So I may be spoiled but for the price of the menu items, this place gets 2 stars at best. Took my wife here last night and though we got in with minimal wait, we ended up waiting 5 minutes to be greeted. After finally getting the drink menu and ordering our bottle of Shiraz we were then given the menus after I had to request it. We ended up ordering the "prime" ribeye and "prime strip". We ended up waiting another 30 minutes after ordering our steaks for the dinner to arrive. Unfortunately the ribeye was very fatty. I know a prime steak when I see one and I highly doubt the ribeye was prime cut. In addition it was very salty. I was surprised they had to make creamy horse radish which didn't come out till I was half way through my steak. My wife ordered the "prime" ny strip. She ordered it medium but when it came out it appeared black and blue. We mentioned this to the waiter and our concerns that the outside looked burned and the inside was raw. He said no problem. They ended up taking it but later returned with the same cut burned on the outside but this time the middle was medium. To try and cover it they poured steak glaze over it. My wife decided to put the effort into cutting rah burnt outside off and eating the center. The steaks were not that tender at all. They offered us both a complimentary dessert for the inconvenience. But to drop $200 for 2 meals, I'll be going back to Al Bernaits next time. Honestly had it not been for the server who was very personable this review would be at least a star lower. Had a birthday dinner here last weekend and was also my first time to dine. I have to say I had lower expectations, given that it was part of The M Group that owns chains, but those premonitions were slammed to the ground when I left! Chris Ward has it right.....the location isn't the best, but the service and more importantly, the food definitely keeps regulars...well regular! I started off with a smoked pulled pork enchilada in a red, smoked tomato salsa and it was fantastic. It kind of reminded me of Ferring's duck enchilada but with a smoky finish that didn't over due it. For my entree I had the prime 6oz tenderloin which came on a bed of "dynamite" veggies which were basically carrots, zucchini, onion, and squash but were way more than that. Thanks to my 2nd frigid Grey Goose martini, I couldn't remember to take mental note of how they tasted but I remember thinking, "Damn....these vegetables are Dyn-o-mite!", which is probably what Chef Ward was gambling on when he threw those in as opposed to the normal starch. Service was spot on and didn't over do it or leave us wanting anything....in fact one of the girls brought in a cake which they kept in the fridge while we ate and then brought it out candle lit towards the end. It was a nice touch for her to slice and serve a cake that she wasn't adding to our tab! All in all I will definitely be back and will be recommending them to my friends! read more

Really good experience when my wife and I went for the first time. I got the halibut special and she got the black cod. Both were really good. The service was really good as well. The only thing keeping it from being a 5 star rating is the price. It is slightly overpriced to me. read more

I took my husband here for his birthday. The black cod is unbelievable - even better than Nobu. He had the tuna which was prepared perfectly and the pepper crust on it was fantastic. I love soufflé and couldn't decide between chocolate and raspberry so they made me one that was half and half. Even though there were a lot of people in the restaurant, it was very quite and we could have a conversation without having to speak loudly- I think the padded ceiling helps that but it was very intimate even though the restaurant is very open. Service was very pleasant and fast. We had a great time! read more

We went to The Mercury for dinner. We both started with the Foie Gras appetizer and it was really outstanding. I felt like I was back in Paris. Then my guest had a beet salad with arugula and Gorgonzola cheese which came with candied pecans. The salad was very tasty and the flavors all blended together nicely. My guest had the short rib appetizers as a main course. They arrived perfectly cooked and the sauce was very complimentary to the short ribs. I was looking at the seared duck breast or the veal chop which was the special for the evening. I made it clear to the waiter that I was skeptical of ordering a veal chop outside a steak house since I know they can be overcooked or chewy. He checked with the chef/owner, Chris Ward, and I was guaranteed it would be the best veal chop ever. I asked him to have it cooked at the chef's discretion as far as rare, medium, etc. It arrived and I tested it with my fork and I could tell it was very rare. I cut and tasted it. The piece was cold and barely cooked. It was very tough. The waiter brought it back to the kitchen. It came back out and I could hardly cut through it. It was more medium but still lukewarm. It was so tough that I needed Leatherface from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre to cut it. I chewed and chewed finally depositing the piece of veal in my napkin. The maitre d came over and told me he would not charge me for the veal (I guess I should have considered myself lucky) and then proceeded to tell me he had served over 20 with no problem. I guess he thought I was lying. Oh, and there were probably 75 people in the restaurant and I saw no one around us or anyone as we left eating this supposedly popular veal chop. They did comp us 2 desserts. I would have rather have had a superb entree than 2 common place desserts. read more

Somewhat disappointed...I had heard the bar was great. But it was crowded, stuffy and noisy on the night I tried it and with a bartender who offered slow rather disinterested service towards me. Also, I have a better stocked bar at my home for godsakes. (no Luxardo should be a crime in any supposedly high-end cocktail bar.) I know, I know, it's a restaurant first but it does like to tout it's bar as well and frankly I just don't see the quality. This is a good restaurant, but don't expect exceptional food. The menu is extensive, having unusual items like sweatbreads and risotto. The service is impeccable. We did have a few problems: My filet mignon was ordered medium-rare and came rare. The sweatbreads were listed on the menu as being crispy but they were not. The risotto was slightly undercooked. On the other hand, the chocolate cake was wonderful - like a huge pice of truffle filling. The atmosphere is VERY dark inside. There is nothing organc on the menu. They were gay friendly. read more

While the food was pretty good, unfortunately the 2 stars come from the horrible service we received. Our waitress, a middle-aged blonde lady, was fantastically horrible. After ten minutes of sitting, we had to ask for menus. Waters were the same way. Our waitress was flat-out rude to my mother when she asked questions about the menu and was simply horrible to my father. The attitude we received from our waitress was unlike anything we had experienced before. This is not always the case at this restaurant. Jessie and Brian are both wonderful waiters, so the service is simply hit or miss. read more

This is a date night place or if you want to impress a business client. The crowd is older...in their 60's+ on a Friday night. Also got a little loud after 7. Really dark lighting. Not too dressy but business casual. We spent $225 for 1 drink, 2 appetizers, 2 salads, 2 entrees and 2 desserts. Pretty good food. The bread came with pate and butter and that was a nice touch. Service is a little sketchy...guess the waitress did not understand that we wanted our appetizers brought out at the same time. I got my Lobster souffle 10 minutes before the acorn squash ravioli arrived so since I don't eat until all parties are served, my souffle got a little chilled. Still yummy but it could have had a bit more lobster in it. I didn't like the ravioli...kind of bland. My friend ordered salad and I got the New England clam chowder. Chowder needed salt but to make up for the lack of seasoning they had splashed a little Tabasco on top. Not very original. The Filet of beef was REALLY good and my friends lamb was good. We took it home with us. We ordered a Coconut souffle and a Chocolate souffle. The chocolate was just a bit undercooked but then I love warm chocolate so it didn't really matter that it was a bit soupy. Overall I liked it enough to give Mercury another chance to impress. Not sure what people with the lower ratings are talking about but I was impressed with the service and attentiveness. I was also impressed with the Scotch menu. I had the 16 OZ rib eye med rare and it was excellent. I also ordered a side of the mushroom risotto with black truffles and truffle oil and it was delicious. The grand mariner souffle was good as well. I have worked in restaurants for 20 years and was very impressed. Based off of the other reviews I have read maybe they don't do seafood as well as some people would like and to those people I would suggest going to a seafood place. Seafood is a pretty small part of their menu. read more

Delicious food. 48 hour braised short rib wasn't as fall apart as expected but was quite flavorful. The lamb shank was unreal!! Juicy, flavorful and tender. A must have! Mac and cheese was really good too. Very romantic atmosphere. Great for date night. Will definitely be back. read more

My husband and I went to the Mercury tonight, and my husband ordered the "Trio". He got his meal, and all of the tiny pieces of "meat" were 75%+ FAT. He couldn't eat what was on his plate, and when the waiter finally came to clear it, my husband told him about all of the fat. The waiter told him he was the third or fourth person to tell him that. And that was only one waiter! I expected that he would apologize profusely, offer a free drink or dessert, or not charge us for the meal. Nope. Wrong. He charged us and never apologized. We will never return to the Mercury. read more

Poor rushed service and highly average food at any price. I had not been to the Mercury in a long time. Met a friend there and it did not live up to our memory of it. Our waiter was bored and didn't want to be there. Waiter placed the check in between us during our conversation while we were finishing a bottle of wine after dinner; then he hawked the check. Didn't realize it till I got home, but the bill was wrong; overcharged by a substantial amount. The positive reviews I read here must have been purchased, because our experience was very different. I am sorry to report disappointing. Will not be back. read more

I just had my second wonderful experience at the Mercury! The ambiance, staff, and food are always excellent. I had the salmon burger for lunch and it was out of this world good. The salmon was like a crab cake in terms of consistency and perfectly seasoned and dressed. The fries were perfect. I took my firm for a business lunch there to celebrate. We arrived for our reservation right at the height of the lunch hour and were seated immediately. Thank you for another wonderful experience! read more

I have no beef (pun intended) with the menu or wine list, but don't count on the service staff to come through for you. Despite assurances to my request when reserving a table that our 20th wedding anniversary would be celebrated in some small way during our meal (and double assurances that I did not need to remind them upon arrival), they forgot. In the grand scheme, life is still good despite the Mercury's goof...but we won't be going back there when we want a great meal served well. There are too many other superb local restaurants (like the Cafe on the Green at the Four Seasons, which offers food and service that consistently seem to be trying to surpass each other in quality). read more

This is my favorite restaurant in Dallas. I have been there countless times and have never had a bad meal. The short rib appetizer is great...melts in your mouth. I also like the calamata bread salad. My favorite entrees are the veal chop (milanese is the best!) and the cod. Very good wine list too. Sometimes I will go there and have something lighter at the bar...it is a quick and casual way to enjoy the restaurant. This place is a Dallas gem. read more

Let me start off by saying we had never heard of The Mercury but it was recommended by two of our very good friends who coincidentally met us for dinner that same Saturday night. Wow!!...My wife insisted I first acknowledge the chilled replacement of her warm martini glass as amazing. Apparently now days most restaurants seem to lack a respectful gesture such as this. The Salmon was perfection, better than anywhere we've tried to date. The Halibut was absolutely beautiful the atmosphere is dark and candlelit and the background music is nice as well. We saved the best for last and this of course was the service! Macintosh was his name and it was a pleasure to have met him. I never would have expected the service to be as good as the food but it was one of a kind. It's a beautiful thing to have a crisp, clean, smooth, articulate, personable server. Everything he recommended was flawless in taste and I personally love not having to ask for anything. Macintosh was even OK with posing for picture with us and even as we left Mercury the service continued as Macintosh opened the door and thanked us. I started off by saying we had never been to The Mercury before but now I believe we're here for good!!!!! Keep up the amazing food and service.... Definitely make this a priority destination for a great evening. read more

Best free appetizer in town, but that's just the beginning. I love the chicken pate that is served with the bread. But, you can't go wrong with anything in the place. Don't miss the Black Cod. I live and work a couple of blocks away and needed a place to take a senior colleague from out of town to dinner nearby. I wish I had a better review. We told the waiter we would pass on cocktails and order wine and our server wanted our order yet we hadn't even gotten the menu. I didn't even know they had specials until I heard the server telling the table next to js about 30 minutes after we got there. But my real issue was my entree. I ordered "PAN ROASTED HALIBUT with artichoke cocktail, roasted vegetables and truffle sauce". The halibut was fine and there was a little sauce (no idea if it were truffle-couldn't tell) but the vegetables were very undercooked and strangest of all was the "artichoke cocktail" that was on the halibut. That's because it was guacamole. Very strange. I came home to look at the menu online to remind myself of what the dish was supposed to be. My co-diner was rolling with it all so I didn't say anything since Inhad never met him and didn't want to make an issue out of it. He had the same thing and was surprised but thought it was interesting. I did not. The tomato salad was good though. Going to have to think about this for next time. The price, especially for Dallas, suggests better. read more

It's part of the M Group of restaurants. That's fine. It's seriously close to I-635 which we never ever cross, but that's fine. The food is good and the service is fine. Everything is fine, but it just can't seem to go beyond "fine". It certainly has the potential for being "wow". But it's not there. Part of the reason is the menu - rarely does it change. There are items on that menu that have been there since Moses crossed the Red Sea. Seriously. The chef is clearly in the mode of "if it isn't broke don't fix it". Sometimes the crowd can be odd - like everyone is on a date, being so perky and "Baptist" nice. Sometimes in mid week, it's as if The Stepford Wives have arrived - perfect highlights, Botox injections still working, and the make-up is Neiman Marcus flawless. And they all sit next to one another on the banquette - so if they want to speak each person has to look sideways. I'm sorry, that's not normal behavior. The food is very good, the service is fine sometimes stiff (the restaurant seems to have new staff ALL the time), and it's a good place for maybe once or twice a year. But not more than that. No, there are much better options in Dallas. read more

We have been going to Mecury off and on for years. We recently moved to the neighborhood and excited to reacquaint ourselves With a true Dallas establishment. While the food and drinks are great I have never felt so degraded in my life. In the bar area the waiter was short, abrupt and down right rude to us. We moved into the sushi bar and had great service and excellent sushi. Complained to the manager about the service in the bar area and got a free dessert, ok. He was a little patronizing but ok. Went back recently to have the same waiter talk about us behind the bar with the tall balding bar manager. Never felt so uncomfortable in my life. Maybes Mercury is not welcoming to the gay community. The waiter as I tried to smooth things over refused to apologize and made it even more uncomfortable. He bar manager also did not even make an effort. Our friends who were. With us could not believe what they were seeing. We asked for the manager again and was patronized again. Sad as we use to love going to this place, instead we closed our tab and walked down to Dough and had a great meal with great service. Shame on you Mercury. read more

Made the reservation for 4 over 1 month ago. Arrived early and were seated next to a table of 8 over-served and over-rambunctious, loud "men" from MetLife. They treated the environment like it was a fraternity gathering at the local dive bar. One got up to use the restroom and fell into our table. We commented to our server who was "aware of the situation" (as was every one else in the restaurant). Nothing was done. I excused myself from the table and addressed my concerns to the manager. He asked me what he should do about it, not once but twice. I gave up, went back to the table, and told the other members of our party. In the mean time, we received the dessert menu as if we wanted to extend the painful experience. We asked for the bill--initially, nothing had been done to compensate for the horrible dining experience. Then, another member of our party went the manager demanding that a portion of our bill be discounted. We had ordered 2 bottles of wine; the cod, halibut, lamb, and filet; and the beet/goat cheese salad & wedge salad (dressing ordered on side but came on the salad). Finally, after, again commenting "what do you want me to do about it", an acceptable discount was applied. Given that the party of 8 boys had started their evening in the bar and then continued on into the dining area, the appropriate response from the management staff should have been to ask them to quiet down, stop serving them, and then ask them to leave if they were incapable of acting like adults in a respectable environment. Apparently MetLife staff frequent this location and their behavior is acceptable. Won't go back. read more

Worse service in my life in a restaurant of this purported stature. Service was slow from the start but the topper came when the manager, Reza, accused me and my party of lying. After delivery of our drinks it took a long time for our waiter to bring us menus and longer still before we were able to order anything. After orders were placed and the appetizer was finally delivered, I asked the manager, Reza, as he was passing if we could have some bread for the table, he said it would be delivered right away. After our appetizer was finished, the plates including those for bread were collected, no bread was ever delivered. After suffering from further inattention (empty drinks, no check on if the food was acceptable, nothing), I flagged down Reza and told him that I thought the service was terrible including his own and cited his lack of follow-up to ensure we received the bread we requested, as example. He responded that we got bread and that he saw it delivered. I disagreed and he dismissed me with the comment "enjoy your food if you like." We were dumbfounded. We seldom complain at a restaurant and we never expected to be treated so dismissively. The only reason I give this restaurant 1 star is because the food was good, the black beans served to us were a little undercooked but otherwise the food was well prepared. Regardless, we will never be back, because the service and the way Reza, the manager, handled our complaint was so poor. read more
