This place is located on the outdoor patio of the gorgeous Bar Harbor Inn. The views can NOT be beat or matched at any place we dined while in town. Our server, Richard, was prompt & friendly and while chatting we found out it was his 19th year working there, a sign that he is an outstanding employee and he does everything by memory. We were glad to have him as our server. My fiancee ordered the grilled turkey & havarti sandwich which was excellent. The turkey was nice and smoky and she enjoyed it. I got the lobster roll with primavera pasta salad on the side and it was very good and "affordably" priced at $24, somehow lower than a lot of other places downtown that offer zero view. We had a couple beers as well, they have a good selection. We can't wait to return next time we are in town! read more

The service was a bit slow and not particularly friendly ... but it's 2022. I forgot which chardonnay I ordered but it was delicious. Since it was my first full day in Maine I ordered the clam chowder. Based on my bowl of chowder I cannot recommend it. The taste was lacking. The view is amazing, the food... not so much! The wait was very long but it is at most places. We waited in the oasis and it took forever for someone to ask us what drinks we wanted. The charcuterie board appetizer was very good with a wide variety of good cheeses, breads, and meats. Our waitress was super friendly and the food came out fast! My parents got the pesto gnocchi which they didn't like and it was very over cooked! I got the lemon haddock with gnocchi: the haddock was cooked well but bland and the gnocchi was over cooked. Being a hotel guest , as a courtesy, you get a VIP seating pass so your wait time isn't as long. I will say , regardless, it's worth the wait . Dog friendly! Went here for dinner and waited for 1hour. Wait was totally worth the view and the food. Server brought water for the pups, and I liked that the pups were seated away from other dogs. We went for a seal and lobster tour in the morning and hopped off the boat to see this little slice of Heaven. We ate on the terrace for lunch and it was absolutely perfect! The outside gardens are absolutely gorgeous, the view of Bar Harbor was beautiful and the food outstanding. I had the Lobster Cobb salad and it was perfect. Light citrus vinaigrette dressing really highlighted the sweet lobster. My husband enjoyed the lobster roll- said it was solid. Nice beer and wine selection. Perfect place to have a nice drink and take in the views. My girls each ate an adult bacon cheeseburger and it was the BEST burger any of us have had outside of Texas. I'm not sure where they source their beef or what cut they use, but it's so juicy and flavorful. This is a great little spot to have a nice adult beverage, delicious lunch and really take in the views of Bar Harbor. Perfect cap to our fun lobster and seal tour. read more

A beautiful place to stop by for a leisurely lunch. It was raining on the day we stopped by so we weren't able to enjoy eating outside on the beautiful terrace. However, we still were able to get decent views from inside. Warning if you do happen to visit while it is raining and end up dining inside, the restaurant has a smaller menu and recommend you wear a jacket because it can get quite cold inside with the AC on. For food, I had the haddock fish sandwich which was quite delicious. The fish was well seasoned and had a nice crust to it which paired well with sauce they added to it. The corn chowder was fine though you get mostly chowder and not so much corn and pork belly. Others in my party ordered the lobster boil, lobster roll, and veggie burger. Someone did mention the roll being a bit dry on the veggie burger and the lobster roll was rated as average compared to some of the other rolls we've had. The service was excellent so no complaints there. Our server made us feel welcome and my friend who ordered the lobster even got a few tips on how to eat it. We were able to get a table pretty easily given it was a rainy day and we were eating at 2 pm. Overall it was a good experience. I was between 3 and 4 stars given the comments I was hearing about the food. You are going to pay a little more than you would like for what you are getting but the atmosphere makes up for it. I would have probably gone 4 stars if I had a chance to experience the outside experience. read more

We sat under the yellow umbrella and relaxed after our long drive. It has a great view, overlooking at the island, water, and boat. The menu has good selection of choices and wide selection of wine and beer. We decided on lobster Cobb salad, shrimp and lobster cocktail, haddock sandwich, and grilled cheese. The food was very good. We enjoyed everything, especially the lobster Cobb salad. Our waitress was very nice. The service was super good. We recommend this place for a nice lunch or dinner. First thing to know about this restaurant, is that they close at dusk so the time of closing/last call seating can change day today. The food was delicious. The views are breathtaking. Between the 3 of us, we had a salad, lobster bisque, shrimp and lobster cocktail, haddock tacos, and blueberry mocktails, All were very tasty!! The only thing that was disappointing was the Downeast Whoopi's pie and the clam chowder (too many potatoes and the clams were far and few between). Bonus: They were able to accommodate my elderly in-laws that I was traveling with. I dropped them off at the front of the hotel and the bellman shuttled them down to the restaurant via his go cart. This is one of a small handful of restaurants actually on the water in bar harbor so that was what first intrigued us! They don't accept reservations so we got there around 545 on a Tuesday night and were told they were no longer taking names for the waitlist which stunned us. I have no clue what time people must have started putting their names down for dinner that day. In any case the next day right when we finished kayaking we went straight there in hopes of getting a table for lunch. We walked up at about 1125, turned out they open at 1130 so it was perfect timing. People were already lined up but once they opened we got right in with a table with a perfect view overlooking the water. I got the fish tacos because our waitress said they were their most popular dish, they were okay but if I went again I would just get what sounded good to me, they weren't spectacular. The blueberry pie, however, was amazing! The tables are well spaced and the staff is personable and friendly. They are not lying when Terrace Grill boasts "Bar Harbor's best location for outdoor dining." It's a perfect setting: cheery yellow sunbrellas over the tables, the tables located right on the impeccably maintained lawn, and the lawn itself abutting the harbor right in front of the town dock where all the action happens: whale watch and schooner trips, the shuttles traveling to and from the three cruise ships visiting Bar Harbor today. Add birds - including, surprisingly pigeons - to complete the show. Really nice. The food, though pretty good, fell short of my hopes for this classic Bar Harbor landmark. Based on what I ordered, 3.5 stars for the food. But combined with the spectacular setting and the good service I am very comfortable with the 4 star rating overall. I got the "Taste Of Maine": a chilled salad plate: a whole lobster tail, smoked shrimp, steamed mussels, crab salad, and a green salad. They certainly didn't skimp: there was a more-than-generous portion of all items. The lobster tail came from what I'd estimate as a 1 1/3 pound lobster and was split so as to make it easy to eat. The steamed mussels, served in the shells, were smallish but numerous. Unfortunately they were extremely bland, like they had been soaked in fresh water to rinse all the flavor and salt out of them. I've never had steamed mussels cold before and that may be part of the problem; I don't think that works for mussels. The smoked shrimp was the weakest item on the plate: tiny shrimp (lots of them), with good smoky flavor. But the texture was all wrong: very soft and wet, like something you might defrost from your freezer after forgetting about them for a year. Not would I would expect from a seaside location in a state famous for seafood. They did go nicely with the dill sauce: kind of like tartar sauce but with lots of dill. This was also great with the lobster, but I mostly used the lemon on that. The crab salad was mostly finely-divided body meat; little or no claw or anything thicker than angel-hair pasta. It was good on the green salad: a "spring mix" of greens with tomatoes and a lot of very finely shredded carrot which I really liked. But the tomatoes: please! That was an insult! The worst imaginable sort of starchy, underripe, commercially grown travesties. With decent tomatoes easily available, especially in summer, there is absolutely no excuse for any restaurant, let alone one attached to an upscale inn such as the Bar Harbor. After one taste they went right into the bucket provided for the mussel shells. I think they got the salad dressing wrong. I ordered something like "blueberry horseradish" but there was no horseradish. Maybe they gave me the blueberry vinaigrette instead. That was ok though. DW got a cup of lobster bisque and a Lobster Salad Nicoise. I didn't try her salad but I did try the bisque which I didn't like. It lacked any complexity whatsoever, and especially missing was any sherry flavor which I think is necessary for this item. I think she was less critical of it however. Drinks: blueberry sangria for me, bloody Mary for her. My sangria was good but not particularly tasting of blueberries. There were lots of blueberries at the bottom of the glass but they weren't muddled or anything so didn't give up their flavor. I ate them after finishing the drink. DW's bloody Mary was excellent: assertive horseradish spiciness, enough vodka, and served with a good-sized stick of celery and a large cocktail shrimp. For dessert we shared a slice of blueberry pie a la mode. A generous size with very good crust, the filling not gummy or overly sweet and the crust flaky yet moist with an attractive golden glaze. The coffees we had with it were good but not spectacular. Worth coming back to? Definitely. I'd try something different next time though. read more

Recently my wife and I had lunch at The Terrace Grill. I ordered the Lobster Mac & Cheese, as I had never had this dish before and what better place to try it than in Maine, right? Well, boy was I disappointed. When the dish came out it was nice and hot, but I spotted nothing in the way of lobster except a few micro-sized flakes. Thinking that the lobster must be at the bottom, I started eating and to my surprise, found just two pieces large enough to even know what it was. The waiter didn't do a checkback so I had to motion for him to come over. I told him there was hardly any lobster and he said he would take it off the bill. So I went ahead and ate the dish. Later, he came back and said that the manager said that since I ate the dish, he could not take it off the bill. What he should have done was say, when I complained, "Can I get you something else?". I would have then ordered something else and sent back the "no lobster mac and cheese". I guess the waiter thought I should just sit there while my wife finished her salad. I paid the bill and left a tip, but I would not recommend ordering the lobster mac and cheese! read more
