1st time here and very impressed....other than a few things, which could have easily lowered my 5 star review down to a 4 or even 3. So, the ambiance isn't great. It doesn't feel like an upscale restaurant, but it's still comfortable and acceptable. I was pretty shocked when I ordered my usual blue cheese stuffed olive top shelf martini. Our server told me they literally didn't have a martini shaker or any martini glasses - I had never heard this before in any restaurant of this caliber, but she said she'd make due and deliver the best martini she could, which came in a regular rocks glass with the olives floating. And, she did deliver - the martini was quite acceptable, but under normal circumstances, this serving of such a classic drink could have been a review killer. But, the food is what keeps things at a solid 5 star review here. The Ahi tuna appetizer was FANTASTIC! You may think Ahi tuna here or there, is the same as it is anywhere, but that's not true at all. Accompanying the super tender and flavorful Ahi, was a seaweed salad, mango/onion/tomato "salsa", cucumbers, and rice and everything together was up there with the best Ahi I've ever had. The wild bison meatloaf (which now seems to be labeled simply "buffalo meatloaf") was truly a thing of legend. I'm a big meatloaf kind of guy and I make a pretty amazing meatloaf at home. This bison meatloaf goes down as 1 of the 2 very best meatloafs I've ever had the pleasure to put into my mouth, the other being some 20 years ago in Park City at Purple Sage. Served over excellent mashed potatoes, and a side of beautiful whole carrots, topped with the tastiest Demi Glace. OMG! What a treat I will most likely never forget. If they can get the drink menu improved and amp up the ambiance, this would be as good as it gets, but even with its imperfections, Chef Toomey shows off his culinary skills. read more

Came here after another place we were going to was crowded. I walked in with my party of 7 and sat down right away no waiting at all. The food was decent and tasty for what it was. The servers were so awesome. Brought everything we asked for right away and cleared any plate that was empty right away as well. Found Toomy's just below our condo rental at the Village complex the week before thanksgiving. We walked into the original restaurant around 10 am to find every table filled. Cashier/waiter working let us know there was additional seating two doors down. The additional dining room is large and equipped with its own bar. Smelled a little musty in there, but not unbearable. Overall, I found Toomy's to be a good stop during our Mammoth trip. They have a really great selection of menu items and fast, friendly service. I ordered the two eggs scrambled with potatoes, bacon, and a side order of coconut pancakes. The potatoes, toast, and bacon were all good. I took one star off for the eggs. No bueno. I can't exactly put my finger on why, they just tasted funny. Too heavy, not fluffy, and maybe old eggs or cooking oil. The best thing I tasted at Toomy's was their Marscopone, Coconut Pancake! Normally, I don't even like pancakes at all ( or any sweet, syrupy, breakfast item) but these were definitely an exception. So So good! I just wish they would have left the coconut syrup on the side for me to add myself, rather than doing it for me. Also, the mascarpone should have been taken out of the fridge at least 10 minutes before serving to bring it to room temp for easier spreading. Our server was not wearing a mask, and the much ballyhooed burger was average at best. We had such a great time at Toomeys! We had a large party of 10 adults and 3 kids and they were very nice about getting us in at the time we wanted, the restaurant was also spacious enough to have a baby stroller inside and sitting next to us so that was a big bonus! The portions were large and the food was amazing, we all licked our plates clean, even the 2 year old and 4 year old ate almost all their food which is rare. Our server was very nice and super accommodating and knew the menu very well, it made it easy to order with my allergies. We will definitely eat here again next time we are up in mammoth! As with most restaurants in mammoth, take the average review and subtract 2 stars to find the equivalent scale of food at a major metropolitan area. My family insists on coming here but the food is so-so. Lobster taquitos are good, but everything else that comes with them is whatever. The "world's best burger" fell far short of my expectations, and to be honest, I would rather have McDonald's. Wonderful experience. Looking for a patio even at 30 degrees outside so my dog could sit with me. Promptly offered a seat outside and they lit the gas fire pit in the middle of the table. Matt Toomey's restaurant is killin' it. Truly creative, delicious, and carefully-prepared fare. The decision kicker for lunch for a friend, me, and my dog was locals know it as having the best food and being "dog friendly." Sure enough, Matt was there having lunch, met me and my black Lab "Lilly" at the door, and welcomed us inside -- sitting at a quiet table out of brisk customer flow. The BBQ pork ribs and wild buffalo meatloaf were excellent. Lilly gave two paws up for the leftover bones, too. read more

He was right: Toomey's was so good that we ate there twice during our 5-day stay in Mammoth. The food here is surprisingly gourmet: seared ahi tuna with mango salsa and a seaweed salad; crab cakes on a mixed green salad with goat cheese; buffalo meatloaf with mashed potatoes and roasted Brussels sprouts. Everything we had was delicious and prepared with care. And for the less adventurous, the burgers here are great too. The outdoor patio is the way to go if weather permits; very pleasant and the tables are well spaced. The indoor dining room is a shrine to Kansas City's baseball team, so if that's not your jam, you might find it odd. read more

All I wanted was a simple eggs, potatoes and bacon breakfast because it's not hard to make, but I ended up paying for a breakfast dish that was burned bacon and burned potatoes. Another place that disappoints in mammoth. I'm only writing this review because Mammoth really needs to come together and step it up when it comes to food, execution and quality. Owners should hold their employees responsible for the quality of food they put out. I understand it's almost off season and it's hard to get employees up there, but my money is good and your food should be too when I pay the extra % because its Mammoth Matt my waiter was great and provided great great service, but there is not much he can do about the food, which seems to be the position most waiters are put in, in most mammoth restaurants. I don't expect the world up there, just something that resembles and tastes close to what I ordered. I understand all the obstacles that come with opening a business in mammoth, but that should not reflect on the food, because as a customer I do my part and pay. Walked right in and sat down on a Thursday evening. It's a very casual spot with great food. I ordered a Caesar with salmon. It was delicious and their dressing is homemade. My bf ordered the pork chop and I wish I would have too because it was divine. The berry compote on top was the perfect sweetness. We both really enjoyed their food. And the carrot cake OMG... absolutely get the carrot cake. Not overly sweet with a light fluffy texture. Will stop in next time we are in town! read more

This review is for their breakfast... I was the one to choose this place for my party of six for breakfast on a Sunday. I choose this place because of the high reviews on Yelp. We showed up and no waitress was to be found. Finally when we caught her, she brought us over to a table and handed us menus. Then menus included breakfast items, lunch and dinner items. She also got us waters. Then after we had decided on what we wanted to eat, she finally told us that only the breakfast menu was applicable. I didn't get why she didn't tell us in the beginning. So we needed more time for choices. For breakfast, we kinda just shared almost everything. I got to try the following and its description: Breakfast Burrito ($9)- This was my least favorite item. I shared this with one other person. The burrito was much smaller than any breakfast burrito I have ever had. It was also extremely dry. It contained eggs, bacon, potatoes, onions, cheese, and served with some gross tasting salsa. It really was not good and pretty disappointing. I took a few bites and gave up on it. Do not get it. Smoked Trout Bagel ($10.95)- I like that this was a speciality item since you cannot get smoked trout in Orange County really. The bagel sandwich included their famous smoked trout, capers, onions, tomatoes and a pesto cream cheese. The smoked trout was pretty good. It was more dense than a smoked salmon. The entire thing was pretty good and is worth getting if you think you will like smoked trout. Coconut Mascarpone Pancakes ($10.95)- This was the best thing here. The two large pancakes had a strong coconut taste which I liked. You can even see the coconut flakes in it. The pancakes were super fluffy like the menu said. It was excellent and worth getting for breakfast. Island Style French Toast ($10.95)- I am not too sure what was "Island Style" about these french toast. It was pretty basic. An order is four pieces with some sad powdered sugar on top. They were good but nothing amazing about them and not something that is memorable. One of the other people I came with got some fruit. Some of the fruits looked canned to us. Someone from our party also got some coffee, which was awful. I took a sip and it was nothing but sour. As for service, our waitress was very nice. Waters came fast and all requests were made. The inside of this place is casual and pretty large. To be quite honest, most of us were disappointed with their breakfast. In the Village at Mammoth they boast the best hamburger in2013 and worlds best wings. They fall short. The burger is tasty but is so wet you will need a knife and fork. The BBQ sauce ? (Tasted like sugar and ketchup) over an over cooked slice of cheese. The fries were crisp and good. The wings are huge about 6 full wings but the sauce was a goopy mess get a lot of napkins. The drinks seemed high in cost a local beer at 9 dollars which is 11 a six pack at the market and is 5 to 6 dollars at local bars. The plus it was a five minute walk from the place we stayed at. The jambalaya was probably the best of all the dishes we ordered. The fish and chips were fine. Lobster taquitos were lackluster and bland. The ribs were awful. That is not what ribs are supposed to look or feel like. The restaurant is conveniently located and the service was fast. I had just finished up hiking in the area and the burger joint I wanted to try ended up being temporarily closed due to construction on the inside, so I jumped on Yelp in a scramble looking for a replacement. Enter, "Toomey's". Initially, the inside looked like one of those places where you order your food at the counter and then they bring it out to you, but I was wrong. I kinda stood there for a few minutes while the waitress was having a conversation with a friend or whatever, and finally advised me to take a seat and she would be right with me. Kind of annoying and is why this would-have-been-a-5-star review is a 4. The menu is pretty different from most places I've been to in the area (in a refreshing way). The Buffalo meatloaf was pretty tempting, but I ended up going with the ribs because it came with freshly made blackberry bbq sauce. I was super intrigued by the Blackberry sauce. It also came with two sides; garlic mash and fresh veggies (which ended up being broccoli). All told, the ribs themselves weren't very flavorful. The menu says dry rub is used on them, but it didn't seem like it to me. The Blackberry bbq sauce, though, was amazing and saved the flavor of the ribs. The garlic mash was good and the broccoli was definitely fresh. I would probably go back again. I really want to consume that sauce again but I also want to try the buffalo meatloaf. However, if I'm met with the same service I received the first time, that would definitely be my last visit. read more

Toomey's was a lifesaver for our group. We were checking out from our resort Friday 10/7/16 and instead of having breakfast there, our admin ordered breakfast burritos for us from Toomey's. It was a last minute order the day before, but Toomey's made it work. We gave everyone only one choice of burrito with minimal customization choices. (Taking out bacon or cheese etc.) When our group started arriving at 8:00AM, our burritos were already wrapped and each of them had a Post-It on it with our names. They also provided us with coffee and the owners were very friendly. I'm sure they had to get up extra early that morning to prepare our large order. The burritos came with a side of salsa, nice and hot and very tasty. It definitely helped us get through our 4 hour hike that morning.
