Overall the dining experience was pleasant and the food delicious. The service overall was top notch, except for the one server who took our order. He had an unpleasant demeanor as if he didn't want to be there. He was curt and didn't offer the little extras like sweetener with my tea. He seemed annoyed when I asked for my steak medium well and said they could only do either medium rare or well done. I picked well done which led the the steak to have a chewy and bitter unpleasant flavor (everything else was really great). It only takes the one server to taint the experience. The place is a bit cramped and the automatic 20% gratuity and 6% mandatory healthcare fee and regular taxes puts you at about 37% of what the meal costs. The prix fix idea is wonderful and it seems like a good deal, but not after the almost 40% in extras. They did give me a special birthday note which was a nice touch. read more

Solid food for a solid price. It's a small space with a nice ambiance and energy. My friend and I shared the courses to try a little of everything. Thoughts on the current menu: Potato chowder 4/5 | Waldorf salad 3.5/5 The salad was fine, solid. But the chowder was way more worth. The bacon pieces were yummy, the roe was a nice surprise. Very creamy and a great start to the meal. Pappardelle bolognese 5/5 We didn't try the risotto, but this pappardelle was the highlight of my meal. It was super unique and refreshing, with a nice light crunch of the breadcrumb. If I'm being picky -- I feel like the flavor could be turned up a notch to be truly spectacular. And some of the pasta pieces were stuck together. But still, 5/5 since I just loved the flavor. Salmon 5/5 | Steak 3/5 That crispy salmon skin with the cauliflower puree was amazing. Butter gem salad: 3.5/5 the flavors were good, but too heavy on the dressing which made this feel like a really fatty salad. I did not like the cheese that they selected to go with it either. Pea Risotto: 2/5 bleghhh had to send it back once because it was over salted (my partner also tried it, it was hard to eat). I hate sending food back but after a while I decided it was best to send back since I really couldn't get myself to take another bite. It was good the second time around and they didn't flinch when I asked if there was something we could do. Appreciate the service there, but even the second version was not anything to rave about. It was a pretty basic risotto with peas in it and was underwhelming, not very interesting. Chicken with glazed carrots: 3.5/5 My partner got this dish and really liked his chicken, but the piece of chicken was very small. The rest of the dish was pretty plain without interesting flavors. There was a greek yogurt that was unflavored but the nuts were a nice touch. He said this was decent. Dessert! Butter milk cake: 3/5 A nice piece of cake with some tangy jam and delicious nuts. I liked it but it was less imaginative than I would hope for at a place like this. Butterscotch ice cream with toffee: 4/5 I know this wasn't the exact dessert but I forgot the name and that's what it tasted like. My partner really enjoyed this. Overall we had a good time because the ambiance was romantic, and the food was well presented. I obviously wouldn't go here again since the food didn't wow me but I think the pricing is great for the experience and I'm still happy I tried it. I noticed that the prices had gone up a few dollars for the prix fixe menu, and it is now $42. However, for three courses that were pretty filling, it's a nice affordable option if you're feeling fancy. I came here on a date night, so we both got to try basically everything on the menu as we ordered different items, and this was a good idea because I liked different things on the menu, and if I had stuck with only what I ordered, it would have been less enjoyable. Because we tried so many things, I will only list my favorite parts of the meal - the duck confit, the mushrooms on the salmon dish, and the pudding dessert. Although the duck was drier than I would have liked, it was really flavorful and mixing the flavors around on the dish was really fun to try. The acidity in the salmon dish really enhanced the mushrooms, and it was light and tingly in my mouth. I loved the dessert because it was light and airy, and was the perfect complement to a heartier dinner. The food didn't blow my mind, but I liked the ambience. Hard to imagine a better Friday night date spot. We've come here multiple times, mostly just two of us, sometimes with friends. Each time we would leave with a happy but not overly full tummy. The food is always good -- always creative, always amazing ingredients, always full of fun flavors. Wines are good here too, they also don't overwhelm you with options. During the San Francisco Restaurant Week in April, you can find some steals and deals. Back at their original home on Jackson St., Trestle's constantly changing prix fixe menu continues to highlight seasonal produce like the short seasoned spring peas in their creamy risotto that is included as a shared course in their Restaurant Week menu. With a choice between two for each course, we took advantage, and each ordered one so we could have a taste of almost the entire offering. I preferred the creamy cauliflower soup over the spinach salad, for the choice of shared pasta, the spring pea risotto was a solid choice and both entrees were perfectly cooked. The desserts were just okay. The Bay Laurel Custard was a bit too plain for me and the chocolate cream pie was not what I expected as it was more of a deconstructed pie. I was able to try everything on the menu and recommend the following: - ask for the bread and delicious butter - soup/salad - both were excellent but the soup was something else (rich and creamy and delicious). I especially liked the croutons. - I preferred the risotto over the bolognese (smaller than I thought we'd get) - I loved the branzino. It was light yet flavorful and the veggies paired nicely with the fish - get the chocolate cake! Service was great. Ambiance was okay - almost felt like a pop-up restaurant. It's so refreshing. Full disclosure: I have never been a mushroom person and the mushroom pieces are large. One was huge but it went down well! Braised Beef Short Rib The meat is incredibly tender, but I didn't love the flavor nor that of the mashed potatoes. Could it be the olive oil in the potatoes? I'm not sure. The star to me was the broccolini. The sauce paired so well with the perfectly cooked vegetable. They are all actually really good if eaten all together in one bite. The best way to describe this place is "fine dining on a budget". They have a prix-fixe menu and I believe their dishes alternate from time to time. In every course, you get to choose from 2-3 options and I was amazed by all of the dishes I ordered. The fish was well-crusted with a savory sauce. It was my first time eating risotto and I didn't know what to expect, but the entire dish was absolutely delicious. They aren't bad, and the cook on each item were done well. They have a lot of classic dishes, as well as less eaten flavors (i.e. guava) seen in the desserts. There are pasta options to add on for $12 each to share as well. Add them on if you want to be a bit more full. There's free bread if you ask for it. The bread was amazing. Sorry I didn't take pictures but the food but it was so good I just didn't have time for picture taking. The ambiance of the restaurant is so nice. We came back to Trestle again for another annual holiday dinner date with a few friends and as expected, they exceeded my expectations. If there is any item on the menu I'm suspicious about or questionable about ordering, 100% of the time they have proved me wrong with their eclectic choice of food pairings and ingridents! Everything on prefixes is delicious and good, I would recommend if you come in a group to divide and conquer so you can try EVERYTHING. What I love about coming here is that I always try something new or something I most likely would not order at any other restaurant. The chef's know what they're doing when they're creating these food concoctions! They raised the price $3 for the prefixes from last year, but I think that's justifiable given the high quality of ingredients and EXCEPTIONAL service. Trestle has been on my Yelp bookmark for years, yet it was only SF Restaurant Week I finally dine in for the first time. If you plan to dine in during SFRW, reservations are a must thru OpenTable. From what I could tell, I do not think walk-ins were accommodated because they were all booked for the night. Other times outside of SFRW, you could try your luck on walk-ins, but still, reserve if you can. This is definitely fine dining in a rather small intimate space. Ambiance was a bit casual, but the service we received was wonderful. Attentive, the willingness to accommodate my picky palette to some extent, friendly -- you can tell the servers go above and beyond to give you the best dining experience possible without giving "too much" attention, which is my preference. All the food we ordered from the menu was absolutely exceptionally delicious from beginning to until we finished! Price-wise, it is so unheard of a 4-course prix-fixe dinner (includes the pasta) for $45/person during SFRW. Their regular menu pricing is $42/person for a 3-course prix fixe dinner with a $12 pasta supplement. For pricey SF inflation dining, I would think this price is a crazy steal! Some tips aside from making reservations to dine: Be sure to ask for the bread!!! The bread (with butter) is served upon request and you can get one more refill on them. The portions themselves should provide satiety, but if not, eat the bread as needed. What I really love about Trestle is the 20% service fee is already included (very well deserved, if not more). They even circle that portion on the receipt to inform you, yet I noticed there was not a space on the receipt itself to add any additional tips if you choose to do so (tips are not required or requested). We were 4 people so we got to try all the selections along with the pasta supplements. TLDR: Good food, but subpar service. Food: $42 prix fixe menu for a 3-course meal with the option to add a $12 supplement (2 pasta options). I went to Trestle with 2 of my friends and one of them was vegetarian. Even though most of their menu items included meat or fish, the restaurant was able to accommodate our friend's dietary restriction. Among the three of us, we were able to try most of their prix fixe menu items. Of the two appetizers, the butternut squash soup was better than the falafel salad. The soup was creamy and delicious, but the salad was okay. The salad looked underwhelming, and it came with very all pieces of falafel. Of the two supplement pastas, the roasted carrot rissoto was better than the creamy cauliflower fusilli. The risotto was savory, creamy, and well seasoned. The cauliflower in the fusilli was a bit undercooked, so the crunchiness of the cauliflower didn't really go well with the rest of the pasta. The crispy duck confit was decent. For a main dish, the portion was definitely smaller. The sauce that it came with was good. Butterscotch pudding was the highlight of the dinner, and it was one of the best butterscotch desserts I've had. All the elements of the dessert paired well. I could have easily gone for 2-3 more servings of that. The white chocolate corn cookie was a nice touch, and it really complimented the butterscotch flavor. The dark chocolate cake had too much going on, and we could barely taste any dark chocolate. The cardamom flavor was more prominent than any other flavor. Given the small seating area, it was very noisy the whole time, and we were having a hard time listening to each other. The staff was very pushy. I believe that the restaurant has a 90-minute time limit per table. Instead of constantly checking in on us to see if we are done and taking our plates away while we are still eating, they should have focused more on reducing the 10-15 minute wait time between each course. Note: The bill already includes the tip, so please keep that in mind when you get your check. There is a paid parking garage right next to the restaurant so parking shouldn't be a problem. read more

Good value for a pre-fixe meal in SF! I got the Spring Pea Salad, Curried California Amberjack, and the Chocolate Doughnut Sundae for dessert. We shared the Broccoli and Burrata Risotto as a table. They also brought out Firebrand bread out for us. The bread and the spread was fantastic. The salad was fresh and light. The amberjack was just a tad bit dryer than I would have liked, but not too bad. Loved the anchovies in the risotto. It wasn't fishy and I felt it added extra depth. The dessert was just okay. The doughnut wasn't as pillowy as I would have liked. I didn't end up finishing it. Portions were just right. I left feeling satisfied but not overstuffed or wanting more. Overall, I had a good dining experience and for the price, the food met my expectations. A minor downside was that dinner felt a bit rushed. I didn't feel like I could take my time with my dish before they brought out the next one. read more

A Beautiful establishment with detailed service. Waiter/ waitress were quick to remove plates and utensils between courses . Every course was beautifully laid out on the plate like a piece of artwork and each piece, plate, had its own accent mark that distinguished it from other restaurants. Very nice little space close to trans American pyramid. Offer prix fixe menu only 42$ that's really interesting because they also change the menu very frequently and seasonally. Recommend go with a friend or for couple then you can try all the dishes that they offer. The service really nice and the food was come out fast. No need to wait long in between. Alright , let's get it to the food First : salad and soup , salad was really refreshing, has many texture and flavor and the soup was warm and cozy. Then we ordered the supplement dishes : the risotto with beet and smoked salmon was good but the salmon was really salty : the pasta probably the best dish for me And for the main : deep fried pork was reminded me like Japanese tonkatsu : the black cod was perfectly cooked but the flavor was too subtle for me Dessert : Ice cream was my favorite over the Panna Cotta I think this place is really nice for a night out and you could come pretty often since they change the menu frequently and the price is good!!! I caught up with a friend for dinner at Trestle and we had a great experience. They have a nightly three-course pre fixe menu for $42 which is a great deal! For my three courses I chose: 1] Cauliflower Soup served with smoked salmon croquette and dill cream. 2] Pan Seared Bistro Steak served with kale, onion, horseradish jus. 3] Olive Oil Cake with marinated strawberry, tarragon Cream, and rhubarb Jam. We both opted to add on a supplemental pasta for $12 - I went with the Spring Pea Cavatelli and my friend opted for the Red Beet Risotto. Each and every dish was delicious, beautifully put together and presented, and the flavors were great. My favorite between the two pasta supplements was surprisingly the red beet risotto (I'm not the biggest fan of beet) but this dish was amazing. Trestle, you did it! I went to Trestle with two friends during SF restaurant week. We all agree that we had a wonderful dining experience at the restaurant. We coordinated and ordered everything on the restaurant week menu. It's a thoughtfully designed menu. The 4 courses have something refreshing and fruity, like the persimmon salad, something creamy , earthy and warm-hearted, like the butternut squash risotto with mushroom and crispy pork, and something savory and indulgent, like the braised beef ribs, and something healthy and tasty, like the crispy salmon. We enjoyed every dishes. For me, I would give the spotlight to the risotto , as the best of all! And of course the desserts! The Panna cotta is our favorite. It's creamy and slightly jiggly and melt in you mouth. The crunchy nuts mix is a nice contrast in texture. It's just adding more fun. Love love love. The staff at restaurant was friendly and helpful. They offered to stored my large ikea shopping bag ,and they were very flexible when I mentioned if we can switch to table more inside as I don't like the cold air coming from the front door.
