So I share the title with my live in for this car and I have been frantically searching for the notification of registration I remember floating in one day in the mail. No luck till today when he asks me if I would not mind helping out with his taxes as he drops off a pile of stuff for me to dig through. Low and behold! There is the NOW LATE paperwork from good old CA DMV and the car needs a smog too. Just Great. Considering I also need an oil change and am somewhat new to the area I see these good reviews and give a call. I let Norman know I found him on yelp and ask if I need a coooopin or anything and he says no, that since I found him on line he will give me a 10% discount automatically. He also tells me the shop is not too busy at the moment and suggests I drop by soon. So, out the door and five minutes later Norman is telling me it will be done in about forty minutes. As his shop is kinda small I asked about some place to hang out while he waits. He suggests the coffee/donut shop on the corner. I start to walk there and see a bar! Even better. Sit down to drink a beer, chat with some of the other customers and in what felt like less than a half an hour I get the call that the car is finished! I trot back up to the shop and Norman has my car pulled out ready to go. Can't beat it. He gives me an extra copy of the smog read-out and has already sent the paperwork ahead to the DMV. Lets me know that the car looks in good shape and then even asks about the different lug nuts on one back tire. They were not even working on that part of the car! Wow, hard to believe the shop was paying attention to that one but kudos, they were. In and out the door in under 40 mins, 10% discount and an oil change for under $20 bucks for a total of $56.42. Norman and his crew at Union Auto Care are knowledgeable, fast and efficient all for a great price. I called to make an appointment for a smog check on a Saturday morning after seeing their great reviews on yelp, Norman said I could come in after one hour. My smog check was done in no time, results sent to DMV, certificate in hand, I was done in about a half hour. My only complaint is that there was no place to sit while waiting. But the work was done so quickly that it wasn't a big deal. I will be coming back to Norman for all my auto needs. read more

I've had my 2002 Jeep worked on here twice now. 1st time: Oil change/tire rotation, 2nd time: brake pads/new rotors. This shop is honest and does excellent work. They're very efficient and able to get parts quickly. They show you the old parts and explain what went wrong. Appointments accommodate your schedule. They'll even give you a ride. As another reviewer said, "Norman is the man." He gets the job done and done well. He's very knowledgeable and provides information that'll "save" you money. Went to Union Auto Care because my car had an oil leak. I brought my dad with me (a retired mechanic) and we were greeted by Norman. He shook our hands and immediately got my car up on the rack to see what the problem was. He even allowed my dad to take a look with him, which I thought was very cool. AMAZING HONEST SERVICE! With a lot of recent problems with my car, I have had to take my car to several auto repair shops and looking for a consistent solid shop to go to was difficult. One of my blades for my windshield wiper blades gave out and looked on yelp to find Union Auto Care just about less than 10 minutes away from my house. As we arrived, we met one of the guys working there and discussed my situation with my wiper blades and how it might've been the motor for the blades. Regardless the guy told us to leave the car here for an hour or two because of other people before us and will diagnosed the problem as well as give me a call back. Less than an hour later, he called saying he fixed the problem and did not have to order any extra parts. I was surprised on how fast it took to fix the blades even with the amount of people waiting before us. We mentioned how we found this auto repair shop on yelp and even gave a 10% discount. He said if we had any future problems: smog or auto repair related to take it to him. In the end, this place has good workers and does a good job of keeping you updated about your vehicle. Norm, the owner of this small shop, is THE BEST mechanic I've ever had the pleasure to use. He really bends over backwards to help you when your car has a problem or you just need service. He explains things to you and provides options in repairing your car. I have never felt cheated or that I was over charged. His service is just the opposite of treatment you get from a dealer at probably 1/2 the cost of a dealer. My biggest fear is that some dealer will buy him out or that he will leave the area. Then I'll be stuck getting service for my 12-year old Ford from a jerk mechanic who will charge me twice as much. I can't praise this guy enough. He's a real jewel. In reading some of the negative comments about Union Auto Care, I think they must have been written by Norm's competion trying to drive his customers away. Althought I'm a lawyer, trust me here. I used here for smog check and I got good impressions. So later, I had water pump, thermostat, battery, and spark plugs replaced. They installed new OEM (original equipment manufactured) parts. I checked a box and it's from Japan for my Toyota. An estimate from a Toyota dealer was about $1000. I paid about $480 for this garage. I got very clear estimation beforehand and I'm happy with their work. The owner seemed very honest and nice. I'm glad to find this garage and highly recommend it. read more

I brought my car in to fix check engine light and do the Smog Test. This place is near my work so i left my car there for diagnosis. A couple hours later owner Norman called back to explain what is wrong with the vehicle. He told me my air pump was no good anymore and need to be replaced. This was what I suspected since I found my air pump fuse was blown, I replaced it and blown again. I asked him anything else to fix. The other place I went to told me to replace my catalyic converter too which would have been much costlier. Norman ensured me to trust him and fix air pump first and go from there. I appreciate that he wasn't trying to add on unnecessary fixes to make more money. I told him I have very strict timeline to get it fixed due to deadline on the citation I got from police. He was very up front with the cost of parts and labor which IMO was reasonable. He still needs to make money to have his business up and running. He even expedited the parts shipment for me. The part arrived in 2 days and on the same day I got good news from Norman that check engine light is gone and smog passes. I told him good news too that I was at the hospital and my wife just gave birth so I had to leave the car at the shop for a while. :) Overall, this place is going to be my go to place now for my auto issues. Honest, competent and highly professional and reasonably priced. I had a very positive experience. Thank you Norman for taking care of the issue with my 14 years old Toyota Matrix. What a gem. I am 76 and always a bit worried when problems arise. When my '94 Saturn failed the smog test, I tried to remember where I went last time, in 2013. Apparently that was Union Auto care, so I checked yelp for reviews. Nothing but good reviews. When I arrived, Norman remembered me - and the 2013 repair. Somewhat underimpressed. I asked Norman if he would do a break job on my Sprinter. I have all the parts. Saves a ton of money if you buy your own parts. Norman did not want a labor-only job, presumably because he would miss out on the markup of the parts. KSH in San Francisco, the best auto shop on earth, used to do this for me. I created a Yelp account just for this, and I'm very surprised there are not more positive reviews decorating Norman's great work. Maybe all the 5 STAR REVIEWS were all people needed to see. I brought two different cars to Norman, both with pretty major work/diagnostics needed. My Volkswagen had a check engine light on for the last half year or more, and i finally had to get it serviced. The engine was working so hard that i thought i might need to rebuild it, buy a new one, or have no car. Norman did his diagnostics and found 2 issues. thermostat needed to be replaced and there was a car engine issue showing vibration in a piston. Most mechanics would either mis-diagnose, or encourage you to go the full-blown route to take all you got. I've been thru this before unfortunately, like most. Anyways, Norman replaced the thermostat which got the check engine light off. Told me to monitor the car for now, see if the engine light comes back on, or any mechanical issues persist. Cars been running great. Keep it short on the other car. Honda with no AC/Heat for the last two years. Imagine that, hot summers, cold winters, icy front windows that can't defrost. Finally, had to get it fixed, expecting this summer to be real hot. I assumed i would be paying a fortune for this. Norman quickly diagnosed it. Gave me an update mid-afternoon. Got the blow motor resistor fixed. Car was ready for me by the time i was off work. Finally, air thru the car vents. Best thing about Norman as others have said. He's a straight up guy. Enjoys his work, enjoys helping people and understands that all you want is great service. That's what he does. Cost wise, i feel it was a great return on investment to keep the cars operating. money is hard to come by these days. I got a smoking deal as other have mentioned below. Thank goodness no more Jiffy Lube where they almost ruined two car engines with loose oil plugs, filters, etc., or guessing where to take a car for other mechanical problems. I'm not sure what all those other posts are about, giving 5 stars and raving about this place. I was very disappointed after reading such great reviews. To start off, when I got there the man working in the shop was eating his lunch and blaring Asian pop music. It took us a couple of attempts at understanding each other before he even turned the music down. Then, he did not seem to understand what I was asking (simply if I could get my tire plugged because it had a nail in it) and he kept going on about how they didn't have a tire machine, which I did not need since I had the tire with me and simply wanted to find out if I could wheel it in for him to fix before I actually wheeled it in there. Finally he got it and told me to bring it in. I was a little annoyed that he didn't offer to help or fetch it for me, which would have matched more of the customer service I read about in the other reviews. Anyhow, got the tire plugged and he told me it was $10. Not a bad price for something I hope will do the trick. When I handed him my debit card he said, "You don't just have $10?" Seriously? Sorry sir, I don't always have cash on me and if you want "just $10" you should put a sign up that says cash only. When he ran my card he didn't seem to know how the machine worked. All in all I'm glad my tire was fixed, and cheaply, but this was not as "excellent" as I had been led to believe. On my way out of the shop a patron of the gas station actually offered to help me heave the tire into the back of my truck. A stranger has better customer service than the person supposed to be doing the service! Imagine that. read more
