The delicious shrimp poboy with equally delicious red beans and rice.
Anthony S.

Still love the place, the vibe is still outstanding as is the food. Sat at the bar today and the BT was very pleasant and provided amazing service. I started with an ice cold beer which was well appreciated on a day where temps hit 100 degrees. For sustenance I ordered a shrimp poboy, with remoulade instead of tartar sauce, with a cup of red beans and rice on the side. Both were delicious and quite filling. Also was impressed that the owner actually comes out and talks to his customers. He even recognized me, and I hadn't seen him since he owned The French Quarter way back in the day. lol I highly recommend this restaurant, hell I drove all the way from the other side of town just to eat there.

Delicious catfish
Kurt P.

Four for dinner the other evening. They don't have a huge menu, but the selections are unusual (catfish, frog legs) and they are done so nicely. And the prices are not crazy, considering the quality of the food. I tried the catfish for the first time. It comes fish-fry style with more fries than I could possibly eat. The fish was perfectly breaded and fried, really enjoyed it. They have some nice pasta dishes which a couple of our guests ordered and really enjoyed. The service was good - our waitress got us our drinks and checked on us while we were having our entrees. The ambiance is a bit odd - kind of dark, velvet-backed seating, etc. I suppose to emulate the opulence of the French Quarter. Just be aware that it is not brightly lit. Great quality food at non-extortion prices. We will return regularly.

Drunken Angel
Lily M.

Hands down the best pasta I've ever had, no exaggeration. The drunken angel is creamy, savory and absolutely mouth watering. I'm still craving it. All the dishes we tried were so good. Our start of the charbroiled oysters was an amazing choice. They were perfectly flavored and served warm. The hush puppies were crispy but not dry, with a lil spice to them. My parents loved both their dishes as well! Highly recommend trying them if you make a visit to Tuscan! We were sat outside due to how busy it was (was still beautiful) but if you want inside come at an odd time of day or make a reservation. Our server was amazing too, very informative and attentive! Let us know all the specials and was very kind and warm!

Beer Battered Catfish
Brian B.

Colorful southern restaurant with kind, warm, friendly staff. The catfish was succulent, savory, lightly battered and perfectly crisped golden. Hand cut fries were also cooked to perfection and covered in fresh herbs. Local wine offerings and an incredibly creative menu made it tough to choose!

The eclectic decor was the best thing about this place. My guy and I tried Guedry's Gumbo and added shrimp. We love gumbo normally, but this wasn't anything special. It was very peppery, heavy on the rice vs protein, and very unmemorable. The hush puppies it came with were really nicely cooked and had a good crisp to them. I enjoyed the gumbo only when dipping the hush puppies in them. For dessert, we tried the Pickle Berry Pie since we had never heard of anything like that before. Every bite was a punch of flavor and not in a good way. There was just too much going on and it became overwhelming after the 2nd or 3rd bite. Interesting to try, but I would not get it again nor recommend. This was the most expensive gumbo I've ever had and it was probably the least satisfying. Thankfully, I was not too hungry because I do not have high hopes for their other dishes.

We've been maybe three times now on various Tucson visits & had a wonderful dinner this time. Great server, Raymond, knowledgeable & around when needed. Cute interior, fun cocktails. Happy hour 3pm-6pm. We got the roasted oysters but were disappointed in them. They were not like roasted oyster we had in NO. They had some kind of a spicy creamy sauce which just overtook the oysters. Just this cream of mushroom soup-like quality, barely taste the texture of the oysters. (Go with the raw). I had the rainbow trout which was perfection, very very good. Husband had the gumbo with shrimp & hush puppies & he loved his meal--excellent! I swapped him a hush puppy for one of my potato wedges, and they were one of the best I've had. Chopped jalapeño bits & very crispy exterior.

Antarctic Salmon -

This is hands down our favorite restaurant in Tucson. Loved the vibe and the service was great. We had the salmon and the shrimp and grits. Both dishes had amazing flavors and kept you wanting more. We would eat here every night if possible. A must when in the area! Love it!

Frank R.

This was our first time at your restaurant. The food was off the chain. My wife ordered the dish with pasta, shrimp, and crawfish. I ordered the Gumbo with crawfish tails, and hush puppies. And our server was very courteous and helpful. Sorry I forgot his name. And the restaurant is decorated very nicely. We were just passing through Tucson, but if we do travel there in the future we'll definitely come back again.

Oyster po-boy and hush puppies. Delicious!
Marion R.

I haven't been here in years, but we went there today for lunch, and it was so good! The oyster po-boy and hush puppies were perfect. My husband loved his Nashville hot chicken sandwich and the side salad. I had a bite too and it was crazy spicy, but yum! Love the decor-very New Orleans! Made me want to go on a trip. The service was really good too-our server kept that Diet Coke coming.

Trout.... So tasty!
Carolyn M.

Tasty food and great service! Loved the dark decor upon entering! Ample seating both in and out.... And busy! As a frequent solo traveler, I'm used to getting seated at the bar. And usually the service is ok. But here, the service was outstanding. I strolled in after a hike thirsty and hungry. This bartender was diligent in keeping that sparkling water flowing. She's a gem. Dinner was trout and it was delicious. Perfectly cooked. Sides were great, too. 10/10. I'll definitely be back and will be sharing this spot with my coworkers.

Shrimp & Grits with Sausage
Barbara S.

The meal was spectacular! Our table had the Hot Legs Le' Jean, Cornbread, Johnny Steak & Frites, Shrimp & Grits with sausage and Bread Pudding! So yummy!! Service was also wonderful. I would've given five stars but honestly, the place was quite warm inside.

Shrimp and grits (one of the best meals I've ever eaten)
Chelsea J.

Still a 10/10. The service is the best, the food is incredible. I tried the mussels for the first time and they were fresh, bursting with flavor, and the portion size was huge. I also got my favorite meal there, shrimp and grits, and learned you can split it between 2 plates and each person gets a full size of collards. There are very few tables so make a reservation because they're almost always booked up.

This restaurant has jazz every Sunday afternoon from 2-5p.m. Absolutely incredible musicians and singer! The crowd was festively dressed and happy and truly enjoying this music. I had the Old Forester 1920 whiskey- 1 Oz and that was plenty! The bartender served us water as well as we had sat up at bar. The was professional and quite efficient. Before we left, I asked bartender what I could get to bring home for my dog- thinking he would laugh at me, but he told me he does same for his dog and that he eats better than him. As someone who frequented this restaurant for the last few years, I had a firsthand look at how things were run, and in my experience management operated very unprofessionally. It ultimately pushed me to stop supporting this business, and based on those experiences, I can no longer recommend it. There are far better BBQ options out there. From what I personally witnessed, the owner, David, was consistently disrespectful toward employees and created a company culture that I don't believe deserves support. Also important to note that there is something up with the drains/ sewer system in this building and about once a week the entire dining room smells like a sewer leak.. gross

Amazing dining experience…read more My friend and I had not been here and made reservations and ended up coming early and they were able to accommodate us. Told us about specials We're both sober and the mocktail options were phenomenal! I actually got two of the same type of mocktail which I rarely do. We shared the bruschetta which has an amazing flavor profile from sweet, salty, spicy. The menu said it had pepperoncini on it and when I think of pepperoncini I think of the bright yellow peppers which the peppers in the photo were definitely an elevated version if not homemade or sourced from a higher quality place, but the flavor on them was amazing. They offered for us to add an extra toast since we were splitting it between the two of us, so that way we had an even amount. I opted for the steak and my friend had a shrimp dish and we were just talking about how I'm allergic to shrimp but I can be around it. I just can't eat it and the waitress was kind enough to let me know the steak was marinated in an oyster sauce, ahead of time so that couldn't be changed and that attention to detail. I really appreciate it. I am not allergic to all shellfish just shrimp and lobster so that was kind of her to double check on my allergy. The steak was cooked to perfection and extremely flavorful. I really liked the salad as well. The coconut mochi cake was really the star of the show here it was a well done, toasted coconut flavor with a soft, moist cake and homemade whipped cream and sauce. We made sure to save room for dessert. I really loved this place maybe for a special occasion as it is more on the pricey side, but honestly, the level of ingredients, quality, attention to detail really stands out for the cost here the waitress even even boxed up my leftovers and held onto them so they wouldn't crowd our table. Phenomenal restaurant overall I can't wait to return and see what other items they will have further on.

That whole St. Philip's area always has a great energy, and UPH is a big part of that. There's usually a crowd, live music or sports on, and it feels like one of those places where you can bring friends from out of town and know it'll be a fun time. Food is consistently solid. The grilled chicken sandwich is my go-to and it's good every time. We both usually get one, and a lot of the time we'll add buffalo wings, which are some of our favorites in Tucson. Good flavor, good texture, and always reliable. If anything, the wings could always use a little more sauce, but they're still one of the better orders on the menu. The only real issue, and it happens pretty often, is the service speed. Everyone there is friendly, but the place always feels understaffed, especially when it's busy. We've had multiple times sitting outside in the Arizona heat where it takes 15-20 minutes just to get water to the table, and you start wondering if you should go up to the bar yourself to get things moving. Once service gets going everything is fine, but getting that first round of attention can take longer than it should for how often this place fills up. Even with that, we keep coming back. The food is consistent, the atmosphere is great, and the plaza has a real sense of community that makes it easy to hang out there for a while. Places are successful because they stay the course and do what they do best. Today we went with the four meat platter, perfect amount for two people, brisket, pulled pork, turkey and sausage. With four side of coleslaw, mac and cheese, potato salad and cornbread. All meats are still sauced unless requested "on the side", but not so much to overwhelm the meat taste. Juicy flavorful pulled pork. Delicious smoked turkey. Brisket was just slightly dry but the sauce and nice bark made it enjoyable. The sausage was AMAZING, juicy and packed with flavor. Coleslaw in my opinion, could use a little more "wetness" but it was still delicious. What can I say about the mac and cheese and potato salad, people from the south, Texas to the Carolina's just know how to get it done. The "Texas Sweet Tea", if you are a diabetic do not drink, however this is a true southern tea, it's done the same all across the south, sugar with some tea thrown in. Four meats, four sides and two drinks with tip $50, not bad for two people, I've definitely spent more for food that didn't even come close to this. Once again Smoky Mo you did not disappoint.
