable soup and the cornbread. The soup was good but the cornbread was better. The bartender noted it is a new recipe and they've had great feedback. I went for the tuna melt - it was awesome. Served on pumpernickel and topped with cheddar - a great blend of flavors. The fries are stock - I think they could definitely improve on those with a little effort. All in all, a great experience. Father's Day 2011 - Dad picked the spot, so how could I argue? My Yelpster friends warned me of the lack of Gen Y, X, and Boomers in this spot, so I was prepared to be surround by some wise old souls (tried to avoid using the word "geriatric" there). But I can roll with that...heck, in comparison, my sprightly Grandma looked youthful at 73 (hey, she still lifts weights at The Y -- it pays). I kept it basic with the Club House sandwich. Nothing particularly memorable - the turkey was lumped into the middle of the sandwich, so I had 3 or 4 bites of bread + tomato and no meat. Frustrating. The sweet potato fries were great, but they cost $4 extra (on top of the $9 sandwich), so what the what. The dipping sauce with the fries had a killer kick, so I used it for the sandwich, too, which nearly salvaged the affair. My uncle loved his open-faced sandwich, "Horsin' Around" (roast beef). Then again, the man loves to eat and is easy to please, so that may not be a great indicator of quality. Those who ordered salads were impressed with the portion size, but not blown away by the taste. We had brought our own cake to celebrate Father's Day and my birthday...and paid a nifty little plate charge for them to bring us 8 plates and a knife. I get it, but really? That dropped it from 3 stars to 2 stars. We had just racked up a bill of around $100, then you need to charge us a plate charge? Maybe that's par for the course in this area, but still lame. read more

Waited 30 minutes for my reserved reservation, which I scheduled 3 hours in advance. When I arrived, it was messy, cluttered, and disorganized. Upon waiting another 20 minutes for my server, I ordered, and after another 30 minutes, my cold food arrived. This was my first visit to Hilltop and definitely won't be my last! I went with a friend for breakfast today (Friday). We both had the short rib Benedict which came with the crispiest hash browns ever! It was absolutely delicious! The flavor was incredible and wonderful to the last bite! Nope...didn't take ANY home. I stopped eating because I was hungry about half way through yet continued on to finish because it tasted soooo good!. I had a decent Bloody Mary that came with a good size chaser. When I had finished the chaser (with still more Bloody Mary to drink), the server asked if I wanted a little more to finish up my drink. I have NEVER been offered that before. While I declined, it was a generous gesture. My friend had a Mimosa that was a very nice combo of more sparkling wine than OJ. While we were there, there was a steady stream of people coming and going. The seating is interesting and makes the most of the limited space available. They have a lovely three-season patio that we'll try out next time. The menu had numerous selections. We look forward to returning for dinner in the near future. Check this place out. Got the very veggie omelette and first it came out undercooked then when it came back out cooked it had one small piece of broccoli (the reason I wanted it in the first place) and mostly only onions and still a little runny. Longtime customer here. They changed the menu up and I am not loving it. Don't order the burrata (warm Brussels sprouts and cold cheese). My favorite dish has always been the grilled salmon with rice and a veg. Now it comes with farro in a bowl. Meh. The pan fried wallet also comes with farro instead of rice. I haven't tried anything else yet, but I'm not itching to go back. read more
