Best place to end a Friday night for decades now. A MB institution, my "go to" to meet up with old friends.

My experience last night was horrible! My server seemed overwhelmed to begin with. Took her a while to come and take the order. Once order was finally placed took about 15 minutes for food. I ordered a simple breakfast plate eggs/bacon/potatoes and a muffin. When the food came I immediately knew it was going to be a not so good taste just for the fact that the food looked dry and burnt! Sure enough everything tasted burnt and was a struggle to swallow due to the dryness. Waiter was sooo busy with all the other tables she never came back to even check on us and ask hows the food. I asked a random worker for bill and explained how food was horrible and she was like oh ok heres the bill and left. I get it your just a cashier but can you give better customer service. Clearly my plate looked the same as it was given to me. If I'm spending my money on something regardless of what it is I want it right and to enjoy it. Come on kettle don't serve a customer food you wouldnt even eat! As for the server if you have too much of a load on you, ask for a helping hand. read more

This place was so good! Great service and the food was really fresh. I got the Panko chicken salad and my friend got the crab cake Benedict and we loved both. Also not too expensive either! Definitely coming back for brunch again soon. read more

I found The Kettle because some friends asked me to meet them there for breakfast. I thoroughly enjoyed my breakfast. I ordered the Hangover Scramble and it was delish. Our waitress was prompt and very helpful. I didn't have to wait for a refill on my coffee. The only downside of the restaurant is the same downfall on all the restaurants in the area: Parking. The don't have a lot so you have too find a parking meter nearby and pay up. Nevertheless, I will definitely make a return to try another item from the breakfast menu soon. read more

The Kettle is my favorite spot in Manhattan Beach. The food is always great, staff is always friendly and professional. They truly are attentive and we never have to go searching for our server if we need something. I appreciate that it's open 24/7, because my best friend and I come unwind after we teach our classes in the evening. My only complaint is restroom tidiness, but other than that, it's our go to spot. read more

1st time there, order a grilled chicken salad and was disappointed. 18.00 and change for a small bowl of iceberg hull, no greens, no egg and the balled up chicken breast, that tasted more like it was boiled, clumped together, and the blue cheese dressing was apparently watered down. I think The Kettle is now my absolutely favorite place to eat ever!!!!!!! Came here on a Saturday night and there was about a 20-30 minute wait. We chose to sit inside and it definitely gave off a homey, comfy feel. It felt like an old school diner but with a cabin like feel! Everyone was super nice! Amanda was our server and she was great!! I asked about appetizers and she recommended the chicken strips..I know..sounds basic right? Well they were delicious!! And we got them with sweet potato fries. For the main course I ordered the meatloaf! Classic American staple and it was heavenly! Came with mashed potatoes and I switched the sautéed spinach for Brussels sprouts. It came with soup or salad so I got the kale Cesar salad and homemade muffin, I got the coffee cake muffin. The food tastes home cooked! I also loved the fact that they don't rush you. We were able to fully enjoy ourselves and felt extremely comfortable. We will be making this a regular spot! read more

We went down there to get our muffins for the weekend, like we always do, and decided to have a sweet treat while we were there and ordered the hot fudge brownie with blackberries added. Went for lunch, close enough to the beach to go for a walk after a full belly. Ordered: -Hot Spinach & Artichoke Dip (very very cheesay, good. Comes with pita bread) -Zucchini Parmesan (nothing special, just deep fried zucchini slices sprinkled with some parm cheese) -Garlic steak fries (I'm a sucker for any kind of fries. These were thick cut fat ars fries, delish. But by the time we were down to the plate, grease all over the plate. The few left were swimming in the puddle of grease :( But food portions were generous. Service was alright... kind of slow or forgetful (asked for water.. no water the first time. Went here w/ a group of new acquaintances that stop by occasionally. Overall, we were all delighted with our various soups, sandwiches, etc. One multi-decker sandwich was made with near-burnt toast, but the server offered not only a replacement -- which she took to go because she would have been eating while the rest of us were paying -- but also a cup of soup, which was quick & she could eat while we were all still eating. I had a surprisingly good pimento & crab melt, which I ordered mostly because I was intrigued. Buttery & crispy, nice. The sandwich came with a choice of sides & I chose the mixed greens, which came with chick peas & radishes, a nice surprise. It was crazy busy, but service was quick, accurate & pleasant. Loved it! Only have been before for dessert(which was excellent and big enough for two), but tonight we came for dinner. Ordered the French Quarter Burger medium well done with fries and it was fantastic! Service was great as well! As soon as we got there we were automatically seated in a booth and served our food maybe 10 minutes later! The fires were perfect, not greasy or salty and the burger literally melted in my mouth. I haven't left a review for any place in a really long time but today's service that I received at the Kettle definitely deserves one. I ordered from the large party menu for pickup and from day one, the customer service I received from Chemo was awesome. I've been to the Kettle before and loved both the food and service so it didn't surprise me they didn't disappoint. I ordered the panko breaded chicken tenders, red skin mash potatoes and apple cobbler. All which were tasty as expected. I was given huge containers of dipping sauces for the tenders as well as gravy for the mash. Chemo was willing to work with me on the order for the apple cobbler as well and let me order half of the normal large catering size, which worked perfectly. People were eating here like it was no big deal. But it was just wonderful. Great breakfast with a view. Best orange juice I've ever tasted. No wait, although it was on a weekday morning. We came here for dinner one summer evening after a long day at the beach. The restaurant sits right on the corner of two busy streets, and the patio wraps around two sides, so you can sit outdoors and people watch the hustle and bustle of the beachgoers -- definitely adds to the ambiance. Our food and service were both really good. My kids actually cleared their kid plates of mini corndogs and fries, which is very rare. My salmon sandwich was delicious and contained such a thick, hearty helping of salmon that I could only finish half. My boyfriend, on the other hand, was halfway through his meal (see full beach day above = starving tummy), before he realized that they didn't bring him what he asked for. Because it was half gone and we were enjoying everything so much, we didn't bother to complain, but I'm confident they would have been happy to correct the issue. All in all, we'll definitely be back when were in the neighborhood. read more

We were in search for food late at night. We had taken my niece around and time flew by. By the time we were all hungry for dinner, most places were closing. At the recommendation of another restaurant, we found this 24 hour "dinner". It is really an amazing place, it was packed at 10:30pm. We had to wait a bit to get a table. The portions are insanely huge. Most of us barely ate half of our orders. Food is good and the service is nice, and the availability of 24 hours, score. read more

Went in there in the wee hours of the night around 1 am and was promptly sat and given excellent service. I ordered the clam chowder which was rich and creamy and the perfect amount of salty. I'm only giving the stars for our server because he was working hard and it's not his fault the food was not great. My girlfriend and I got the cauliflower app (which are chalky I wouldn't recommend) and 2 main dishes which added up to $75 including tip which was insane. I am going to add that the portions were big but it dosnt matter when the food isn't great. We ended up taking the food home because my girlfriends chicken was pink. She ordered the chicken Parmesan and we thought maybe it was pink from the spaghetti sauce but when we cut it open it wasn't cooked all of the way. We are lucky that she didn't eat the whole thing before we went home and cooked it. We were just disappointed that we spent a lot and the least that could be done is checking that the chicken is cooked correctly. read more

Some love breakfast, some love dinner, but I like breakfast for dinner. I was impressed with the old fashion lamps outside that were roaring with fire. The kettle is a cute homey-like restaurant where plants hung above. It reminded me like a place that could be found back east. Items were overpriced but I had breakfast in mind. I ordered the french toast baguette with a glass of water. Boy, was it sweet and tasty. It tasted better than Ihop or Denny's. For dessert I ordered a slice of carrot cake. Hey, I can't pass up dessert! Also, it's open all day so you can have dinner for breakfast =) read more

Two and a half stars, somewhere between Meh and A-OK. I've lived in Redondo for more than 4 years and have not been inside The Kettle till yesterday, mainly because there's never a place to park. But yesterday, late afternoon, there were plenty of spaces in the metered garage behind the restaurant. Summer's drawing to a close and the thundering herds of beachgoers are finally going home.....we survived another hectic year, here at the coast, see y'all in the Spring, buh-bye. So there was a Yelp talk thread yesterday morning about corned beef hash, which resulted in my craving breakfast food the whole damn day. The Kettle serves breakfast any time. I saw no hash on the menu, so I ordered a couple fried eggs with sausage and an English muffin. Fruit was subbed for potatoes. First the good news: I am always concerned the egg yolks will be overcooked if the whites are cooked through, it takes the magic touch to get it right. My server promised the chef would get it right, and he did. The eggs were perfection. My server was perfection, as well. She told me The Kettle's been around for perhaps 40 years or so, and I must say that the interior was much nicer than I'd expected. And I like all the plants & flowers, very cozy, colorful, & attractive. He drank boiling coffee, and insisted veggies be served in hot hot water, so they would stay hot while we ate the meal. My grandmother would sometimes pour a bit of bubbling grease from the bottom of the pan the roast was cooked in, onto grandpa's slices of meat, to make it as hot as possible. And she would literally run with the food, from the kitchen to the dining room table. I loved to help her do that! What fun! I got to run with platters of food!! haha So. I learned to appreciate hot food, and breakfast especially sucks if it is served lukewarm or cold. As far as pork sausage at The Kettle, it tasted like chicken apple, which was fine. Except there was gristle in the sausage, not good. I did not enjoy it, kinda forced it down. The fruit.....tasteless. Honeydew melon had no taste whatsoever, even though the grocery stores are loaded with ripe, sweet melons at this time of year. So, all in all, this meal was a disappointment for $8.95 (before tax & tip). I can't imagine I'd go back a second time to The Kettle, after this experience. read more

So I guess an overall assessment is that this is like a dennys but with really good food and a little more cozy atmosphere. So I guess it's nothing like dennys ahahaha =D Open 24 hours, that is definitely a a hook. The menu is pretty diverse, although it is basically your typical diner fare. They do have very interesting twists to the typical dishes, which is what makes this place so cool. I love the Tuna Manhattan sandwich, especially with the giant mound of fresh cut avocado on it, and they also have a very delicious walnut turkey sandwich which I conveniently forgot the name of =( But for me, one of the most notable things here are their muffins. My favorite is the banana nut, and when they hit it real quick in the microwave and you melt on the whipped honey butter...wowowow!!!!! Super moist, super fresh, and super HUGE!!!! Sometimes they even run out, which is lame, but that means that they are freshly made, so timing is everything if you want one of these suckers. All of the pasta dishes are very well prepared from everything I have tried (which is almost all of them), and the lettuce cup appetizers are pretty awesome too. I got the flat iron steak once and that was quite good. Other stuff I've tried and liked: Chicken Piccata; Tuscan Chicken; Horseradish Crusted Salmon; Curried Chicken Wrap; Mushroom, jack, spinach, & onion omelet; pumpkin cheesecake; bread pudding with whiskey sauce My only problem when I come here is if I should have what I love or try something I haven't had before. And seriously, that is a big problem for me every single time I look at the menu. They even invite customization of whatever you order - very cool and something that most places frown upon. The atmosphere is diner-ish, but kind of dimly lit, so it is nice and cozy - not some blaring place that makes you feel like you are on a stage with spotlights on you. They have some outside patio areas too, those are nice especially in the summer.The waitresses are super friendly, and I've never been rushed to go away either, which is perfect if you just want to hang out and relax and chit chat. Parking is normally pretty drama free in the parking structure across the alley. Even if it is full, you can grab a space within a few minutes if you wait. This is a miracle in itself considering this is straight downtown Manhattan Beach! The pier is barely one block down the road if you want to stroll down there after, and there are tons of little shops adjacent if you want to look around. I'll never hesitate to come here if it is on the list of possible eat places. read more
