what an amazing restaurant! came here to celebrate my dads birthday and had a wonderful experience. The ambience was warm and welcoming, and the service was on point. For our starters, we had the della fattoria breads with sweet butter, the bengali sweet potato pakora, and the house made fries. The bread was tasty but nothing super special. The pakora, on the other hand, was out of this world. It was rich and creamy and had a crispy outer surface that then melted in your mouth. It came with a yogurt-truffle dip that was the perfect complement. We also enjoyed the fries! The 'kewpie' style mayo was unique but delicious. It was thinner than regular mayo, and had a slightly sweeter and tangy flavor that made it even better than regular mayo. The tomato syrup wasn't as good though. For our main, my family and I shared the aged ribeye. It was cooked exactly to our specifications and was extremely juicy and tender. It came on a small bed of kale and squash which were very tasty as well. All of us were pretty happy with the dish. And finally, for dessert they brought out salted caramel ice cream for my father's birthday and we ordered the cookies as well. We found both of the desserts to be just okay and probably wouldn't get them again in the future, but would come back for the rest of the meal, especially the pakora! read more

Ok. Not sure what all the hype is on this place. Our children picked it on a recent trip to the wine country and quite frankly I was underwhelmed by almost everything. First it's noisy as all get out which is not my taste in how I want to spend an evening with family over a meal. Second our main waiter seemed indifferent and aloof for a table of six. Service on the whole was the best part of the evening however. Third, when spending over $750 for six I'd expect a table cloth on our table. Not wood and not wood that wasn't even elegant! And last the food. $75 for average at best Ravioli. What's with that? 3 of us had some sort of pasta dish and not one piece of bread was on the table. How is that even considered acceptable. We had several appetizers that were decent but way over priced. All in all I'd have to say this place is way over priced for what you get. Much much better options all over the valley . My boyfriend and I recently visited Napa and started our trip off with a visit to Torc. We had such a wonderful experience there! From the service, to the ambiance, to the food everything was amazing. Our server was so helpful in giving us recommendations for both wine and food. In a full week spent in Northern California, in three different regions, TORC took our top spot for best dinner on a recent vacation! Food was sublime, ambiance was chic and chill, service was absolutely excellent! While the food here is truly special - jamon de Iberico and top-notch strip steak executed perfectly were among our choices - it's the service that makes this place securely five-star. Our waiter was excellent, but we had a full TEAM of folks who came by the table to help ensure our dining experience was amazing. Some helped bring food or drinks, some did refills, others helped with dinnerware, and yet others came by to clean up between courses. It's hard not to feel great when an entire team is ensuring your experience! Obviously, the quarterback of our service team was our waiter, and he was EXCELLENT! Our first meal in Napa post-Covid was at Torc. We got a table in the back patio. It was a large patio with only 4 tables, situated pretty far apart from each other. All of the staff were wearing masks and gloves. They even provided envelopes to put our masks in. Menus were one use, but silverware was not, but I'm sure they were properly cleaned and sanitized. The menu is very shareable. For apps, we got the iberico and bread. The ham was very good and the bread was a good call because the ham only came with 2 slices of crostini. The bread was amazing. Each order comes with four THICK slices: rosemary, sourdough, levain, and walnut (I think), and enough butter to cover all the surface area and then some. For mains, we both got truffle dishes because it's truffle season. The grilled cheese was amazing. But after the ham and bread, I had trouble finishing it because it was so rich. Good problem to have, I supposed. The rigatoni with truffle was also very good. It was a very carb-heavy meal. For dessert, we went with the chocolate tart and the citrus sorbet. The first 30 minutes were great, service was great , food was spectacular. Then about an hour later our dinner never arrived nor were we attended to. Finally we asked for our bill and they said well your food's almost here we will box it up. The food was still on our bill. At this point it's not about money or price. I would happily pay 2x for the food and a service that would actually check in on you every two minutes. Supposedly one of the best food spots in Napa. It might be. Service spot was bad. Server acknowledged a shortage of staff I kindly asked them to remove or mains. Our bill came out to 107 and I still tipped over 60% because that is how much we appreciate our service industry. On my first visit to Napa, I ended up coming to Torc twice for dinner because I was so impressed. Since then, I've returned each time I've been back to Napa but my most recent experience fell short. It's a farm to table restaurant where they use local ingredients. I loved the diver scallop dish they had that was in a corn based sauce. It has now since evolved into different combinations of sauces and flavors but I found myself gravitating towards the initial flavors of the dish. I also really enjoyed their black truffle grilled cheese sandwich which comes with a dipping sauce. Their pastas can be a hit or miss so it depends on what is on the menu that season. For my most recent experience, we got the eggplant dish which had a strange flavor and texture. For the mains, we got the porkchop and diver scallops but something seemed to be missing in all the dishes. We were really excited to get into Torc after a last minute cancellation. My husband and I were excited by the menu and reviews. Service was good. But after we started ordering food it felt like we were in some alternate reality where our experience did not come close to resembling the glowing reviews. It actually felt like we were part of a joke. We ordered: Burratta and truffle crostini-- it was tasteless and needed rock salt badly. So unseasoned and the truffles were way too mild. The amount of burrata was skimpy and it didn't matter because it lacked the expected rich texture and flavor. Chicken Terrine--again, tasteless. How is it possible for this dish to taste like nothing but the occasional bite of peppercorn? The fennel was like eating...I don't even know. It tasted like...nothing. Full slices of fennel and the taste of mild, dry water chestnut. Tartare--this dish was comical in its presentation and composition. It was like eating a bowl of puffed rice cereal with fish and fruit. It was as if the chef had no idea what she was doing. Gorgeous gems of mandarin and pomegranate drowned in such a ridiculous amount of puffed rice. At this point our night simply had to become about the absurdity of the menu and its execution--or its lack thereof. But we had to eat. It was late. We ordered the sugo and the scallops. These two dishes at least had some sort of flavor. Scallops cooked well, sugo sauce good. Not outstanding. Noodles like mac n cheese with good cheese. Overall, this was our worst dining experience that included nights in Paso Robles and San Fransisco. A huge disappointment on our last night of our trip. Wow! Honestly one of the best restaurants in Napa! All of the food blew us away! Note for those that prefer outdoor dining - they are not currently seating guests outside due to lack of staffing. We reserved on OpenTable expecting outdoor seating, and instead opted for the bar since there's a bit more social distancing there. Some tables are a bit close and the restaurant was great at letting us find a place to sit where we felt comfortable. One thing I really appreciated from the staff was that they asked for food allergies before ordering. Throughout the meal, they were helpful in suggesting alterations and substitutions to dishes that accommodated dietary restrictions, and servers were clear about mentioning those when serving us. (4/5) Iberico Jamon - The portion size is small for what you pay. However, it is Iberian Ham so keep that in mind! It was worth it since it's hard to get this outside of Spain. (5/5) Deviled eggs - Not sure what they put in the green filling, but the pickles go really well with the eggs. Lots of savory goodness all in one bite! This place did not live up to the hype in my opinion. We booked based off OT reviews and this place got a good recommendation from one of the pourers at a tasting room. The squash blossom appetizers were the best part. The pork chop did not carry a lot of flavor and neither did the short rib. This was by far our favorite restaurant on this trip. We ate at Michelin starred restaurants as well as a few other highly recommended restaurants, but Torc was unanimously our favorite! I really can't stop thinking about the House-Made Radiatori that I had here for dinner. The pasta noodles were al dente and chewy, just the texture that I want in my pasta. Torc is a contemporary American Restaurant located in downtown Napa. They offer an impressive wine list and a daily changing menu. The atmosphere is classic with an open kitchen and rock and roll at a comfortable level fills the air. Torc was the most highly recommended restaurant to me by the locals in Napa. Even people that haven't dined at Torc recommended Torc to me. We started out by sharing the Peigord Truffle Grilled Cheese ($39.00). Our sandwich was grilled nicely and had a good amount of truffle in it with a thin layer of cheese. For whatever reason I don't know the truffles were basically tasteless...I've enjoyed this sort of truffle multiple times before from another restaurant (Binkley's at Cave Creek AZ) so I had an idea of what the truffle should taste like and this wasn't it. I note that does happen with truffles so this wasn't totally unexpected. (as truffles age they lose flavor, truffles also come bottled, canned or dried) I should have asked questions about the truffles. At every other restaurant I had truffles at they usually show you the truffle before it's served. Here they didn't. My husband's House made Rigatoni with Winkler Farm Boar Sausage was VERY GOOD. I tried the Spring Greens Ravioli Gigante. It looked amazing but had too many flavors and flowers in it inside and out for both of us. From the crispy squash blossoms, to the scrumptious risotto, to the delectable scallops, and the delightful strawberry pistachio tiramisu, each and every dish was delicious and unique. I'd been trying to get a reservation for so long and finally got in. And we drove 1.5 hours just for the dinner on a Saturday night. The hostess was very polite and welcoming. The patio area was nicely tented and divided up. Appreciated the fact that they allowed for us to bring the dog. In summary, the welcome service, outdoor atmosphere were all pretty nice and standard. We got the bread and butter, deviled eggs, scallops, beef fillet, and strawberry cream puff. Is it bad to say the bread and butter and the free caramel ice cream that came with the dessert were the highlights?! My heart aches a bit when I say this out loud. The other dishes were so very standard that I probably won't be motivated to go back or try them again. The scallops and beef were super salty that I had to pair every small bite with something else to wash it down. The cream puff which was highly recommended was very soggy like a day old Safeway cream puff. It also had way too much puff versus filling. I have never complained about service and Saturday was the day I had to fight hard not to complain on the way out. Our server lady NEVER showed up once after she took our order. Until the very end when she was ready to present the check. That was a 1.5 hour dinner. I could've eaten the whole thing, but we all shared, so it left me craving more. My friends' favorite and definitely a MUST have here is the corn soup. We ordered 2 because it was that good and it left us craving it the next day. We all wished we could just order corn soup to go! It has these cornbread croutons which soak up the corn soup and pair well with the fresh tomatoes to make a perfect bite. Very flavorful and addicting. Like I said this was the talk of the weekend...couldn't stop thinking about the taste it left on our palette...for days. The hamachi crudo had a nice kick of spiciness to it that was surprising and paired well with the crispy forbidden rice. I could definitely have eaten the forbidden rice crisps by themselves as a snack. We ordered the avocado on the side, because of an allergy, but usually comes with fresh creamy avocado. The tempura squash blossoms were straightforward and tasty, but I may have not been feeling fried foods this evening because it didn't really impress me compared to all the other fresh foods we were eating. The peach salad was so refreshing and lightly dressed. I wasn't too big of a fan of the farro, but i think it had a seasoning or herb in it that I wasn't too keen on, but overall still very delicious. Lastly, we wish we had extra room for more of this refreshingly delicious tart. It wasn't overly sweet and the hint of basil kept it so light and refreshing. Torc is overall good, and has the potential to be great if they can improve their service. Most of the food was delicious-short rib, pasta, squash blossoms, ice cream. But some fell flat- like the snickerdoodle cookie lacked flavor. Also nothing that we received was hot, just warm. They all split their tips so no one went above and beyond and the service was slow. When we ordered drinks at the bar before dinner the bartender wasn't even listening to us. He had to ask us twice what we wanted. What was most disappointing is when we received an espresso martini that was bitter and had no sweetener in it. We told the server who said, "you don't have to drink it" and then charged us for it. The sommelier was good too, but disappeared and never came back after we started with glasses of wine rather than ordering an expensive bottle of wine. While browsing Yelp we came across Torc, the food looked absolutely delicious so we decided to give it a try. What a delightful dining experience. The staff was extremely helpful and professional through and through. We were seated quite easily and given a breakdown of the menu and type of the food we can expect. The corn succotash caught our eye, beans, squash and tomatoes, this dish was quite tasty it came in a little iron pot. The flavor was quite impactful, the tomato and corn blended very good with the squash. We also ordered the little farm fingerling potatoes, wow! this was a hit. Nice golden color, perfectly cooked and the crème fraîche was everything. We couldn't stop eating these. For our entrees we went with the baked stuffed lobster and the schmitz ranch short rib. I took a complete bite of the lobster with the crumble and mushroom, very tasty. Perfect consistency and flavor, the vinaigrette really tied things together. I liked the flavor of the short rib, the grits were extremely delicious, the meat was quite tender and flavorful. The glaze really added tons of flavor. The "popcorn" I could have done without but it didn't bring the dish down for me. I do wish the portion of protein would have been bigger. Loved it! The food- good quality, very tasty. The service- excellent. The ambiance- just right. Hubby and I went here for the first time for a quick bite right before they closed on our anniversary. Although we were their last customers, they were so gracious! We had the grilled cheese, the favio bean risotto, and soft crab dish. All came out hot and prepared well, very tasty and worth every penny. Keep in mind plate portions are pretty small, so plan accordingly. For dessert, carrot cake and a chocolate ice cream. They also brought out a raspberry sherbet for our anniversary. Very nice. Everyone was warm and professional. We made an online reservation and they called us to confirm beforehand. The host and waitress were perfect. The gentleman pouring our drinks and clearing our table was pleasant. The place was clean and music was at a nice level. Parking directly across the street was easy. Theres a bar downstairs and more seating upstairs, so there are options. Overall I really liked it, I'd go again. Again, the only thing you'd have to be concerned with is portion size, and that's just a personal preference thing, right? If you're looking for Hungry Man portions, this ain't it. Otherwise, this is a really nice place! The price- I was pleasantly surprised- the entire experience would cost double in the Bay Area. I'd recommend you try it out. read more
