So at the day I came in today, the app wasn't working very well and I identified what I was ordering to the place staff, and they cannot understand that what was not offer on the app was what I was thinking. Because of the simple definition of the item. I was just sticking a falafel plate in the app. It shows a nice layout with some extra sauce. What a surprising hidden gem! As someone who works in San Francisco, I have seen a lot of lunch options come and go since the pandemic, so I'm always excited when a new restaurant opens up. Turquaz has been open for a bit, but I only got around to trying it recently, and I can't wait to go back. As others have said, the decor is so cute. Definitely like a European pastry shop out of a storybook. And the staff was incredibly kind and helpful. But it's the food that sealed the deal for me. I have had Turkish food maybe a handful of times total, so I'm not well-versed in the cuisine by any means, but I really enjoyed what I had. For lunch, I ordered the Menemen, which is actually more of a breakfast dish (I was eating an early lunch around 11). The dish is described on DoorDash (I ordered for pickup) as "Freshly sautéed tomatoes, green peppers, and onions simmered with eggs for a rich and hearty Turkish breakfast." It also comes with bread, but I ordered a side of rice as well. The dish was flavorful and comforting, and hit the spot. Almost like a shakshuka but with scrambled eggs. I would gladly order it again. The bread was really good, too, so I would probably skip the rice (which was a little undercooked for my liking anyway) next time. They also threw in some tasty hot sauce, which went really well with the dish. Based on my first order alone, I'm sold on Turquaz (again, sorry for no photos of the food. I will do better next time). But that is just one thing on an expansive menu of not only savory but also sweet delicacies. Half of the restaurant is essentially dedicated to pastries/desserts! Oh, the possibilities. read more

Turquaz SF is a relatively new addition to the SoMa food scene. It's biggest draw is that the space is vast and beautiful. It operates as both a dining establishment and cafe, with savory offerings alongside desserts and caffeinated beverages. I found the food to be satisfactory, but not exceptional. I think the space has enough appeal on its own to warrant a visit, but be prepared to pay steep prices for the food. A plate, coffee, and baklava ran me $40 after tip! Adana Plate: The adana kebab was much fattier of a cut than I'm used to. However, thats not a bad thing. The kebab was succulent and juicy. Although, I found the spices lacking. I also found the accompaniments disappointing. The pita was thin and plain, the grilled tomatoe and pepper were good, but far too little, and the salad was far too sharp. Baklava: Incredibly dry. Lovely new bistro-type place, with so many sweet and savory offerings. So far I've only tried some of their sweets so just reviewing my experiences there. Service was mostly good ~ the primary server person at the bakery was super sweet & greeted everyone with a warm smile, but there were a lot of staff around I guess they mainly handled the background flow or other duties, so even when the wait was a little long, the other staff didn't provide much assistance. Possibly they are still working out their workflow. I tried a chocolate cherry cake slice which I'd say was not bad ~ the chocolate layer was thicker like a ganache which I personally like much better than buttercream but was a tad sweet for me, the cake part was on the drier side but which I think is standard for this cake type, and filling of light cream & some pieces of cherry was pretty good and not overly sweet. I also got a few baklava to try (wow they have so many varieties). Tried the milky pistachio, milky hazelnut, palace pistachio (smaller green roll), classic walnut, Turquaz roll pistachio (it was described as softer than the classic and it was), roll pistachio (larger green roll). My favorites were the milky ones as I felt they tasted less sweet (maybe the milk balances it out), and I also liked the palace pistachio for its firmer texture. The (larger green) roll pistachio was interesting in that it had some savory notes. Noting, my coworker tried to order coffee to go, but currently there is no option for this. Coworker had even brought her own travel coffee mug tumbler, so that coffee can be poured into it, but they were unable to fulfill the request. Not sure if they are still working that out, and if it'll be available in future. Overall, glad Turquaz is here, like an oasis in this somewhat sketchy area, and looking forward to trying more items. read more

From the beautiful space to the plethora of Turkish delight and housemade pastries and breads in the display cases, this joint is a jewel. Having just returned from Türkiye, I've found my place. We started with the beef and cheese Pide and proceeded to dig into our Chicken kabob and Adana plates. Our Kabobs were chargrilled with salad, rice, lavash, and tzatziki. It was superb! One of the owners came up to us and offered us Turkish tea or Turkish coffee on the house. Great hospitality! We ended our meal with an assortment of delectable turkish delight. Turquaz has taken over the old Focaccia space and has turned it into a nice casual eatery with a lovely and bright design. It keeps a lot of the casual vibes through at the counter ordering and the display for not only the desserts and other sweets, but for some of the main dishes as well. The Lamb Shank is very nice; tender, but still holding it's integrity and not getting mushy. I haven't seen how it is during the daytime, but for now, dinner time is fairly empty.
