Came back after the remodel and new ownership. WOW. Such a difference. Inside looks much bigger than it did before. We had the AYCE and stuck to mostly nigiri. There is even a difference in the quality of fish. It tastes fresher and isnt super fishy. We will definitely be back again! read more

Have not been to the place for sometime. A completely different look. Very cool and updated. The staff was very pleasant and the food came extremely quickly. I had Saba nigri sushi and the portion was reasonable. The fish was fresh and well prepared. Ordered 3 rolls the spider roll was rather unremarkable, the 2nd roll was just about the same. This place is a huge step up with the new management. I came here before when it had different owners and the sushi was sub par, I remember the salmon on the nigiri was a very thinly sliced and the AYCE menu was like $12 or $13 which was cheap, but the food quality reflected that. Now the AYCE is $16 but it is a lot better, the nigiri has larger slices of fish and the rolls are tasty, I tried the Folsom and 49er rolls. I generally don't like spicy but the Folsom roll was great! My only complaint would be that the waitress seemed to judge me for wanting to order 10 pieces of nigiri at once, I feel like you should be used to that when you offer an AYCE option. read more

Been here a few times with family and it has been great every time!! I like to sit at the sushi bar and have the complete experience where they serve me the freshest fish from Japan! The quality and service are amazing. You can also ask for the daily fish, which are imported from overseas. If you want the freshest fish in town visit here! The sushi is better than the last time I was here and the staff are really nice! The Hotate nigiri sushi is my favorite so far, it melts in your mouth when it hits the mouth and the texture of the rice is firm but breaks apart in the mouth the flavor of the rice isn't sour or solid it's just right and compliments the fish! I tried all the nigiri and my most favorites are the hotate, salmon, and tamago! For the rolls I would recommend the dragon and caterpillar for they are the most delicious to me. I haven't tried all the rolls yet but i look forward to my return! read more

My family and I love sushi and we usually go out once a week to different sushi places. Tokyo Sushi has been around for quite a while, and we have been frequent visitors since the 1990's, when it first opened. They had even named one of their rolls after my husband...the "Yoder" roll. This year the restaurant underwent a change in management. It just re-opened (November 2017) and I couldn't have been more pleased. They expanded their all-you-can-eat selections and changed their menu. The sushi was great quality and it was MUCH cheaper than expected. I recommend you try out the new and improved Tokyo Sushi restaurant. The "Yoder" roll is no longer in their official menu, but they can still make it for you if you ask for it. Their new chef is an experienced sushi chef; he was very friendly, and he mentioned that he had been in the trade for many years, working at different locations, including Blue Nami. read more

Ate here for lunch, first time, understanding the place is under new ownership (I'd always been told to avoid the place before). Had Maguro, the Pink Lady deep fried roll, the Sakura roll, and the Zig Zag hand roll. The maguro wasn't as cold as I would've liked, but still tasted fresh. All the rolls were good. Really good sushi here. I've been a couple times to get food to go and both times it's really good. I love that they have 50% rolls and have a great happy hour. I can't wait to try more of the menu, because of what I've tried I doubt I'd be disappointed. The staff is really friendly too. read more

We have been here several times since the before and after remodel and new owners. Last night we experienced a new menu change and with that came tougher rib eyes on the bento box dinner. VERY tough. My parents could not chew it. Before, very tender and delicious. It.s unfortunate that restaurants feel they have to cut a corner to save a few pennies. They already raised the price of the bento with the new menu, they should NOT cut the quality of the food. The sashimi pieces that I got, also were not the cut I got last time. Looks like we will have to find another japanese place to take my parents out for dinner. We liked helping little restaurants out and finding little "hole in the walls" with quality food. But when you change the cut of meat and raise the price.....I cannot support that. Go back to the premium meat! And don.t short change the bento boxes with mediocre sashimi. Customer service: excellent! Which is why you got any stars! Hope the restaurant reads this and fixes the mistakes.....it is really a nice place otherwise. We are always a party of 6-8 people, avg $50-60 each couple, so $$ lost. read more

ordered take out twice. had the katsu donburi and assorted sushi plate. my husband didnt care for the spicy salmon roll as the sauce over powers it, but the tai, hamachi, salmom, ikura, aji were fresh and good. the katsu don sauce could be a little bit more but the flavor was spot on read more

Went to this place for lunch. WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!!! The old man got mad at me and refused to make me a half order of rolls because apparently a "Half Orders" do not exist. SO if you want 6 out of the 12 rolls, you have to say "Order of 6" not half or he goes buzzerk. The lady kicked my friend off of his chair to make room for new customers and she gave us the bill as though we were done, we felt rushed for a buffet. This will be the last visit to this place unfortunately. The quality of Sushi isn't the greatest either and the prices are now $13.75 for lunch. On the way out, the cook yells out "THE SUSHI CLAPPIN AND AIN'T USING ANY HANDS". I don't even know what that means but I do know they just lost more customers!! And the man practically yelling back and fourth with me about how I ordered a Folsom roll and I forgot I did and I told him I no longer wanted it and he threw a fit. Food taste alright however my order was not correct (added ingredients not listed on the menu that ruined the whole roll for me). Expensive but not as bad as some other sushi restaurants. We have been eating here for 14 years. Tokyo sushi is our favorite sushi place in the area. We have tried others but keep coming back to Tokyo Sushi. the staff is friendly and always trying to please you. You can order off the menu or ask them to make you a sushi roll to your specification. This is how many of the rolls have received their names. Raw fish does not touch my wife's lips but she loves the Michaelsan roll. It has all cooked ingredients and is really good. Linda, the owner is always making something special for Laura. My favorite roll is the Dragon Roll. When I want something special I order the Chirasi sushi. Don't overlook the cooked items. They have great teriyaki dishes and the tempura shrimp and vegetables are crispy on the out side and tender inside...just perfect. I On a cold winter evening you cannot go wrong ordering the sukiyaki. Tuesday evenings is all you can eat at the sushi bar. Come and visit and you will probably see us there. read more

Just had lunch here, had no idea they were under new management. I will never come here again the rolls are not properly laid out to where you can read what each role is made out of, the ambience is rushed from the moment you sit down they want you to order right away the waitresses are bugging, and impatient. After I ordered three rolls on there all you can eat inquiring about a fourth row was way too much for one waitress to handle. She then question me about whether or not how much I could eat and of ordering a fourth role was necessary, she even looked me in the face and told me that we charge for excess waste? I did not come to this restaurant to be interrogated about what food I can and cannot eat, I came here for a relaxing environment and did not get that the service here is horrible compared to the old owners and staff I will never be coming here again and I will make sure that my friends and family know that the Tokyo sushi we used to know is no longer existent and that this place is not customer service friendly. Will not be coming back . There are much better all you can eat sushi places in Sacramento than this one with better customer service. read more

Under new management and they have great quality. Some of the fish are apparently brought in from the famous Tsukiji market in Tokyo. They even have toro tuna (the fatty belly of the tuna) which is hard to find at most places in the US but is very tasty if you like tuna. Having lived in Japan for close to a decade, I can attest that the quality of the fish is on par with sushi places in Japan. Some places give you dry, flavorless rice but they use quality stuff and prepare it properly with sushi vinegar, etc. Even my wife who is Japanese agrees it is probably the best in the area of the places we've tried (better than Hisui, Mikuni, Aloha, etc.). I highly recommend this place if you are out for quality sushi and good rolls. If you go early, they also have discounts on rolls before 5pm for happy hour. Service was good, prompt refills. They also have a number of other Japanese dishes like ramen, teriyaki, tempura, etc. if you are out for something other than sushi. read more

I don't understand why this place gets high ratings. I had the AYCE with the sashimi option for an additional $3 ($20 total). The salmon sashimi was slimy and smelled bad, the tuna was good though. The sashimi slices were paper thin and it took forever to get anything. The rolls barely had any fish on them (paper thin again). I will not come here again. read more

The All You Can Eat Lunch still going strong from 11:00 AM - 2:30 PM. Food is still great, atmosphere is very friendly. I've noticed the place tends to attract a lot of locals, service may occasionally be slow from time to time when they're busy, but overall, nothing beats tokyo. read more

What happened to tokyo sushi? I went their today for lunch and the waitress as so rude to my mother and me. The thing though that upset me was that she was acting like that at only my table. On the table beside me she was smiling, talking, and asking how everyone was. To us, nothing. She didn't even asked how our meal was, or if we wanted more tea or soda. Oh man do I have feelings about the all you can eat sushi lunch. The rolls are mostly rice and they all taste the same. It feels like variations on a theme but it's all bad. The rolls just have the ingredients listed in different orders. They also get really packed because, well, it's all you can eat sushi. But it takes so long in between getting rolls that I didn't get to the point of being full, I just got bored. I would not go here again and protest every time my friends suggest it. read more
