    Pesto Chick salad
    Erik S.

It's New Year's Eve, and my last review of 2025 will be an update for one of the all-time greats, The Sub Spot in Greensboro. Pretty much everything I said in my last review still totally stands. I don't get to come here as much as I used to, but it's still a place I probably go once a month. My favorite thing here is still their classic reuben. While I wouldn't call it a traditional reuben, I love the way they prepare it. Chopping together the meat and kraut on the hot flat top grill, as well as the buttered and grilled rye bread and russian dressing, it's just such a tasty sandwich all combined like that. The other thing I love here is to build my own salad, especially with their pesto grilled chicken. It's always tender, and matches great with their balsamic vinaigrette. You get your choice of any toppings on the sub table, and it really makes for a filling and healthy meal packed with protein. You can't go wrong here though, and the owners are some of the nicest people in Greensboro. I always have, and always will be, a Sub Spot customer!

Getting a sandwich here when Giacomo's is a few hundred feet away seems blasphemous, but hey, at least they have indoor seating. All jokes aside, Sub Spot is a good representation of a neighborhood sandwich shop, replete with a no-frills (though clean) interior and Boar's Head meats. They may not be fancy, but they are good at what they do. I walked in craving a cheesesteak but was nearly swayed by the brisket sandwich listed as a special. Had I not known what I wanted, I would have had plenty to choose from: hot and cold sandwiches, salads, wings, kebabs, and more. They will let you customize toppings a la Subway (I added peppers, onions, and chipotle sauce), and they completed my order for takeout very quickly. Much like Jersey Mike's, Sub Spot serves up a far better cheesesteak than you'd expect at first glance. The bread was soft, the cheese melty, the meat and veggies savory and satisfying (and none too greasy). If you're accustomed to a sandwich stuffed to the gills with meat, you might be disappointed, but I didn't find the quantity to be too paltry. Given what's nearby, Sub Spot probably wouldn't be my first choice for lunch in the area, but it is convenient, reasonably priced, and tasty, a solid option all around.

My family and I have been coming here for years. It'd been a minute since I'd been here though and I pleasantly happy to find that it's just as good as it's always been. I ordered the chicken shawarma pita and it was absolutely delicious. The cucumber sauce had the perfect amount of garlic and added so much flavor. And the pita was packed! So incredibly filling. We also ordered a side of curly fries, which came with ranch. Yum yum yum!!! I'm already looking forward to my next visit.

We decided to try this sub shop today and it sure is exactly what I've been looking for since moving to the area. I ordered the pastrami sandwich with Swiss and added all the veggies with it and a side of fries.. My lunch guest ordered the Pesto chicken salad, you can pick any topping you like to top the subs and salads. Everything is made fresh and the fries were hot! That's huge for me!!!! The Bread is super fresh, Prices are reasonable and they have a few sweet offerings as well. Staff was super friendly and helpful, we will be coming back soon!

I honestly don't know how I've worked down the road in Greensboro for years, and I'm just now visiting Sub Spot. This place is incredible and they serve up some of the best varieties of subs, sandwiches, wraps, and platters I've ever had. They have menu of rotating specials of the day written on a white board, but even without that, their menu is extensive! Ranging from your classic turkey sandwich to chicken shawarma. Their prices are very reasonable and they get you in and out quickly. They do some incredible business and the staff always takes great care of you. Can't wait to try another menu item soon!

    Italian on Wheat
    Devon E.

The gem is tucked away in the shopping center off Battleground with Trader Joe's and Gold's Gym. My hubby and I had just completed a workout, so what better thing to do then get some food immediately after. Hey, we earned it. I hadn't been here before, but my husband spoke highly of it. I like sandwiches so was game. There was a good amount of people in line on a Saturday so a good sign. It's a simple restaurant. You order at the corner. Most get their subs to go, like we did, but they do have some tables if you wanna eat there. First thing I noticed was they had a lot of options. Truly a sub for any preference. They had the classics like Reuben, Meatball, and cold cuts as well as more unique offering like Buffalo Chicken Ranch and Gyro. You could come here often and try something new each time. I went classic for my first visit and got an Italian footlong on wheat. You can get a 6" or 12". I noticed that my 12" was actually going to be two 6" sandwiches. While this surprised me at first, I kind of liked it. It probably helped to motivate me to stop eating after I consumed the first one and save the other for the next day. The Italian was available cold or toasted and I could add any available toppings and sauces I wanted. They have all the standard options but some fancy extras like roasted red peppers. I got those as well as provolone, lettuce, onion, and oil and vinegar. Our subs were quickly assembled, wrapped up, and given to us to enjoy at home. The staff were efficiently and friendly. There is nothing fancy about these subs and the photos may not be the most exciting, but it was a tasty sandwich. The various meats on my Italian were good and the veggies fresh. They did not skimp on any ingredients and as I said a 6" was enough to fill me up. The other 6" also heated nicely to be enjoyed the next day. My husband got the Chicken Philly. I took a few bites and it was also good. I can see why the Sub Spot is a popular place and if you just wan't a good simple sub, it's a solid option.

Sicilian Steak and Cheese with Hot Chips
    Kaicey W.

Friendly service, fresh food, and great prices! Perfect for lunch or when you just don't feel like cooking the ingredients you purchased at Trader Joe's across the parking lot. They offer a great selection for whatever you are in the mood for and everything is cooked fresh as it is ordered. I absolutely love the fresh sub rolls and you just can't beat Boar's Head deli meats. I usually get the Sub Spot Melt but decided to branch out and try a gyro after reading some reviews mentioning the tzatziki being delicious and I have to agree, it is! The pita is toasted perfectly and loaded with gyro meat and whatever toppings you want. My husband gets the Sicilian steak and cheese and the blend of the melted cheese with peppers, steak, pepperoni and marinara is always a win. Paired with the fresh, soft bread it is one of the best steak and cheese subs I've had since moving to the area and I can see why it is one of their best sellers. The chocolate chip cookies are the perfect finish for a great meal. They're soft and loaded with chocolate with that perfectly crispy edge. I usually don't have room for it at the time but grab one to go to split later.

Turney, roast beef and bacon on sourdough (YUM!)
    Tricia B.

The staff are very friendly; I felt welcomed as soon as I stepped in the door. I was delighted when they said they offer sourdough bread as an option! Those hoagies and rolls are just too much bread for me. The sandwich was delicious. I like that almost all of their ingredients (including the tomatoes and bacon) are chopped, which makes a sandwich easier to eat in my opinion. The only thing that lost them a star was that they gave me stale red wine vinegar (I always ask for oil & vinegar, separate, on the side so that I can add (or not) as much as I want). I was so glad I'd asked them to put it on the side because if they had put it directly on the sandwich it would have been ruined. Next time I'll ask for mayo on the side as well because the young lady overdid it before I could stop her.

    Rueben
    Ryli C.

Fantastic experience here. I was in town for work and this was recommended to me for lunch on my way back to the airport. I ordered the Rueben with fries. Both were delicious. The staff was very friendly and helpful too! A little bit of a hole in the wall but those usually have the best people and food!

    The Classic Italian Sandwich
    Janis A.

Nothing better than an Italian sub with the works. It's my favorite sub and my Italian Dad would bring them home for us when we were kids. I am a Jersey girl and finding a good one down south has been a challenge. I have had some decent ones, but The Sub Spot's Italian classic is SPOT ON! Packed with all the Italian meats, I added all the accoutrements I wanted. I am an onions, lettuce, tomato and banana peppers girl with oil, vinegar and oregano. YUM. Their home cooked hoagie rolls really made a difference as well. Their menu is huge, but all I need is the Italian sub, each and every time. A piece of home in my backyard!

You've done it again Yelp! Here's another fantastic locally owned place that we wouldn't have found without you. After a morning hiking around the battlefield, we wanted quick, convenient and tasty and The Sub Spot did not disappoint! Think Subway style on steroids with a MUCH better menu and fresher ingredients. The menu was fantastic - you step up to order, then go down the line (SO many choices for salads, subs, etc!). The kid had a Turkey & cheese sub and they had his beloved black olives among other favorites of his. He was super happy. Hubby had the cheese steak and was super happy with his choice. He eats a lot of cheese steaks and is hard to please. The meat on this was juicy, without being loaded with grease. They bake their own rolls, and it shows - soft and fresh. I went with a salad and was thrilled they had everything I want in a salad - even crumbled blue cheese. The salad ingredients were super fresh and the raspberry vinaigrette was yummy, too. You can take out or eat in and they have a nicely sized, bright and clean dining room. It was the perfect stop for lunch. If I lived in Greensboro, I could easily see myself eating here several times a week.

I love Sub Spot and the family who owns it! They have a large selection of prepped meats (with delicious marinades), and veggies. The bread is baked fresh and it just smells wonderful as soon as you walk in the door! They have been following COVID protocols and the shop always appears clean. I like this sub shop more than any of the "build-your-own" type places. With the quality and variety of options, I can order a killer sub with fries, or attempt a healthier option with their generous portion of salad. The topping selection is much wider than most, so you can really customize what you want.

Chicken Philly Sandwich, fresh Hot Chips
    Nia B.

I have been coming here for years but moved away from the area recently and hadn't been back in a long time. Luckily, the friendly atmosphere and delicious food had not changed! They've added a few new menu items over the past few years which gives plenty of lunch food-type options. Everything is so fresh and delicious, I recommend this place to anyone looking for a quick lunch! The chicken philly is the perfect serving size with perfectly seasoned chicken and soft bread. They had several sandwich topping options to choose from and the fresh hot chips were made to order. Staff was very welcoming and took their time with our order which we appreciated!

The hostess was on point with her estimate and also very quick to get us seated within the promised time frame. I also found out they offer reservations, so we will use that option loving forward. First of all-service was excellent. Our waiter came to the table within a moment of being seated to get started with waters and non-alcoholic options, and was quick to check back up on us and see if we were ready or had questions. He made several great recommendations on both food and drinks. My only caveat was that my 10 oz steak was a bit on the salty side, but this may be due to the aging process. It was cooked to a beautiful medium per my request, and both my sides (asparagus and loaded baked potato) were yummy, well cooked and seasoned perfectly. My husband got a pasta with pancetta and caramelized onions, and it was absolutely delicious. Suggested wines were paired well with both entrees. We opted to get a few more drinks with dessert, and both were also very good. The bartenders are not stingy in their pours! We also split the butter cake for dessert and I will say that Paula Dean would have been proud of that cake. It was melt-in-your mouth richness paired with a slightly tangy fruit sauce, fresh berries and a tasty vanilla ice cream. The restaurant as a whole was well set up, with multiple types of seating and a large bar area. Decor was well placed and there was enough room to walk through without feeling crowded, despite how busy it was. We will absolutely be back!

We watched a couple tables around us, get their food before us, and they had been seated after us.. The server had to go back and check on our dish a couple times before it finally came out. I will say the fish and the chips were fabulous, but the corn was terrible and should probably not even be included on the dish. It was WAY overcooked and chewy. The coleslaw left quite a bit to be desired as well. No seasoning, no flavor and was just bland. We started out with cocktails. I had a Hendricks dry martini straight up (it was delicious) and my wife had a Don't Call Me Sweetie which is mix of Hendrick's Gin, Lemon, Cucumber, Basil, Simple, Saline 15. It is very citrus heavy, so be advised. She had them cut it with a bit of cranberry to offset the citrus. For main courses, my wife had the grilled salmon and she chose sautéed garlic spinach and wasabi slaw as her sides. I ordered the shrimp and grits and my side was blackened green beans. Let's talk main course first. My wife's salmon was terrific. Flaky and moist and very tasty. My shrimp and grits was unique because it was a real balance between large pieces of shrimp and the grits. Many times you'll order this dish and end up with a pile of grits with some shrimp sprinkled on top. This version is very tasty and a really nice balance of flavors. The Cajun seasonings have it some kick, but it did not overpower. The side dishes are where we had a couple of surprises. First off the sautéed spinach was really delicious, but my wife's wasabi slaw was bland. It's a huge shocker because when you see the word wasabi, you expected to have some Asian kick to it. This did not. It was hard to even identify that it had wasabi in it. That was a disappointment. The surprise was the blackened green beans. They actually were one of the stars of the show. Their flavor and texture was just awesome. We could've ordered a huge bowl of it and eaten all of it. While it didn't need it, there was a dipping aïoli on the side, just in case we wanted to add that to the green bean experience. As I mentioned off the start, Fishbones is a very casual experience. It's very pub-like in that way. We really loved it and the wait staff, which is a team approach as anyone who passes you makes sure you're doing OK, were kind, upbeat and helpful. Even with the bland slaw, we can't lower our rating because overall the experience was terrific. We will definitely come back.

The sandwich was one of those that you don't put down after a few bites. I enjoyed the food, friendly service and conversation with locals. They recommended a bottle shop connected to a laundromat not far away but we had to get back on the road. If you are in the Greensboro area Hops is worth a stop for happy hour, lunch or dinner.

It's a great little restaurant with a fun atmosphere and great music. We started with the Fried Goat Cheese Balls and the Fried Cauliflower, and both were excellent. The goat cheese balls were crispy on the outside and creamy inside, while the cauliflower was perfectly fried and packed with flavor. I ordered the Jalapeño Popper Burger special, and it was phenomenal. Juicy, cooked perfectly, with just the right amount of heat and all the flavors you'd expect from a great jalapeño popper. Easily one of the better specialty burgers I've had. They also have a great beer and wine selection, which made it easy to find the perfect pairing with our meal. If you're traveling and looking for something far better than the usual fast food off the interstate, Hops Burger Bar is absolutely worth the quick detour. Great food, great service, and a place we'll make a point to stop at again the next time we're passing through.
