I have to say, this is quite possibly the cutest spot on Congress. Ok, there's a ton of cute spots but this one is worthy of being on top of that list. The welcoming vibe from the baristas, the lighting and just the overall environment. We came just for the masala chai latte which was actually really, really good. A little too sweet to my liking but my girlfriend loved the flavor. I'll definitely be back to try more items on the menu because the aroma from the coffee beans was very powerful and I was craving a cup as soon as I stepped out of my car. I am deeply disappointed to be writing this review because I've had pretty positive experiences with The Meteor, but unfair treatment of customers is something I will not stand for. I came in last week with two friends, and we were immediately told off by a Caucasian girl employee that we could not sit three to a table due to COVID-19 regulations. We understood, so one of us waited for a seat to clear and then moved. Today, my two friends and I came in and before we had even picked a table or put any of our things down, the same employee came up to us and rudely told us that we could not sit three to a table. We were already aware, and that was the reason for why we were standing awkwardly in the middle of the establishment and seeing if anyone would get up soon. It was completely full, but I let my two friends sit down and I waited until someone was getting up before taking their place. However, I noticed that two tables next to me were sitting three Caucasian females, and the same employee came by to their table and did not say a single word to them. I casually mentioned this incidence to another employee, and she gave me a bunch of excuses as to why they asked us to split up but did not bother them. One of them was that they only allowed three to a table at that specific table, but my friends and I had sat at the exact same table a week prior and were asked to split up. It's extremely disappointing to see the clear mistreatment of customers, and I do not recommend this place to anyone. Aside from mistreatment, their drinks and food are incredibly overpriced ($5.75 for an iced chair latte? Seriously?) and mediocre at best. read more

It's right off of South Congress so the location is great and there were plenty of drink options. Since I'm not a huge coffee drinker, I felt a bit judged when I asked for suggestions but, regardless, I went with an Iced Vanilla Latte and it was great. There's tons of seating so I think it'd be a nice place to work if you need a break from that home office and they also have a great wine selection for drinks later on. I didn't see the appeal in coming here. If you want an ok cup of coffee or latte, then go for it. But the food came off as sub-par. We got a few tacos, bagel and lox, coffee, tea and some pastries. The tacos were good not great. Potatoes were tough to eat. Pattie's were a bit bland in flavor. Bagel and lox were ok. Yea and coffee were nothing special to write home about. The space gets busy quick so you don't feel comfortable sticking around or staying to get work done. I think there are better places around town that are worth the hassle and money. Being our first time here, I want to point out to anyone else not knowing the space, that there is ample outdoor seating hidden from view. You can access the courtyard by going through the restrooms inside the restaurant or by walking out the front door and take a right through a short alley/sidewalk to a courtyard full of picnic tables with umbrellas. I have to say, so far its the best chicken shawarma I have ever had and love the fact that it's healthier minus the wrap. We also ordered a chocolate chip cookie, fresh baked loaf of sourdough bread, and a chocolate cupcake and all wear just as delicious as the bowl. Read this as a 2.5. So walking into meteor I get super hyped because it's so beautiful! To the right you have the shop with cute souvenirs and their gas and bike shop and to the left you have the cafe with the drinks. So what warrants my iffy review? The service and the overall ambience. I think the staff here could be trained a little better and it feels like they felt like I should be honored to eat there. There's only 1 menu at the counter so you can't peruse the menu until you get to the cashier which makes the whole process so tedious. What we ordered: the 333 tea, the matcha latte, 2 slices of pizza by the pound, and a grain bowl with added chicken shawarma (5 bucks to add chicken). Total came out to be 50 dollars with tip. Note that the default tip percentage on their iPad is 18% so that's what we went with. This is a self serve place. What made we upset was I wanted to order their quiche of the day so I asked what it was. The staff looked at me and giggled and said they didn't know what was the quiche of the day was. They said I could take a look at it and kinda guess the ingredients. I guess this shows little care for food allergies am I right? Impressions of food. Pizza was actually tasty but I ordered the tiniest slice and it was like 5 bucks. When you can go to home slice down the street for like a huge 4 dollar slice. The grain bowl was incredibly bland, chicken overcooked and tiny. I would say it was like less than half a chicken breast. Drinks were tasty. The reasoning for the 2 stars was mainly the service and the grain bowl. I asked the food runner how I would get my drinks and he told me to go wait by the counter to pick it up. This place is really adorable, and the location is stellar! It's a little confusing, because its a bike-coffee-pizza place, but I can't say it doesn't work. When you walk in, they have their available pizzas out for display, and they heat up what you pick. Our group thought the pizza could've been warmer, so I'll ask for extra hot next time I visit. Unless you get an entire pizza, price is by weight. The toppings and cheese are light but great quality, and this is a very bready, non-crisp pizza (so make sure that's your expectation!). Our group favorite was the mushroom/garlic pizza, definitely tons of flavor. If you can handle heat at all, try their pizza with the Calabrese peppers. such an amazing flavor/oil combo to complement the pizza. Great baked goods, too - I recommend anything with brown butter, they know how to balance that flavor! BONUS: Complimentary, self serve sparkling water. Why don't more places do this??? read more

I'll definitely come back to try more varieties and eat a full meal. Sad that they priced their double espresso at $4. That's just way too much, so I passed on it. I know Austin is getting expensive but the norm is $3 around town, with my joint as cheap as $2. Sad to see the roman style sourdough pizza no longer being served but I gave their new round style sourdough pizza another try and its delicious, and worth the $20 for a 16". Easily sharable for two or three people, but this last visit, I went solo, so didn't share with anyone. This place is down the street from my house so I go at least once a week. Its definitely an upscale coffee place with upscale prices. Friends are always shocked when I take them there and between 3 lattes and 3 tacos its $40, but they always leave saying it was one of the best lattes they have ever had. Hint: order a latte with franks almond milk. I love coming here for a coffee and to study or work. Indoor space is well designed and if you come w a larger group of friends, the back patio has picnic tables with patio lights. read more

I met a couple of friends at The Meteor for dinner. I had recommended the spot after a conversation I had with someone a few days earlier. Our little group loves trying new restaurants in the Austin area. One person ordered the 'Chain Lube' cocktail for which she sipped throughout the evening because it was too strong and my other friend, a beer, I had water. We ordered the cheese plate and a full white pizza with onions and sausage. The cheese plate consisted of one portion of really stinky, not very tasty cheese, a few olives, three crackers, and three pieces of homemade Focaccia bread. The bread was excellent and by far the best part of the meal. But to call this a cheese plate with only one small piece of cheese was sad. I'm a cheese fanatic and for the first time, found one that I couldn't eat. I would have gone with a much more familiar cheaper cheese so that a bigger wedge could be served and included more crackers and bread. On to the pizza, I adore Roman-style pizza and had it for the first time many years ago. I liked the way each piece came out individually to start things off, then the rest of the pizza was served. I savored the flavor of the dough, white sauce, and the toppings, but wasn't big on the dryness of the crust. That part made it hard to enjoy the pizza. For the other two, per our conversation at the table, they weren't impressed with any part of the meal. Pizza is one of our main loves, so coming across one that wasn't great was a bit disappointing. The staff wasn't prepared to be open as we asked many questions when ordering, and most answers, including something as simple as the water offered, was wrong. So I'm writing this initial review based on my first experience, with the knowledge that it was only the second full day 'The Meteor' had been open. I'm not going for dinner again, probably lunch. Their menu changes per the meal being served, and features a small menu for each. I'll re-review this place soon with hopefully a better experience. read more
