This restaurant ranks one of the most affordable romantic restaurants in SF so needless to say I was excited to try out. I enjoyed the atmosphere and ambience however once the restaurant filled up it was actually quite loud. Service was great but the manager or hostess (not sure) was obviously sick and probably shouldn't have been working. The food was good for the most part with the most impressive dish was the Spinach Casarecce Primavera! Also heads up, a 20% gratuity is mandatory regardless of your party size. I am unabashedly obsessed with corn, so there was no way I could miss Trestle's limited time corn-centric tasting menu that happened in August. Upon arriving inside their classy and rustic space, we waited to check in and then was led to our reserved table that was well spaced out from the others next to it. Our server greeted us warmly and gave nice wine suggestions to pair with the food. Since they had two choices per food course and we were two people, we ordered both options and added one of the pasta supplements to split. This way, we could try almost the entire menu. Starters - Summer Corn Soup + Heirloom Tomato Salad: I could probably drink an entire bathtub full of that corn soup, that's how good it was. The sweetness wasn't overpowering at all. The tomato salad tasted so fresh. Pasta Supplement - Corn "Cacio e Pepe": The breadcrumbs added some amazing texture. The corn flavor was subtle and let the pasta shine. Entrees - Crispy Skin Salmon + Seared Bistro Steak: The salmon certainly lived up to its name with a nice crispy skin. Really enjoyed the corn succotash but avoided the peas. Steak was seared perfectly. Dessert - Chamomile Panna Cotta + Dark Chocolate Cake: The chocolate cake was a miss for me since it tasted too rich and overly bitter. The panna cotta on the other hand really won me over with its light fruity flavors and buttery corn cookie crisp. $42 per person + tax and tip for the default 3 course tasting menu is super reasonable for the quality of food and service. Not a place for serious conversations or if you're hearing impaired, as the ambiance is very loud and acoustics are bothersome. But then that's typical for small and busy restaurants at dinner anyway However, considering food and service, my partner and I loved every bit. The food was so good we really scrubbed our plates clean! I also like the idea of a set 3 course meal as that helps with the speed and efficiency of our orders too. I'm vegetarian and my partner isn't, so risotto for me and chicken for him. Dessert was also a good balance of light, not too sweet and a good palate cleanser with panna cotta and a rich, creamy and nutty chocolate. Great place! Will definitely be back! read more

I always do so much research before going out to eat all the time that I forgot how nice it can be walking into a restaurant without any expectations. All I knew coming here was that it'll be a nice 3 course prix fixe dinner at Trestle SF. Ok, not many menu options so I won't look anything up. Trestle ended up being a $42 prix fixe menu, reservation only restaurant. Not a huge space and because it's reservation only and they will kindly ask you to leave if you linger too long after your meal. First time that ever happened to me but I get it. The asparagus soup here with salmon roe and mushroom was SO unique and very tasty. It was probably my favorite of the three courses on the menu. However, I also got to try the pasta supplements and the summer corn risotto was very - Smoky with a nice kick and rich flavor. This was a surprise. I'd highly recommend both of those but I'm sure the menu would've changed by the time you get there. Definitely makes a great night when you get the trifecta- good food, good service, good wine. Trestle is truly a one-of-a-kind dining experience! Located in on the corner of Jackson and Columbus in SF's North Beach district, Trestle offers $42 three-course fixed menu (starter, entree, and dessert) built around seasonal ingredients. This menu changes on a weekly basis and you can view the week's offerings on their website, or just waltz right into their establishment if you prefer to be surprised. They also offer two pastas as supplements ($12 each) if you decide you're on the hungry site and want a bit more to eat; they estimate that 1 pasta dish can feed two individuals. I dined at Trestle on July 21st, and we made sure to make a reservation well in advance. The restaurant itself is definitely on the smaller side, which admittedly does make for a very cozy ambiance; however, given the limited seating making a reservation is probably your best bet if you want to dine here. One thing to note is there is a limited amount of time each party may be at the establishment whether you're eating or chatting at the table - the time limit depends on the number of people in your party. For example, for my party of 3, our time limit was 1 hour and 45 minutes (if I recall correctly), and the staff will prompt you when your time is up as there are other parties waiting. When you get your bill the service charge is already included, so you won't need to worry about tipping! Now on to the food. Thought a bit difficult to comment on seeing that their menu is ever changing, but I would like to emphasize that the flavor and quality of their food is unlike anything I've ever tasted before. Every item was well-seasoned, well-cooked, and absolutely delicious, definitely worthy of their Michelin Bib Gourmand recognition. If you have room to spare I highly highly recommend giving their pasta a try, as delicious as their fixed menu is their pastas are absolutely to die for (especially if you're a carb fiend like me). We got all the food they had our night: burrata salad, pea soup, pancetta risotto, mushroom pasta, duck confit, branzino, and two desserts. Nothing missed--but the duck confit especially? I've heard so many things about Trestle over the past year, and I finally decided to give it a try. The $42 pre-fix menu comes with 3 courses with an optional for a 2 different $12 supplemental options to add onto the dinner. The menu changes daily, so it's a spot where you can go over n over for a high-end yet affordable meal. Before I dive into to the food, the presentation was flawless for all the dishes. For starters I went with the asparagus soup, which was creamy and delicious. For my main dish, I went with the steak option which was ok, but not melt n your mouth good. Cooked medium rare which is perfect the meat could've used a bit more seasoning and the Brussels sprouts tasted a tad burnt. We added the gulf shrimp risotto which was easily my favorite dish of em all. Then for dessert I went with the olive oil cake with fruit topping. I expected the cake itself to be softer it was kinda dry. And for drinks a couple of glasses of wine which was delicious. We saw another table order bread and whipped butter. You have to ask for it though. I'd skip it next time though, bc it's not made in house, and it was hella hella toasted. This a great spot to catch up with a small group (2-4) and the prefix makes ordering simple. I'm thrilled with my first time here at Trestle for our anniversary. The staff did an amazing job at giving us a perfect table in the house, and our server gave us stellar service throughout the entire dining time. This is a very cute and appropriate spot for a date night. Just be aware that due to it's intimate size, the vibe can get quite loud and sparkling water is not free. Nonetheless, it's impeccable service and delectable food will have you enjoying the ambiance of the overall experience. My favorite items were the Roasted Tomato Soup (not pictured), English Pea Risotto, Tamarind Glazed Black Cod, and the Chocolate Panna Cotta (not pictured). Trestle Food: For the appetizer, I chose the Vidalia Onion Chowder which consists of Bacon Lardon, New Crop Potato, and topped with crispy scallion. The presentation of this dish was fun, as the soup stock is poured into the bowl in front of you. It feels simultaneously clean and lightweight, yet also somewhat filling. For the twelve dollar supplement, we split the Mushroom Risotto between four. It consists of Cordyceps, Parmesan, and Huitlacoche Mousse. This, while tasty in a smaller shared portion, had some acidity to it -- a vinegar taste noted mostly in the orange cordyceps. There was also a drizzle of balsamic on top. It helped cut through the fattiness of the mousse and Parmesan, though. Oddly balanced. Worth a try but I would not have ordered the whole serving for myself. For the main, I chose the Seared Bistro Steak, which consists of a Glazed Corn Madeleine, Squash Succotash, and Roasted Pepper Jus. I would pass on the madeline entirely, it was over-baked and honestly lackluster in terms of flavor. The steak was cooked to a tender, medium rare perfection (funny enough, they do not ask for your preference beforehand). There are little dollops of potato which pair well with the steak, and the Jus adds just the right amount of fatty, savory flavor. For the dessert, I chose the Blueberries & Cream, which consists of a dry flat circular layer of buttermilk cake separated from a dollop of vanilla ice cream by maple glazed walnuts. Underneath is a blueberry compote. I was surprised by how savory this dessert was -- from the cake slice lacking sweetness to the walnuts being dusted in salt. It was interesting having these savory elements paired with the ice cream and blueberries. Perhaps just a tad less time in the oven next time for the cake! Service: This is a well-orchestrated team. Servers cycle through as dishes are served at each table, but each one that arrives at the table display their knowledge about the elements of every dish. I was impressed by the attentiveness of each server with small details - from replacing silverware between each dish, refilling waters promptly, and even re-folding our friend's napkin when they went to the bathroom. Ambiance: We had a reservation for 4 at 8pm on a Friday two weeks ago and there was no wait for our table despite it being otherwise busy. It gets crowded later in the evening, so be sure to make a reservation if you'd like to avoid a wait. The walls are fully exposed brick, which means there is no sound absorption. That being said, it can be difficult to hear those at your table as the sound of others' loud conversations reverberate off the walls and travel throughout the restaurant. Adding some padded elements on the wall would help with this! We also made a note that it was quite dark as the lights are very dim, making it difficult to see the food on the tables. This place stays busy! There were plenty of groups - from birthday parties, to dates, to reunions. Note: there is a time restriction for the table based off the party size. For 1-2 guests, it's 90 minutes, for 3 guests it's 1 hour 45 minutes, and for 4+ guests it's 2 hours. There is also an automatic 20% service charge and SF health mandate added to the bill, which wasn't discussed beforehand. Tip: the menu selection is constantly changing, so if you see something you like, try to go that same month! Our server (Asian lady) seemed like she was very tired and barely smiled. We were totally ok with that until she kept taking our plates when we were finishing the last bites. 1st time when we were enjoying the bread and butter, she came and asked if she could take the plates. My friend was still holding a piece of bread and about to enjoy the creamy butter. So sad, I saw her took the plate with my most favorite dishes of the night 2nd time: when my friend was eating the main dish. She came over again and took the plate AGAIN. Friend was shocked lol, we are still enjoying the dishes even though the duck was dry but yeah, we enjoyed the sauce. Come for: a great value $42 prix fixe, excellent service, surprisingly easy parking (garage) Keep in mind: can be pretty loud, menu changes every week, they only serve the prix fixe "$42 for a 3 course meal in San Francisco?!? No way, it has to be cheap foo...oh it's steak? And we have choices? And the service is excellent??!" I came on a Wednesday evening with a group of 10 people and was blown away by the experience. Trestle is a small intimate bistro focused solely on doing their rotating prix fixe right. They have a great wine selection that really showed our out of town guests why California wine is world renowned. But let's talk about the food: Asparagus soup (4/5): hearty, creamy, and balanced. The soup originally came with salmon roe but the staff was great about asking for dietary restrictions/ preferences and I declined the roe. The servers brought a bowl with a dollop of creme fraiche and herbs out before pouring the soup on top in front of you. Delicious and a great take on asparagus. Bistro steak (4/5): Flavorful and tender. I LOVED the onions and sauce that accompanied this steak. It came out medium rare and well sliced into pieces already. My one complaint that keeps this from a 5 rating is the portion size is quite small for an entree. (see picture) Warm cornbread cake (4/5): I really liked this cornbread. The fruit compote added the sweet dessert element and the cornbread was not dry. Not too much to say about this one, just well executed. As noted, our servers were very attentive and never let a wine glass go empty for more than 2 mins. They asked for restrictions and explained everything. As a plus for this spot, it's located right next to a parking garage that is fairly affordable and several others nearby in the area. Love me a good prix fixe menu restaurant. Tucked in a cozy corner with dim lighting, Trestle is perfect for date night, but works just fine for slightly larger parties celebrating special occasions as well. The service was probably the biggest highlight. The servers were really attentive and friendly. They presented my friend with a cute birthday card and came out with a candle when we had our dessert. For $42, you get a total of 3 courses. The supplement is an additional $12, and we were recommended to try the risotto to share. I realized later on that you can request bread for the table! I wish I had known or that it had been offered to us... The food tasted good and was presented nicely, but nothing particularly memorable. I enjoyed the squash soup but was not a fan of the seared bistro steak dish, as the roasted broccoli was really salty. The risotto was a bit on the salty side too. But the dessert definitely made up for it. Tip: Order different ones so you can share and try both ;) All in all, I would probably come again if I was already in the area and was looking for a restaurant that favored ambiance over food. My second time here: Our starters were meh. The soup (Summer Corn Bisque - Mussels Escabeche, Yukon Gold Potato, Saffron Cream) came out lukewarm, and the potatoes were annoyingly al dente. They graciously took the course back after we let them know and eventually brought us hot soup. My friend who had the other app (Heirloom Tomato Salad - Brioche Crouton, Corn Rémoulade, Bacon Crumble) let us all try it, and we found it fine and a bit uninspired. The rest of the food, including the optional pasta course (Spaghetti & Beef Meatball Calabrian Chile, Basil, Burrata), was quite excellent (our mains were lamb and branzino; see pix). I had a delicious corn soup with chunks of avocado and mild pepper slices. It was creamy but not milky. I opted for the additional supplemental spaghetti with shrimp which I shared with others. My friend knew (since she dined here several times before) to ask for some bread. We got slices of toast and cloud-like whipped butter. My main was a tender slice of pork with horseradish & mustard seed sauce accompanied by shaved asparagus and a dark frisée-like vegetable. The dessert I chose was olive cake with rhubarb strawberry compote drizzled with olive oil. The service was excellent. Attentive to removing used plates. Water glasses were refilled throughout the meal. We were asked how are dishes were. How nice! Trestle offered one of the best meals I've had in San Francisco. Fine dining at a reasonable price. First time going to Trestle and it was definitely a decent experience. It's decent value for mine but only if we stick to absolutely the prefixe items and no add ons. The prefixe menu is listed as $42 but our pp total was close to $80 with wine, add on pasta for the table and bread. The dessert was amazing. Quick service and it's a great place to celebrate special occasions. It's a cozy little place with nice wall art! Parking in North beach over the weekends is always hard but weekdays is better. I'd recommend using public transport to get to trestle over the weekends though. They left us a nice welcome birthday note for my friends birthday too! Definitely would love to try again. Love the prix fixe menu idea. We came here for a holiday dinner with a party of 7. It took a bit for us to get our table, even though we had a reservation, but it was no more than 15 minutes. Our party was mixed in picking their selections and everyone loved them, minus the desserts. I got the roasted carrot appetizer, the table split the pasta options, then I got the scallops for an entree and warm buttermilk cake for dessert. The appetizers, entrees and additional pasta courses were phenomenal. Every plate had the perfect balance of salt, fat, and acid. So tasty. The dessert I chose was pretty bad, I didn't even eat more than two bites. The cake was incredibly dense and dry- blech, not even the cream on top could save it but the diced pears were ok. I sampled the other dessert, a smores pie and it was very rich. I don't love s'mores but I preferred the chocolate part of it anyway. Booked trestle for restaurant week and we got a 4 course meal for $45! That is literally unheard of in sf. The ambiance was cozy and our servers were all so attentive. My favorite thing would have to be the fish on their entree list. It was the right amount of crispiness but at the same time tender on the inside. One of my favorite spots in the entire city. Every time I have been, the food has been creative, seasonal, beautiful, and just so delicious. My favorites tend to be their soup and pasta courses. In addition to the tasty food that switches often as they use what is fresh and in season, the service is impeccable. Warm and attentive without being pretentious. Cute spot for date nights or small groups! Made reservations here for an early Saturday evening, and it was pretty easy to get a spot for 2. Walk-ins are a bit more difficult as the host let us know that they're usually booked out with reservations until around 9PM on weekends. It's a small space with mainly 2-seater booths. I was interested in Trestle because they offer a pretty value 3-4 course dinner and I heard great things about the food. There are 2 options for every course you choose, and because I was with my partner, we were able to try a little bit of everything. We also added on a mushroom risotto for $12. Everything was fairly good! My favorites were the kabocha soup, risotto, and hot chocolate tart for dessert. The only thing I would say about the food was that all the savory items were a tad on the salty side. I believe they change their menu pretty often, so I'd be curious if this stays the same amid changes. Besides that, pretty enjoyable and I felt that it was a lot of food for the money. read more

Came here yesterday for my birthday celebrations with my husband and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves from the ambience, the food, the drinks, the service. Did the four course menu for SF Restaurant Week, and each had a beer or wine. Great beer and wine list. Because the current menu has a choice of 2 for each meal, we ordered one of each so we could try a bit of everything - that's the way to go unless you have food intolerances or strong preferences etc.! Starters were good - salad was yum but nothing special, pea soup was delicious. Pasta dishes were the winners of the night. Both cooked perfectly and so flavorful. Mains were on the smaller side - brazino so crispy and lots of flavor, beef was yum too but the brazino was better :) Dessert - the chocolate cake was rich and complex with various flavors of coffee, hazelnut, mint, honeycomb crumble, the strawberry panna cotta was a nice balance to the choc cake. Service is delightful. Restaurant filled up very quick and was full by 545pm. Ambiance is cozy, modern, relaxed. Good value for money for a special occasion meal. read more

Trestle is perfection. I've been here twice, a year apart, and it's a home run each time. They have a 3 course meal for $45. Where can you find that kind of deal in this inflationary world? You get an additional pasta entree with $12 more. The dishes are creative and delicious. Always impressed by the presentation. Can we just talk about their service? So friendly and swift. They are quick about cleaning up dishes and bringing out the next course like an orchestrated dance. I celebrated my birthday here twice in a row. They gave a hand written birthday note. Every staff member wished me a happy birthday. The dessert came with a birthday candle. Even the check is given in a little notebook where guests can leave a message. These are many details that make guests feel special dining here. The place is laidback and classy. Trestle is so incredible that my friend and I have started a tradition to come here every year to celebrate my birthday. See you next year, if not sooner. read more

Trestle is a lovely restaurant that feels like fine dining and a new experience every time. The menu changes weekly or monthly. The staff is incredible - friendly, clean tables between courses, clear tables efficiently, and are aware of when you may have a question or request before you even ask. We went twice, and we loved most of the dishes. Their drink menu is extensive and also changes. It is a lot of fun to try the many beers they offer. Our favorite dishes so far: duck confeit, risotto, jasmine panna cotta, and risotto. These dishes were great! And absolutely delicious! However, we had the chicken Marsala for Mother's Day, and it was not good. It was dry and did not pair well with the peas at all. It was a dry, bland texture with a chunky, bland texture. The other option that night was a fish, and that was delicious. I would return depending on the menu. The first time we went, it was for our anniversary dinner. They left us a card and decorated our dessert. It felt very special. Most of the food is delicious, and the restaurant is beautiful. read more

Great food and exceptional service. They treated us so well, took our backpacks, wiped down the table after each course, and wrote me a little happy birthday sign/note. I ordered the Kale salad, the salmon, the bacon risotto, and the ice cream trio for dessert. The salad was very good, but too heavily dressed in oil. The bacon risotto was just ok...it just had way too much going on. The salmon and steak were both very good, though the sauce for the salmon was just ok. Overall, we really enjoyed our meal and I would come back...but I was not blown away. read more

Had the most phenomenal 4-course meal at Trestle during the San Francisco Restaurant Week 2023. As noted by their webpage, Trestle offers a changing prix-fixe menu for about $39 per person. For restaurant week, they offered a $45 per person menu of the same 3-items (appetizer, entrée, and dessert) but with an option of 1.5-2 oz. truffle shaving on one item. Both my dinner date and I opted for that getting the shavings on the shared bonus pasta dish. For the night, they had two options for their $12 supplement - the Butternut Squash Risotto and the Shrimp Pappardelle. We decided to order both and share. My starter, the Cauliflower Soup, was a great appetizer that truly made me ready for the meal ahead. Well balanced, creamy and velvet-y, perfect for the fall. Out of the two pasta supplements, each superb, I slightly enjoyed the Shrimp Pappardelle a bit more. The long ribbons of pasta paired with the roasted garlic cream sauce and nicely pan fried shrimp was heavenly. I quite enjoyed it a bit more than the delightful Braised Beef Short Rib Entrée. The Beef Short Rib had a slight Chinese cuisine nostalgia to it due to the sauce that was very home-y. The beef was melt in your mouth and the piece that I got was very tender and fatty, without being overwhelming. Nicely paired with a rutabaga mash that was creamy without being overly heavy. I was a fan with my Malted Dark Chocolate Ice Cream Sundae. The chef definitely made this perfectly balanced with it's nice nutty finish without any one item - it came with brown butter blondie pieces, dulce de leche ribbons, and peanut brittle pieces; overpowering another. I look forward to ordering the pasta during my next visit. Absolute YES to dining here again. read more

This was my second time dining at Trestle, and I'm honestly shocked at how much the quality has declined. My first visit in April was much better -- the food was flavorful, the service attentive, and the overall experience enjoyable. That's why I decided to come back. Unfortunately, this time was a completely different story. Trestle advertises a fixed 4-course menu for $52, but when the bill arrived, there was a mandatory 20% service charge, plus an extra fee of around $8 that was never explained. I also ordered a single glass of wine for $15, and somehow ended up paying over $100 for one person. None of these added charges were communicated upfront, which felt misleading. The food was underwhelming across the board: The bell pepper soup was bland and forgettable -- no seasoning, no flavor. The lamb pasta was okay, but nothing special. The trout with corn-stuffed pepper was poorly thought out. The pepper and corn completely drowned out the fish, which was tasteless and underseasoned. The fig crostata with ice cream was almost inedible. The crostata was too salty, overwhelmed by balsamic vinegar, and the ice cream was watery and lacked any creaminess. On top of that, service was slow, and we had to remind our server that we were still waiting. The atmosphere was chaotic. Tables are packed way too close together, making it extremely noisy and uncomfortable. We had to shout just to talk to each other -- far from the kind of setting you'd expect for a prix-fixe dinner at this price point. I left feeling disappointed, frustrated, and overcharged. Given how much better my first experience was, this decline is really disappointing. I'm requesting a refund or at least a direct response from management regarding the extra charges and the poor quality of both food and service.
