We gave them a try and were disappointed. We decided to split the duval breakfast. 3 eggs, fried chicken breast, waffle, toast and a side. We chose home fries and were very glad we did as they turned out to be the star of the breakfast. I ordered the eggs over medium as I won't order them over easy unless I know the cook knows his business. As it was I still got a small puddle of uncooked whites. The waffle was clearly pre-cooked as it came out cold. When we asked for butter it was ice cold individual pats which of course wouldn't melt onto the waffles. They should serve the waffles warm with whipped butter. We're not sure what kind of syrup it was but it wasn't maple. The chicken breast was lightly fried but had zero flavor. It needed at least salt and pepper in the breading. What ever they put on the home fries should be put into the chicken breading as the home fries were delicious. The decor was modern and relaxed. The bathrooms were clean and stocked. We'll give them a try for lunch or dinner but probably won't try breakfast again. The serving staff was cheerful and friendly. read more

We've been going to The Local ever since it opened. Constant staff turnover; inconsistent quality in the food and preparation; all grilled food has been tasting like gasoline for the last 8 months. We have written off going to The Local anymore, unless we want brunch. The one thing that still tastes good is the breakfast food. read more

Finally stopped into this restaurant after saying for over a year we needed to try it as it's very close by. We were excited to go and sit in the area out back as it was one of the nicest days in recent memory. We get there at 530 on Sunday and the back is closed off for a reserved party. So we sat inside in really uncomfortable metal chairs. Our app came, calamari, and it was overfried and way too salty. No big deal. Then our entrees came. I got Steak Frites and my husband got a bowl of the vegetable soup. What I received was the equivalent of two large Five Guys fries (volume I'm talking here) and a piece of steak thrown on top with some asparagus. The steak was just okay, but cooked as requested. The asparagus was fine. The fries, again...they tasted overfried. My husband's soup was "meh". My girls enjoyed their pastas (one kids with butter, one pesto pasta). I tasted my daughters carrot cake and was pretty disappointed in that as well. Once we got home both my husband and I felt sick. So that could be due to our age (late 40's) vs how much frying they did to their calamari and french fries I guess. The waitress was kind of flighty. She had to ask the kitchen both for the soup of the day and then for the pie of the day, then when bringing desserts did not bring utensils. Overall we didn't have a great experience, the food was pretty meh and the price was too much for "meh food". Also, not being able to sit outside, the one reason we went there, really was a disappointment, especially since it was really cold in the restaurant. I don't know if we just came at the wrong time and had too many negatives happen, but I'm in no hurry to give this place another try. Should have just gone up to the Metro Diner! read more

I would give The Local zero stars if that was an option. If you go into this location and there are more than 5 people in the place run away because your order will be wrong and it will take an hour for overpriced fast food. Staff constantly changes and the management could care less about the service or quality of food. read more

The customer service and food is very good along worth the Atmosphere and vibe that was amazing. I have came several occasions. The only couple things I can complain is the menu selection is kind of thin and takes longer than normal to get the food to the table. Other than that I will keep coming to this place. read more

I've been here six times now, breakfast and lunch equally. Each time, the food has always been great. The service though has been average. It's a great addition to our area, but don't compare it to metro. If you want metro style food, go to metro. If you want great gourmet sandos and salads, come here. The family and I had breakfast here the past weekend and it was a great experience. The atmosphere was open, modern, and clean. It has a very family friendly atmosphere, but was adult at the same time. The food was good. The highlights were the fried chicken breast with the breakfast chicken sandwich and the hash browns. The has browns are a must order. The coffee was fantastic. We did not take advantage of the barista options and has the brewed coffee, but the brewed coffee was way above the average diner's brew. I welcome this place. However, the menu needs to be updated or changed. This is the second time I ate here for dinner and choose the zucchini pasta. BOTH times the dish was stone cold. I did not bother to ask to cook it or reheat it this time. I was annoyed. AGAIN, I had to ask for parmesan cheese too. The other two dishes served to my friends was piping hot. This is my first and hopefully final negative review of anything, ever. I've been to The Local about 30 times because it is around the corner from my house. I've given them the benefit of the doubt more times than I can number because I want them to succeed. I loved the chicken sandwich and would go back often to get it for lunch. The staff, however, was always aloof and no one seemed to care about engaging the customer nor did there seem to be any mature adult / owner presence to make anyone feel welcome. After a dozen mediocre servers, 2 helpings of undercooked chicken nuggets, 7 overcooked nuggets / chicken sandwich, 8 burned buns and, the final straw, an incredibly rude staff member, I am officially done. The calamari, which I kept trying, was so salty, it was inedible. The zucchini pasta was cold the 2 times I ordered it and I had to send it back.. The server had no Idea if the shrimp were local, on which I made her check and they are not. Every person I ever ask has zero knowledge of any of the wine, nobody seems to care what goes out to the customer and it is run by a non-vested ever-changing untrained staff. Never an apology for undercooked chicken?!! Get it together! This could be a great place if the owners gave a damn and were present an actually properly trained and retained staff. Have some sort of pride in the restaurant. I've worked in and owned restaurants myself and realize the challenges with staff but this place needs some leadership. read more

I came here with my wife and daughter for dinner tonight. Inside the decor is rustic, warm and inviting. As we walked up to order, the staff was friendly and very helpful with ordering. My daughter had the chicken nuggets. They were fresh made to order and came with fries. She said they were the best she ever had. She would know that is all she orders when we go out.my wife had the Portobello Philly sandwich. It came with grilled onion, peppers and cheese. The fries have a crisp exterior and perfect on the inside. I have the Angus hamburger perfectly cooked to medium rare. It was juicy with great flavor and I would order this again. The have beer and wine. If you wants a great cup of coffee and dinner you don't have to leave. Their coffee is from a local rooster. They don't describe their dishes completely on the menu, so it's important to ask, especially if you are picky or have an allergy. I've been enjoying brunch for a few months now....love the Local Toast and fresh juices. I recently went in to check out Happy Hour and the new dinner menu. I was impressed...hard to beat a pint of local craft beer for $4 and half price appetizers for Happy Hour. We tried the Zucchini Fries and the Mushroom Crostini...both were awesome. For dinner the Lemon Caper Chicken was also delicious....fresh and a great value. Home-made Carrot Cake and a French Press Coffee to finish off the meal were perfect. The staff was friendly and paid just the right amount of attention to us. The Local will now be part of my regular rotation for dinner too....great to have a neighborhood restaurant so close that has solid options for every meal period. read more

We asked one waitress who was our server. She pointed to the woman who was taking orders from people at the cash register who had come in after we were sitting and waiting . It must be made there. The tomatoes were bright red and so flavorful. The French fries were not seasoned. Had been once before in February and was very pleased.....yesterday was the total opposite! I asked about salad dressing when my salad came and was told it was on already on it, NOT. I do not like much dressing on salads but this was absolutely dry! They did bring a side dressing which helped. My friend got the chicken sandwich and said it was "ok". Her potato cubes were overcooked. Our other friend got the "hot" beef sandwich which was cold and cheese not even melted, additionally, her sweet potato cubes were under cooked and were replaced when she complained. Not a good experience at all considering you walk up order, get your own drinks and sit on uncomfortable metal chairs.Our bill was $60 and did include two glasses of "house" wine ($8 each) and one iced tea.
