    Everything is Soggy!

Soggy tastes like it's been made a while ago. For the price it was not greatest quality.

Their food is a bit pricey but their lunch menu is great! I had the don katsu bento box and it was great for its price. Their service was good and this place has a lot of seating.

Yet another Korean-Japanese place in Ann Arbor. Near US 23 Plymouth Road exit, is tucked away near Sweetwater cafe. Small room but comfortable (cozy is good description). Service had a very clear mom and pop feel. There was a large screen rotating through their sushi creations. While I was unclear about the relationship of the roll named to the creations (except for the volcano) there is clearly a lot of pride in them. While I expected more tightness in the rolls, these were well assembled. There is unique artwork directly relating to the bento and sushi and the restaurant itself. A food artist clearly has a hand in this place, and for that reason alone it is worth finding the more than ample parking tucked away behind the place. BTW the music was not too loud but calming: this could be a good secret hideaway for conversation.

Place: They have parking and good space. I went to try a different sushi place. Service: The service was good and the food came back pretty quickly. Food $$: I got different sushi with a friend and it was the first time getting lettuce in my sushi. I got to say it is not bad haha! It adds a nice crunch to the spider roll Audience: Solo Trip [X] 21+ [ ] Family Friendly [X] Friends [X] Date Spot [ ] Recommendations/tips: It was good but I prefer my other sushi spots :)

I got a takeout order on a Friday evening. This sushi restaurant is in a little strip mall about half a mile off of US 23 on Plymouth Road. I ordered carry out online through the site. I ordered the Michigan roll, a tuna/avocado roll, and a ikura nigiri. It was ready when promised. The set up of the restaurant for picking up carry out orders during Covid was good. They put your order on a table and then stepped away while you signed the credit card statement. I was not happy with the taste of the Michigan roll, it tasted off to me, but they refunded the cost of it. The rest of the order was very good. I love Ikura and this did not disappoint. The size of the order was not as big as what you would get at some other sushi restaurants, but you are also not paying as much for your sushi as you may elsewhere. Their customer service was excellent, so I will try them again.

We've been to Umi Sushi four times now and it's easily our favorite sushi spot in Ann Arbor! The flavors are great and the fish quality is much better than many other places. I will admit that sometimes their rolls are not super tightly rolled but the flavors more than make up for it! Our favorite roll is the Wolverine roll. If you're a fan of tuna, shrimp tempura, and eel, you will love this roll. The Popcorn Lobster roll was our second favorite! We were looking to mix things up a little and this roll was perfect for it! We have also enjoyed the Diablo roll in the past. We also went here for a birthday celebration and decided to go a little fancier than usual. We got the smaller of the two Sushi for Two boats. This boat came with 12 pieces of chef's choice sushi (all nigiri for us), a 8 piece California roll, and a 8 piece spicy tuna roll. The boat was excellent!!! Not only was it aesthetic, it also contained great sushi. All 12 pieces of sushi were fantastic. Especially the salmon and tuna!! The quality of the fish was great. We finished the night with tempura ice cream with vanilla flavor. It was the perfect dessert to share with someone. Also, try their sake bombs!!!!! It's only $5 and is almost the same amount of beer as their draft! As for the environment, it's quite lovely. It's more on the quiet side, which I enjoyed. It's always staffed with whom I believe the owner is and one waitress. Both are very attentive and provide excellent service! I've never gotten take out from here before but it seems pretty popular! There were several order pick ups while we were there. Definitely will be back!

Bento box is good for lunch. Delicious food and fast service. Recommended! Tempura is crispy; salmon and rice - my favorite; tofu is cool inside, different from what I had in other restaurant but still good!

Wow. This place has it all…read more Sister and I went on a Friday night- quick service, quick food, AND the ladies who served us were so sweet, attentive, and absolutely the best. The inside is so cute and the plates are so pretty too! Not only are the physical dishes cool, but the presentation of the sushi was too! I got 2 orders of the simple tuna, and one New York. My sister got an order of the California rolls and 2 shrimp tempura orders. Presentation was fantastic, and the sushi was divine. The salmon was so tender and almost buttery in consistency, and the veggies inside the rolls are so fresh and crisp. I always find sushi so refreshing and it hit the spot. I'd also like to mention how fantastic they are about dietary restrictions. Tons of vegan/vegetarian options PLUS GLUTEN FREE SOY SAUCE, APPS, AND A MENU. For the celiacs out there: I didn't get glutened! They took it seriously and I had no issues! If you're not sure where to go, go to Kanbu. The entire meal was around $65, and we had a lot of sushi plus a massive pot of tea. Sushi can be so expensive and I find this place to have great prices, especially for the size and quality of sushi! If you want to support authentic, local places in Ann Arbor, go to kanbu! My only regret is that I didn't take pictures.

The server was very nice to us and was quick to bring out the food. The table we were sitting at was made of wood and gave a nice ambience of Japandi style decor. Not too busy either! The only thing to note is that the entrance to the restaurant is inside the building complex.

The quality of the food is still amazing and worth a visit, but there were some items I wish stayed on the menu. For example, the spicy salmon crispy rice is no longer available and only available in the tuna form. The portions are also smaller, now coming in three small bites rather than the two big bites from before. The gochujang rigatoni and kimchi paella are also unavailable. Some new dishes I tried and loved were the short rib and the grilled octopus. The octopus was incredibly tender and I couldn't stop eating it! It also comes with delicious potatoes. The short rib was a larger portion and also tasted delicious. The rest of my table ordered the miso cod. The miso cod was delicious, but the portion was quite small and arguably not worth its price compared to the short rib. Cocktails that I recommend are The Gatsby and The Promised Neverland if you like sweeter drinks! For the service, we felt a bit rushed as we were dining. Normally the drinks come out followed by the appetizers, but our appetizers came first and the drinks came with our mains. I think there was a missed opportunity to sip on our drinks and chat with our party as we enjoyed the restaurant's ambience. Otherwise, the food came quickly and was well served.

It was restaurant weekend in downtown Ann Arbor and we didn't have a reservation, so we obliged, although the space was pretty empty. Once we got to the bar, the young waitress slammed menus down in front of us and acted extremely annoyed by our presence. After bothering us every minute for the next 5 minutes to order, me and my friend put in our orders in haste. We then waited for 30 minutes for our meals to arrive. I got the "Amazing Shrimp" sushi roll and my friend got the "Grilled Angus Short Rib". As noted on the menu it comes with Mashed Potatoes, Shishito Peppers, and Garlic Chives. Per my friend's request, the order did not come with the Shishito Peppers or Garlic Chives, but it also didn't have the potatoes. After asking for the potatoes, our server went back and we could hear her yelling at the kitchen staff. Minutes later she came out with a bowl of 3 potatoes, not mashed and not hot. My roll was great and I'd definitely order again if I come back, but I'm honestly not too inclined to after this experience. Lastly, the restaurant itself was freezing. It was a cold day but it was way colder inside than it should've been. We ended up keeping our coats on for most of dinner. I really do want to like it here because the vibe seemed very modern and clean, however the service, food, and level of professionalism fell short of my expectations.

Closed on Mondays, I think my dad scheduled his treatments around their hours because he likes it so much. There is a strong smell of disinfectant when you walk in that doesn't mix well with whatever smell is coming from the pipes but I recall this same issue at this location long before it was Plate. No worries. It's clean and welcoming. We sat, my dad choosing a bench side table with a cushion. I ordered a couple appetizers from the order pad at the table while we waited for our third person. Hot tea, water l, edamame and takoyaki. All very good. The woman that greeted us was so warm and friendly. She was also our server. I ordered the sushi lunch bento. They had teriyaki beef bento. I didn't know the bentos came with a single Tako ball or I wouldn't have order the app but don't skip on the app. It's a good order with tempura flakes and eel sauce. I forgot to snap a pic of them. The bento was excellent. Right temps, great quality and assortment. I couldn't finish it. Packed a box to finish later. Dad treated today so I don't have a clue what the bill was but the prices are reasonable. Highly recommended.

I even visited twice before writing this review because I wanted to be fair. Both times, I ordered the bento box (tried the chicken, salmon, and beef). While the presentation was awesome, I felt the dishes were a bit too fried and oily, and the flavors were quite tasteless and mild. The sushi (California rolls), however, was the highlight : fresh, generous, and delicious! I really appreciated that part. For improvement, Some small details could make a big difference. For example, they didn't have yum yum sauce, and the salad portion was quite small and it is just cucumber. The service could also be more attentive ( though the owner personally checks on guests, which shows her genuine care and hospitality.) The restaurant is clean and cozy, with a nice atmosphere. I love that they use a digital menu, but a little more explanation of the dishes would help guests choose more confidently. Overall, with a lot of work and effort, this place has good potential and a lot of heart behind it for a small business. With a bit more focus on enhanced quality , flavor and and balance, I believe it could easily work thier ways to become a visited spots in town.
