Could not wait to try this place after seeing all the great reviews and photos on their website. The moment we sat down (after waiting 25 minutes, since they do not have a waitlist or take reservations), the hard, uncomfortable chairs seemed to declare, "hope you're not staying long!" All four of us did not like those metal chairs. The server was pleasant, but they were busy so service was really off on the timing. When our food finally came after a long wait, it looked good, but all of our fries were hard and pretty cold. My husband's Cubano sandwich was lukewarm. My Reuben was not hot either, and severely lacking in flavor. It needed thinner bread (2" thickness total Rye bread), needed more Thousand Island dressing, more cheese, more sauerkraut. Not a fan of the Pastrami; guess I'm more of a corned beef person. Thought I could fix it if I took it home, but nothing worked. My friend's Pot Pie looked interesting, but she said there was not much chicken - mostly potatoes. None of us wanted to go back. A friend invited us here. I think I worked that day so we were a bit late because I had to return home and change. It was a Thursday and they have discounted Moscow Mules. There were 6 of us, me, my fiance, and 4 of my fiance's coworkers. I think everyone except one of them got dinner. And we all shared the combo charcuterie board. That board was the bomb. It was amazing. I couldn't eat the cheese but the meats on the board, even the apples, and grapes were delicious. They smoked the grapes somehow so it made it all the more mouth-watering. I wasn't too hungry so I got the poke appetizer. It came with fried wonton skins. It was much bigger than I expected. That was basically a full meal to me. I can't believe they have it as an appetizer. My fiance and the others got sandwiches/burgers. I got the peach tea alcoholic drink. Everyone else got a Moscow Mule. Wow this place is not good. Tucson has so much better and I'm pissed that I ordered two meals. Fish and chips for lunch and Charcuterie to go for dinner. Service was friendly no issues. Fish was so gross with way too much batter and gooey in a bad way. "Slaw" had spinach leaves with huge nasty stems. Whatever, I enjoyed dining out in a new to me restaurant as a recent transplant. Anticipating a lovely light dinner for the two of us at home, I opened the container to find french fry remnants. Not a good look. I've been here so many times and this passed weekend my friends and I had the WORST experience ever. David Serafin completely ruined our girls brunch by screaming at us for our paper confetti that we brought. We offered to clean up and asked for a broom as we did not know we weren't allowed to have it when we sat outside. He yelled at us that it was a $250 fine and that the servers needed to stop serving us. We had been there for an hour and a half and his staff had complimented our decorations. The server we had was so sweet and she did a great job but after being screamed at by a grown man who seemed to have been on drugs, our brunch was ruined. My friend went inside to get his card as we all paid and David went out of his way to shoulder check her out of his way in the building. There were maybe 6 tables inside and there was nobody in her way. He went out of his way to physically hurt her then continue to scream in her face saying "you're from that table aren't you!?". She was shaken up and we left immediately. I know the 6 of us will never stop sharing our experience here. As someone who comes from a family of restaurant owners, I'm ashamed someone would ever speak to another human being as horribly as David did then continue to go as far as physical harm. As stated before, we used to go to Union ALL THE TIME. But quite frankly, I want everyone to know this is not a good environment. We arrived around 715, told table would be 45 minutes. We hung out on back patio, no service ever showed in an hour plus. We ventured into the bar to try to get a drink. Bar tenders literally look at you and ignore you. Of course they recognized their homies. This is very much a local place and they could care less about those they don't recognize. After two hours we went back to hostess stand and they were more than welcome to sit us. They were very rude with attitude for no reason as it's a step above bar food. When it's busy, they never have enough servers. It has amazing potential and if they had better service, they would definitely sell more. I revisited the Union Public House a few weeks ago. My experience was totally different. Service was amazing ( I think the servers name was Isabelle). Food was delicious- we had the cauliflower and sliders as well as some burgers. There was live music in the courtyard so we could just step outside after eating to enjoy that as well. It's always hard to order on happy hour as the waiters are so slow it's tough to get an extra drink. At our last visit, there was a pubic hair in my food. I'd be okay with coming back if it were a hair from someone's head. As someone with long hair, I get it. But a pube? That is hand-washing...and I don't want ecoli. The manager came to our table and said people were getting yelled at, hair nets were getting checked, etc. I pointed out that it wasn't a hair from someone's head, and that's when I realized the waitress hadn't even reported the issue properly. I will start this review off by saying that, though this place is located in a cute little plaza that is reminiscent of Scottsdale or SoCal, it is still in Tucson, so they need to bring down the pretentious 'tude a bit...especially since they are a gastropub. From the minute we walked in the door and were cooly greeted by the hostess who was not only throwing shade but had the side-eye in her holster and who was only there for decoration since she just stated "it's open seating at the bar", I had to double check where the hell I was because I thought I had entered some $300/plate establishment... Then, once we seated ourselves at the bar, the bartender seemed much more interested in flirting with some male customers at the end of the bar than taking our drink orders or bringing us menus. Though she did seem to grasp the "service" portion of her job toward the end of the meal, I was already wearing my resting bitch face. Because service is such an important part of any restaurant and/or bar experience, they got docked two-stars, which is a shame because if they had dialed down their "self-importance" gauge from an LA to "Nicer side of Tucson", then it would have been 4-stars all the way! That being said, the drinks and food here were pretty damn good! I loved that they had variations of the Moscow Mule. I had a Kentucky Mule cuz I love me some bourbon and the pour was perfect with just enough bourbon to know you were getting your money's worth, but not to overpower the other ingredients, especially the ginger beer. I had their union burger w/the potato soup and it was seriously delicious! The bacon jam and pickled red onions added some really inspired flavor. My cousin got the BBB, which was a nicely sized app and also mad-crazy savory! The price points on the drinks and food tilt just a smidge to the pricey side, but you can tell you are getting quality. So, hopefully it was just an off night (there was only one table sat in the restaurant, a couple outside in the sofa lounge area, and two guys at the bar, so the place was kinda dead 90mins before they closed on a Tuesday) and the attitude/level of service we experienced here isn't the norm because if it is, even if you served what I ordered with a free shoulder rub from the hottie w/a body at the end of the bar, I still would not come back. 3.5 stars My cousin recommended this place since I'm not familiar with Tucson. It's a little hipster-ish but the space is pretty big and they also have outdoor seating. We were able to get here for Social Hour (4PM-7PM) and we ordered Moscow Mules ($6) and their homemade pretzels ($4). Their Moscow Mules were served correctly in a copper cup but the flavor was a little watered down. I did enjoy the pretzel; it came out nice and warm and the cheese sauce was addicting. For dinner I ordered one of the specials which was a mahi mahi. It was cooked perfectly but the rub was a little too salty for me. My cousin ordered a flat bread but don't recall what it was. The piece I had was pretty burnt. We also ordered the BBB (Brussel sprouts, beets, bacon with honey) but didn't get it until we were almost done with our meals. Some how our order got lost? The side dish was great it, had both red and yellow beets and the sprouts were nicely roasted, but it was a little on the small side. We also ordered a chocolate mousse and it was nice and rich. Absolutely amazing place from beginning to end! We had a table of twelve and at first they could not fit all of us inside so we went out to the patio with weather dropping to the forties. They turned on the outdoor heaters and we were good to go. Moscow Mules were still being offered at happy hour prices so many of us ordered those throughout the night. We ordered the house pretzels to start off and those were wonderful. I ordered the chicken pot pie. My coworker told me everything was good on the menu. Part of me doubted him because not "everything" on any menu could be that good. As the dishes came out, I watched with anticipation from everyone how their food was. I heard a lot of "oh yeah" and "mmmm" from the guys. As I stabbed into my chicken pot pie and took my first taste, my reaction was equal to the rest of our party! Flavorful, hot and absolute perfection from crust to chicken! My dish also came with a side of bread for dipping along with apple butter served in a ramekin. By the end of the night, we were happy and full while exchanging stories. This was definitely a memorable night at the restaurant as well as for our team. This place has frozen rose!!! It's served in a Moscow mule mug and is so refreshing. I was tempted to get 2...a great option during these hot days when it feels like we're living on the sun. I also ordered the Beyond Burger, the veggie burger that acts/tastes like a real burger. Yum!! I usually don't like veggie burgers, but this was excellent. It also didn't taste so much like a burger that I felt like I was actually eating meat. The fries were good, the pickles are good, the pretzel was good (that mustard has a kick!). I was recommended this place from a friend at another bar and here I am, leaving a 1 star rating. The overall food and drinks were good, but the service was crap. We sat outside and there was a few other tables that were well more attended to than we were throughout our entire visit. I think we were checked up on maybe 4 times and we were there for a good 3 hours. Once was to take our drink order, then to take our food order, then to take another drink order, then to tell us we need to cash out with our waiter because there was a staff changeout. There was big time gaps between those 4 check ins and from the beginning of us being seated, we waited a good 30 minutes before someone waited on us. When it came time to cash out, we came to find out the waiter forced a 20% tip into our total amount without us even knowing and didn't even give us a receipt. There was 2 separate checks and he did the same thing to the other person as well. As far as I'm aware, that's making an unauthorized transaction since I wasn't made aware of what tip percentage was being made and not being given a receipt. I wasn't happy about that or being told we had to specifically cash out with that waiter due to a changeout which pretty much meant that we were done or needed to open a new tab with the new waitress. Even after the changeout, the new waitress never once even came to our table and we still were there for a half hour after our original waiter left for the night. However, once again, she was sure enough visiting the other few tables plenty of times but not once even laid eyes on ours. We were even prepped to order more drinks but due to not even getting table service, we completely were turned off and ended up leaving. Keep in mind, we got there at 8:30pm and they don't close until 2am. There should have been no reason for shitty service. I definitely won't be returning there again. read more

Went to brunch here because we were given a recommendation about their mimosas. We arrived and were given a short wait which was completely fine. The host was frustrated with another group and proceeded to call them "a**holes" when they walked away, understandable but maybe not super appropriate because there was kids around lol. When we were sat, we waited another 30 minutes before somebody came over to us, but our waitress was incredibly friendly and checked on us the whole time. We ordered french toast and the house fries, which were both absolutely delicious. We also tried the peach bellini, the mimosas, and some cocktails from the bar. From the suggestions from the Tucson area Yelpers, I came to Union Public House (UPH) specifically to try Tucson beers. The beers, not bad! The restaurant? Meh. The good thing about UPH: There's a good crowd, especially during happy hours. It seems like this place is the place to go for dates and things such as that. There's plenty of seating around the big bar that this place has. Plenty of beers on tap, or if that's not your fancy, they have specialty drinks such as the Moscow Mule (one of my favorites!) Service is on par with very attentive bartenders (I sat at the bar, could you tell?) and they were also very helpful in making decisions if you're torn in between. The not so biggies for me: UPH is a little high on the price. It's how all restaurants are nowadays, more on aesthetics and how the image of the restaurant is compared to the food. Maybe I hit the wrong items or just wasn't looking at the restaurant in the correct light, but for me I'm all about the food. In my opinion, I felt the Moscow Mule held a little too much ice and for the price of it, at the time I bought it I believe it was $9 or 10? I might be wrong, and depending on what time you venture out there it could be very different. Prices for the food just didn't really cut it for me. If you're on a budget for food and such, this place is probably not the place you want to go to. Overall, it was alright. I probably will never come back here, but it was a nice experience at what Tucson had to offer. The place had great atmosphere, great seating options, great options of drinks. UPH lacks in food and prices that are supposed to reflect the food. I think there's a ton of great options as far as food goes. When we confirmed, she did a great job of letting us know which menu options were popular, what she liked, etc. She checked on us regularly, kept drink glasses full, and provided a positive service experience. The food was just OK. We ordered the sriracha honey crispy cauliflower to share. I did not care for the sauce, and the dish was too salty overall. For my entree, I ordered the popcorn crusted salmon. The crust didn't have much flavor, and it was on the soggy side. My partner ordered the chicken and waffle, which he found to be OK. The portion could have been smaller/shared, and the chicken breading was salty. While we appreciated the good service, we won't go out of our way to go back. One of my favorite restaurants in Tucson, particularly for their Whiskey Wednesdays or for date nights on their really nice patio. Their bar menu is extensive and the bartenders really know what they're doing. The food menu won't disappoint either. I frequently enjoy the Pub Chips, which are delicious, light, crispy homemade chips adorned with blue cheese crumbles, chives, HUGE lardons and this amazing mornay sauce (for those who haven't had it, think "white sauce"...bechamel with more cheese added). I also LOVE their ramen, which is so fresh and delicious. I know...this isn't a place you'd expect good ramen, but the broth is incredibly rich and flavorful (albeit fatty), and the noodles taste homemade. Overall, I definitely recommend Union for large get togethers with friends or for quaint date nights. And like I said, there's no better way to celebrate having conquered hump day than to enjoy one of their really great craft cocktails on Wednesday nights. read more

Tell you what....you go right ahead with that there bracelet and I'll get my copper magic from my Moscow Mule copper mug! A quick shopping trip with my daughter L on this Mother's Day ended with lunch at Union Public House. What a pleasant surprise! The place oozes comfort with a bit of hip mixed in.The dark interior with rustic looking wood floors was open, inviting and cool but it was so beautiful out that only al fresco dining would do. Seated immediately we were greeted by Kristen, our server today. She helped us out by explaining the drinks a bit and telling us her favorites. L had the Mojito Italiano, UPH's refreshing spin on a classic mojito; lovely with a touch of Amaretto in it. UPH makes several versions of the Moscow Mule but having never had one before I went with the traditional Mule. Light, refreshing and served in a cute copper mug, this drink stayed cold all throughout lunch. We shared the lobster bisque along with UPH's biscuits and gravy and the chef was nice enough to plate everything individually. The B & G consisted of large cheddar biscuits with a cracked pepper gravy accented by green chorizo. The dish was good but perhaps a little too much biscuit for me. The lobster bisque however was amazing. Delicious spicy broth with sweet succulent chunks of lobster in it and topped with a chive oil and served with a slice of crusty charred bread. Super rich and flavorful. We split the maple bacon creme brulee and it was quite good. The bacon added a nice touch and wasn't overpowering; the custard was creamy and delicious. I'm giving Union Public House 5 stars simply because of the quality of our meal and that I didn't get poisoned by MSG! In my book that's an outstanding restaurant right there, but add in the ambience, good seating, tasty drinks and a clean restroom and I'm a happy diner. My friends had heard good things about the restaurant, so we met them there around 4:30 on a Tuesday. Our friends were already seated and had drinks in hand. The Server showed up promptly to ask us what we wanted to drink. Our food orders followed shortly thereafter. I've put up pictures of all our food for you to look at. One friend had the NY Strip that came with potato croquettes and roasted vegetables. He did not like the potato flavor nor did I have a taste. But the flavor of the steak and roasted vegetables was amazing! I'd forget the potatoes and ask for more of the roasted veggies. Another friend and I both ordered the Chicken Pot Pie. All I can say is WOW! So very tasty and we both had leftovers for later.... which I devoured later that night. I couldn't help it! The pot pie arrived in a small break baking pan and was covered with a lovely flakey crust. There is nothing I can say other than it was perfect according to my expectant taste buds. The other person in our group ordered the Tandoori Artisan Flatbread. As we were all sharing tastes of what we had ordered, I can attest to the deliciousness of the flatbread. On my next visit I'll be in a quandary trying to decide between the steak, chicken pot pie and the Tandoori flatbread. All were completely delicious! The only thing we didn't all love was the chocolate waffle desert. It was good, but not great. In fact the four of us didn't finish it, but then we'd truly enjoyed our meals and were gastronomically satisfied already. While I'm a tourist, I am planning on staying local for at least a month, so I'm definitely going to be returning. If I lived locally this would be one of my favorite restaurants. While other reviews have had issues with the service, I can only attest to the level of service we received. We were all happy with the service, ambiance and tasty food, and will be looking forward to returning. My ONLY complaint was walking through some cigar smoke to get to the front door. He is a young man but he looks like he absolutely hates his job, no smile, and looks at you like you are a piece of trash. Great happy hour, good food, perfect place to just come and chill with friends. This is like our go-to hang out spot due to location, drinks, and ambiance. Service is not the most attentive and can be slow, but the food and awesome patio make up for it. The last time I went, I had the BLT which was actually really tasty. It's open faced, bite sized, and fancified. The fried mashed potato balls and chili ketchup sauce (?) went very well with the sandwich. Not sure it's really a meal though--more like a snack size portion. My friend got the caesar salad which came out as gigantic wedges covered in brown salad dressing. It's a pretty good place to chill with friends on the patio or inside listening to music. They upgraded their menu and now it's on an iPad or something similar. They have a large variety of drink options and their food is moderately priced. If you're in a group, I highly recommend the mixed meat and cheese board! It was delicious amongst my friends and I. Meh. Surly Gen Z wait staff along with mediocre food I can get anywhere for half the price drives me to never return.
