Uncle Tetsu: Located in the Chapman Plaza in Mid-City Koreatown, Los Angeles.

Japanese Cheesecake store. Uncle Tetsu specializes in LIGHT and AIRY soufflé-like cheesecake known as Japanese Cheesecake. It's not as sweet, rich, dense, and tangy as American cheesecake- which I prefer. One of my best friends insisted on getting me Japanese cheesecake because she loves it so much, I didn't have the heart to tell her no, so I came home gifted with 3 cheesecakes (facepalm)! Lol. I will say that the service at this location is fantastic and if I had to recommend any flavors, my Japanese in-laws loved the: Original, Pandan-coconut, and Ube. If you love Japanese cheesecake then Uncle Tetsu is your place!

Unfriendly service. Very rude. Didn't want to help. Don't come here. Maybe it's friendly elsewhere? I wanted to buy 2 cakes at least but why bother when service is unfriendly.

Food 5/5: cake melted in my mouth it was so fluffy. The cheesecake was really good and the cheesecake tart was the best one. Wow, perfect sweetness and texture. Cake also comes in a huge size as well as the high quality to-go packaging. I highly recommend if you like Japanese pastry!

Amazing cheesecake! It is not too sweet, and it is insanely fluffy and custard like. It's not like american cheesecake. The service is great, they let you sample the flavors so you choose one you like. It's really cute in the shop with the displays and it's a big cake for the price. A must have spot in K- town

I found this spot because of a video I saw on tik tok! Im normally not a sweets person but after seeing a video of the cheesecake, I had to try it out. Parking: this location is in a very busy part of the city, i parked on the street with my hazards on (i don't recommend!). But then realized there is paid parking in the center of the plaza. The shop itself is pretty small, so you won't be able to eat here. I ordered the original Japanese cheesecake and the cookies n creme. I really wanted to try their Madeleine's but they were all out. I really enjoyed the original and the cookies n creme was okay. The texture of these cheesecakes are fluffy and light, not dense like a traditional cheesecake. I ended up adding some whipped creme to mine, and it added some extra sweetness to it.

Wow!!! Walking inside, we were greeted with the fresh smell of fresh baked cheesecakes. The lady answered our questions quickly and serviced us with our orders right away. There were trays of cheesecakes finished and ready and my girlfriend and I each picked one flavor each-- (initially was going to pick just one but the other flavors seemed so tempting!!) and we got the Original (as it's our first time trying Uncle Tetsu) and Ube. Wow!! Oh my goodness, it was so good and fluffy. The cake really melted in your mouth and made you want more. It was so soft to taste in my mouth and I was so impressed!! The little Chick egg tart had a nice creamy inside and a delicious crunch on the exterior. Best of all, the desserts were sweet but not too sweet at all. We loved grabbing bites from the cake and felt pleased. *Small font on the box says to refrigerate immediately and try to consume within 3 days

This Uncle Tetsu branch is located in the Chapman plaza on 6th Street between Kenmore and Alexandria. As usual, street parking in the area is not easy but this center has their own parking lot. Uncle Tetsu staff opened the store on time and had cakes ready to go, which is great because our parking meter was running out. There was no line go get in the small shop, no line to order and no wait to get our cake. I know this is supposed to be a "cheese cake" but I really want to call this "sponge cake". They have the yummiest sponge cake ever. Even the plain one tastes great. They have other flavors like ube, pandan and oreo.

Friendly person at the front who helped us, delicious cheesecake, and super cute logo. Can't ask for anything more! No frills spot and they gave free samples. Excited to try another flavor cuz the ube was so good!

Omg an Uncle Testsu! We were hoping it would be much better than the NYC branch. And they have MORE Flavors! Omg they have so much different flavors!!!!! Small shop, and abit of a wait as there was a large tourist family still deciding on the flavor. We waited outside as there wasn't much space inside the door. Was so excited to look at the different flavors but we decided on the classic original flavor. Perhaps next time will try other flavors but we just wanted to see how this taste. Ended up having it later when we went to visit a cousin and we shared. It tasted good but never that same taste/feeling the very first time I had it in Osaka, Japan. Maybe, USA's isn't the same... Also, is it just me or did the cake size got smaller? I remember it was bigger in Japan but can't remember if the Toronto and NYC one is also this small.

This is a really small location so it does get full pretty fast but the workers are working extremely hard working to give us fast and accommodating! Really enjoyed the both cakes, my only issue was I got a small cake and it was kind of creamy to the point where I feel like it was slightly undercooked. Did it still taste good? Yes! But the texture was creamy and soft compared to light and fluffy but if any one were to try this without having them before, they probably wouldn't notice. Love that they have a small size! I got the Japanese cherry blossom uncle tetsu cheesecake and the mini original cheesecake! $20 not bad! Cherry blossom flavor is really strong and floral! Really pretty design on cake! Original is still my personal favorite! :) I think next time I'll just stick with the bigger size because the texture for me is really consistent :)

Food: my first time trying japanese cheesecake but I feel like the bar is set high now. The texture was so fluffy and melt-in-your-mouth. The pandan added a very nice earthy vanilla flavor and the cream cheese added nice mellow tang. I was expecting it to taste like egg since it seemed more like a souffle which tend to have an egg aftertaste, but it was pleasantly balanced. Service: very polite with great recommendations when we couldn't decide on flavors. Ambiance: small place with a modern feel. Recommend taking to go, but the cakes travel really well.

Cold brew vanilla: Delicious, I love that tou can see the vanilla cream on top. This was definitely what I needed to wake me up. 2. Matcha einspener: I tasted this and immediately loved it when leaving the store. I saved it for last. It was so light and refreshing. I could easily drink it all day if they had a bigger size lol. I was hoping to try the seasonal mango cream matcha, but sadly it was gone. 3. Pastries: I wanted to try the sampler but I don't thinking they had it yet. I tried one of the cinnamon pastries. It was soft and very cinnamony. Overall, it was a great experience and I'll be back soon.

Here's a helpful tip: The bank next door allows 10 minutes of parking if you use their ATM and keep your receipt. There is security in the lot, so be sure to have your receipt as proof of the time. It's more than enough time to run next door and grab your treats. I ordered a slice of the lemon loaf, a gluten-free cookie, and the classic chocolate chip cookie. The lemon loaf slice is huge, I'd say it's the equivalent of two slices, so it's definitely big enough to share. As for the cookies, Levain is known for making them thick and rich. A small piece goes a long way, making them perfect for savoring over a couple of days (if you have that much self-control!). The moment you walk inside, you're greeted by the incredible aroma of freshly baked pastries, and the service was warm and welcoming. Almost all of our pastries were ready before we had even left the kiosk, which was great! I went with the mango and the peach, both of which were fantastic! The shortbread cookie underneath both was delicious, the mango mousse and filling tasted so fresh and amazing. The peach had an Earl Grey cream and fresh peach chunks as well. It's just tiktok hype, save the time and get dessert somewhere else…read more What I ate: - Lemon shaped was probably the best of the flavors I tried. I also like the mango shaped one. The peach shaped and was forgettable Pros: - The cakes are very very cute and amazing to look at - Shop inside had a few tables. It seemed like most were just couples or a few friends sharing - Kiosk ordering do no need for human interaction if you don't want it Cons: - I really hated that the flavors did not match up to the cake shapes. I think I liked the lemon shaped one the best because it has the most citrusy passionfruit flavor. But when I break into the mango shaped cake, I expect a strong mango flavor. If the flavors were not going to match, I would've much rather like it if the cakes were in different shapes like a cute cartoonish animal, or smiley face, or a daisy. Some shape that I wouldn't associate with flavor - I also wasn't a huge fan of the flavor combos. I feel like they were really trying to go out there but often times the fruit flavors used didn't really match up with the tea or nut flavors. The flavors were not balanced at all, often just very muddled with one flavor either being too strong or not strong enough, or interfering with a fruits flavor. Some of the cakes were floral tasting from tea or almost slightly savory. The cakes are not sweet at all. Maybe I was just unlucky and tried the worst flavors. Again the lemon shaped one was the best because passionfruit flavor was sharp enough to cut through the other flavors - Parking is street and can be hit or miss - Expensive - I ordered a drink and I don't see it on the menu, or I just can't remember it. That's how different it was. I do remember thinking it was so sweet Would I go again? Absolutely not
