As far as ambiance goes, it feels very much like a busy family gem restaurant. The place doesn't look as "all the thrills", but it makes up for that in the portions of meats that you do get and all the great banchan you get! I never leave hungry and the owner, Kim, is absolutely lovely and very friendly. Could not recommend enough to the folks that just want a chill, Korean BBQ experience! Finally got a chance to try ToBang on Father's Day and had a great experience. The waitresses and waiters were all super attentive and worked so quickly to make sure we were all getting refills on the side dishes and water. The variety of side dishes was also impressive and all tasted really good. The seafood pancake was extra crispy and tasted really fresh. Out of the four meat options we picked, I enjoyed the grilled pork belly the best, especially paired with the fresh lettuce and spicy radish. The portions were really large and for our party of four, we had plenty of leftovers to take home afterwards. If you're looking to cook your own food, please don't come. If you're looking for fresh meat, please don't come. If you're looking to slowly enjoy your food, please don't come. Upon arriving, we had to select which combination set we wanted before sitting down. We had about 1-2 minutes. We ended up choosing the 3 meat combo. As we sat down, the ban chan's arrived as we sat. After about 2 minutes, our seafood pancake arrived, followed by some mediocre kim chi fried rice cooked in foil. Then a minute later, came our cooked kalbi in a to-go container, followed by our cooked bulgogi (which tasted frozen), also in a to-go container, swimming in sauce. The only thing we were able to cook was the brisket, which was frozen. They also poured half the container of frozen brisket onto the grill, and kept cooking it for us, like they were rushing us to leave. We ended up tossing the saucy bulgogi into the grill to give it a more charred flavor and the waitress looked at us in disguist like we were insulting them. We were unhappy with the service, so we didn't tip. They came chasing after us as we left, in which we told them "we didn't approve your service". I don't get the high ratings for this place. We opted for the Brisket, Pork Belly, and Kalbi. The Brisket was tender and juicy. It went really with Tobang's assortment of dips. There was your standard sesame oil with salt sauce, and soybean paste sauce. There was also this sweet and sour red colored sauce, and this other sweet and savory brown sauce. The Pork Belly was very thin cut. I don't think I've had it thin cut at a restaurant before. It was pleasantly really good because it got really crispy like American fried bacon. As for the Kalbi, that was very yum. You don't get the enjoyment of cooking the short-ribs because they cook it in the back, but the good thing is that it's cooked to a pretty consistent medium done that left the meat quite tender. I think this is the fastest that I have ever eaten Korean BBQ. Before you sit down, you order which meat set that you want. For 4 people, we got special-C. It also comes with a seafood pancake. Some of the meat comes out cooked and then some come out raw. The bulgogi and kalbi came to the table cooked. For raw meats, we got the brisket and beef belly. When you enter, avoid tapping the screen as it says not to touch it, and speak with one of the staff members up front. They will check you in and ask you to order before seating. We selected Special-C ($105.99) and selected the brisket, pork belly, bulgogi, and kalbi (additional $8). Before seating, they set up all the sides and have the cooked items (bulgogi and kalbi) all ready for you. The only things we ended up cooking were the brisket and pork belly. The four of us had a bit of 85 degree bread prior, but this set filled us up and we had enough for leftovers (no AYCE necessary). We didn't read the menu closely enough so it was our mistake, but I think all the raw meats that you have to cook is more worth the value. It was about $120 for the whole meal, and although there was a good amount of food, I still felt it was a bit pricey for how much food we got. Every dish did feel very authentic and has quite a comforting taste to it. It was still a great experience and I would go back. Decided to come here to have a chill galentine's dinner. Since it was Valentine's weekend we decided to make last minute reservations which was available to make on Yelp. Luckily they still had one time slot left 8:15pm, which we booked right away. Tobang is located in the corner of the plaza. It wasn't well lit at all and seemed a little sketchy especially since the windows were all covered with a frost window film so you couldn't tell if you were actually entering the right spot. There were a few available parking spots so parking doesn't seem to be a problem. Once you enter you have to order right away with the waiter/waitresses. Since we had a party of 5 you automatically have to order their minimum order of Combination C, which was a choice of 4 types of meats, 1 seafood pancake, 1 steamed egg and rice. They were out of kimchi rice that night. We opted to upgrade one of the meats to kalbi meat for an extra $8. When we were seated it felt a little bit chaotic as far as everything being placed on the table at once, the banchans, the precooked meats, drinks and the meats that were waiting to be cooked on the grill in the center of the table. I didn't even take off my jacket yet and felt like I already needed to chow down. Maybe it was because they closed at 9pm and they wanted everyone out by then or maybe it's just that type of restaurant where it's a go, go, go. I'm not quite sure. The waitresses cooked the meats for us and was very helpful and attentive. They were joking with us and made dinner more fun. The table had already been set up with all the bonchon and we quickly ate. Service was great and attentive. They refilled out bonchon regularly and it allowed for a smooth meal. I liked the amount of meat they gave for each selection, especially for the bulgogi. As for the cheese/corn and the kimchi pancake, they were on the smaller side and the cheese and corn was so small that it would be challening to scrape off the foil. I ordered the special-C combo which you can choose up to 4 meats from their selection, a variety of side dishes, as well as your choice of kimchi fried rice or steamed rice (I recommend to do half of each!) Service was very fast despite how busy it was! All of our meats came one after the other before we could even finish a plate. The meats were flavorful and portioned generously. First time trying ToBang. We came when it was opening at 11:45am on a Saturday in mid-August. Staff was busy trying to seat down people rather than giving us the water bottle they set on the table despite it being just opening. You have to select the Set Meal at the entrance/lobby. They only have set meals but they have a mandatory Set Meals for the number of people you have in your party (ex: if you are a party of 4, the staff MAKES you choose the more expensive/what they think a party eats rather than a set meal that you or your party are interested in or they won't take your business). Already cooked meats have tons of lettuce underneath. They do give you yogurt drinks at the end of the meal. We were also chased down to the parking lot for a complete tip despite it being $4 short from the mandatory/regular 15% tip, which not a big deal but was just taken aback for $4 less.. Overall, I wouldn't come here again. Good to try? Yep. To try again? Nope. Go-to Korean spot! My husband and I were craving outside food one day and we came across ToBang! I suspect they have been here for a very long time and that's great for business! PRESENTATION - The restaurant is located in Kiely Plaza with several other restaurants including another Korean restaurant that is a few stores down! CONS - The only con I can think of is sometimes, the wait is very long even with a reservation and when the parking lot during prime time is so packed, you have to keep circling until someone leaves (put that turn signal on)! Also, they stopped giving away those small yogurt drinks after your meal, now in order to get one, you have to check or do something, I don't really remember what, also, those are full of HFCS (iykyk) so that's better for their pocket and your health. FAVE EATS - They have a few set menus and we always choose Special D since we both love their bulgogi. Sometimes if we're feeling piggish and want leftovers for the next day, we add on the kalbi ribs (also v good)! Brisket and pork belly both seemed to be of the frozen variety, and to be honest, were quite tough to eat. Again, you do get a ton of meat though. We obliged because, hey, it seemed efficient and we were hungry. Waiting for an easy 15 mins before a table was ready gave us a moment to observe the efficient operation that is To Bang. Food prep of the delicious banchans are completed on trays and loaded onto wheeled carts within sight of the host/ cashier booth. The kitchen gets the meat order and cooks to order. When your order is ready, they bring it to you in a tin tray and warm up the grill to keep the tray warm. We had enough food to bring home and, bonus, they gave us extra banchans to take home. This made it well worth the price. The major downside is that it's a small space and it's very loud. It's not a place designed to relax. You eat. You go. We paid around $38 pp tip included, no extra drinks ordered.
