I always marvel at how so many people can have so many different experiences and review accordingly. I believe every restaurant deserves 2-3 chances, 3 only if it came recommended by someone with whose palate I trust. A chef can have an off night, same with servers and bartenders, so with that said, I have eaten at Tsnaumi's locations 30 times perhaps. Every time, I left very satisfied from beginning to end. I am partial too the Mt. P location, as the bartenders there are great, they literally work any downtown club (and do) with ease, high volume is of no issue here. I would of given more stars but our "hibachi chicken" taste more like Chicken Teriyaki. My son really liked the Steak Hibachi and there wasn't a heavy sauce on it like the chicken. They didn't put out salads or soup in the order. We used Uber Eats since we are at home due to the virus. I would suggest them allowing to remove items or tweak orders. They don't allow this on the UberEats app. Due to not being able to tweak our orders one person in our family couldn't eat anything from them. He is allergic and they put the meat on top of the veggies in the hibachi dishes. It gives the illusion of a lot more meat but it's swamped with veggies under it. Overall the rice was decent! I would've loved to have rated Tsunami the 5*'s it would've earned. Upon entry, the hostess seemed flustered (we've all been there) so we disregard even though the absence of greeting. Our silver ware had something crusty (sorry no pic) and were told they use Lemons to clean their silverware (never heard of this). The food smelled amazing, the appetizers are worth it. However, when I ordered the seafood basil, it was missing 2 ingredients that was never mentioned at the time of order (not even the server knew). The ingredients listed (scallops, shrimp, mussels, squid and greens). The mussels and squid were not there..BUT, our server was so sincere and apologized. Im willing to give them a second chance. We came in to try them out during HH to see if we would like their sushi. We tried several rolls - Sex on the Beach, Volcano, Angry Dragon, and Triple Tuna. The standout was Angry Dragon but they were all pretty good. Not the best sushi I have had in the Low Country but the HH deal made up for that. We also had the Tuna Tataki which was OK but oddly sauced which took to much away from the tuna. We also had the calamari which seemed store bought and not something they actually made. Next time I would pass on the Calamari. The inside of Tsunami is well decorated with the feel of a high end Asian Restaurant. The restaurant was very clean and the service was pretty good. I had a really great experience here tonight! My friend and I shared some edamame which was covered in sea salt and delicious. Then I had the eel and dynamite roll - both were awesome! The wasabi was really HOT. Use it sparingly. I enjoyed my Riesling and our server Max did a nice job checking in on us, without overdoing it. He even brought us a free fried cheesecake after learning it was my birthday. How cool! Max had no problems splitting the check for us. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised at this sushi joint. We sat at the bar & watched the chefs in action. The place was packed & we availed of the half price appetizers along with a Yelp discount for Check in . The service & sushi fantastic fresh & on point. We had the cerviche. It was amazing. We had three different sushi selections & they were all great. I'm surprised at how satiated I was & of course the bonus being that it's all very healthy. No grease no carbs. Loved it. Used to love this place, sadly it's slowly going down hill. Being a military family, my husband and I went to Tsunami regularly, often on military special night. Not only have the portions gotten smaller but the management has taken a turn for the worse. Tonight we were "informed" they only offer the discounts to the active duty member. When we questioned the change in policy the manager she told us that had always been their policy. Which we know is not the case. So, when I mentioned she had been our manager many times before she insisted she never works on Tuesdays. Which was in fact a lie. And was further validated by a server. For a company to change a policy is understandable, to lie to the faces of religious customers is terrible business practice. I used to recommend this place to new people in the area, for friend gatherings, spouse socials, etc. Never again! Don't waste your time, this place won't be open much longer. Visiting Mt. Pleasant for our business and found this restaurant near our hotel. It was bit early for dinner, but we went there anyway. We ordered two virgin cocktails($3/each), Salmon nigiri($5/2piece), Yellowtail nigiri($5/2piece), Sweet Shrimp nigiri($6/2piece) and Crazy Friday($11). And while we were eating Crazy Friday, we found out that they have special offer for all rolls 50% Off when you order any rolls between 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm Monday through Sunday. Their hostess and waiter didn't tell us that offer, so we confirmed that. And we also got Free Classic sushi roll offer because of Yelp Check-in. Their nigiri was great! Seafoods are so fresh. I just hope that their hostess or waiter tells us about 50% Off rolls at first. And I was not happy about they don't serve deep fried Sweet-shrimp head. For those who are first-timers to Tsunami, this is a delicious restaurant with very good value and taste, offering a vast variety of Japanese, Thai, Chinese, and Asian fusion dishes. They have various locations of Tsunami all throughout the great state of South Carolina, and for good reason - they have proven time and time again that their food is good, a good value, and is consistent (it is the same every time - not one flavor one time you order it and then a totally different flavor on another occasion - we all know those places and it usually is up to whoever is the chef that night). Tsunami is not one of those places where you get a different product every time - it is always good, and always fresh. Did I also mention that their takeout is great?! They have it down to a science, especially in these times of the COVID-19/Coronavirus pandemic. I have ordered from them several times both before and during the pandemic, and they have always had a great system in place for their takeout/pickup/to-go orders. It was good before the virus and is even better now, since you just walk up to the outdoor window where someone on the other side of a plexiglass divider assists you and will hand you your sealed brown paper bag. Talk about contactless and safe! Most recently, I ordered a takeout dinner from them last night. I placed my order online through their website, which has a very simple and organized system online for placing orders. Their menu online (I am also posting them as photos with this review) is 6 full pages of a variety of different foods and tastes for everyone, accompanied by the name of the dish (the sushi dishes have some especially creative names), detailed descriptions of the dish, as well as pictures of each dish. I had one tab of my internet browser open with the menu and the other with the online ordering system where I placed my order. It was very easy and I received a confirmation email with not only a receipt, but also a discount code to use for 15% off of my next takeout order! The takeout time was quick also, at only 20 minutes. When I picked up my order at Tsunami, an employee promptly and kindly assisted me in paying and retrieving my sealed brown bag of delicious takeout which was stapled shut. He thanked me for choosing them for takeout and urged me to return also. He was very professional, quick, helpful and kind and treated me and the other 10 people who were there for takeout orders this way. Now on to the review of the food...The Steak & Shrimp Hibachi was delicious overall. The fried rice was nice and chewy and the grains were separated and there were no clumps - the fried egg was tasty and so were the carrots and peas in there too. The steak was cooked rare as I requested in my order, but some parts were chewy bits of fat. I don't mind, as I usually eat the fat anyways when I eat steak, but I thought it would be worth mentioning to those who do not and also who might think that for $22.00, you should not be getting fat. But, like I said, I do not mind and enjoyed the steak, shrimp, rice, and hibachi veggies also - they even included extra Yum Yum White sauce as I requested, and did so free of charge! The only other note worth mentioning about the hibachi entrees is they do not come with soup or salad, as I did not receive either with my entree. Other places offer either and some restaurants even include both soup and salad with large combo entrees such as this one. But, it was alright since I also ordered a few different sushi rolls and entrees: Highway 17 Roll was delicious and the tempura eel and fresh salmon were very flavorful. Old Bay fried roll was also very tasty - the batter on the outside was light, but held everything together - the crab on the inside was plentiful lump crab meat and the Old Bay mayo gave it a nice zing and aftertaste. The Maki Entree was also great, offering lots of pieces of yellowtail, tuna, and salmon - the seaweed on the outside was nice and crisp and absorbed the soy sauce wonderfully - the wasabi paired well with the soy sauce and these, especially the salmon, which had a nice sweet aftertaste. Overall, I would recommend this place to anyone looking to get a quick and tasty Asian meal. Whether it be hibachi, pan fried noodles, soups, fried rice, or cold dishes such as sushi or spring rolls, this place has it all! The variety of foods offered, the tasty and fresh flavors of these foods, the consistency of the food, and the great quality of the service are all reasons why I eat here, why I keep returning, and why I recommend Tsunami Mt. Pleasant (and any location for that matter - their Columbia location in the Vista area is an especially fun one). I'd give 2.5 stars if I could but... I ordered takeout so will only review the food, though they did appear to have a nice little patio area even if you're still just kind of in a strip mall. (Hello, Mt. Pleasant!) Anyway, the rolls weren't all that great. They were heavy handed with their bbq sauce or whatever the brown sauce is they squirted over everything. The eel roll was mediocre and the bbq sauce was not unexpected. The shrimp tempura was sub-par and doesn't usually have bbq sauce on it though this one did. The cucumber roll was fine, even without the bbq sauce. The yellowtail roll was fine. The salmon skin roll was not good with bbq sauce and thick chewy salmon skin instead of the normal light flaky skin. The salmon, tuna and eel nigiri were all very decent cuts so next time I would probably stick with that and skip the rolls, or at least any roll that comes with bbq sauce. I'm not dying to come back to Tsunami but the prices are decent and it's not like there's a ton of sushi options. So there. read more
