We were lucky enough to get a table by the window across from the bar so lots of opportunities for people watching! We started with the soup of the day which was a lobster and corn chowder - excellent! We split the large lobster salad sandwich on Portuguese bread - toasted. I wanted to bring my mom to the Cape because she had never been there beforehand. So when we stayed at the small village of Falmouth, I knew that I wanted to have her experience the quaintness of a New England seaside town. We only came upon The Quarterdeck Restaurant because two other restaurants along Main Street had a half-hour to an hour wait time, and we were extremely hungry. When we walked into The Quarterdeck Restaurant, we immediately sat down. Presto. Immediately, we knew that we came to the right place. Can I just RAVE about the lobster roll only? This was the best lobster roll sandwich that I had ever tasted. That's it. End of review. (hahaha) Look, I'm sure that The Quarterdeck Restaurant has survived for so many years because their food is simply out-of-this-world and no nonsense. My husband and I visit the area this time every year. We love the off season right before Summer. When deciding on a dinner location this year we wanted to go "Old School" and we chose The Quarterdeck since it was one of our first dates over 26 years ago. We were hopeful and pleasantly surprised how busy it was and seemed to be filled with many locals. Always a good sign. We were greeted quickly and brought to a table in the back. We love the ambiance there. Service was wonderful but only to be topped by the amazing food. We had a delightful server and enjoyed conversations of Falmouth and Plymouth. My husband had the scallops with sweet potato fries and both were delicious. Maybe the best sweet potato fries we have had. I ordered the NY Sirloin that comes with fried onions as a garnish and a demi glace with 2 sides of your choosing. I selected the side salad with Blue Cheese Dressing and Mashed Potatoes. The salad was large for a side salad, filled with fresh veggies; and as a blue cheese lover, I was giddy that the dressing had blue cheese in it, plus additional blue cheese crumbles on the side. The steak was beautifully cooked with a nice sear and sliced, and placed on the delicious potatoes and surrounded by the most delicious demi glace. I will be dreaming about this meal for a very long time. On a service note, it was a pleasure to observe the staff all working together throughout the dining room. We went on a Thursday night around 6:30pm, and were told it would be about 45 minutes, which was fine we went and browsed Main Street during the meantime. We were seated at a nice secluded table by the stained glass and our waitress was very attentive. The ambience in this place is really cozy. We got the clam chowder, strawberry arugula salad, stuffed quahog, Atlantic salmon, and steamers. I was a little worried when I got the clam chowder because it looked really liquidy but the consistency was actually fine and the flavors were good. The arugula salad was good, but in my opinion the cheese was unnecessary, especially to the amount they put on. The stuffed quahog was really tasty, it was only my second ever and the first was apparently a really bad representation so I had to rely more on my dads reports to which he stated maybe a bit above average. It is very rare that I'm able to enjoy soft shell crab. This place has a gluten-free rice crust, and it was absolutely delicious. My husband enjoyed stuffed lobster. I had steamed lobster. Now 40 years later whenever my family visits for a weekend of cemetery upkeep and sightseeing its a MUST do for lunch or dinner. Always welcoming, excellent food and ambiance. This place is awesome. We're a band who flew in from California to play at the Barnstable Fair and were looking for a place to have some great seafood. From the moment we came in we received exemplary service, the best on our trip. Our server Molly went above and beyond, fulfilling all our requests and even splitting the bill by the way everyone split their food. I had the clam chowder and the fish sandwich. The chowder was just the one I was looking for on this trip; it was creamy, delicious, and with the oyster crackers. The sandwich was excellent too; the fish was moist and tender, lightly crusted, and the fries were crispy. I topped it off with half a Flourless Chocolate Decadence, which I split with someone else and which along with my decaf was the perfect way to end my meal. This is a lovely restaurant. The ambiance was nice, the staff great, and good live music playing. The lobster roll is a poorly-made ripoff. Imaging serving a $45 lobster roll with dry, unbuttered, toasted (not grilled) bread - not a roll but indeed two extremely dry flat pieces of toast. Awful for any sandwich. The lobster itself was plentiful, but in huge chunks, so one could not hold the sandwich to eat it. No special prep or taste Just had to ditch the dry bread and eat the lobster with knife and fork. Nothing else on it - no greens, no butter or mayo spread on the bread. I could not imagine any sandwich made with less care. And at a premium price! Really felt ripped off. At least the fries were hot. But watch out - it didn't even include coleslaw, which is extra with a $45 dry, awful lobster roll. read more

A few years ago I did a review on quarter deck and I didn't think the experience was great. But I just went to Quarterdeck the other night. I had the best experience I've had in Falmouth mass in a long time. My wife decided to call ahead and an hour later we were told to come in with a very large party. It was like herding cats and we were a little late but when we got to the quarter deck The host was very gracious and once we had a party together we were seated. The service was unbelievable the food was exceptional and the ambience was like having a banquet in the bottom of the USS Constitution. It was a lot of fun. I will have to go with five for the encounter was vibrant and alive. Oysters were great! And we are ones to tell, for certainly, with fresh oysters, it is all in the swell. The main dishes were solid but the sides were just average. We started with steamers and they were fresh, hot, and had no sand. The tuna special came with a chili sauce and it was fresh and cooked nicely. The rice it came with was a sticky rice and it was great. We had a French dip special sandwich and it was also great. It came with a nice dipping sauce that wasn't too salty. The coleslaw needed a little more dressing and the Mayo base had an odd flavor. The mashed potatoes were made with real potatoes and weren't overly buttered and creamed. The salad was fresh and was mostly frisée. The Parmesan dressing was good. read more
