Came here for dinner as I've never truly had a genuine Turkish food experience, but moreso something similar to Mediterranean / Greek. We ordered the below: Hummus Imam Bayildi Stuffed Grape Leaves Salmon Bowl w/ Bulgur Beyti Kebab I will say it is a bit helpful if you come with someone who has experience ordering Turkish food or a background in the culture. Was a bit bummed when ordering to hear that they ran out of rice as I was going to order 50% bulgur, 50% rice for the base of my bowl however it was a nice way to fully try bulgur. The dining process is interesting and a little confusing for some-we had initially made reservations but you can also just walk in and order at the counter. If such is the case, I think it can be a bit odd to have a "Reservations" button on the website. Food wise, the salmon was a bit dry / crunchy than I anticipated, but overall everything was quite flavorful and fresh! Appreciate that the hummus came with flatbread since some restaurants upcharge you in addition for it. I liked my experience that I ended up ordering some pastries to go so that the rest of my family could try them: Choco Acma Patato Acma Sujuk & Mozzarella Pogaca The pastries seemed unique but sadly the entirety of the pastries were just 99% bread with very minimal filling. I like that Turquaz is open late and offers everything from coffee / pastries / actual food / dessert, but that doesn't mean they're good at everything.

Turquaz never disappoints. Had tickets to a show at the Orpheum theater and stopped for dinner before the show. Delicious food including vegetarian options, very reasonably priced. Good portions and fast service. I look forward to the next theater play just so I can stop and grab a bite At Turquaz. This time I got the stuffed grape leaves and the Kofte and also got to try the Pasha salad. Everything is fresh and delicious. Highly recommend

5 stars! The lahmachun was one of the best i have ever had! 1st time here and there is so much I wanted to try. Huge variety of cakes, baklava and turkish delights. My eye were bigger than my stomach. Ambiance was lovely. Beautiful teal colors inside and such a cute space. The staff was nice and accommodating. I would definitely recommend giving it a try! Bonus: Get the Chocolate Sponge Cake! Omg, so good. Rich looking but not overly sweet. You'll thank me!

Falafel wrap with hummus. It was ok. I guess i was expecting hummus to be smooth and more flavorful. The french fries were flavorful, eat when hot, taste better. The choice was pickles or french fries. My eating mate forgot to ask for dressing on the side. Salad seems to wilt faster when drowned in dressing. The salad looked very colorful. The coffee looked yummy. I really like their inside decor. So calming. Help yourself with water. Order at the cashier or QR code at the table. Free validated parking for 1.5 hours at the 8th street entrance.

Desserts for Dinner is a temptation awaiting us as we view the array of sweets...Turkish Delights, baklavas, pastries, cakes and more...the selection overwhelms us with its parade of delicious possibilities. The Mosaic slice and the Dubai Cup made takeout memories for us today! ...after lunching on the Lamb Shish plate and the Chicken Donner bowl with hot Turkish tea. The Hospitality of service at Turquaz reigns supreme with the amazing staff. Thank you!

What a cute restaurant. Looking at the images/reviews I was under the impression that it was a cafe that happens to have some food options but I was proven wrong. This is a restaurant with a large menu. We tried this place due to its very convenient location across from the Orpheum theater. Still unsure of how seating works. When we entered we were asked if we had a reservation, which we didn't and got sat at a table. You can either order from your table with a QR code or go up to the counter and order. When we ordered at the counter another party was attempting to sit at our table. So unclear what the expectations of ordering/claiming tables are. i tried the (kofte)meatball bowl and I truly believe I ordered the wrong thing. It was okay, the meat was a little too red for me and wasn't very flavorful and the salad was different than the image online. I also tried the (kavurma)braised meat and that was delicious and tender. Other tables entrees looked much more appetizing than the kofte so I can't wait to try something different next time. The desserts were delicious and I am still thinking of the delicious cake we ate. Note- if you order turkish tea be sure to request it in a glass mug. Ours came in a ceramic one. Overall good food with a cute cafe like interior and quick service.

This is a cozy lunch spot that serves very flavorful cuisine. I've had several dishes but I like the wraps and salads best. Service is friendly. The value isn't the best but the food is fresh and reliable. It's an excellent work lunch spot if you're nearby.

Food 5/5 Atmosphere 5/5 for the neighborhood and for the concept (casual) Ambiance 5/5. I came here with a friend for a late lunch on a Saturday and the place was pretty empty but the food looked amazing. I love lamb so I got the lamb shish plate with bulgar wheat with tomato paste; it also came with salad and yogurt for $30 post tax. My friend got a chicken kebab sandwich which came with fries and was more reasonably $20. However the quality was top, all the ingredients were fresh and healthy. We were both super impressed given that SOMA doesn't have a lot of food options, and I had picked this based on the map location between the two of us. Around 5pm families started pouring in for the dinner rush and it was clear that we came in between rushes. The cafe is very clean, nicely decorated, and spacious. There was a little sign saying thank you in Turkish at the counter. They have a bunch of sweet treats that I did not try but I will have to come back for some Turkish delights.

On Monday, we stopped here for breakfast before heading to the Asian Art Museum. We started by ordering the Mediterranean Breakfast for 2 and two Turkish coffees. The breakfast was delish it came with a spongeee egg omelette with cheese inside and a side green salad, three types of bread. One looked like a bagel with sesames seeds however it was a fluffy bread one you bit into it. The second one was like a pretzel tasting. The third one was my favorite more like a cheese quiche. It also came with a platter with several bowls. The honey with cheese was great with the pretzel Tasting bread. There was one like a tomatoe paste with herbs very flavorful not spicy went well with everything. The brown olives were my favorite. It felt very fresh to eat. We also had Turkish coffee. This is why I gave it a four. It was okay, I love coffee and had it better before. It didn't hit as much coffee bean flavor, strong but not full bodied. I ordered their rice pudding like to eat here. They also had a milk one I was curious about. I liked it. It reminded me of a Mexican rice pudding without the cinnamon and less sweet. Next time will try the milk one. We took a few cookies to go those were sold by the pound/weighted. My son preferred the triangle one he doesn't like coconut I ended up eating it. I thought it was good similar to baklava but instead of flaky pastry it was coconut and sesame. The chocolate round cookie was delish a butter cookie with milk chocolate. The rectangle chocolate pastry was a bit too Rick for me. Super sweet. Our ultimate favorites to go were the 5 pc Turkish delights. All tasted so good. It reminded me of my layovers at the Turkey airport. There's plenty of indoor seating. Table/chair seating is medi style white and blue color very Paris refreshing ambiance. I can't believe they are opened till 10 pm. The service was good, ordered at register, was given a number, have a seat and they bring your food to the table. One small detail I liked very much that stands from others are their wet mandarin napkins. They smelled so good and cleaned my hands.

Turquaz is a dessert lovers haven. With selections for every palette and a rotating menu, how can you only leave with one? The answer, you can't! Whenever I stop in, I always end up leaving with at least 3-4 selections to share with friends. On rare occasions, I am very decisive and enjoy a selection of amazingness alone - all to myself. Friends who are not big sweet eaters or who do not greatly indulge in a certain type of dessert find themselves doing just that...enjoying and indulging. Turquaz makes you reconsider your preconceived notions of what a dessert is or can be. It could simply be Turquaz and its ingenious artisans create masterpieces for the palette successfully. A friend and I made our way here, for me, to choose a chocolate treat to satisfy my day long craving. When we arrived, I just stared. There were selections I had partook of previously (and of course enjoyed) while there were other selections new to me and some I saw previously and had not tried. Thankfully, my friend decided on behalf of me - selecting all the items we had pointed out or inquired about. To be honest, not all, I told her to stop when she reached four selections. Two others joined in to share our (ie my friend's) selections - one, not a sweet eating person and the other, a I don't know kind of person. When each of them took their first bites of whichever they selected, there was no derailing their rounds between the four selections. At the end, we each took a box home of the remaining dessert inside. There were leftovers because it was so decadent and we had overly indulged. Would I, we, return? Uh yeah! We already have - I already have - so many times before and will continue to do so. Turquaz also serves food items, coffee selections (which I enjoyed) and beverages, artisan breads, and smaller boxed goodies like chocolate covered espresso beans. The smaller boxed items are perfect for gift giving - I have personally done so. One day I will order in and enjoy a meal there, until then my desserts travel with me and into my tummy! It is easy to miss. You can get off at Civic Center Bart, take the 7 or any other bus goes by. Those two let you out on Market across from the old Whole Foods. Walk to the end of the Whole Foods block and look to your left at the last building of the block - Turquaz - it reads on the window. Follow it around to the second set of doors and enjoy! There is a limited menu outside the entrance doors. Go in, browse and look at the actual paper menu in front of the register (directly in front of the entrance). Seating is plentiful.

This is the perfect place to sit and chat, read a book, or get some work done. The inside is calm and clean with diligent and friendly service constantly taking care of tables. The food came very quickly and there are so many different options to pick from! The Lentil soup was likely my favorite order. The Zauzouk was fantastic as well and paired with a perfect serving of bread.

This is definitely one of the best Turkish spots in the area! It's a unique, big space that serves as both a restaurant and bakery! While they have classic favorites like lahmacun and Turkish delight, the menu goes way beyond that like the salmon plate, for instance, looked great and very healthy. I highly recommend trying a 'cay' (Turkish tea) with one of their many bakery treats. Plus, the staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming. A must-visit for anyone looking for authentic food and a great atmosphere!

Came here on a whim late Monday night and the food was delicious! I'm not typically a huge fan of Mediterranean but our food was so good I want to come back and try other things on the menu. I had the chicken kebab plate (delicious and juicy chicken) and cheese bread (solid). I also tried my friend's lamb and pita with tzatziki dip and they were delicious even though I'm not usually a fan of lamb either. Service was quick and efficient and ambiance was great for a small or large group!

I ordered the chicken and beef kabob plate, and while the meat was flavorful, I wish they included more hummus. At around $25- $30 per plate, I expected a more generous portion. I ordered takeout and arrived about an hour later because the app never updated to show my order was ready. Surprisingly, the restaurant wasn't very busy, and they didn't start preparing my food until I got there. I mentioned that I had placed the order an hour earlier and expected it to be ready, but the server seemed to brush off my concern, which was disappointing. One highlight was the hot sauce. I'm not sure if it's house-made or not, but it's so good. The pita, however, was a letdown. I prefer my pita soft, fluffy, and warm, but this one was hard and grainy. Overall, it's a cute restaurant with decent food, but it isn't my top choice.

The Stuffed falafel was so good and huge 1 is enough for 2 people. The mosabaha was very refreshing and so good. The meat combo was good overall and everything was very herbally spiced, I wasn't impressed by the lamb tho but the kebab, hummus, and chicken were great! I haven't had Mousakhan before so not sure how it should taste but to me it was sweet and savory with really well cooked chicken. The kunafa was good we got it crispy and was yummy imo but was a lil oily (I think this is normal tho). Arab food isn't really spicy but it is spiced and very herbal which I felt in the food here, I appreciate that chili sauce is provided for the spice lovers. Overall, would highly recommend. Turna usually takes our order, and she is genuinely lovely -- friendly in a way that isn't a customer-service script. My girlfriend and I always walk out in a better mood than we walked in with, which is worth a lot. Practical notes: halal, lots of vegetarian and vegan-friendly options, open until midnight Fri/Sat, and they cater. Grab some napkins if you're eating the wrap on the move -- it's a big one, and that's a compliment.

I'm a big fan of the chicken shawarma--it's really flavorful and hits the spot when it's done right. That said, on a couple of my previous orders the meat was a bit on the dry side, but I still find myself coming back because when it's on point, it's really good. Staff is friendly, and most of the time you can stand on their ledges to eat or sit outside. There were 2 small tables that seat 2-3 per table. Pro tip: ask for the tahini and hot sauce on the side and load it into your wrap--it takes it up a notch.

Visiting Kokkari Estiatorio had been on my restaurant bucket list for years, and when it was my…read moreturn to choose a spot for our celebratory team lunch, no one was opposed to dining at Kokkari Estiatorio. I booked our table about a month in advance, which turned out to be the right move because the restaurant was bustling during the lunch hour. To start, we ordered four small plates to share among our party of four: meatballs, saganaki, spanakotiropita, and a pair of dips (melitzanosolata and favasalata) with pita. Everything was excellent, and our spread was inclusive of a wide variety of flavors and textures: salty, creamy, acidic, sweet, crunchy. The meatballs and the dips are definitely a must-order and are ideal for sharing. The spanakotiropita were larger and more filling than expected, so if I were to order those again, I'd dial it back and stick with small plates rather than a full-sized entree. The saganaki was a showstopper; it is served sizzling and crackling on a cast iron dish and had a nice salty flavor that allowed the cheese to be served on its own. For my main dish, I ordered the braised goat - which is not something I'd typically order because goat meat is usually tough - but I was intrigued how it was prepared as a stew. The dish almost reminded me of a Moroccan tagine - the goat was braised to peak tenderness and bathed in a slightly fruity and well-spiced sauce; dotted with pieces of melted feta; and served on top of a bed of baked orzo, which was served fresh-from-the oven in a mini cast iron dish. I was so full after our meal that I had to walk it off for a few blocks, but I cannot wait for our next special occasion so we can come back and celebrate with another feast at Kokkari Estiatorio.

Yes, it's a somewhat expensive dining experience but you are paying for top notch service and great quality food. I am not talking about these cheap midnight specials in Las Vegas. This is type of food where you take your time eating to savor your food to taste the silky texture of the meat or let the sauce soak into the octopus appetizer to soften it and tastes good. I would have ordered a salad but with the health scare of salads recall made me hesitant to order any, although the specials sounded great! You can still cannot go wrong as every dish was great experience and great execution. Love the melted cheeses in appetizer and custard in dessert with pistachio ice cream! The meats really shined as we asked for medium rare and both steak and lamb chops cooked perfectly. Would I go back? , oh yeah and splurge on this place for sure. It just felt special to me. That flourless cake by kitchen I was debating should I take the whole thing and run? lol Restroom is a maze I do must say as you take an elevator one level down.

I have mixed feelings about Souvla, like maybe I ordered the wrong thing? I had the chicken sandwich: It lacked flavor, puzzling since it has bold flavors of fennel, pickled onions and orange. The chicken was finely shredded and plentiful, it just had no taste and it was dry. My son loved his lamb gyro which disappeared in an instant (his big eyes signaled he wanted my sandwich too- I handed it over.) The fries with Greek cheese were great and still hot when we arrived home. The frozen yogurt with olive oil and salt was pucker-your-mouth delicious. Next time we'll dine al fresco and kick back and people watch - and I'll pick something new off the menu. Service could not have been friendlier and food prep, fast! And PS the takeout boxes are really pretty.

I'm generally pretty indifferent about mediterranean food, but this place really impressed me!…read more Every dish I tried had amazing flavors, and everything was prepared perfectly. We started off with the hummus and the moussaka (eggplant and tomato sauce). The hummus was pretty standard, but still great, and the moussaka was SO delicious. This was definitely the standout dish to me, and I'd hiiiighly recommend it. For mains, I was doing Meatless Monday, so I got the super falafel wrap. This wrap was also sooo delicious and massive! The falafel was really flavorful, and all the toppings and tahini sauce were just perfect additions. The restaurant itself is really pleasant and bright, great for pretty much any occasion. Service was also good (you order via QR code, but they bring the food out to you) and prices are reasonable given the quality and portion size. Definitely a new fav spot in SF!

The service apparently called out sick. Let's start with the good news: the food was genuinely delicious. Everything tasted fresh and thoughtfully prepared. The mint lemonade was bright and refreshing. The chicken skewers were flavorful and perfectly cooked (though surprisingly small). The halumi salad with eggplant was a generous portion. Now for the "Mooore" part. I was hoping the restaurant's name was also a mission statement. However, we could have used more attentive service. More follow-through. More toilet paper... Unfortunately, once we were seated, we were essentially released into the wild. Ordering is done by scanning a QR code, which is perfectly fine in theory. In practice, it felt like sending requests into the void. A drink I ordered never appeared. Nobody checked on the table, so I had to get up and walk to the counter to ask about it. Later, I had to make another trip to remind them we had ordered dessert. Then another trip when we wanted a to-go box. Apparently, the evening's theme was "interactive dining," where the guests perform most of the customer service duties themselves. Tips are forced when you first order online - no refunds on that. The bathroom offered its own adventure. The trash bin was overflowing with dirty paper towels, and there was little to no toilet paper available. As the daughter of a health inspector, knowing that staff use the same facility, I would have given this a poor hygiene grade. What made the experience frustrating was that the food was good enough to make you want to come back. But when your guests spend half the meal looking for someone to help them, it takes away from what could have been a 'more' pleasant evening.

The service was friendly and welcoming even when our party came at different times. The restaurant wasn't busy given it was a Monday evening, so you would think it would go smoothly. *** OUR PICKS *** COMBO APPETIZER PLATTER ~ hummus, baba ghanouj, haydari, ezme, dolmas, merimek, falafel ~ parts of the platter were cold while the falafel was warm, but they topped it off with a sauce that didn't keep the falafel crispy, instead it softened it. I think the sauce should have been on the side. The rest of the dish was good. 4/5 LAMB KEBAB PLATE ~ this was my dish. I touched my skewers thinking they were going to be hot, but it was surprisingly cold. I'm not sure why skewers would be cold when the food should be hot right off the grill. The lamb was cooked medium rare as I requested, though there was little to no seasoning. So it was kind of gamey and tasteless 3/5 RACK OF LAMB PLATE ~ my partner chose this dish. The lamb was also very light in seasoning. The pistachio rice was interesting and nutty. Asparagus was good. 3.5/5 MIXED GRILL PLATE ~ our friend enjoyed this dish. Maybe a mixed grill is the way to go and some meats cooked and seasoned better than others. 4/5 BEEF KEBAB PLATE ~ the beef was also room temperature and lightly seasoned. 3.5/5 SALMON ~ I tried some of this and it was decent. 4/5 BAKLAVA & CHOCOLATE MOUSSE CAKE ~ Nice birthday surprise and a sweet way to end the meal. Baklava wasn't as crispy or flaky as some I've had, but the honey-pistachio nuts were good. Chocolate mousse cake was decadent and moist. 4/5 Beautiful presentation on the plating of our food, though the timing for the food wasn't quite right as a few plates were served room temperature and not hot. However, the surprise desserts were a nice touch in helping us celebrate a birthday!
