    Pepperoni Pizza

Hits the spot after a night out! Although, I wouldn't make the trek if you weren't already in the area. Staff was very friendly. Is quite expensive though for a slice. I paid around $20 for two pepperoni slices and a gatorade. It's a solid slice of pizza, especially drunk, but nothing mind blowing.

Veggie breakfast sandwich with breakfast potatoes

I'm so grateful this place is just around the corner from my office. David, the owner, is such a kind, genuine, hardworking guy and you can tell he really cares about what he's serving. The pizza is always delicious and filling. They recently started doing breakfast and it's really, really good. The avocado toast is a 10/10. My coworkers are obsessed with the breakfast veggie sandwich and the Sicilian eggs (which come with breakfast potatoes... do yourself a favor and order a side of potatoes, they're so good). The bagels with egg are also amazing, and somehow the way the eggs are cooked makes them taste insanely good. The Slice is always a consistent, quick, and delicious option for lunch (and now breakfast!!). This is a small local business worth supporting.

best late night pizza spot in sf, the owner has been operating this place for over 20 years and is incredibly sweet. this is actually the best pizza ive had in san francisco. the box is so adorable and cute. the crunch can be heard from a mile away. made with LOVE, support your small local poc owned business

This place is definitely a hidden gem! It is in back of Safeway on Market but not that visible from a main street. I saw it while trying to park my car and decided to give it a try. Thankfully, they sell slices ! I ordered a cheese and it was delicious! The crust was cooked perfectly and it had a very nice taste! I would definitely come back when I'm in the area

Too Good to Go - Saved a meal
    Elaine Y.

Saw The Slice Pizza on Too Good to Go at the end of the night and it was really close to where I had parked so why not save some food since I was already there. The listing was $4.33 after fees so to get 2 slices was a good deal (probably about $11 normally) considering the size of the slices (about 1.5x an average slice). Today (next day), I decided to reheat a vegetarian slice using a skillet and all looked good initially. I even zhushed it up with some fresh shaved parm. What I didn't expect was a very poorly seasoned pizza. Just no flavor on any level...! I had to add flakey salt, hot sauces, and additional spices to make it more palatable. I also didn't eat the crust (and if you read my other pizza reviews, you'll know how much I love crusts!) I guess if you have late night munchies, The Slice Pizza can meet that need but I don't think it'll be a preferred pizza joint.

    House Special Pizza
    Mike C.

I wanted a snack so I came here for a slice of pizza, I ordered the house special and I was flabbergasted that it was $7-$8. For that price I thought it would at least have quality ingredients, turns out I was wrong, the sauce tasted like it was school cafeteria pizza and the toppings were equivalent to frozen pizza ingredients. Never coming back again

The pizza is nothing crazy in the daytime most likely but after a night out it absolutely hits the spot! ~$5 gets you a big greasy slice heated up quickly. I gave it 5 stars mostly because of the owner (?) though. He was really friendly and brought all of us cups of water and also gave a homeless man sitting outside some pizza as well. Little acts of hospitality like that are getting rarer these days!

    Mushroom Pizza and Cheese Pizza

I recently stopped by this small pizzeria / restaurant when I went to pick up a TooGoodToGo order. To first describe this place, there is some curbside seating and the locale is well located in the Castro. It's a very casual hole in the wall place, but yet one that I think I would go to for one or two slices. As the restaurant was almost closing, I didn't get the full experience, but I can say that the people behind the counter were kind and friendly as well as super welcoming. With regards to the food, I thoroughly enjoyed the two slices that I got as a part of my TooGoodToGo order (for those who don't know the app and its premise, it allows restaurants to sell food that they would otherwise throw out near the EOD to consumers at a discounted price). My slices were a cheese slice and a mushroom slice. Now, if you have read one of my other reviews, you would know that I usually avoid mushrooms. However, I couldn't here, so I tried it. I was pleasantly surprised by the taste (really did like it) and the cheese slice was great. The slices were a good size and I would come back if I were ever in the area. Throw some cheese and red chili flakes on that and it's even better. The restaurant does have a menu with much more options than the signs that are up in the pizzeria. I have included pictures of the updated menu below. I would return for some of the other types of food offered here since it's reasonably priced and in a close enough proximity

Casual pizza place in the Castro. Normally 100% takeout, but during the pandemic they have curbside seating. They offer a variety of pizza, sandwiches, salads, and appetizers. They also offer slices, but I wouldn't recommend them. They are kept warm for hours at a time and dry out. Unlike NY pizza and the other places in the Castro that keep slices at room temp and heat to order. The service is friendly.

After working 8 hours with no lunch yet, I just wanted to walk, get some fresh air and a slice of pizza before heading back to the hospital to finish the next couple of hours of work up. The walk was nice since this spot is in close proximity to the Davies campus of CPMC. The restaurant is tiny and they make use of all space in very creative ways (the ladder that they pulled down to get supplies from over the register was interesting. It didn't seem to be the cleanest place, though. I simply wanted mushroom and they told me they had cheese or combo and one slice of mushroom ( I was starving and wanted two;) I always thought that most slice places can add toppings to cheese pizza but maybe not..... So I got a mushroom slice and one with mushroom and pepperoni and walked back to the hospital. Im sure this pizza hits the spot after the bar but it really didn't hit the spot for my lunch today that I was willing to use up most of my daily calories for - ha- it was the only meal of the day- some days are just like that. For close to $5 a slice I really would've liked more sauce, better cheese and mushrooms that weren't so so thin. The pepperoni was quite greasy for my taste , but several paper towels soaked up most of it.

Guy at that counter was friendly and worked efficiently. After we ordered, it took 10 minutes to get our slices and we ate immediately. The slices were above room temp (so I know it was reheated), but it nowhere near hot. The dough is very thick, but had a very soft chew and zero crunch. The garlic and clam was a great taste, but it's hard to enjoy what essentially felt like a slice of focaccia that was reheated for 15 seconds in a microwave. Again, I have to believe something was terribly wrong with our order, especially after looking at the reviews and seeing the Dave Portnoy review. Maybe it was placed in a cold oven? Maybe someone put a bunch of slices in the oven at different times and accidentally pulled out the newest addition to the oven and served it to us?? Is it all hype??!! Either way, our trip is too short make a second go to sort it out.

Unfortunately, there ended up being an issue with part of our order, but before we even had the chance to say anything, the team had already taken care of it for us. That honestly stood out to me more than anything. There was no awkward back and forth, no need for us to complain or ask for anything. They noticed something wasn't up to their standard and immediately made it right on their own. That level of customer service, especially on our first visit, was such a great surprise. And the pizza itself was SO good. We ended up having the pepperoni and what I believe was a vodka cheese slice, and absolutely loved both. Great pizza, even better people, and the kind of customer service that makes you want to come back. I unfortunately didn't catch everyone's names, but huge shoutout to the team working today. The pizza has charred edges like Neapolitan which adds a nice smokey flavor. The crust has zero flop and a nice golden crust on top. Sauce has a tough of sweetness. I also enjoyed their use of fresh basil and the grated Parmigiano-Reggiano they throw on at the end. It's kinda like a new york slice, but a little gourmet? Very tasty for sure. Critiques: First off, each slice is $6-7, which is a bit steep. Maybe times have changed, but this is def not a budget meal, especially if you are eating multiple slices. Second, some of their already crispy slices have been sitting on display for some time and completely cooled down. When these slices are then reheated, there is a bit of an overcooked taste? Lastly, they only have a few topping options and the quantity of toppings on each slice (especially protein) is pretty sparse. I also ordered a slice of the Sicilian as well to mix things up. It was good, but the crust was just a touch too greasy for me.

When we arrived, our waitress didn't seem very knowledgeable about the beers, but honestly, that wasn't a big deal. My boyfriend ordered his pizza while I was still deciding what I wanted. His pizza came out very quickly, which we had no complaints about. The issue started when we had barely been seated for about 15 minutes. I went to the restroom, and while I was gone, the waitress approached my boyfriend while he literally had pizza in his mouth and a full beer in front of him and told him, "My chef said to charge you." He was confused but said okay because it made us wonder if they were closing. I checked the hours, and they weren't supposed to close until 10 PM--it was barely around 9 PM. I HADN'T EVEN ORDERED MY FOOD YET. I was still planning on ordering my own pizza, dessert, and a drink. Instead, we suddenly felt like we were being rushed to pay and leave. What made the situation even more unprofessional was that she left the payment device at our table for Apple Pay and then actually left the restaurant. She was the only server we had seen around, so we were basically left sitting there with the payment device and no server. We eventually had to get up ourselves to find someone so we could ask for boxes and return their payment device. No one had even asked whether we needed boxes, wanted anything else, or were finished ordering. My boyfriend didn't even finish his beer because at that point the entire vibe had changed and we just wanted to leave. We had driven an hour specifically to try this restaurant and were genuinely excited about it, which made the experience even more disappointing. I completely understand if a server's shift is ending, but there is a professional way to handle that--especially when customers are still actively eating and one person at the table hasn't even ordered yet. Someone could have simply explained that her shift was ending and introduced whoever would be taking over our table. Instead, we were made to feel like we needed to pay and leave. Unfortunately, the service completely overshadowed the experience. We really wanted to like this place, but being treated this way after driving an hour to come here was extremely disappointing and unprofessional.
