Located in Washington Heights, this Thai restaurant is a hole in the wall type of the place. The seating area is quite small and a little run-down looking. There is no public restroom here. But if you can look past all these things, you'll find some affordable, filling, and tasty Thai food here! As a Columbia grad student, I've worked with Tung Thong Thai to cater some student organization events and they were awesome in coordinating that with me. I have also dined in before and service is nice and fast. Would I bring people here to impress them? Absolutely not. I have a wheat allergy and although the Pad Thai is made with rice noodles and they use Tamari they do not make adjustments in the kitchen to prevent cross contamination. This is a great, affordable, and scrumptious Thai restaurant that is a go-to in Washington Heights in my opinion. I came in on a weekday evening (around 4pm, and it was empty. The service was extremely nice, and very responsive. If we needed anything, we just looked over and they would be ready. The indoor area does not have much seating space, and I wish more people can fit inside, but the decor and pretty nice and compact. It was a hot summer day, so having cooling-AC was quite refreshing. I was craving some drunken noodles, and thought they came out extremely well. Portions were quite large. I had enough to satisfy me for lunch the next day. They packed my food for me so that was a great and pleasant surprise, when I told them the meal was too large. It was not costly at all, and provided me with two meals. It was full of flavor, and each bit had me wanting more. There was also quite a good amount of meat included in my meal. Filling was all finely chopped, nice flavor, three puffs in the order. Dee-lish. The order was $7.95. Panang curry... Really tender chicken, string beans, and hunks of tender carrots. The depth of flavor was delightful, with the coconut milk front and center, without masking the breadth of the Panang curry. Portion size was very generous, enough for three meals for me! Vegetarian options are clearly marked on the menu, making it easy to order. There's a pretty decent range of food to get. Portion sizes are fairly generous. The prices are about what you'd expect to spend on Thai food that's using good quality ingredients, and has enough food to last like a couple of meals (because it's so rich). They're not skimping on the coconut milk! That said, although the spice level was nice (it wasn't too spicy, nor was it too mild), I found that the sweetness was a little heavy handed for my liking. It's not that it outright tasted sweet at all. You could definitely taste the other spices in there. However, the red curry that I got was a lot sweeter than I'm used to. When I've had it before, there is a tiny bit of sugar added to balance out the flavors in the dish, but it's like a little bit. This one I could taste sugar in the sauce. Nothing that made me unable to finish my food. It still tasted very nice, and I did finish my meal. Just something to watch out for if you're super sensitive to sweetness in your food like I am. Nobody else who ate with us had a complaint about it, so take that as you will. read more

Since I was a huge fan of the 181st location, I gave this location a try for delivery. The food was mostly good -- 4 stars overall. Great beef drunken noodles. The only issues were the calamari & green curry. The calamari was fried squid, but not the part of the squid that is typically used for calamari. It was large, very chewy chunks of fried tentacles ... it's like if you ordered a steak and got ground beef. Is it beef? Sure, but it's not what you ordered. The green curry with shrimp was delicious and the shrimp portion was good for the price! My only gripe is that the curry was very runny & its texture was more akin to a soup than a curry. I would give another curry a shot jic this was an off day, but would not get the calamari again. All-in-all, good portions, flavor and prices. And fast delivery! read more

I always get the drunken noodle combo which comes with a delicious salty cup of soup and a choice of side. I usually get the salad to balance out the rest of the meal. Found this spot when I was craving for some Thai and didn't want to go that far in the neighborhood. Gave it a try during their lunch special. The flavors are spot on! And the lunch deals are affordable! I like it so much I'll come even if it's not for lunch. Staff is super friendly and I'm pretty sure they'll start to recognize me soon. I think Tung Thong is a solid place for takeout/ delivery, especially if you go with their lunch special, which comes with an entree and side of your choice for less than ~$10. I tried the Drunken Noodle with Larb Gai and thought that it was a good sized portion and tasted great. This was during COVID 19 delivery. Best packaged delivery I've received! Arrived in perfect condition and quickly. I ordered spicy basil chicken, which was pleasantly spicy and full of grilled veggies. I also ordered Thai spring rolls, which were hot and crispy. The chicken curry puffs were my favorite! Seasoned so well, light flaky outer crust, delicious! The sauces with the spring rolls and curry puffs were both really flavorful. I think their drunken noodles are some of my favorite in New York. I would definitely recommend going for their lunch specials which are $10 and get you a main dish and an appetizer! At 9.95, their lunch specials, which come with choice of a side are perfectly portioned in terms of a mid-day burst of flavor that's not so heavy that it knocks you into stupor. For me tho, sometimes when I'm still in the area around dinner time, I actually have cravings for their pad see ew noodles- and I ALWAYS get it with their mock duck. Portion is huge and I always have leftovers for either a late night snack or next day accompaniment to lunch (others would probably legit say they can only eat half per meal but I eat a lot). Also, I have to point out that in terms of value, the mock duck is the same price as the chicken, tofu, or vegetables options - usually, restaurants charge an extra $1, $2, or even $3 for mock duck, so that's definitely a steal. The texture of the noodles, the sweetness of the sauce cut by the slight bitter of the Chinese broccoli - everything about their pad see ew is perfect. read more

Ordered delivery twice from here in one week, and both times left me wanting to try another dish to see how delicious everything is! The delivery packaging is pretty solid--the food is still pretty hot on arrival and even the bag the containers are in is clean. I've tried the Sriracha Noodles, which are sauteed flat noodles with Sriracha, egg, broccoli, onions, and bean sprouts. You also get the choice of adding tofu, mixed veggies, chicken, or vegetarian duck at no extra cost, or add different meats (beef, shrimp, squid, mixed seafood, or duck) for varying prices. And wow, the Sriracha noodles do provide a kick, but its flavor is blended so seamlessly with the flat noodles, egg, and vegetables. The portion is pretty large and there's a nice balance of noodles, vegetables, and tofu. The pad see ew is my favorite though. Similar to the Sriracha noodles you have the option of anything from tofu (what I ordered for both) to duck. The flat noodles are so savory with the black bean sauce and everything is soaked in flavor! I didn't request any changes and this dish was not spicy at all, so I definitely recommend this for those who can't tolerate as much spice. For delivery this place gets 4-5 stars. Dine in i have to knock it down to three from my experience yesterday. My aunt came to visit me in the neighborhood and wanted to have lunch so we stopped by Tung Thai. They loved the little restaurant and all the cute decor and how the lunch special was so cheap. We ordered three lunch specials : Pad See Eww, Pad Thai and Curry, and three ice teas. All of our food came promptly except for our Pad See Eww. The restaurant is small enough that they can glance to see if we got all our food but they never noticed our third person had no food. After about half way through our food we decided to ask since she might have forgot to put the order in. So now here is the part why I have to dock off 2 stars. She did not forget our order, however she served it to the wrong table, and the dish was sitting at the other table sitting in the middle for a good 20 minutes with 6 girls talking talking over it. The waiter literally takes to food and drops it off at our table saying the other table said they didn't touch it and left before we could ask form a new one. The food was cold already and who knew how much spit was on it or maybe none but at least offer. Left a very awkward unsatisfied feeling. My cousin was nice enough and decided to eat the food after 5min of staring at it. Overall food is still good price is good, room for improvement for service. read more

I've been to TTT well over 50 times over the past 3.5 years, and I can say without hesitation that I've never had a bad meal from here. Whether it's spring rolls, Thai dumplings, pad thai, pad see ew...the food has always been fresh and delicious. As a bonus, service is always FAST, both when dining in and getting food to go. In football, there are some running backs who can break off big runs for 20+ yards in spectacular fashion. But when they're not making those big plays, they'll get stopped for zero or even negative yardage. Then there are the workhorses - running backs that aren't as flashy, and won't get the big gains, but who will consistently provide positive yardage, 4 or 5 yards on almost every single run. I ordered the Lunch Special Fried Rice with Vegetables, and Lunch Special Drunken Noodles with Vegetables, which were both pretty good considering each portion was only $7.90 including tax. I placed an order via Grubhub and wanted to make sure that the restaurant received my online order. I called the restaurant and the lady who picked up told me she did not receive my order and then hung up on me. I WAS SHOOOKKK! What kind of person hangs up on a customer? I called again, told them my name and then they said they received my order. I asked if they could read back my order to me just to make sure they actually did receive it since they previously said they hadn't received it. And then she threw me a snarky "you ordered what you ordered!" then hung up again. #rudemuch I was told that the two ladies who run this location (169th) are sisters who work for their parents' restaurant so perhaps they're just two unhappy ladies forced into this situation.
