I think I know why my husband insists coming here. It's a total old fashioned bar atmosphere ... quiet, no loud sports playing on TV with hollering fans, no pool tables, no karaoke or live band just a quiet dark bar with completely open windows with patio seating and gas heaters good for when you want to have a conversation without yelling at everyone's ear. I've been here a several times at different days of the week and although it's not bad I just don't care for darks very much and they don't serve plates... Came here after our late dinner nearby, it was open seating, we chose a comfy tall booth to hang for the night. This is one of the many bar and restaurants on Promenade, obviously a popular bar hopping stop, saw many ppl coming in and grabbing a few drinks throughout the entire night. This is more of a whiskey bar, lots of whiskey selections. However I still decided on my usual Goose vodka Lemon drop martinis, they were seriously the best ones I have ever had, so tasty and refreshing but extremely strong! Hubby's vodka and gin martini was good too. Later on we ordered spinach and artichoke dip to snack on, the dip was a little too creamy and heavy, but it was the perfect drinking food though. After Moscow mule and dark beer, we called it a night, it was very relaxing and laid back. This place was not too crowded either, liked the juke box background music, it seemed vintage, and I liked that a lot. Our server was more than friendly and very attentive, drink prices were fair. If you wanna feel classy, this is the place to be. It almost has a speakeasy feel to it. On a weekday night for happy hour, the place was pretty quiet, we eventually were the only people there. Apparently the bar starts becoming more lively after 9p. I grabbed a Moscow Mule since it was on the happy hour list. Served in a copper mug (and what? I don't have to give you my ID for insurance that I'll return the mug? Lol), it was friggin refreshing and delicious! I had to have a second one :) The happy hour food selection was pretty meager unfortunately, wish there were more options... We did share a margherita pizza, it was pretty solid. I had this mango seltzer (at least I think it was mango idk I was already a little sloshed at this point) that was pretty good and normally I don't like mango seltzers. Tbh I accidentally ordered it because I thought it was a cider and I was too embarrassed to say anything so I drank it. I was pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed it so much I ordered a second one. I wasn't sure if there was indoor seating yet and was pleasantly surprised to find that there was, and that the ambience was just as classy and speak-easy-esque as before. My date and I lucked out and arrived when it wasn't too busy yet and had no trouble grabbing choice seats at the bar. The Stave's menu is impressive and expansive, offering both your traditional spirit-based drinks like Moscow Mules and Whiskey Sours, as well as more exotic and less common libations. Wine and beer are also served, so there is really something for everyone. I ordered an Old Fashioned and my date ordered a Mexican Mule, both of which were delicious. The service here has always been top notch and again, did not disappoint this round. I've been coming to this whiskey bar for a few years -- it's been a while since I've been but I used to go multiple times a week and it was great. They have a great full bar with wonderful mixed drinks. red and white sangria, a large beer selection, a variety of whiskey, and I love getting the spicy jerky on the side to enjoy with my drinks. Sometimes it's fun to sit inside and watch sports, but their outside area is also great to sit and people watch. The bartenders are all very friendly and the vibe is always nice. During our trip to Long Beach, we spent a night out, and checked out a few spots on the Promenade. We dropped into Stave bar as it looked a little more chilled out than the other spots on the list. It was a nice, classy bar. The ambience and decor was really nice, and it was pretty dark in their but that seemed fitting for the environment. From the get go, we had a great experience. The bouncer and bartender were extremely nice and helpful. Its a known whiskey bar, and this is one reason I wanted to come here, but my husband and I ended up getting beers instead. They had some interesting ones on the list, and I didn't want to pass up trying something from Iceland. Great spot to try if you want something on the more chilled out side. Unfortunately we were there during a Friends-themed bar crawl, but it was still not that crazy. And, as an added plus, like most places in Long Beach, very LBGTQ friendly! read more

Okay, so I'm laying in bed. I'm sweating and I'm pretty out of breath. I just wiped globs of "web fluid" from my wife's chest. We went to see Spider-Man tonight, and after we stopped here for some absolutely amazing and spectacular cocktails. The service was tight... like some other things tonight. I sling myself from item to item, and made an amazing daredevil styled life saving decision for my spider-ho to get some neat high shelf whiskey shots. I'm not gonna lie, I'm not sure if willam dafoe spiked my already spiked drink, but we both got toasty. We licked each other's tongues all Venom style (I put my hands in her bush-y marsh) at the beautiful tables they have outside. I wish we hadn't had to walk past the ordinarie and their soft, lanky, barely only enough to grow a spider-pube boi that does the bright orange vape tube outside. I hope the cage him and sell him to Cravin' the Hunter and he dies a Wayne Gacey in him... on him. Whatever. Regardless, this ore dinner, Post spider, and amazing drink stop made us horny as hell. One of my go-to spots in Long Beach for 3 main reasons! 1. The bartenders here know what they're doing and hook up some pretty good drinks. My drink of choice, when I'm not drinking beer or wine, is a good Old Fashioned. Many places claim to have this on the menu but so few actually make it right. They have it down pretty good here along with many other cocktail creations. Btw, for all you whiskey lovers, this place has a great selection for you! 2. They have a decent sized outdoor patio with table top fire pits and it happens to be dog-friendly! Any of you following my reviews know I'm a HUGE dog lover and hardly go anywhere without my pups. So any place willing to accept my furry kids is automatically full of awesomeness by default. So if you want to grab some drinks or grub but don't have a dog sitter, Stave Bar's got you! 3. Last but not least, Stave Bar has some really good Charcuterie plates. My favorite is The Italian Board. It features Prosciutto, Sopressata and Genoa Salami on the meats side and Pecorino Romano, Gorgonzola Piccante (blue cheese) and Taleggio Defendi on the cheese side. And it comes accompanied with crackers and some honey. CHEESEUS CHRIST it's good! I have not had a chance to deviate from my usual so can't offer much insight on the rest of the food itens but from what I have seen all the food coming out of the kitchen here looks pretty tasty. Should you prefer to sit inside, there are plenty of tables and seating at the bar top. Parking can be a bit of a challenge depending on the day and time you go. Came here on a crawl with twenty people. Had one server (female and nice) take orders from everyone. I figured since we had so many people I would head to the empty bar with only three people and order my drink before their orders were placed. I sat there for fifteen minutes and nobody helped me. One of my friends joined me for an addition five minutes with no help Two girls that worked there sat at the end of the bar and socialized with each other. The guy walked past me like thirty times as he talked to the ladies he already served and the socialite employees. He made a total of two drinks in that time so it wasn't because he was busting his ass or anything. Then the following conversation took place with one of the girls: Girl (with annoyed look, tone and no greeting): "Can I get you something?" Me: "You know I have been here for twenty minutes and you have literally looked at me about fifty times and didn't bother to say hi or take my order." Girl: "So can I get you something or not?" Me: "You know, between your shitty attitude and me sitting here for so long without anyone even saying hi, we'll be with you in a second or anything; I don't think this establishment deserves my money nor do you deserve a tip." Girl: "Whatever." The bar had a total of five people once my friend joined me and three people working behind it. You do the bartender to patron math and it shouldn't take longer than one minute to at least get a greeting. This is a nice addition to the promenade and adds another option for us to go to. We were greeted quickly and the service was good. They just opened so I think you have to cut them a little break for a couple weeks (in regards to another review). My first impressions are that it feels a little fuddy duddy... I thought the clientele they would pull would be younger. Maybe it was just the night. The other thing is that I hate the juke box idea. When you look at the interior and think about what you would expect, it certainly wouldn't be classic rock blasting. I don't know what would be better for maybe some Sinatra or classier? It's for them to decide... In terms of drink options, I thought the beer list was alright on draft but some great options in bottles that you normally don't find in LA. This place has a huge selection of whiskey and i fell in love ever since the first time i visited months back. The bar tenders are highly experienced, and very friendly.
