This is a really nice coffee shop. Super comfortable and quiet for those trying to do some work. There is seating for any type of weather, from the inside next to the fireplace for those cold days, or outside on the balcony (with a nice view!) for the hot days. They are located on a church lot, but don't let that deter you from checking it out. They have several types of drinks, some pastries, a few sandwiches, and some other things that I can't remember off the top of my head. The few drinks I've had were pretty good, and I think the muffins are made daily. I'll have to try the sandwiches or something next time. I recommend this place for meeting with friends, somewhere quiet to work, or even just to relax with a cup of coffee and take in the views from the many balconies. read more

A hidden gem...wonderful coffee and friendly people in a classic coffee shop atmosphere. Will undoubtedly be back!

It's a beautiful, breathe-taking place inside out. On an elevation next to a chapel. The cafe inside has an artsy, woodsy feel. Walk upstairs for a couple patios. The big patio (although I think it technically belongs to the chapel?) has a serene atmosphere, ocean view, a beautiful gazebo, great patio furnitures, plenty of outlets! Problem is the caffe WiFi doesn't reach up here... Had to work down at the cafe which is fine but AC can get bit cold. On a Tuesday afternoon, there were little to few customers so it was very quiet. I saw flyers for Open Mic events, so I think it'll get livelier sometimes. However, I found the coffee menu basic (I wasn't looking for crazy frap but maybe something more complex like mexican mocha). They have a special pumpkin spice latte during my visit (October!), but based on my one experience, it tasted just okay and too sweet (-1 star). I might give it a 2nd chance if I'm in town. They do have a sizeable selection of food. read more

Had high expectations from the reviews.. it wasn't at all hard to find like some people mentioned. Ample parking, beautiful place!! Ordered a chai latte with almond milk, they only had soy so i settled with that. Drink was good! 3 stars because of the service! ): The girl working the bar was so rude to me. She gave me attitude when i asked for almond milk (as if i knew they didn't have any!) and when i picked up my drink from the call bar i was extra smiley to try her thinking maybe she was having an off day?? Nope, i sit down with my drink and start working. There was also a big accountability group going on in the middle of the room, it was encouraging to see that happening! Went to grab lunch with the husband. Came back to get more work done and again the girl just didn't like me i guess?! But yet everyone that came in after me was so sweetly greeted. I thought maybe they were regulars, but upon hearing their orders and her recommendations i was then sure they weren't. I went up to look at some small bites to eat about an hour later and she STILL gives me attitude and terrible customer service. So i sat back down finished my work and left. It's a shame that this place is so nice and perfect to get work done- but man, customer service is HUGE to me! Hoping management can give some pointers on basic customer service.. **BTW! Go upstairs & enjoy the GORGEOUS view with your drinks. Just be careful of when the school is out and kids are running & screaming everywhere, up and down the stairs as their moms just chat away. read more

I went here for the first time this afternoon to study. I loved this tucked away cute place! It has a really cozy feel with a nation upstairs, downstairs and great couches inside. I sat down by the fire place and then ordered the Avocado toast on Rye...I actually ordered another piece a couple hours later it was so good! It was quiet but not too quiet, people came in and out but it was never noisy. I think its the perfect place to read, catch up with a friend or study. Really love this little spot. read more

Okay... so I've been searching for this place for a while. Call me lazy but I would just drive by and check to see if it was there and it wasn't (it was), so I would keep driving by. Well, this time, I was on a mission to find it, since my brother had mentioned that it's a great spot to get some work done. My best friend and I drastically needed to get stuff done for school so we decided to give it a go. We are so glad we found it! We walked in and it was relatively quiet on a Monday early afternoon. We ordered some food and chais. I got the Mediterranean salad without cheese to make it vegan and my friend got the grilled cheese and tomato bisque. I got a chai latte with soy milk and she got a regular chai. The food was good, though the salad for the size was a bit pricey. The drink prices were pretty standard. The chai itself had a wonderful flavor and the space is cute with friendly staff and free Wi-Fi. Give it a go if you please! read more

I came here for the first time with a friend and always thought it was just a church. I fell in love with this place. Since then I have returned to have small meetings or just get work done. It's a quiet and calm atmosphere and I enjoy that there's none of the busy people traffic like at the more "popular" places nearby. I don't go to this church (or any other) and was worried about being pressured to start by staff or patrons. Hasn't happened. Everyone is very kind and professional. What a hidden gem in Carlsbad! A part of me doesn't want to leave a review so they can stay nice and quiet for when I'm there... but I love this cafe. Church setting, ample parking, and well kept. Highly recommend sitting upstairs on the roof deck! Gorgeous view and peaceful. The cafe is small and quaint. I ordered up a BLT served on Sourdough, it was okay. The Americano was smooth but not so fresh tasting. I suppose I'm spoiled from my favorite go to cafe, Revolution Roasters- their toasts and Americanos! Mmmmm Haha Overall, if you're in the neighborhood I'd recommend stopping in. read more

Disclaimer: I'm from out of town. I've only been here once. I came here with my husband one Saturday. Upon parking the first thing we noticed was how beautiful the location was. (Inside and out). It's located in a little "town" shopping area. The cafe was really clean, organized and modern! There's a ton of seating for groups & individuals. We were surprised that there was such a small amount of people here. The drinks, pastries, and sandwiches were delicious. We also enjoyed the friendly staff member. Story Caffe is a great place to relax. I was in the area and based on reviews from Yelp friends, I stopped in to get some caffeine. If I didn't know what to expect, it might have been a little difficult finding it in the church complex. The interior is perfect for quiet lounging or getting some work done. There is lots of space and a great mix of tables and sofas. The coffee offerings are pretty standard. My latte was good. They also offer an interesting mix of pastry, sandwiches and salads. read more

This cute little cafe was a wee bit tricky to find! We actually were driving on the other side of the road and didn't realize it was on the 'other' side...inside a school? It's a weird location but the cafe itself is cute with local art and goods for sale displayed throughout. What a "secret" neighborhood gem! I had a BLT that was fresh and delicious. Love the dining area with lots of seating options from leather couches to table and chairs. It's quiet (was there around 1:00 on a Friday--I imagine Sundays are a different story) feels so lodge-like and comfy. Lot's of great coffee/hot drink and dessert options. Don't be put off by the dark windows and closed doors. They are open 8 - 8! I left my first time driving by thinking they were closed (they need a "sandwich board" sign out front saying they're open or open the doors). read more

Inside the coffee shop is homey with plenty of seating, and it also has a balcony upstairs with couches and umbrella tables- with an ocean view! I ordered an iced chai latte, it was average but I still enjoyed it. I visited on a Wednesday afternoon and it was empty!!! I got a lot of work and reading done. Music does play inside but it's not obtrusive or loud! Overall I recommend. It seems to not ever be crowded! I've been here more than 5 times and the coffee is weak and rarely even hot. Even worse the employees look utterly miserable. Wednesday afternoon and spending a nice relaxed moment at The Story. picked up a basic cup of joe, didn't want anything sweet, and paid a modest $2, left a dollar tip because the barista was nice and cheerful. Spent about 30 min inside, nice decorations, a "christian" vibe exists here but it wasn't oppressive. It may have been the day and time but the place was not crowded. Later I decided to move outside and I was glad I did, many places exist outside to relax and enjoy the weather. I have not tried much of the coffee and snack offerings but the prices are good. read more

This is a cute little coffee shop on the campus of a beautiful Cavalry Chapel in Carlsbad. I think the proceeds go to the school on campus, so it sounds like it helps preschool kids at this church. The atmosphere here is lovely and there's plenty of space to find your own table and do some work or reading here. The staff is very nice and helpful. I love the friendly service. It's got excellent coffee and almost always has good space to sit and work on my laptop or meet with a friend. I tried. A few times. Old, stale, bread items, but fruit and salad were fresh and good. Very rude cook. Very nice lady last time, she was new and had to ask the cook what they had, etc, and he was not nice to her, either. He didn't greet us as we stood at the counter and made eye contact with him several times.
