What a joke of customer service. I went there with my family and two young kids for breakfast. We were sat at the table for 20 minutes and nobody even bothered to check on us. First off, let me say that our service at Toomey's was fantastic. Our waitress was wonderful, and she's the only reason I'm coughing up 2 stars for this place. Otherwise, Toomey's is ridiculously overpriced for the unimpressive food it offers, and you could probably catch jock-itch from the ambience alone. At best, the pool-table green, baseball decor is what you'd find at a fast-casual restaurant at a suburban shopping mall in the mid-west. Two people recommended this place to me, so we gave it a whirl anyway. We had the crab cakes, which were way bland, and surprisingly cost more than at the more upscale, fine dining establishments in this town. My friend ordered the lobster taquitos for $19---We know and expect taquitos to be small, but wouldn't you likewise expect maybe a 1/4 ounce of fresh lobster somewhere in one of those 3 taquitos for $19 bucks? Instead, what he got was some kind stiff, gummy lobster goo taquitos, and the green salad that came with it was drenched and swimming in a tart vinaigrette. I had the baked brie. The brie was described on the menu as being baked in puff pastry, so one would expect there to be a nice, browned, slightly crisp pastry with a warm, gooey brie on the inside. It wasn't. It was cold, and I don't recall a pastry at all, unless I didn't recognize it because of the abundance of blackberry jelly or jam (described on the menu as a "glaze") that was heaped onto it. We were in Mammoth for a week, and this was the worst meal we had during our entire stay. It's cool if an eatery wants to decorate the restaurant like a stinky locker room, and serve sh!t like you'd get at Applebees, but at least let the prices reflect those choices. read more

Don't even bother going here. I went there on a weeknight at about 7pm to grab a bite to eat. The place was empty except for two tables in the back. I waited for about five minutes at the entrance but nobody appeared. The place also had a very strange smell, so I decided to leave. WOW, WHAT A FIND! The food and service is ABSOLUTELY TOP NOTCH! We loved our lunch so much that we had our dinner catered as well. We invited some friends over and selected some dishes that sounded enticing to us - Seafood Jambalaya, Wild Buffalo Meatloaf, and Baby Back Ribs. Did I mention the service is top notch? I ordered the food and asked for a specific delivery time. Well, right on time, the piping hot food was personally delivered to our suite in Auberge by Chef Toomey, himself! It was awesome because we all got to chat with the chef a bit. Just like our lunch, we were all WOW'D! The food was truly excellent. The Jambalaya had a mix of fresh seafood including whole king crab legs. The Wild Buffalo Meatloaf IS THE BEST MEATLOAF we've ever tasted. It as well balanced, full flavored but not heavy. The ribs were completely fall-off-the-bone deliciously flavored and cooked to true perfection. I'd recommend all of these dishes! Of course, no meal at Toomey's would be complete without at least one of their signature desserts. So we ordered 2. We ordered THE BEST EVER Carrot Cake and the Bananas Foster. The 7 layer (yes there are 7 layers) carrot cake was super moist light and not super sweet. Absolutely delicious! The bananas foster had the most flavorful sauce and wasn't overly heavy. It's an understatement to say that we've enjoyed the food. Chef Toomey knows how to create wonderful delectable dishes with service you'd usually only find in a small town. So don't let the modest store front turn you away. This is truly a hidden gem that is becoming less hidden every day. read more

Incredible! Don't be surprised when you walk in. I yelped this place and expected fine dining and we got there and it was a deli...with sports memorabilia....but the server was in a long black apron? After we got the food.....WHO CARES! It was so freaking good. Best rack of lamb I ever had. Holy moly! The owner was on diners, drive-ins and dives when he used to serve tacos out of a gas station. He can definitely cook and his line cooks know what's up. The service was fantastic, but I'm sure it is easy to be happy where you work when all your customers are satisfied because the food is so damn good. We went there for Christmas dinner and everyone in there was talking about how good their food was. My husband liked it so much he was begging the server to let him start a chain in our hometown. Definitely stop here when you are in Mammoth. You won't be disappointed! read more

This place has lots of positive reviews, but our experience was terrible. The hostess said it would be about 20 minutes for a table, but it was over an hour. But that was just a minor issue compared to the rest of the comedy of errors. When we were finally seated, it took about 10 minutes for our waiter to arrive. He took our order and then disappeared. Our drinks never came until about 30 minutes later when my wife went up to the bar to ask about them. Then about 45 minutes after that, we noticed other tables had their food, but we had nothing, not even the bread the waiter had promised. Finally we got the waiter's attention again and asked him to check on our order, and he came back to say our order was lost -- "not in the system." He said that hardly ever happened, which wasn't too comforting. By that time my 4 kids had had enough, so we gave him our order again and asked for it to go. They did comp the order and gave us some cheesecake, but it's hard to recover from completely losing an order and taking that long to figure it out. The waiter apologized and said the owner would come out and apologize as well. But the owner never materialized and by that time I was done waiting. It's hard to even rate the food because we ate it out of to go boxes in our hotel room about two and a half hours after we arrived. So definitely not somewhere we'd recommend. read more

Great food and a Great guy! While staying in the Village, my wife ate there every morning while I was fishing and she couldn't stop raving about the place - so we had to try it for dinner with the kids. I had the meatloaf - Home Run! Matt wasn't there that night but he had met my wife during her morning breakfasts. The next night, I was walking with my family across the street and he ran over from the restaurant to say "Hello". We talked for about 30 minutes and I was very impressed... he is down to earth, a great story teller and his food is delicious. Keep up the good work Matt and we will be back. So... I asked the hostess if she recommended outdoor or indoor seating, which she preferred, she replied coldly, "sit wherever you want." We should have left then. Our waiter, Frank, sucked. We didn't even realize his full shortcomings until the waiter with blue gauges in his ears gave a beautiful description of the specials and his favorite dishes. I wish I'd heard that. They didn't have a drink menu, which was annoying as I like to pick my beverages from a list and not a rushed, brief description. The special (French Onion Soup and Grilled Cheese) came out significantly earlier than the other dishes, the cheese was not fully melted and the soup was okay. When the other dishes came, my medium rare filet looked completely brown. When I pointed it out to the good waiter, he took it, then came back and made me come inside to see that it was pink in the right light...... Need I say more?? Worst $120 we ever spent. Oh and they were out of both kinds of lemonade the girl next door wanted and he offered her Gatorade... Uh, Gatorade at a place I just paid $30 a meal for?? No thank you. My chair was unstable, had to trade it out. Enough said. The next table over came in after us and got their appetizers and meals before us... Um what? Service was bad, Elk was good. After reading the reviews we decided to try toomeys. The place was clean and busy. I decided to try the French toast mainly because they offered maple syrup with it. I told the wait staff I was ordering because of the maple syrup. When the dish arrived I put some syrup on the French toast and was immediately unhappy this is not maple syrup I told an employee who told me they don't serve maple syrup even though it's advertised. He went and got a manager or someone who just stood there and said yes no maple syrup. A conversation of why was it advertised was merely once again yes, no maple syrup. So I caution you cause who knows what else is being substituted on the menu. As for us we will not be back. read more

Very good food. We tried the Filet Mignon, sliders, salads, and crab cakes. Everything tasted great and fresh. Unlike other places in Mammoth that serve up crap from a can this place seems to make and serve fresh food. You can see them making it. Their menu is limited and there isn't really seating inside the place. They are a "to go" style restaurant. I would strongly encourage you to give this place a try. I have no connection to this place so I am not just putting it up for them. I also don't get the baseball theme inside, but I don't care so long as the food is good. read more

This place was awesome! Came to try and watch our college football game and the staff immediately could tell that's what we were here for. They directed us to a great seat, found our game and even put the sound on....it pays to be the first one here :) They even kept checking in on our team asking if we were winning :) On top of that...breakfast was amazing! Everything is good here, OMG. I had the seafood jambalaya and the service is super great. I found my new mammoth spot. We had a group of 8 on a Sunday night and got seated pretty fast. We dined here with 2 families and I felt very ripped off. $260 with automatic tip for 5 adults and 4 kids. It must have been an off night where maybe the workers were new but there wasn't a single dish that was liked (we had fish and chips, salmon Caesar salad, ahi tuna appetizer, ribs, lobster taquitos, baked Brie). I don't understand the current 4 star rating. I don't expect food to be that great on the mountain either. I'll stick with Giovanni for family dining in the future. read more

Busy night in mammoth, this was the first place we could get in to. Sort of awkward atmosphere. Are you a sports bar or a restaurant. Decor is a cheap sports bar but menu is trying to say something else. I had the seafood jambalaya and menu says shrimp, scallops and crab. Well they decided to stick in cod fish and of course since it's the cheapest fish the crab legs had no meat whatsoever and you get like 3 peices of shrimp and 1 scallop! Lol. Everyone else had: ribs - they were so so, fish and chips - were good, and salmon - so so. All in all would not come back. Service was nice but again more in line with with a sports bar then a decent restaurant. The food was just not worth the price. My suggestion is change the menu and go more gastro pub/sports bar. read more

We wandered into this place after walking through the village and not really finding any place we wanted to eat. This is now our favorite place to eat in Mammoth Lakes. The jambalaya was AMAZING, the mixed salad was great, and the choice of local beers was nice. We love the relaxed and casual atmosphere and the great choice of food. Toomey's is definitely unique! We stayed for two days in the area and went to Toomey's for breakfast. The Coconut Pancakes are amazing, but would be better with a doll-up of whipped butter and toasted Coconut on top. The cakes are huge, so if you split with someone else you will be full all day! My son got the Island French Toast, which was okay but nothing to write home about. Prices seem to be about $10 dollars higher than it should be, whether that is to cover expenses or not, it's really high. Mary is the best waitress! She's on her game, friendly and actually makes Toomey's a great place! Lots of baseball memorabilia, owner has an interesting background. read more

After a day of hiking, my wife and I just had dinner at Toomeys. Shared the baked Brie appetizer, she had the Seared Ahi salad, and I had the buffalo meatloaf. Everything was excellent! The service was great--friendly, helpful, and it didn't take long for the food to arrive. The atmosphere was casual, but fairly high energy as take-out customers came and went. Inside dining is limited, but there is also a larger outside dining area that is great in the cool summer evenings. read more

Winter of 2012 Silver Lining So the skiing hasn't been the best this season , but Matt Toomey makes up for it with his food. We have just about tried everything on the menu husbands favorite is the Buffalo meatloaf and the New Zealand Elk (yes it is Elk not lamb). I like the crab cake salad and the lobster taquitos (same as the ones served at his summer location, Whoa Nellie's Deli) Great lively staff. We are fortunate in that we can call and have delivered to our room as we are at Auburge but we enjoy his staff so much that we always go down to order and then bring back to room. They do have a few tables so if you get there early you can certainly eat there. They have a great wine selection that you can take out or drink there. I know they serve beer but not sure about the selection, as I am not much of a beer drinker. For coffee drinkers you have to try the latte there, the foam is perfect!!! read more

My party of nine called to make a reservation and were told that we could be accommodated in two hours, so I gave my name and we continued to drink and socialize at our house. 15 minutes before our designated time, we arrived and were offered two tables for two that could be pushed together. When I said we had a reservation for nine, despite the fact that my name, party size, and reservation time were written on her book, the hostess informed me that they did not take reservations and that we would have to wait. Needless to say, the group of thirty people whom I represent in a seasonal rental at Mammoth will never be frequenting this establishment. read more

Yelp has failed us again! We looked for a good place to have lunch and came across Toomey's because of the awesome reviews. Unfortunately our food and the service was no where near awesome. Food was dry and service was nonexistent almost. They never brought the water for our kid till the end of our meal, waited forever for the check and there was probably only 5 tables of hey we're serving. Look the location is very pleasant . One waitress was great ...funny how meal is better when service is great. Welll I came 6000 miles to get the WORST service iv had in alll my life . The food was OK and OK price for location , but service and attitude of the waitress was appalling . How bad ...well the talking point of the last 2 days amongst the 5 of us . I work in the service industry and this was a disaster ...do not go to this place ...it will ruin your holiday ...or give you something to talk about . What was bad ...rolilng of eyes ..ignoring our requests and attitude that stunk ...am i a bit sensitive no ...i work in the motor trade so i know customers can be a pain ,,,but we were not in any way ..my partner has worked as a waitress for 20 years and could not belive it .....yes we will tell everyone we know to avoid this place ...shame im sure the owner is a nice hardworking guy. Smoked trout on a bagel - quite nice. The salmon and tomato could have used some capers but was good. The wait staff was exceptional.
