This place is what I expected it to be as a Japanese restaurant. If you love Japanese food and been to Japan, the first thing you will order is RAMEN. I've been craving ramen for days now since I just came in town from San Diego (Menya Ultra you should try) where there are a good number of authentic ramen places around town. I ordered Tonkatsu Ramen where in the photos it has an egg, you guessed it right, mine doesn't have one. The soup is so light it's like it's made of powdered instant soup instead of a 12 hour boiled soup based consisted of different type of meats and bones. The noodles are also so thin like it's a chinese egg noodle. Too much white pepper in the soup as well. The sushi might be good as most people reviewed but if you are craving for Ramen, this is not the place for you. Might be around Roseville or Sacramento central...I am off to the next... read more

Started a few months back when my AirForce son who just turned 21 sai look dad, a new Sushi place on his 21st birthday. Just he and I and son paid! I just visited after the change of ownership and remodel. The place looks great! Better news is that the sushi was great too and served by very helpful staff. I ended up just letting them pick for me based on my tastes and they impressed. I wanted sushi and went to two other places in Folaom that had 30+ minute waits. Found this little Sushi place and was pleasantly surprised!! They have a great menu, lots of variety and fun sushi choices!! The service was excellent and friendly. Ordered the Triple A, asparagus, avocado and apple, but they didn't have apple and offeres me mango in place...sooo good!!! They have plexi-glass up between booths and are very cautious about following sanitary guidelines. I will be back!! read more

We have been customers of Tokyo Sushi for YEARS. Tonight we ordered take out. My husband went to pick it up, and our meals had no salads, no rice. Their website does clearly state that you get "no soup with takeout", however it does NOT state you do not get the rice or the salad either! I assumed this was just a mistake on behalf of the restaurant. I called (the restaurant), and the gal immediately started yelling at me. Yes, YELLING at me! She immediately started ranting about the fact that we ALSO ordered an appetizer. I explained to her, THRICE, THAT "YES we ordered an appetizer", and that "NO, we had NO expectation of a salad or rice with our appetizer". However, I had to keep bringing her back to our meals, WHICH CLEARLY ARE LISTED as accompanied with a salad and rice, yet she kept yelling at me sharply about the stupid appetizer. I told her "MY MISTAKE!!! I HAD NO IDEA WHEN ONE ORDERED AN APPETIZER (at an additional cost) it REMOVED your rice and salad from A PERSON'S MEALS". I also told her she needed to stop yelling at me, and to stop continually cutting me off so rudely. I also reminded her that we were long time customers. She said "I KNOW, I KNOW". This owner handled HER mistake in an aggressive, rude, and inexcusable manner. We shall NEVER return, and we do NOT recommend this restaurant. No restaurant owner should immediately start yelling at a customer; never mind one who clearly did not get what is VERY clearly described on this OWNER'S own restaurant menu. Absolutely outrageous behavior by this restaurant owner. read more

Since the new reopening we have went once. It is even better than before! The revamped menu is huge and there are many choices! New (to me) rolls and other tasty things. The decor has improved as well. Seating is plentiful however bar seating has been reduced. I liked watching them prepair the sushi. Luckly we sat at a table where i could see the chef. Went in for the all you can eat sushi lunch today. They're usually pretty rude, but it's whatever when you can get all the sushi you can eat for 12 bucks. Today was the last time we'll ever go in. Came in at 2:13 (the all you can eat ends at 2:15, but used to be 2:30 if I recall) and immediately the woman told us that we can't sit at the bar for all you can eat. I said that we still had a minute before the cutoff and she just waived me off and rolled her eyes. Excuse me? This was pretty insulting. I know it was almost the cut off time, but come on. That's not how you treat customers. She kept insisting we take a table for the regular priced sushi, but we walked out and went over to ABC Pho (they're waaaaay nicer over there). There was three of us and we would have dropped $40 bucks with drinks, but we walked because of her attitude. That's not how you do business. Looks like some other people on here have met this lovely woman. Trust me, you're better off going to another sushi place that is a little more expensive, but has way better customer service. I used to go there for the $12.95 lunch special. The quality of the food and service (sushi makers)got worse over time. The guys that make the sushi suck. It's pretty much rice rolled up inside seaweed. They are super busy but that's no excuse for bad quality rolls. The worse part is waiting an eternity to put an order in. One time and it was the last time we went, 1/2 hr after opening they ran out of the appetizers!!! The little boats that go around the sushi table area are supposed to have little appetizers. They hardly anything on there, just the sauces and some fried dessert that's been on there for too long. Don't waste your money here. read more

I stopped in for quick bite at Tokyo Sushi in Folsom today. I have been eating sushi for 20+ years now. I have had both the best and the worst. Tokyo Sushi in my opinion is crap. The Sushi tasted old, I only got one roll and 2 pieces had something hard and I had to spit it out. I took the rest in a box for my son,but threw it away when I left, I couldn't do that to him. I once had a friend explain her Theory of Taco Bell to me: they have about 9 ingredients, and hire a consultant to come up with different configurations for this static set of ingredients. This is how you get things like the mexican pizza or crunchwrap supreme. Put a tostada in a tortilla! Make a tostada and put another shell on it, cover it with cheese! Tokyo Sushi takes much the same approach to their sushi offerings. Start with a California roll. Put a variety of raw fish/sauce on it. Name each configuration something different. If you really love California rolls, with a generous serving of mayo and a bit of this or that in it or on it, then you will enjoy Tokyo Sushi. I enjoyed the friendly service, fair prices, and frankly, sometimes I really am in the mood for a dressed up California roll. read more

This is definitely our favorite place here in town so far. We have been on both non-AYCE days and on Tuesdays, and have never failed to be impressed. The sushi chefs are so friendly and funny; the never grumble when you ask to order more, and it always comes out fresh, with a great presentation, and tastes incredible. So far this has been a mainly Tuesday night tradition, but paying full prices for everything would not be bad at all. They also serve Maki rolls which is a HUUUGE plus! In Texas I was never able to find a place that had them on the menu; hell, most places didn't even have hand rolls on the menu, but this place has both. And a salmon skin handroll with Japanese cucumber? Oh my goodness, I'm in love. I'm also impressed with the amount of rolls and sushi they have listed on the AYCE menu; with the cheap price I expected them to be more stingy (rightfully so, in fact) in their options, but they aren't. Also, if you order a kitchen item it comes with very little, so you still won't have too much food in the end; and yes, this is a good thing in my opinion. I want to eat my fill at a place like this, not stuff myself until I can no longer move. The free edamame portions are also very nice of them to offer. The service was amazing but the food was bland and boring. From the start I was greeted by two wonderful ladies who showed myself and my coworker to a table. They got rid of the all you can eat, but now, there's a happy hour menu (11:30-5 i think) that's even BETTER. there's tons of $5 rolls on the menu. they also changed the interior so it looks really nice now. it was so good, i came back two days later to eat again before going out of town again. the fish is so fresh and such amazing quality, you won't believe you're paying such a cheap price. how andy gets such great quality food will be a mystery to me, but i'm not complaining!! read more

This is my Favorite Sushi Bar. Once Andy and his wife have taken over as the owners about 1 year or so ago, this has become the only Sushi bar we go to. Very fresh sashimi! The rolls are also great. Not overloaded with rice or sauce like some other "Americanize" places. I didn't care for the udon noodle I ordered however. The staff is very nice, particularly the owner. The decor can use a refresh. Overall a good neighborhood restaurant to satisfy your sushi urge. read more

Unfortunately, I was served this inedible nigiri. When I asked to send it back and get it taken off the tab, not only was the request refused but I was then scolded in the middle of the restaurant by the server. She continued to raise her voice at me and continously cut me off in the middle of speaking to her and talk over me. Ultimately she refused to take it off the tab or offer to remake the nigiri. I was then swiftly brought my check and forced to pay for the uneaten nigiri. This is by far the WORST experience I've ever had at a restaurant by far. 3.5 stars We love quality sashimi. Typically we go to korean or Japanese supermarkets for the freshest catch of salmon or tuna. I was hesitant initially because of what other yelpers said, but I'm so glad that I didn't listen. The all -you -can -eat lunch special is so worth it. At $12.95, you get better-than-good quality everything. The sashimi here is great. The rolls are also great. It was hilarious top see that all the sushi boat seats were taken by blue collar men politely and eagerly waiting for their sushi. They were all so courteous to the employees and the sushi chef and the owner knew almost every customer that walked through the door. Quality sushi with caring service. The huge downside is the decor. They really need to remodel. The walls look old. The cashier counter looks 20+yrs old. Water stains on the ceiling tiles. Random pile -up of crap along the wall. Cramped and narrow hallway to the bathroom. At least this place had two big flat screen TVs on the wall? If they remodeled and advertised, they would get so much more like Raku Sushi in Roseville and Sacramento. read more

We're kind of sushi snobs and are a bit cautious when trying out a new sushi place but I am so glad we gave this place a chance :). We ordered 5 different rolls online as we waited in the truck in the parking lot since COVID prevented a dine in experience and it was 109 degrees to sit outside today. Ordered tantanmen, supposed to be spicy, but it isn't. Menu was wrong. It said my tantanmen should have chasu... the broth is average at best for both mine and my husband's seafood shoyu ramen.
