It is definitely pricey and upscale but I have never been disappointed - I have tried most of the dishes and every single one was a winner, the wine selection is great, and the service is very good. Wow! Talk about an amazing service recovery! We decided to go back to The Mercury after I personally spoke with Chef Ward about the previous horrendous experience. We are so glad we did. The meal was amazing. Everything we ate (even the bread) was off-the-charts awesome. The service (which was the biggest issue last time) was as good as it gets. Our server, Medi, was one of the best servers I have ever had. He was perfect. I want to thank Chef Ward, Moe (restaurant manager) and Heather Mashburn of M Crowd for making everything right with us. We will be frequent patrons of The Mercury for years to come. -------------------------------- I wanted to update this review to let everyone know that companies/restaurants can use social media outlets to give the impression that they are concerned about customer service and making things right, when a customer has a horrible experience. However, that impression can, often times, be a facade. It certainly is, in this case. As you can see in my previous review, we had a horrible experience at The Mercury and Heather Mashburn responded to me (and to my fellow diner, Dwayne, on his review) that she would like to make the experience right. I first emailed Heather on 2/6, in response to her post on Yelp. She finally had the courtesy of responding to me 3 days later (2/9) telling me that she alerted the restaurant about the issue and wanted to "mail me a gift card" to use on a future visit. I emailed her back less than an hour later with a few questions. Since then, it's been radio silence from Ms. Mashburn, after 3 follow-up emails. It's quite obvious that M Crowd Restaurant Group couldn't care less about the customer experience and they are, essentially, tricking people into thinking they do by responding to negative reviews on Yelp, with no follow-up. It's unacceptable to fail to respond to a customer's email after 6 days. I received no out of office message from her and I responded to her initial email less than an hour after she sent it. Folks, our experience at The Mercury was abysmal. The worst service I have experienced in the DFW metroplex. To add insult to injury, their corporate offices couldn't care less. I highly encourage anyone reading this review to pick another restaurant. Don't spend your hard-earned money on lousy service and on a company that doesn't care about your experience. read more

I am glad we gave this a try, but will not be returning. The fillet mignon was served rare, and the waiter did not wait for the steaks to be cut into. I waited 10 minutes for the waiter to come back to check on us, and when my steak returned it was charred black. The Mercury does not fulfill the standards the restaurant it is trying to portray. We went to The Mercury (a local fine dinning restaurant for years at Preston and Forest this past Saturday night. The valet was smiling and very polite. "All Guests Will Wear Masks" was posted on the door. That's a nice notice. Went inside and were immediately taken to our table for two. Our server was very attentive. We ordered cocktails, talked and had to tell our server that we were not ready to order three times. Tedious. My date who has frequented this place much more than I asked "Isn't warm bread served?" The server replied that it had not been brought to the table already and had an attendant bring some out to us. It had ramekins of a home made pate' and smooth butter. When we finally decided to order, we decided that we would split a salad and a NY strip. I am so glad we did. Both were huge. Both were presented perfectly, perfectly prepared and very tasty. We both had a glass of cabernet with the steak. Dessert was also shared, a slice of a very dense chocolate cake/pie. Again, perfect in taste and portion. We were treated well, food was very good and pricing was standard for fine dining. I have no problem recommending this place to anyone and will be going back. read more

I have never been more offended by a restaurant experience in my life. My girlfriend and I visited Dallas and decided to use Yelp to locate an upscale, but reasonable dining establishment. Mercury had a robust rating and positive reviews, so we were excited to dine there with decent expectations. Unfortunately, we left feeling scammed by an underwhelming meal consisting of salad, wine, and fish that was definitely NOT fresh, not to mention extremely and unethically marked up in price. First, I'll say that the service staff was very responsive and the wine selections provided by the sommelier were on point. We ordered a pear and Gorgonzola salad that was okay; but the candied walnuts seemed to have come from a cracker jacks box or something, because they tasted packaged, stale, and cheap. Then we moved to our entrée: the tuna "mignon" looked up my alley, while my girlfriend gravitated towards the Dover sole, which was at market price. Instead of asking for the market price ("Could it really be more than $35?"), we just went for it. Mistake on our part. Now, I'm not too familiar with Dover sole, but I know it's a flatfish from Europe, somewhat valuable (as far as flatfish goes), blah blah blah. But to pay $52 for a piece of overly buttered panfried fish smothered in bread crubs (gag me) is unreal. At least $20 well over what I've ever paid for fish at a restaurant, you can imagine that we were appalled. The tuna, which was also disgusting, was a tad more reasonable at $27. But, and forgive me if this is normal for seafood in Dallas, when is rare tuna supposed to be chewier than jerky? This fish was obviously not fresh, and borderline inedible. I'm reluctant to even detail the aftermath of the meal itself, including our expression of extreme displeasure and their apathy for serving under-quality ingredients at a jacked up price, but I can tell you that Mercury is well aware of its lackluster dishes, going insofar to tell us that, "we weren't the first to be disappointed by this meal." They did, however, tell us that the market price for the sole sometimes goes at $58. I'm not sure if that was supposed to make us feel better or impress onto us the capacity at which they're able to rip people off. I can't express my disapproval for this place enough. But hey, if you're into terrible food at a premium, it might be your cup of tea! read more

I took my food-snob friend here for his birthday. The service was great, the wine was delicious, but I wish I would have dropped the money at Perry's, Ounce, Al Biernat's, or even The Keg in Plano. Not that the food was bad. It was good, but it is last in line to the above-mentioned locations. The "ambiance" looked like it would be pretty, but all I remember was darkness with a tinge of red here and there, and then we were seated in a corner table with booth seating on one end -- on my end. Now, I'm accustomed to people telling me how freakishly young I look, and I try hard to make up for it by exhibiting some sense of maturity. But when you're 5ft 1' and sinking into booth seating until your chin hits the table at an "elegant" restaurant, graceful appearances are difficult to maintain. And perhaps my main falicy was my order. I guess I was trying to be healthy and chicken simply wouldn't cut it. I ordered the tuna filet. First of all, tuna is tuna, no matter how you sear it. Basically, its glorified cat food and will always smell as such. Yes, it was the least-impressive thing I could have ordered, but even Kelly wasn't knocked over by his steak. I can see why people like it, but I'm not at all motivated to go back. I'm also not motivated to actively stay away, so take that as you will. The Mercury is one of my favorite restaurants in Dallas. The executive chef is Chris Ward, who has created a new American cuisine based off French and Mediterranean influences. (Ya, I pulled that from the web site!) The steak is always grilled to perfection -- mine was a center cut fillet with a crab meat topping. The steak was not slathered in butter, but rubbed so that you wind up tasting the meat and not the sauce. The waiter made a wine selection for us and said if we didn't like it, he'd be happy to take it back and keep trying until we were satisfied. He hit it out of the park with his first pick, so we didn't have to take him up on the offer. The only risk in eating here is that you can easily fill up on the pate! I am blessed to work for a kick-ass company who rewards their employees with a celebratory dinner for our hard work with the opportunity to dine at The Mercury. I am an LA girl so I am constantly eating at the best restaurants in the country. I didn't really think much of the Mercury when I first stepped off our CNG powered shuttle, it really looked like some teen hangout spot with its polka dot exterior or some bubbly cheesy gentlemen's club. When i got in, the diners average age was around 40ish or so....but when the waiters came out with plates of yummy appetizers, it totally changed my judgement of the venue. The SERVICE IS IMPECCABLE! They are always listening to what you want and your tastes and the suggestions they give you are superb (it's like they are food psychics!!! I got the foie gras (THE BEST THING EVER - I HAD A MOUTHGASM LIKE NO OTHER!) Coming from California (the land of banned foie gras) I couldn't have been happier. Earlier in the day I was joking with my friend that I Was going to order the foie gras, I had no idea that it was going to be open menu, and how awesome my company is to cash out money like that. The goat cheese and beet salad was light but sophisticated in taste. I missed fresh produce with quality ingredients. Then for my entree, I ordered the rib eye steak.. ONE word WOW!! The meat was so tender with just the right amount of salt ... the crust just meshed with the juiciness of the steak... topped with some crunch onion rings and a side of mashed potatoes... my eyes rolled back to the back of my head. I just wanted to cry... my life completed a full revolution.. I would be happy if I died at that moment...it was absolutely one of the best dining experience this year. Thank you!!! read more

I've heard great reviews from coworkers about this place, so I was pretty excited. From the moment I called in to make a reservation to the moment I left and said bye to the person holding the door, I felt like those people were high or just didn't know what was going on. As we arrived, we stood there for a few minutes waiting for the hostess to get off the phone. She never looked up to acknowledge us or anything. A man finally came over and offered to help. After a few minutes of trying to figure out where to seat us (b/c the hostess was STILL on the phone), we sat. Without any menus, we has to just sit there waiting for something to happen. Finally our waiter, Darryl, showed up, empty handed to take our drink orders. After getting bread and our drinks our menus finally arrived. The waiter stood around a lot, never asked us how our food was, and he took forever to bring menus...take our order...bring the check, etc. He was not nice, polite, or accommodating...kinda rude and pushy actually. Just really Poor service! My food as well was not what I had expected. I ordered the blackened fish. It was so over cooked, I used a knife to cut it and had to chew it. The black beans and rice were UNDER cooked, so that was chewy too. The bread and my hot tea were nice. :P I don't know if we were there on a really bad day or if their service and staff are getting lazy. But this was my first and LAST experience there! read more

Caviar Egg - vodka cream very rich and compliments the egg & caviar topping Pork Belly à la Française - succulent and not for the faint of heart Tagliolini Gratinati - delectable sauce and pasta make for a perfect Italian dish well worth the calories Sashimi of Yellowtail - jalapeño and ponzu sauce compliment the fresh clean yellowtail Entrees Black Cod - blonde Miso sears the perimeter, steamingly packing in the succulent fresh fish. asparagus, bok choy, and pickled ginger flatter the fish well. Potato fritter is perfectly cooked and even though I never order French fries or tator tots, I'd order the fritter and adore how the thin and decadent flavor satisfy a potato fix with not too much volume. Desserts Homemade sorbets sing fresh lively decadence Cheesecake with cooked outter shell delivers the dynamic duo of slightly cool rich creamy inside & hot flakey outter crust. Chef, I believe, was brought back to Texas to launch Mercury after being recruited from New Hampshire by a very keen & proven successful restauranteur. I'm torn on my review of this joint. My first outing here with the Mrs. was for our Wedding Anniversary dinner a few weeks ago. The food is phenomenal, the service is abysmal! I'd like to give more stars, but our server ruined our dining experience that evening... We came in for an early dinner that Saturday, the front dining area was already packed and hustling. We were seated in the 2nd dining area, where it was us & 3 other tables! Lol, again, it was an early dinner. That same room was full about an hour later! Things started off alright, we were greeted, told about the dinner specials, given some time to decide on what we wanted. We ordered our appetizers, the Mrs. had the caviar egg (meh), and I had the 48hr braised short rib...amazing! We ordered cocktails as soon as apps came out, seemed our server was annoyed we didn't order a bottle of wine after he had brought the wine list. That's when things went south service wise. We ordered our entrees when the apps came out, the wait wasn't too bad, and was definitely worth it! We had the Black Cod & Lamb Shank. The cod was cooked perfectly! The crispy sear of the glaze and moistness of the fish was delicious! The lamb is a Flintstonian portion of meat! Great lamb flavor without being too gamey, and the melty fat just coats your lips like an awesome meat flavored lip balm! Haha! Insanely good! The entrees come and go, yet our server is no where to be found anymore. For the duration of our meal we see him only 3 more times. Oh, but we do hear him at every other table he's serving offering them wine tastes, going into further detail on all the menu items, suggesting desserts, etc. The busser was the one who asked us if we wanted dessert, seriously?! Ten minutes after that, server stops by and asks, "You want dessert?". Really? That's it, no recommendations, no nothing, the two tables behind us got a little lesson in what you had, we get three words. I think what really pissed me off the most was the checkout. This jerk just drops off the check, I place my card in, then he just took it and brought it back without a thank you, please come back, or I hope you enjoyed your meal, NOTHING! Unbelievable, that is inexcusable for an establishment like this! Having worked in the service industry for the better part of my 20's, I'm a standard 20% tipper, but this guy really tested me on that. This is my longest review ever on here, but it shows how strongly I felt about my experience. Food wise, I hope they don't change a thing because it's fantastic. My boyfriend took me here for my birthday after I'd seen some promising Yelp reviews. Overall my assessment: great food, weak service. Big food plus: bread comes with a delicious chicken pate. I ended up eating WAY more bread than I should have, thanks to that. My boyfriend wasn't a fan, but pate isn't for everyone. Plus, I wasn't arguing...more for me. I ate off their seasonal menu and got the compressed watermelon salad for an appetizer which was absolutely amazing. One of those really unique yet delicious dishes. It had watermelon, 2 types of cheese (including bleu cheese), tomatoes and prosciutto. For dinner I had a tasty mushroom risotto and finished it up with an excellent bread pudding. This restaurant could have been a solid 4 stars or maybe even 5 if I was in a really good mood. But the service was just so so - and for an upscale restaurant that's really disappointing. When we were seated we sat there staring at each other for 5-10 minutes before I made eye contact with another waiter. He went to check and discovered that our server had left and never told the hostess. So lucky him got to be our waiter. We could have gotten past that, but the service just never felt warm. He checked on us frequently, but it was always, "do you need anything" and not "how is the meal? are you enjoying yourselves?" So many comparable places that we go the servers are very warm and make you feel appreciated - I never felt that here. I was disappointed that although they have a bar, they don't have any signature cocktails or even a cocktail menu at all. We usually drink red wine, but I was randomly in the mood for white and asked the waiter for some help in choosing a bottle and were told that he doesn't know anything about any of the wines. When it came time to order dessert, the first one my boyfriend ordered wasn't available - it wasn't sold out - it just hadn't been prepared. He ordered a glass of port and the waiter came back and told him they were out of that too. Overall the food was great, but the service was so lackluster, I feel no need to return. I also wouldn't recommend that anyone go out of their way to attend. There are plenty of comparable restaurants that will also make you feel like they appreciate you choosing them. read more

Wow..loved this place! We showed up without a reservation and they didn't flinch! The service was superb and the food was divine. Our waiter could not have been more friendly and accommodating. The atmosphere was fantastic. You would never know you were not in a standalone building and the ambiance was relaxed and modern. Not a typical North Dallas affair. The 48-hour braised short ribs are a must have appetizer and both my husband and I had steaks cooked perfectly. The sides were the perfect portions and tasted fantastic (get the mac and cheese)! We ended on a great note with the chocolate souffle and I could have licked the ramekin! It was a perfect night, perfect wine, perfect service and perfect meal. read more

Fantastic upscale M Crowd restaurant. Don't be fooled by the shopping center exterior, once you walk in you will see that this restaurant is sophisticated yet hip. We went during restaurant week and were very pleased with the choices. Every dish was superb and the presentation was beautiful. We tried so many different things that I can even remember what we had! Disclaimer - our service was bad but I did not remove a star for that yet. I am thinking it had to do with restaurant week and not a reflection of the restaurant's regular service. They did, however, provide us a fantastic crepe appetizer that was not on the menu as an apology. If it happens again, a star will come off. read more

I really like this place because the food is A+ the staff is A+ and the atmosphere is dark, quiet, and super chic. However, I do believe one should be prepared to pay out of the wah-zoo. I mean maybe my being a college student makes me refuse to pay $12 for a hamburger. But. I did. Anyways. Anything here not only tastes great but looks great. It's a place where food meets art - on the dinner plate. I've only had one problem here - and this is the bartender refusing to give me a drink. I know I look young and I'm extremely short. But being like this means I run into this a lot. And I have never met anyone so rude. Not only did he question my age but he refused to believe anything I said and embarrassed me in front of my company. Luckily, they spoke up for me and we raised hell to the manager. The Mercury has become one of our favorite restaurants in Dallas. We frequently dine here for both sushi and their regular menu. Every time our meals come out perfectly. The first great thing about this restaurant is that Chris Ward is the chef. For those who don't know- he has cooked at the White House more than once and was THISCLOSE to being the White House Executive Chef. He talents I have learned, may have no bounds. I went with a group of seven people- 6 adults and 1 ridiculously cute 6 year old- and upon walking in we were greeted with smiles and immediately taken through the dimly lit room to a cozy yet spacious back booth at the farthest end of the dining space. Secluded yet not closed off- perfect. We nibbled on several scrumptous appetizers and we all but licked the plates. My favorite was the sashimi of yellowtail- light and with a tiny kick of heat from fresh jalepeno. An absolute must is the wild mushroom risotto with truffle oil- anything with truffle oil is bound to be amazing. It's warm and creamy and melts in your mouth as a good risotto should. This is in the entree section. I ordered the duck breast confit and it was the perfect blend of crispiness on the outside and just enough of a fat layer to make the meat tender and juicy. Others ordered steaks, and I must say they do this quite well. I was able to steal some bites of the 9 oz. filet and I was not let down. It was thick, nicely seasoned and cooked to the correct temperature, which without care can ruin a dinner for those of us who are picky when it comes to cooked beef. And don't discount the french fries, or should I say pommes frites- some of the best I have had. Sevice was fast and our server was attentive and polite. This was the best experience I've had culinarily speaking in Dallas in my 15 months here. The service was superb, the ambiance exquisite, I would jump up and down on a couch on Oprah for this eatery. The wine prices weren't as obscene as how decadent their chicken liver pat was to my waistline. The stemware refects their appreciation for wine. This place eclipses The Federalist in Boston, Cru in Chicago, Driskill & Hudson's in Austin. And this coming from a guy who ate a hot dog 4 hours ago. Went on Valentines day. Everything was on point!! The service was excellent!! They were always quick to help, but gave us some space to enjoy the evening. When good was ordered, it came out quickly. I ordered the cracking chicken and the wife ordered the duck. Both were excellent. Even better was the crab dip appetizer. Mashed potatoes were great too!! If it wasn't for the consistently amazing food I'd never go back to The Mercury. EVERY time we go we have issues. The hosting staff is unhelpful and sometimes downright rude. The service is hit or miss, but never great. I have watched other waiters there give excellent service, but then the chef or owner goes to their table and greets them like family or good friends.....there's my explain action for that. Our last visit, with a reservation, resulted in being made to stand in the packed bar for 45 minutes because they didn't have a table for us. Seriously? No free app, no free drink, no nothing except Sorry. When we finally got a table it was still littered with the last groups junk. The hostess left I'd standing in the middle of the room and never came back. We watch the table get cleared and decided to seat ourselves before it got snatched up by someone else. The horrid waiter showed up and asked for our drink order....no wine list, no greeting, no menus. Dude, we have been waiting an hour, bring me a frickin menu! After ordering wine and finally the meal we didn't see that awful little man until we were done eating, sitting at a cleared table with no drinks or anything. He never offered help, suggestions or a smile. On the way out I told the hosting staff that the experience was horrible. Bad management of this place. Eventually the good food isn't going to be able to make up for the lack of organization and service. High point: the Black cod, crispy salmon, filet and salads are what keep this review from being a 1 star. read more

What a surprise! A friend took us here and I expected a high priced Outback, I was completely wrong. I ordered the Black Cod. This fish was the best I have ever eaten. It was melt in your mouth moist, the meat "flaked" apart so I ate with chopsticks. The flavor was divine and if there weren't so many people I would have licked my plate. This I will defiantly be back for again and again. For the quality the price is cheap, just be prepared for incredible cuisine and a $40 dinner. read more

This is a nice choice for special occasions. I dined on a Saturday night at 6:30 with a group of five. Our server was knowledgeable of the items on the menu and attentive throughout the meal. There are two separate large dining rooms, one that opens to the bar with more energy (and noise), and one that is a bit quieter. Both are nice in their own right, and both were full when we left. It's a plus that it is located in a plaza so you can opt out of the valet if desired. I sampled the oysters and scallops, and ordered the sea bass and soufflé. The oysters were excellent, as were the souffles at the table and the scallops. My sea bass was very good, but I might try a different entrée next time. The Mercury is a smart dining choice that will provide a pleasant background to whatever you want to focus on at your table, without the disappointing distractions of a lesser establishment. After several holiday brunches with the family, I've decided that I like this place. Granted, I've only visited on holidays for the buffet, so that's what I'm reviewing. The buffet is excellent! There's so much to choose from, and everything is fantastic. For my Easter brunch yesterday, I decided that each trip to the buffet would consist of a miniature version of my breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert. It was a success! Eggs Benedict, tomato and buffalo mozzarella, waffles, brisket, and the dessert bar were all winners. The buffet is $50 per person. Not cheap. Add a cocktail and after-dinner coffee, and you're looking at about $70 per person. Also, the crowd is a predominantly older crowd. We only end up dining here with my boyfriend's parents. This is not a place I would visit on my own, unless I was having a drink at the bar. read more

My wife and I were in north Dallas for business and had a free evening for dinner. Since it had been awhile since we had planned a really nice evening at a truly fine dining restaurant, we consulted YELP and discovered The Mercury. We were excited to find a restaurant that was not a cookie cutter chain such as Del Frisco's, Oceanaire, McCormick & Schmicks, or TruLucks. Don't misunderstand, we have enjoyed wonderful meals at all of these places, but it is nice to find an original. Our wait service was very professional, making quality recommendations and discretely coming and going allowing us to spend time visiting with each other and not constantly acknowledging their service. My wife had the filet of the evening and it was spectacular, I swear, it was so tender and well prepared that you felt is literally melt in your mouth. The portion size was exactly appropriate and beautifully presented with vegetable and potato. I had the tuna mignon and was prepared exactly to my specifications with an impressive presentation. The evening was started with an order of lump crab taco's and a caesar salad with polenta croutons. Just enough for a first course without threatening our ability to enjoy our entree. It was a wonderful evening and we would strongly recommend this Dallas diamond for a special evening. The only reason we did not give this review five stars instead of four is that it arguably is slightly over-priced. If they would adjust both their food and wine menus by 10 to 15%, then they would, without a doubt, deserve five stars in our opinion. I feel as if this place is trying to be a lot fancier than it should. The interior is dark, which is made even darker by the deep brown accents and wood decor. When it comes to service, my experience was a bit hit or miss. They were really on-top of refilling our glasses and taking away our dishes, but it was almost a little TOO consistent. On top of that, our waitress came immeasurably close to spilling two dishes and also brought me out iced tea that I didn't order. When it comes to the cuisine, I'd have to describe it as OK. I ordered the fish tacos with a side of brussels (my go-to when it comes to judging the quality of a restaurant). The tacos were a bit bland and didn't offer any sides, despite the price. On top of that the tortillas weren't even warmed or flamed; leaving them soggy from the overly watery fish. And as for the sprouts, they were extremely under-seasoned. As far as I could tell, they were sautéed in butter and left to their own devices--clearly not the best I've had. All in all, it was an average dining experience. I think The Mercury should focus less on the pomp and circumstance and more on delivering great food. I just feel it's trying to be something it's not. read more

Her majesty and I were in Dallas for the weekend and she found the Mercury and suggested we try it for dinner. To put it bluntly, it was extraordinary. We started with a lobster and crab dip, followed by a ribeye oscar which we split, and mac and cheese. All of it was excellent and the steak was arguably the best I have ever had. Generous poors of high quality drinks from the bar, excellent service and an enjoyable atnosphere rounded out the evening. One thing I do recommend. We tend to like a quiet meal and I requested a quiet table when I made the reservation. There are two rooms in the restaurant - a main room which you enter through the front door and a side room. The main room is very loud, but the side room was much quieter and it was much easier to have a conversation. Just something to keep in mind. read more

Went during restaurant week...So excited about going because we had heard that it was a place George and Laura really liked. I thought restaurant week was to encourage people to try the food not discourage! Probably won't be going back. We were first timers! The flood was ok, the restaurant was hot (miseralbly HOT) and the waiter...well he was just miserable! Not friendly, had to continue to ask for more tea...and yes we did have alchol at our table... it wasn't like were trying to cheap out, we just have a few that don't drink! So let me throw this out...if your waiters hate restaurant week and they don't want to serve people during that time...WHY PARTCIPATE? All it did was turn us off. I am sure The Mercury is a wonderful experience....we just did have it!! Oh and BTW if you are not going to serve something ie the Quail...then don't put it on the web menu! read more

Mercury has a five star menu, but the actual experience, while still enjoyable, wasn't that impressive. Of the items ordered, about half exceeded expectation (especially the steak), but the duck was dried out, the tartar was prepared with a overpowering citrus marinade and the potatoes were lost in a top layer of butter and cheese. The second sticking point was the atmosphere- the dining room was dark and intimate but the modern black and red color palette didn't mesh well in a room that looked as though it was also designed to hold meetings and other structured functions. Service was phenomenal from start to finish and a valet was available for parking but probably not necessary with the large parking lot in front. read more

One of the perks in my job is that fellow colleagues often show their appreciation for working together with gift cards. I recently received a gift card here at The Mercury and was excited to try the place. I've heard rave reviews from my fellow co-workers and I truly wasn't disappointed. Now, the restaurant is in a shopping center which is odd for such a nice restaurant. A lot of the higher end restaurants are in freestanding buildings but don't let it fool you. We were seated promptly after making reservations, which I recommend. We were poured water and our waiter promptly showed up soon after. We were served bread with pate and butter spread. I am a huge pate fan and it was delicious. We ended up ordering a pear and gorgonzola salad, a goat cheese and beet salad, the halibut, and I got the special which was sesame encrusted ahi tuna with foie gras, and what looked like fish sticks made out of mashed potatoes. We also had a couple of glasses of white wine to boot. My wife thoroughly enjoyed her meal and my meal was fantastic. The ahi tuna was perfectly seared on the outside and still had the nice rare interior. The foie gras was good, not great. I could have done without the potatoes. I was also served a flan that came with my meal. I couldn't decide what type of flan it was, but it smelled like cauliflower. Overall, this is a great place if you are looking to spend some money on a good meal and support a fantastic chef in Chris Ward. Thumbs up here. read more

We absolutely love The Mercury; however, last week we celebrated our 30th anniversary there and the service was a real disappointment. We decided to try the sushi side for the first time. When I made the reservation I let them know it was our 30th anniversary. We arrived at 6 and it was great! There was only one other table seated. But it did not take long for every table to fill. Unusual for a Tuesday night. And there was only one waitress working the area. The service deteriorated rapidly. And there was never an acknowledgement of the big occasion we were celebrating. Not what I expected from this beautiful establishment. The management knew it would be busy...I heard the waitress comment how unusual it was to have that many reservations on a Tuesday. read more

WE had a lovely lunch at The Mercury! The upscale elegant decor was beautiful, and the service was great. We LOVED both risotto dishes we got for the table, and my blackened red snapper was outstanding. The macaroni had too much sharp parmesan (guessing which cheese) so it wasn't my favorite ever. And the shrimp bisque was a little "tomato-ey" for all of our taste. But the crispy roasted chicken and veal were so good, who cares about macaroni! All in all, it was a great lunch and we will definitely be back. read more

I came here for lunch when I was in town for business. i think I had the opposite experience that everyone else did. My server was excellent. She was attentive without being overbearing and gave me great recommendations of what to order. The hostess even stashed my suitcase for me while I dined and they were gracious enough to order a cab for me so I could get to my business meeting. When it came for service, I didn't feel want for anything. I had the fish tacos and the portabello fries. Both were perfectly cooked with a good mix of flavors. My only quibble is that having looked at the menus ahead of time, the dinner menu looked much more interesting than the lunch menu. The lunch menu seemed a bit more standard vs. gourmet. The food was good, but not particulary noteworthy. I'm not sure I would recommend someone go out of their way to go here for lunch, but if you're here the lunch fare is very solid and well done. read more

I've never had a bad meal here, and the service is consistently top notch. Ask for the burger menu at lunch! Best burgers in Dallas. Don't miss the onion rings to boot. Do not have the house cab. It's my first and only bad experience here. Parking is ample if you don't mind stretching your legs, but valet is also available for those pouring down rainy days. read more

What a terrible night at The Mercury! While the food was good, we had a number of issues - ranging from poor service to car damage: 1) The waiter came by after a couple minutes with menus and wine list. We weren't immediately ready to select a wine. After about 15 min, we asked for the manager. Several minutes later, the waiter came back so we could order wine. We ordered sushi at the same time. 2) Waiter brought wine about 10 min later. But you were out of what we ordered - a Sancerre - so waiter brought a 1/2 bottle of something else. We opted for something different. It arrived another ~10 min later - warm. Took about 40 min after being seated to get our first glass of warm white wine! 3) Edamame arrived but there was very little room on the table. While making room for it, the food runner spilled my soy sauce all over the table and offered no help cleaning it up. I wiped it up instead. I had to ask for a new napkin. 4) Sushi, sashimi and nigiri were delivered, but no one explained what was what (and it was chef's choice). We purposefully ate slow and tried to keep one of each on the the plate so we could ask. We didn't make it. Eventually waiter came by and told us what most items were, but we'd already finished some. 5) Along with the above, the yellowtail and jalapeño was delivered at the same time. We decided to move that to our plates quickly as there was not enough room on the table (we had to hold that plate up above the table). Then had to ask someone to take the plate so we could eat.  6) Another 15+ min later, waiter came back and we were able to order an additional roll. And more, but you get the gist. Also note: - We often had to refill our own wine, but other times it was refilled  - Water glasses were frequently almost empty - but were always refilled just before getting there. Good... I guess?  - Complimentary dessert was nice but in no way made up for the overall poor service across many of the staff. And to top it all off, as I went to leave, the valet informed me that he had somehow broken the knob off the gear shift in my car! At least he offered to pay for any associated costs. Let's see if that actually happens. What a mess!!! read more
