I, once in a while, reminisce about my time spent in japan with my husband for our honeymoon. Our experiences there were fantastic including how delicious the food over there was and eating here brought all those memories back. I'd say this place provides service, ambiance, and food most similar to what you'd get in Japan and I highly highly recommend this place. Our servers were very kind and attentive, the atmosphere is similar to a safe late diner but with Japanese vibes, and the food was absolutely amazing. The Otoro (premium tuna belly) nigiri had my husband and I melting in our seats like how it melted in our mouths. Though it is market priced so best be careful not to order too much of it, tempting as it may be. If you want a more affordable nigiri similar to the Otoro I recommend the seared salmon belly! We ordered other food as well such as a chicken teriyaki bento, and unagi don and they were all delicious (note:my husband wasn't too fond of their pork katsu however) but their nigiri sushi was the highlight of our meal. After a fast and furious trip to Brian Head Resort in Utah to get a couple of days in perfect snowy mountain conditions, we decided to make the drive back Saturday night, and instead of plowing down another five hours to Southern California, we decided to stop in Vegas for the night only to arrive famished and wanting sushi. Until now most of my experience with sushi in Vegas has been on the strip to include places like Sushi Roku and Nobu, and sadly, I've never truly been impressed with any of those places in terms of a standard small store sushi benchmark. So what a fantastic discovery Tokyo Boys in Henderson was. For a Saturday night there was a light crowd there but didn't have to wait and were met politely and seated quickly. The most welcoming sounds were coming from behind the sushi bar--as I heard the chef speaking Japanese. Good sign and didn't prove to be wrong! Our orders were taken soon after sitting and food arrived shortly after. I went with a simple salmon don and Andy went with the unagi don with also a couple of California rolls and oshinko rolls to split between us. First to arrive was the complementary miso soup which was well balanced between the miso and broth and the wakame tasted just like back in Yamaguchi. Next our sushi arrived with the rice being perfectly prepared and seasoned well w it lightly sweet yet a tinge of tartness from the vinegar--to boot: Japanese el dente awesomeness. Salmon was fresh and tasty and the unagi just savory and melted in your mouth. The takuan in the oshinko rolls were tasty and the only "gripe" I had was the avocado was just slightly under ripened--not a deal breaker but could've used another couple days to age. What I Ordered: Katsu Curry Sushi Roll Since I had my own car when visiting Las Vegas. I decided to venture off strip to do some shopping. I don't know about you, but shopping makes me hungry. It was sad to see that the restaurant was quite empty. My visit came right after Nevada lifting their mask restrictions and an hour before closing. You came to talk food, let's do that. There is a lot on their menu. I settled on the Katsu Curry and a Sushi Roll. I honestly did not remember much of my experience with the sushi roll, because I was BLOWN AWAY by the Katsu Curry. The curry is beef based. The beef was SO TENDER it just melted in my mouth. Luckily for me there weren't any carrots that I could remember (I hate cocked carrots). The potatoes soaked up all the yummy sauce. I do wish there were more onions. The pork Katsu was perfectly crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside. I ordered it on the side, so it didn't get mushy in the curry. I would 100% come here again just for the Katsu Curry. Please go out and support small businesses. I loved Tokyo Boys! I ordered a variety of nigiri, which comes one piece to an order. The unagi (freshwater eel) was amazing, one of the best pieces of sushi I've ever had. Eel is my favorite, so I've ordered it at every sushi place I've ever been to. They also have a omakase appetizer which comes with 3 small different plates. I can't remember what the 3 things were, but it was so good. I debated ordering a 2nd one because it was unlike anything I'd ever seen before and tasted so good for only $10. I also ordered the tuna tataki salad, which was seared tuna with ponzu sauce, over some lettuce, cucumber and avocado. They gave a generous amount of high quality tuna, it was strips of tuna not the lower quality pink cubes of tuna. The salad was delicious, and I like that the ponzu sauce was on the side so you could control how much to put on. Outside of the food, the staff was really friendly and we loved the vibe. If you're NOT looking for ayce, and want something authentically Japanese yet casual, then go to Tokyo Boys down on Stephanie. Chef Hiro-先生 used to run Masa, and it's one of the few places that offers both an excellent/authentic Edomae Zushi experience along with approachable items for westernized palates as well, it's perfect for my family with varying degrees of Japanophileness (new word). It's not cheap cheap (which quality sushi can't be) but it's VERY reasonable for what you can get. They source great variations of toro and Hiro-先生 is one of the few chefs in town who gets fresh halibut. Super picky about the uni he selects. My favorite nigiri is the madai (snapper), simply prepared with shiso, salt and lemon. If you're looking for the best value, the premium chirashi is amazing and very reasonable for how much top quality fish you get! However, if you want to go all out, I highly recommend the omakase at the sushi bar with Chef. Remember to buy him a beer for the great meal! They carry coooold Orion Beer and have great kaarage if you just want to hang and snack as well. We heard about this place and have driven past many times, never stopping in. This time we did and were not disappointed! The restaurant is a sushi bar built into a diner. It's a unique, yet delightful match. We sat at the bar lined with familiar sushi coolers hoping for a more authentic experience. The menu looks different from most other sushi/Japanese restaurants around. It's unabashedly authentic. It's not filled with a bunch of people ills that have 3-5 different sauces and mayo's on them. It's not a bad thing, just not what the chef/owner wants on his menu. The food was incredible! Fish was fresh and high quality, showcased by the rice and nigiri/sashimi heavy sushi options. A full menu of artfully made food is available! We opted for mostly sushi with the exception of the the Omakase appetizer and takoyaki. Both were exceptional. The Omakase is not for everyone, it's classic in presentation and technique using traditional Japanese methods and ingredients. For entree we ordered Omakase sashimi $90 set, there was about 32 pieces on the boat...all premium fish. I strongly suggest getting this or the next level up for even more premium sashimi, complete with fresh grated wasabi. Save room for dessert, there are a few desserts made in house, 2 being the black sesame Panna Cotta and the other being a matcha green tea crème brûlée. The total was $30 for the two items! I only had one bite of the Spicy yellowtail hand roll, and it was pure mush, and it tasted Like the yellowtail was mixed with mayo with no spice at all. The Roppongi roll had a different taste I couldn't quite put my finger on. So I just tried to eat the tuna from the top of the roll, and it just didn't taste fresh. Maybe it's just because there's too much other crap. This is in the middle of a highly commercialized area of Henderson with lots of crappy chain restaurants. I suggested going to dinner somewhere to my lovely lady friend and she said she felt like sushi and knew about a place in Henderson. After looking it up we got going. When we got there only a few other customers were inside. It got me worried at first. The main thing here is the sushi. It's what they specialize in so you better get it. We both ordered the cucumber roll. It's about $5 for a roll so that's not crazy. This comes with miso soup and cucumber salad. Overall it was very good. I just thought alcohol here was pretty expensive. I'm not really a sake drinker thankfully. The sushi rolls were good prices thankfully. Come if you're looking for good Asian food in Henderson. I moved from LA and felt right at home when I found this gem. The spicy tuna roll is fabulous, it mixes traditional tuna and toro. Chef Hiro really cares about the quality of the fish I always order Kanpachi, Madai (Snapper), Benitoro (Aburi Salmon Belly) and Halibut and theyre just perfect. I love that it's in an old diner, the vibe is great it feels like you're walking into a super cool space that's refreshed with the food and the vibe. The music is great! Not too loud and always playing something cool from reggae, to jazz, to indie alternative. The staff is amazing and knowledgable, they also sell merch which I think is great cause the shirts are sick. It's just a cool spot and I feel right at home. The only thing I want is some Engawa, if chef adds that to the menu I would be delighted. The restaurant has an old American diner design from the outside, which causes my little off guard as I did not expect this to be a Japanese restaurant.
