First time at the Toasted Bun. It had a "B" rating, but that could be something so minor, so it didn't bother us. The restaurant is clean and organized and comfortable. I came in here to pick up my DoorDash order and I went in to ask them for it, they said "we're pretty busy at the moment so please be patient". So I did wait, I was very patient, until that patience lasted for almost 46 minutes. The Toasted Bun disappeared a few years ago and in it's place on California Avenue there is a Pharmacy. Out of the blue i noticed that it re-appeared on South Brand. So i knew i had to check it out. With my friend in from Santa Barbara in town for a couple of days who is/was also a TB fan we headed south and entered the somewhat worn, eclectic interior of this coffee shop. Just looking around from the center of the counter i saw a large screen tv playing "Friends," a sort of automatic keg thing dispensing Stella Artois and a quasi espresso machine. As in a Sushi Bar, the cooks greeted us with smiles, winks and generally sunny dispositions. The service here is dynamite: personal, informative, fast as it has always been... as in their old address. Amber was our waitress and she couldn't have been nicer: serving plates of super home-style breakfast though they obviously feature more here. We ordered: Pancakes Poached Eggs and Turkey Bacon Bacon Cheese Omelette Home fries on both the Egg Plates Coffee The Pancakes are light as a feather and rich from real butter. If they use a mix here, they use a good one because the p cakes were slightly yeasty, slightly sweet and the toppings of real maple syrup and butter only contributed to our enjoyment, Good Stuff. Most coffee shops of this ilk hate making poached eggs because they are not easy to do right and are a pain in the butt if the cook does not have his technique correct...especially since i ordered them "easy." These poached were perfect and though i asked Amber if ordering them would get her in trouble with the cooks, they were obviously cooked with joy. Turkey Bacon? What was i thinking? Well, in any event it was tasty as it could be, Got it? The Cheddar Cheese Omy was as homey as if yer old grey mum cooked it for yee in her well worn skillet: eggs were fluffy, the bacon was crisp and the cheddar was of a very good quality. The Home fries were tasty and sauteed with onions and red bell peppers: really good stuff. The Coffee could have been stronger but it was servicable and did the trick as in woke us up. My husband & I used to eat at Toasted Bun when they were in California & Glendale & they were one of our favorite breakfast places. Once they moved, we didn't realize they had reopened in this location until just recently. You can definitely see that there are many usuals that come in to eat ... which makes this diner very welcoming and reassuring that you are getting great service and food. Any breakfast item or lunch item you choose is guaranteed to bring you right back for some more. please read !!!do not go here!! racism and poor customer service. if i could give zero stars i would. i placed a doordash order and we waited over an hour before the restaurant canceled the order. i called multiple times over 17 to be exact and no one answered the phone. i went to the restaurant itself, and spoke to a gentleman named josh. (if you are a manager or owner reading this check your schedule for 1/1/2021 to find out if this is the correct name. i visited the restaurant at 11:45am). josh said the restaurant is slammed and that they have 15 tickets to fulfill and that doordash canceled my order and not him. first of all doordash does not cancel orders. the dasher may give up picking up the order but the cancellation comes from the restaurant themselves. josh claimed he did not cancel the order. when i asked to speak to the manager he informed me that there was is no manager or owner available. when asked for the managers number he said he does not have it, and the same goes for the owner. i asked who opened up this morning he claimed one of the cooks did. i then asked to speak to whoever was in charge in the back. he started speaking to the kitchen in spanish not knowing i understood every word he was saying. the guy in the kitchen told me that the manager will be in tomorrow and then josh told me i need to leave now!! first of all i know whoever opened up the restaurant has to have the managers information if not the owners! so to be told they do not have that information is a big lie!!! this is terrible customer service! also to be told to leave a restaurant because josh can't multi task to answer my questions is unprofessional. i will get the owners information off the sec website and will contact the proper people for this incident that took place. to speak spanish to a cook who speaks english is not professional at all. I came in for the first time last week because I was in the area getting my car serviced. I couldn't decide what to order because the menu is full of tempting items, but our waitress Katie was great, and she helped us choose both plates and they didn't disappoint. We got the toasted bun burger and a breakfast combo that had a little bit of everything. The service provided was really great, and the food was incredibly tasty as well. I paid $20 for a stack of two large blueberry pancakes, two, slightly overcooked, over medium eggs and four scrawny, dry turkey sausages. Holy god on earth! Hahah I've walked in 40 minutes ago with my order ready. Cup of coffee and a ham and cheese omelette. My thumbs hurt from all the twiddling. Bring a months work of work when you come here because you'll get all of it done while you wait. After the server brought our coffee nobody came by to refill. I tried getting the attention of the staff, nobody looked up to see me waiving my hand. I called out to one of the servers, but she didn't hear me. I tried to waive them down for another 5 minutes, until a guy at another table saw me and noticed my frustration.
