We were doing an overnight on the Queen Mary and decided to have breakfast at the Promenade before leaving. They had a typical breakfast menu but also a breakfast buffer, which my wife and I decided to do. There was a small wait for a table but we soon got one of the many window tables. The buffet was a little pricey and not very extensive. There were the usual scrambled eggs, sausage, potatoes, etc. There was also a good selection of fruits and pastries. All in all, it was a decent buffet and we left satisfied. I would guess that the only people at the restaurant were likely staying there as we were, since, as good as it may be, I don't think coming here for a breakfast would seem to be a logical option. read more

Had an overnight stay at the Queen Mary and didn't want to venture off the ship. The cafe is one of the restaurants on ship and I was able to make a reservation within a short timeframe via Open table. When we arrived, we were promptly seated a table with scenic views. I wasn't expecting much food wise but I was pleasantly surprised. I ordered the spinach dip and fish tacos. The spinach dip was abundant, enough for a group, delicious and cheesy with chunks of artichokes. The tacos were flavorful and filling. There was a kids menu and my daughter ordered a grilled cheese sandwich and fries and it was substantial for a kid. We really enjoyed our meals and I thought pricing was fair for what was served. Since dinner was so good, I also made a reservation for breakfast the next day that didn't disappoint. Our breakfast was quite good. There was a breakfast buffet going on but I wasn't famished so I went with the ala carte menu. I ordered the avocado toast and it came with fresh greens and soft boiled egg. My daughter ordered the kids waffle with berries and ate all of it. Staff at both visits were friendly and attentive in refilling our drinks. Re-visited the Promenade Cafe aboard the Queen Mary for Valentines day and as usual did not disappoint. We were seated quickly and had a nice table with a beautiful view of the harbor and the Downtown Long Beach skyline. Our server Savannah was so personable, friendly and her A+ customer service truly made our dinning experience a memorable one. The standard fish and chips that were ordered came out hot and fresh and was simply delicious. I was also impressed with the side salads freshness. The Promenade Cafe has fantastic service and amazing views. It was a beautiful sunny day overlooking the shores of Long Beach from the 4th level/deck/floor of the Queen Mary with bae. Our server was amazing, a one woman show and the other gentlemen on duty who helped bring out a few things, refill our drinks and clear our table was just a friendly, thoughtful and attentive. The food and drinks are enjoyable for sure with a lot of vegetarian and vegan friendly dishes clearly labeled. Salads, Soups, Appetizers/Starters, Sandwiches, Chef Suggestions, Desserts and Entrees. They have the VG (vegan), V (vegetarian) and GF (gluten-free) notes on the menu with quite a bit of options falling into each. I'd love to see a vegan friendly dessert, sandwich and Chef's recommend item in the future, but more than grateful for all they do offer. Babe ended up with the grilled quesadilla and he loved every bite! I ended up getting the Farmer's Market Salad, which I found out after that it had real feta, at first we couldn't tell because the texture was unique, but then it was obvious lol... I found this beyond super strange because they offer non-dairy/vegan cheese here and it even comes on their pasta primavera entree... Everything else is labeled perfectly on the menu so not sure what's going on with that. We had a close to perfect lunch here. All the tables were full by the time we were done. Plenty of Sunday Funday and weekend lunchers/brunchers enjoying various cocktails including some espresso martinis a table over. We had to pre-pay a $15 per person voucher than went back to our meal, it's a smart incentive to make sure people actually dine in. And the cafe can/will also validate your parking. Free Wi-Fi for the ship, that seems to work in the cafe as well. Restrooms are super clean and toward the far end the dinning area. Everything was/is well made, reasonable and thoughtful. We even got some great photos of the view and our Promenade Cafe experience. Definitely will be back and if I have the Farmer's Market Salad I'll make sure to sub the feta for their vegan cheese... Though their Organic Carrot Hummus, Avocado Toast (hold the 7-minute egg for this guy) and primavera all sound just as intriguing for next time. read more

We haven't been on the Queen Mary since my husband's office had their Holiday dinner at Sir Winston's years ago. We arrived at the Queen Mary via Circuit, which is a free service that we use often when our destination isn't walkable. I highly recommend Circuit!!!! We checked in and were told we needed to purchase $15 tickets that would be charged back to our dinner bill. Sure, no problem. We headed up the elevator to the 4th floor where the Promenade Cafe is. There was a wedding party that had taken over the Observation Bar, so we opted to be seated at our table...which has a better view than the bar. The bar's view is the parking lot. We ordered the Angus Beef Burger ($23), New England Clam Chowder ($14), Grilled Corned Beef Reuben ($20). Everything was delicious, but seriously...their french fries are so good! Crispy and crunchy on the outside and tender and fluffy on the inside. Service was amazing. I don't typically leave negative reviews. I understand that restaurants are more likely to receive complaints than praise, and if I have a less-than-great experience, I usually let it go. However, this experience was serious enough that I feel it needs to be shared, both as a warning to others and as feedback to the restaurant. Our evening started with unexpected costs. We had to pay for parking, and then pay a $15 per person entrance fee to access the ship before even getting to the restaurant. For our family, that was $45 just to walk in the door. While surprising, we decided to move forward because our daughter was excited about the experience of dining on the Queen Mary. When we arrived at the restaurant, we waited about 15 minutes just to put our name down and were quoted an hour wait, which we understood given the holiday weekend. After waiting over an hour without receiving a call, I checked back with the hostess, who seemed to realize we had been overlooked and seated us immediately. There was no apology or explanation. Once seated, it took another 15 minutes before anyone greeted us or offered drinks. We ordered appetizers and entrées and specifically asked that our daughter's pasta be brought out as soon as it was ready. The server agreed. The appetizers arrived. Then the adult entrées arrived. Still no child's meal. We had to flag someone down to ask about it. It eventually came out, but by that point we had already been waiting quite some time with a hungry child. The food itself was mediocre at best. Nothing memorable, fairly bland. The most concerning part of our experience happened later that night. In the middle of the night, my five-year-old became violently ill with vomiting and severe gastrointestinal distress that continued for hours. A few hours later, I experienced the exact same symptoms. We were the only two in our family who became sick, and the only food we shared that day was the buttered noodles. I understand that foodborne illness can sometimes be difficult to trace with certainty, but the timing and shared dish are concerning. Proper food handling is critical, especially when serving children. The experience was not only physically awful but also heartbreaking as a parent to watch your child suffer. We spent close to $200 between parking, entrance fees, and dinner for what was meant to be a special outing. Instead, it turned into one of the worst restaurant experiences we've ever had. I know there are a lot of haters on this place, but the prices are pretty reasonable based on the quantity of food that you get, the quality of food, and the high level of service. I had the French dip sandwich with au jus and french fries. Fries were beer battered, crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside and still piping hot from the kitchen. My wife got the avocado toast and it was heaping with high quality avocado, arugula and a perfectly cooked egg on top. Just check out the photos. We felt very taken care of by our server, our food came out within 10 min (maybe less) everything was served on luxury ceramic dinnerware, and you get to stare out on a dreamy vista of LB historic skyline with boats gently passing back and forth. It feels very fancy to be there. Something else to consider is that with the price of your meal, your parking is free and you get free entrance to the ship. So feel free to stay and walk around all the decks and have a drink at the observation bar. You don't have to pay another admission. You do have to make a reservation on open table ahead of time, then you show that to the people on the first floor before entering the elevators to the ship to get onboard. We had a great meal and a great morning walking around the decks of the historic Queen Mary taking photos. It may take a little coordination in making your reservation ahead of time and bringing your parking ticket up with you to be validated, but if you can handle a few logistical steps, it is actually one of the better deals in the city. read more

We came to spend some time in Long Beach and stopped at one of our favorite places the Queen Mary while here we decided to book a reservation. We booked the reservation at 7:45 as it was the earliest available. and got there around 5pm. Since we had our toddler we asked if we could be seen earlier. The host said the earliest they can take us was 7:30. When we came back they were ready for us and I did see a couple of tables empty which I wish they would've let us know since it was late and we still had to drive back to San Diego. People who were coming in with no reservation only had to wait an hour from 5pm which I thought was a little unfair. However our waitress was really kind. We ordered our food and it was delicious! The Promenade Cafe is a nice alternative if you don't want to pay a lot for the AYCE buffet. The food wasn't spectacular, but it was decent. Some dishes (out of 9 in our party) were really tasty like the Beef Short Ribs platter and the Short ribs grilled cheese. The salad that came with the dish was amazing w/ the vinaigrette dressing! The Fried Chicken Sandwich and the Smokestack Cheesesteak was dry and could use more aioli sauce, so make sure to ask for more. The pricing is about right given the current pricing in the industry. The menu offers a good selection for various palletts. The service was great and our server Meagan was very friendly and accommodating. The actual restaurant itself can use some updating and a good cleaning. For example, the wall paper is coming off in some areas and the tables are not wiped down well (edge of the table had a lot of old stuck on food). I came here with two friends for a quick bite to eat since we were onboard the Queen Mary. It was fairly empty (past peak lunch time), and we had a lovely view of the ocean. We weren't too hungry except for me, but they were gracious enough to let us sit and have some drinks (a Shirley temple and a cocktail) and for me to have their New England clam chowder. Went to check out Dark Harbor at the Queen Mary the other night, but we needed to pregame with did and drinks, so we hopped on the ship and visited the Promenade Cafe. We were sat immediately, as it wasn't busy, and had seeting at the windows overlooking Long Beach across the water. Our server was quick to come to us, give us recommendations as well as take out drink orders. We tried a few controls, the Cruise to Nowhere, which sounds tasty with peach syrup and Chambord, but it ended up treating like Robitussin for some reason. The Shore Leave Spritz was nice and refreshing. The Aviation was also interesting but could have had the flavors pop a little more For food, we all tried something different. The clam chowder is good, but the bowl isn't very big, you definitely feel like you need more with it. The fish and chips are cooked well, but it feels pretty basic overall. The meatballs also felt like they needed a little more flavor and seasoning. My first time coming here when it is not spooky in October lol it was absolutely beautiful for my grandma's birthday lunch. The food did take a while maybe about 40 minutes, but the manager made it right and comped all of our drinks. It was a new cook so they were getting used to the rhythm and flow of the tickets. Of course the ambiance is spectacular and as the old adage goes that means the food seldom follows suit. The venue boasts an impressive view of the Long Beach shore line. The meal l had was the Reuben Sandwich. Unfortunately it was prepared incorrectly. The meat was grilled therefore very dry and flavorless. There was barely any sauerkraut. The meat is best prepared this way: In a non-stick saute pan cook the sauerkraut, vinegar and brown sugar over medium high heat until the liquid has evaporated, about 3 minutes. Therefore the meat is juicy sweet and tangy. The most stupendous part of this meal was the fried potatoes, uniquely prepared. My husband had fish and chips and this dish was well prepared. The service was adequate our server was kind and attentive. The cocktail W60, was okay but I am not compelled to order it again, Overall, l'd stick to less exotic fare and the same for the cocktails. read more

We didn't reserve but were asked to wait about 30 minutes, but were seated in about 10. We were immediately greeted by two servers. Everyone is so nice and friendly. We ordered two signature cocktails and as our maitre d' recommended the Reuben, we ordered that from the very nice menu offering many choices. We wanted an appetizer and dessert so we decided to share and that was a good thing! The sandwich was huge and amazingly made with real corned beef, not pastrami which is the West Coast standard. And it was delicious and so nice to have that change. The fries are great, thick and fluffy. Our appetizer was the hot spinach artichoke dip with bread toasts. So good, but such a large serving, we couldn't finish. For dessert we had the marscapone cheesecake with berries. So good! As we approached to say "hello", she said "hi! Let me know if you would like a table" she didn't remember us from 20 minutes ago. The service was disorganized to say the very least. Mo came out to apologize, she said she wasn't the manager, but listened to us, which we appreciated. We ended up just getting our drinks, and leaving without eating. Our three daughters, their spouses and six grandkids had the best time. Decent prices especially for the atmosphere, good quantity, decent service, OK quality of food. The Promenade Cafe is the casual sit-down restaurant at the Queen Mary, located on Deck 4. Surface parking at the Queen Mary is metered, costing $25 for an hour or more, but gets reduced down to $10 with validation. Even though it is not particularly busy, you need to make a reservation online via OpenTable. The email confirmation can then be used to get an entry ticket into the Queen Mary, which allows you to tour the boat on your own. We got to the boat a bit early so we slowly walked through the ship's deck 4 and the upper sundeck. There are many picture opportunities, with the Long Beach skyline in the background. And the nearby Observation Bar provides an outdoor area to mingle while sipping a pre-dinner drink. The indoor dining area of the Cafe is a long corridor, with seating on both sides. At the back of the restaurant, the doors leads to the back of the finer dining restaurant on the Queen Mary (Chelsea Chowder Bar), so thinking both share the same kitchen. We got a nice table next to a window (square porthole?). Water was given, though wish it had been refilled more often. We shared a cocktail (Cruise to Nowhere $15), which was quite good and strong. For entrees, we kept it simple. The French Dip ($22) came on a long and very crispy french roll, with decent amount of chopped beef (prime rib) and a decent au jus (no cheese or the promised horseradish sauce). We chose the side of sidewinder fries, which I love and there was plenty of it...just wish it was hotter. Both were served lukewarm and came with a good pickle spear. The other choice was the Corned Beef Reuben ($18): same situation where the bread was decent (supposed to be a rye but don't think it was...looked/tasted like a rustic white), but the corned beef was the 'chipped' kind, not the deli sliced. It was a large sandwich in area, but not very thick (because of the lack of meat)...and could hardly taste the cabbage. The side for this was the other choice of pre-dressed salad, which wasn't bad...though it had gotten limp since it had been sitting around a bit fully dressed. So the prices are lower than you would expect at a tourist attraction or a hotel restaurant, and since it allows access to the Queen Mary with the corresponding views and sights, we thought it was worth it. read more

I stayed overnight at the Queen Mary this past Saturday so I got to have both dinner and breakfast here - spot on both times! Our servers were always so sweet! Especially our female server on Sunday who also gave us good recommendations for ship activities. When we made the reservation, we let them know that we were celebrating a birthday and both times the servers were sweet enough to bring out dessert! Our dinner server on Saturday even brought out a candle. I was BEYOND happy with their service. Apart from that, the food was also really good. I had the breakfast burrito on Sunday and I think a chicken sandwich with a salad on Saturday, yum! Drinks were also great and the views were fantastic. Our tables were wobbly... no table cloths - felt like we were at a church potluck. There was no music - so it was really quiet and awkward to over hear everyones conversations around us. (And there were only 3 other parties around us but they still sat us closely together, my guess was b/c we all shared the same server) Our server was much too casual for my taste... altho a really nice guy. But again I was expecting a little something more on the formal side based on the pricing of the menu. All of that shared - the food was incredible. It made up for everything the ambiance and server lacked... I was blown away by the dishes. My older kids had the adult spaghetti and meatball dish - my youngest had a kids burger and fries. My mom had the chicken quesadilla and I had the short rib. Every single dish was uniquely served and beautifully plated. Every dish tasted amazing. Outstanding job to the cooks in the back! Would I come back.. maybe - maybe not. It was really cool to say we ate on the Queen Mary but I would likely try another restaurant on the ship before coming back to this one.
